The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games. There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

This has been a japanophile OT for years. Y'all want deals? Then stop circlejerking in every post and maybe there'll be space for them.

 
I'm not going to lie that Operation Abyss artbook in the NISA limited edition looks good. I make fun of like 16 page ones but this one will have a glorious 112 pages. That might be alone for me to order it....it looks more like the game I though Demon Gaze would be....just thought it was average though I need about 4 more demon keys to finish it....

it's about time they started upgrading their LE quality; enough with those premature sample artbooks.

think the last thing i bought directly from nisa's site was disgaea 4... japan d4 was bundled with a nendoroid, we got a $5 chinese knockoff. haven't bought an LE from them since.

Man, I've been trying to avoid the LEs since I bought Criminal Girls. I'm okay until I start looking into them and see that they're unter 5% left...then the collector in me goes insane.

I highly doubt that Oreshika will get a English Physical release in the U.S. so at least we may a way to import a copy. I'mm hoping it gets released at $29.99 like Freedom Wars

 
I know it isn't exactly niche, but I just got an email that Best Buy canceled my Majora's Mask Limited Edition.

Best Buy is fucking terrible at pre-orders. This is why I avoided GCU for so long.

Gamestop is shady AF sometimes, but if you place a pre-order you're just about guaranteed to receive your item.

Yea I woke up from my nap to find out my majoras mask special edition preorder got canceled today too. I thought they would at least compensate for it but nope. Now I'm out a majoras mask and a cool skull figure on friday. I may just have to go hunting in the stores friday now. Sad days ahead. Oh and it will be friday the 13...making my chances of finding it...nevermind.

too bad gamestop frequently does not get in enough of the physical preorder bonus items. Me and my sis never got our heart gold/soulsilver statues, and the only reason I got a xenoblade artbook was because the employee knew how many times I had never got my stuff before, idk if he gave me one an employee had been hoarding or what, I am grateful to him but still very turned off against preorders for physical bonuses in general. I suppose this is a good time to ask, who thinks xenoblade wii u will be as rare as xenoblade wii? I am probably going to base my rarity forecast on it on how rare xenoblade 3ds becomes.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. Since FFX-2 was a download code for the vita, if I buy FFX for vita preowned at bestbuy, it's basically a crapshoot on whether I get an unused code right? They won't provide extra codes or anything.

And with FFX-2 being the better game that's a big risk to take.

I called their customer service to ask about it. She didn't have details about what happened and she said I was the first call she had about it then put me on hold to talk to colleagues who said a lot of similar calls were starting to come in. She all but promised there would probably be some kind of compensation communicated via email over the next day or two.

She mentioned there was a mass cancellation a month ago as well, but I'm wondering if she's thinking about the 3DS system itself instead of the game LE. She mentioned most of the cancellations from a month ago were targeted at people that ordered more than one, but this round seems to be different. I only had one on order.

Compensation is a nice gesture I guess (I really just want the item to give to my wife since she's a huge Majora's Mask fan), but I don't understand the consumer benefit of pre-ordering if you aren't guaranteed the item. All we're doing is helping them gauge demand at this point.

GCU discounts are nice, but it isn't worth missing out on the item you ordered. I'll follow up in a couple of days to make sure I can't pick up some kind of cancellation or something that may be leftover stock, and if not I'll just cancel my 7 or so other pre-orders I have with them and take them somewhere more reliable (GameStop, Amazon).

Thanks for trying though. And Yea I had one preordered as well. Could not get a preorder at another retailer for safe measure and thought bestbuy would at least be a little more professional with these by maybe cancelling preorders a little after the preorder ability went live especially since it releases in two days. I'm just going to settle for the regular edition if I can't find one in stores. Hopefully they compensate for this like you said through email. Otherwise I'll just go and call in a few days as well. Congrats on other CAGs who were able to keep their orders. A little butt hurt but you win some and lose some I suppose.
 
I received an email about billing from IFFYs for Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart Limited Edition. Said something about 2/16/15 it would be happening. Just thought I would share some information.

Also I have never played a dungeon crawling JRPG before, I honestly always thought that first person battles is a lazy design from developers but I really want to give it a chance. I was going to start with Demon Gaze but decided not to. Do you think Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy will be somewhat decent as Demon Gaze was praised for being good and its made by the same developer. Was thinking about getting the LE as I pretty much buy every LE from NISA. I just do not buy Dungeon Crawling JRPGs because of what I said above. Maybe I should change my outlook?

I was one of the few people who liked x-2, the story is really rushed (or not thought out... or was unnecessary?) but i like the dress sphere system. The soundtrack for the game was also really beautiful :'). The opening credits for x-2 when you load up the game is still stuck in my head~ i love me final fantasy instrumentals

The only thing that made the first game rare was that it was a GS exclusive (besides direct from Nintendo). The 3DS version is not exclusive and you can pre-order X at other retailers too. So other than a CE, I wouldn't expect it to be.

Sorry to hear about the MM:CE cancellations =/

I liked FF X more than X-2, but the gameplay (costume/job changing) of X-2 was a lot of fun.

You could always just grab the code from a gutted new copy @ GS. Almost every GS i've been to leaves the codes out on the floor

 
Both The Majora's Mask LE console and game has been one of the worst handled things I've ever seen. 

There seems to be a pattern and it's Nintendo

First they over produce Peach Amiibos while under producing the more desirable ones. Not to mention the

cluster fuck of how they are even sold with some stores getting exclusives.

They also under produce an accessory for one of their most popular games. How do you not know that Smash players prefer to play with the gamecube controller.

Now even with preordering their system and game that sold out in minutes doesn't even gurantee you a copy.

It's all just ridiculous

The preorder cancels reminds me of the Pikachu 3DS XL release at target. I'm still slightly miffed at that. I forget if they even gave me anything for it.

I already have FFX/X-2 on PS2 and PS3. I was just thinking it might be fun to play it portable. Was thinking about it since I was seeing if I could find enough games for buy 2 get 1 at bestbuy. Guess I'll just wait for a better deal on a new one. It has cross save right?

As for Knights of Sidonia, anything above a 1/10 is overrating it. I've watched over a thousand animes (not to brag, desu) and very few of them caused me to actually fall asleep while watching them. Sidonia did though, which is an achievement of sorts. The only reason people claim to like it is because it's so counter-culture and edgy to do so. "Wow, CG! Such deep, many smart!" You know, the same people who watch Kaiba and Kemonozume (or maybe Flowers of Evil, since those references are probably too obscure for most of the people in this thread) to affirm their self-proclaimed intelligence.

whoa long argument there... just realized something though. Are you the Dark_sage from whiners.pro and crymore? If so i love using your comparisons to pick what version to d.load. Saves me tons of time over the old method of just getting like 2 or 3 epps from 3 or 4 groups and having to watch them all. I actually havent watched any new anime in a while but used your site a lot. Miss whiners.pro though.

NISA finally emailed me last night about my htoL#NiQ preorder and provided instructions on re-sending the payment through Paypal. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that now.
