The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

The only thing that made the first game rare was that it was a GS exclusive (besides direct from Nintendo). The 3DS version is not exclusive and you can pre-order X at other retailers too. So other than a CE, I wouldn't expect it to be.

Sorry to hear about the MM:CE cancellations =/

I liked FF X more than X-2, but the gameplay (costume/job changing) of X-2 was a lot of fun.
yeah this time around nintendo is deciding their is a market so they are footing the bill to distrubute

How long has Gamestop been selling import titles?

http://www.gamestop.com/ds/games/naruto-4-japanese-import-japanese-language/64109

Albeit, it's just one that I'm aware. Still, it's a bit curious to see it there.
Interesting. Wish Gamestop would sell import titles.

I don't have any brick and mortar stores that sell imports.

Then again, I do have a Vintage Stock a drive away. Although most of the titles I saw there were just the European equivalent to titles that were already available in North America.

man i need to play my copy of Deception IV. Cant decide vita or ps3. WTF this one looks really weird. Is that all the previous characters from the series? Looks like it, interesting. ALso weird that theres scenes at a school? Wtf this one looks really odd
The ingame graphics for Deception are not that great. I'd say, play the vita since playing it in short bursts seems to work well for it. Seems more comfortable.

GameStop sold me a used Phantasy Star Portable 2 that was Japanese once. Difference being they didn't tell me and I didn't notice until after the return period.

Friendly reminder that this is why you should play your games rather than just throwing them in the backlog for Time and Eternity.

The exact same thing happened to me, except for Tales of Hearts R last month. I didn't notice that it was the Japanese version (the box was for the English version, so some jerk must have traded in his import copy and kept the English copy) until I put the cartridge in my Vita and saw the Japanese language for the game's bubble.

Thankfully an awesome manager in my area asked the store where I bought the game (not one I usually visit) to send another used copy and swapped that one for mine, saying that the store would handle it. This was especially awesome because it had been almost 1.5 months since I bought the game and I didn't have the receipt any longer.

Lol that is terrible! That would be like me trading in my Project Diva F 2nd Vita with the English box. I still find it hilarious though....glad it turned out well though.

Damn, now I have to keep an eye out for this? What ever happen to honest game trading.

It's actually been off and on over the years. I believe they first started in the PS1 & Saturn days.
yeah, still kicking myself for not grabbing radiant silvergun from eb games when the saturn was dying :( it was in my hands and i changed my mind. would have been the best $50 spent there.

And hell, i have an extra Tales of hearts R code for them if they want it
I don't think you can use the tohr codes still. I think they expired a few weeks after release. or I could just be confusing it with the time they were handing them out till.

yeah lord knows how many of the games I have in my backlog actually even work considering I don't test them often. I do check to see their condition at least but you'd never know if the disc had been resurfaced likely or had a printing error like the wiiu games and my so4 copy did. Or even worse in the case of carts as there are unscrupulous people out there who swap the outsides of carts among other things I read.

oooh I was so mad about that printing error on so4 though. can't believe I had wasted money on buying 2 copies for that game. Which is ironic as I bought 2 copies of so3 though that ones cool as one has the pink canadian plain box art while the other has the anime art. Im amazed I didn't repeat that mistake with 1 and 2 on psp -_-

Didnt see a thread here. Saw this on SD:

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (Playstation 3) - $14.99 plus FS with Amazon Prime (OOS but can still be ordered)

well i havent checked in awhile, but last month or maybe december, when 360 was delisting a game, when on a spree and bought a bunch of older sega and atari brand games off of live and i think that was on the store so you should check and just download it

Pigeon daki is tempting. Should I go for the average to get world end economica?
Can't speak to WEE's quality but I wanted Hatoful Boyfriend so I'll read it at some point. I'll probably wait until Sekai Project gets around to releasing the rest of it though, especially since they're supposed to touch up the first episode's localization as well.

Too many Neptunia games for me in too little time IMHO. I'm skipping rebirth 2, noir and rebirth 3, and neptunia U until I finish the first...which is alright. Not a huge, huge fan though.

I actually grabbed a copy of Radiant Silvergun for $2 at my library's monthly used book sale. It was sitting inside a copy of Jin-Roh, which was what I actually wanted to buy.

I love how quickly they're doing the Re;Birth games. They've just about caught up now, which is great.

I imagine licensing for another territory is easier when the publisher is basically the same company now.

Hopefully VII will get localized quickly as well after it launches.

Just received the email about Re;birth 3 and this caught my eye:

"The game will also include dual audio, with Japanese audio available as free DLC."

Not a dealbreaker for me as long as I can get the Japanese track, but maybe for others.

Buncha SNK fighers discounted on PSN:

KOF 13 for $14.99, usually around $30 or so

Older KOFs are $4.49 PS3/ $3.49 vita

I also see Metal Slug... some baseball games... some arcade classics... uh wtf Ikari Warrior??? Damn this is way before my time...

But if anyone is wondering, KOF 13's DLC is still the same price, full link below.

My cousin, and I used to play Ikari Warriors like crazy. Always remember spamming A-B-B-A whenever I ran out of men to resurrect myself.

A couple of XSEED 3DS announements today

Story of Seasons (Harvest Moon) is going to be released on March 31st.

Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven didn't get an exact date yet, but will get a digital and physical release this spring. I'm interested in this one since it's made by the same team that did Rune Factory, but is supposed to be "different" from RF.
Both look like must buys IMHO. Story of the Seasons....ah I'm a Harvest Moon fanboy and this is where the series goes. It looks excellent and I can't wait to get my old farm up and running and wooin' the ladies. The other one looks fun too and I think it has wooin' of the ladies as well. I hope Lord of Magna is May or so....like to have my releases spread out.

The preorder cancels reminds me of the Pikachu 3DS XL release at target. I'm still slightly miffed at that. I forget if they even gave me anything for it.

I already have FFX/X-2 on PS2 and PS3. I was just thinking it might be fun to play it portable. Was thinking about it since I was seeing if I could find enough games for buy 2 get 1 at bestbuy. Guess I'll just wait for a better deal on a new one. It has cross save right?
It does have cross-save, but the system for doing it is terrible. Unless I missed something, you have to save normally, then completely exit the game, restart it, choose the cross-save option from the main menu, select which save you want, and then it will copy your save to the network. It does, technically, function, but it turns what should be an almost completely painless and transparent function into a five minute ordeal. And you have to do this every single time you want to change systems. I bought both versions, but I almost never play it on PS3 because it's not worth the hassle to use the cross-save function.

Same with my cousin and me. I remember doing 'countdowns' so that we could share/split whenever only one tank was on the field.

I wish the guys that worked on the localization for Hyperdimension Neptunia could work on the Sora No Kiseki games
I prefer a higher quality localization over 5 min of voice work once or twice a chapter. but it would be nice to see those and older tales of games period.

The worst would be if someone got stuck when they spawned. Hours of work down the drain...friggin pipes level.

I'm glad we'll be getting Rebirth 3. I just finished Rebirth 2 and am looking forward to Hyperdevotion Noire and Neptunia U. :)

Usually they can put both on the cartridge. Maybe they're listening to their facebook comments and bringing in the English VAs another day to record the rest of the lines in the game.

Quick questions:: neptunium rebirth is a game that all genders can enjoy? Or does it have those like fetish things in it?

I was looking into it since I see it mentioned a lot but for obvious reasons I don't want to be playing some orgy game etc

I've never played the games, but I read an article on Polygon saying they were anime rape simulators.

it's aimed at guys, but it's pretty tame in general. A couple boob jiggles here and there (if I recall right there is a photo album and a number of them you are allowed to move the images around and the girls breasts jiggle as you do, but this is a completely optional thing) and one bandage bondage situation which is just a pitcher of a one of the characters wrapped in a ton of bandages naked underneath. I mean the game is rated T, so it's clearly not going to be filled with hardcore ecchi stuff.

The first game is loaded with video game references though, and for me that is the main reason to play it as there are jokes hidden everywhere in the game.

Oh ok

I can put up with that, that's no biggie.

Ya the gaming references is what intrigued me :)

yeah its disappointing playing the later entries and them having less references :(  its the one thing that got my attention about the series
