The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I think reviving series only work if you don't try to emulate what the original series was and instead do things your way like they do with the xeno series.

But they're in red Greatest Hits cases, right? The ones reserved for games that sold plenty of copies? ;)
ni no kuni sold decently but was heavily over printed both original and greatest hits version. Do remember last year they just managed to get rid of most of the non greatest hits stock. And of course this year most stores got rid of their greatest hits too cause of the walmart trade ins

I haven't played any of the Ar Tonelico games, but Ar nosurge looks good, so I'm thinking of picking it up. I understand that it's a prequel, but that doesn't mean that not having played the Tonelico games won't be a hinderance to enjoying the game. Any care to share their opinions on the subject?

Thanks in advance.

ur still wastin money, u gotta have a hard on for extremely punishing rpgs like that, plus its cheaply made so more like a 20 game, but go ahead

The Ar Tonelico games are very much standalone games. They mainly share song magic, diving to unlock skills using a visual novel format and the powering up of songs in combat. I think you'll be safe.

BTW if you want the Natural Doctrine Limited Edition on the NISA store you better get it soon. Stock dwindling fast....less than 25% left.

Damn, that is awesome. And that palette swap is really cool. Great look for a great bastard.

Holy! My wallet is taking a big hit from end of July to like end November damn! There are soo many games being released. Few release dates were announced:

Stated on Bandai Namco UK Twitter: (Not really sure if this means the US release date is the same?)

"Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be out 20th August 2014 exclusively to PS Vita!"
Nothing was stated on their US Twitter.

"Tales of Hearts R is coming November 14th, 2014 on PlayStation Vita! Here what Hideo Baba has to say about this good news to his dearest fans: “I am very happy to announce Tales of Hearts R’s release date at the biggest Japanese culture event in the West! It is very fitting to do so, as it contains the original Japanese voice overs! I have enjoyed a lot traveling around Europe to promote the Tales of Series in many countries, and it is my pleasure to come back to Japan Expo and celebrate Tales of with the fans. I hope the fans keep enjoying our efforts to constantly translate the game in many languages, and have fun discovering the journey of Kor Meteor, Kohaku Hearts, and all of their friends in Tales of Hearts R. Let’s get excited for the future of Tales of together!” Are you excited?"

I am not finding much information about U.S. release dates on these. It seems that all of this information might portray to Europe and Australasia.

As all of the systems are at this it seems that this LE isnt going to be boxed together. You will get the Standard Game and then the "Extras" separate. They have a set amount of "Extras" so those are being counted down for every LE preorder no matter the system.

Does this mean Sword Art Online is getting a UK Physical release?? Might just buy a physical copy than try to get the Asian version

Thank you SEGA. Would love a retail release.

Also, ToHR dated 11/11/14 and SAO dated for 8/19/14. It's official.

Somehow I think Sega will do a retail release....they only do digital only releases for old stuff like the Dreamcast games and the Jet Set newer game. I will cherish it if it's physical though.

I think i'm ready to bite on the Vita Natural Doctrine release with the bag....I do slightly want the better enhanced PS4 graphics but some battles supposedly take a long time and that will fit perfect with the Vita plus 20 bucks less overall. Plus my Vita is one of my main niche machines so I got to feed it some more love.

god I hate namco so much sometimes....

I would love to find the guy that decides when the games will release and kick him in the balls... multiple times... very hard....

why in the hell would you release two games on the same day that have a huge overlap like Sword Art Onlline and Tales of Xillia 2 unless you want both of them to fail -_- (both are going to draw similar crowds as while they are different forms of it, they are both action based anime rpgs)

Dang you're right I was going to make the order when I got home....oh well....if it comes back in stock I'll get it otherwise i'll wait for Natural Doctrine to drop like a brick in price...sigh.

well at least in toh's case its on the vita and had very very very very few people interested in it in the first place in comparison to the obviously 5 to 10x larger market the ps3 tox2 will have.

Not sure if anyone here cares, as it veers off-topic a little, but the Retron 5 is back in stock on Thinkgeek.com

https://www.thinkgeek.com/product/16fc/

I ordered one, thought about it, then decided I would cancel because I could probably just run an emulator on my laptop for the same visual fidelity (I also have all the original systems). But then my order was already in "Processing" instead of "new"... So I guess I'm gettin' a Retron. ;P

EDIT: I used this coupon code I found online to knock $10 off... Which will promptly be consumed by shipping and tax.

Does Amazon charge you for the pre order? Or do they charge when it actually ships or is about to ship. I normally don't pre order games, but if Best Buy is charging 39.99, I rather order from Amazon.

With pre orders they only charge when the stuff ships from their warehouse. So you'll be good to go till then.

Don't Vita games normally cost $39.99? At least, that's what I've seen for games like Conception II or Mind Zero. MSRP is a suggestion after all but it still strikes me as weird. Especially when they don't announce some kind of deal/sale because of the difference in prices.

No they don't. I pre ordered this during the best buy deal which made it like 26.99. I have a feeling the reason why they made it 39.99 is cause of that E3 deal and they didn't want a huge discount but unno thats just my opinion.

Either way it's now better to order on amazon or anywhere else for the matter as they all have it for 29.99 except bestbuy/futureshop

So it's more like Suikoden or Final Fantasy as opposed to say, Xenosaga? That's good. Thanks for the info :)

The games are stand-alone, but there is some cross-over of characters between the games. Also, if you want a full understanding of the universe you should play all 3 games, since they take place in different areas of the same world.

typical of bestbuy , finally having freedoms war for vita up for preoder, but jack up the price gamestop style. LOL

Freedom Wars
This is produced by SCEJ. That will almost certainly mean it will be a PS+ game or hit the $10 price point within a year's time (see PS All stars, God of War series, sly cooper, jak and daxter, twisted metal, etc)

Are those other games that dropped in price dramatically and either hit PS+ or $10 and below? I'm only asking, because the only game produced by SCEJ in there is Freedom Wars. I wanted to see if SCEJ games were just like Ubisoft games when they hit the market. I've only ever played very few games from SCEJ.

Anyone planning to get the One Piece for Vita coming out on July 8th? I don't want it raise in price/become hard to find :I
I am not getting it on the vita... I am getting it on the ps3 as it has co op stuff which A. I am not sure is on the Vita and B. I don't want to buy the game twice to play that co op stuff with my wife :p

edit: looking it up the ps3/wiiu version has split screen co op... the vita and 3ds have 4 player local co op

It sounds like Project Diva F 2nd's lyrics will be localized into English? Kind of weird..

http://www.polygon.com/2014/7/3/5858716/hastune-miku-project-diva-f-2nd-english-lyrics-localization
I personally think this is a nice update. They're talking about the written lyrics, not the voice. I thought it was odd that they went with romanji in Diva F rather than japanese or english. Having the option to toggle between the 3 will be great. Not that you can really read them during a song anyway with the explosion of motion, color, and buttons flying around the screen.
