Ha, I knew the campaign aide Andrew Young was covering for his boss by claiming he, not Edwards, was the father, and quickly hid away with Edward's mistress. Not to mention Edwards gave a faux proclamation that he's willing to take the DNA test when he knew his mistress will refuse it. He was able to cover it up until after the primary. Wonder why he didn't hold out until after Obama appointed him as the attorney general as promised for his endorsement.


Since John Edwards took votes away from Hillary and endorsed Obama, he's still good in our eyes right? And the media did a good job suppressing the rumor (which they knew back in 2007) until after Edwards siphoned enough votes away from Hillary.

When you've got murderers, Klan members, and other criminals in the Senate, it's refreshing to see someone whose biggest vice is that he's a philanderer.

Ugh... you'd think that if someone was cheating on a spouse, they could at least wrap it up rather than bring a nasty dipstick home for the person they vowed to be faithful to.

Is this before or after the DNA results of the child? In any event, if this is the only reason for his political downfall, then he must have been a saint. Politics = Greed. Oh, and what Unclebob said.

That's very true, but it's always much much bigger news when it's a Republican that gets caught. I can guarantee you this thread would be 3x the size if it were about a Republican.

I guess the only thing Edwards can claim is that at least he didn't fly all the way to Argentina for some triangle.

I will say this, cheating on a spouse is unforgivable IMO. It's the ultimate breach of trust. It's one of the few things I am not willing to give second chances on. It doesn't have as much to do with family values as it does respect.
 
Why hasn't anyone mentioned how despicable it is he lied about being the father and made his aide take the fall for him, claiming to be the father, and likely paying off the mistress to not speak out about it? That's one of the most despicable parts of this IMO, aside from cheating on his cancer-striken wife.
 
To be fair, is it "cheating" if you have your wife's consent? Do we know if he had his wife's consent or not? Not that I personally care much either way. You could get off on raping Baby Jesus statues, so long as you can efficiently run your office.

Doesn't change the fact that thrustbucket is right. Not that I care if the guy is republican or democrat. I'm an independant.
 
The problem I have with it is that people seem so use to corruption/immorality in DC that they only want to hear about it or talk about it if it meets a certain level of hypocrisy.

That's effed up.
 
FERNLEY, Nev. — When President Bill Clinton's relationship with a White House intern erupted a decade ago, Sen. John Ensign called for his resignation.

But the Nevada Republican says that situation is different from one he faces after admitting to an extramarital affair with a former campaign aide. Ensign told The Associated Press that he didn't lie under oath like Clinton did and that he hasn't "done anything legally wrong."

"President Clinton stood right before the American people and he lied to the American people," Ensign said. "You remember that famous day he lied to the American people, plus the fact I thought he suborned perjury. That's why I voted for the articles of impeachment."

Ensign made the remarks Wednesday before speaking at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in rural Fernley.

This is why it's a bigger issue when Republicans do it. Because they tend to be ridiculous, like Ensign here. And the Sanford story is so salacious that it got the coverage it did by virtue of the case itself, irrespective of party, IMO.
