Jpop, Kpop, Cpop, etc.

I went to the Hikaru Utada concert tonight, and Hikki was amazing!! I didn't think it was possible but I like her even more now. What a show! She did songs from all her albums, and the best part was I was so close to the stage I could practically touch her!

Awsome, also im glad that most of her shows where sold out cause that means she might tour again and when does ill have to get a ticket first day. Also new BOA this week, cant wait to hear it.

ahhh I overlooked this:

new Girl Next Door album came out like 2 weeks ago.

if u dont kno this group, theyre in the same vein as Every Little Thing and Day After Tomorrow.

like one of the members of ELT leaves and produces DAT, then DAT breaks up and the keyboardist joins GND

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he2G8FbqGtc

anyway I really liked their first album so I have high hopes for their second.

also, new Yu-A single:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-qBh1y5fMM

Nami, yes! I forgot her album is out.

It's funny because I've had "Give Me Up" stuck in my head for like a week.

Btw, I'm kind of disappointed in BoA's new one. Only song I really like is Possibility.
It's funny because I've had "Give Me Up" stuck in my head for like a week.
yeay... that song...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsJEJR-DcS4

o_O
I hate you Jekki for posting Girl Next Door stuff, now I can't get enough...
yeay that album is awesome!!

it's interesting how japanese artists always seem to make their second albums a huge improvement over their firsts.

u never see that in rap music...
So can this please just be about all Asian music of any type? I don't really go much for this pop stuff but I want to talk Pillows, Orange Range, L'Arc'En'Ciel, RIP SLYME, and Flow in here.
I would still consider those artists pop tho...

u should check out the latest album from Delofamilia, it's a solo project from I believe the guitarist of Orange Range.

his new album is guest vocal'd by Rie Fu, altho his earlier one had Nobuchika Eri who did the song Lights from the PSP game Lumines.

thanks for the idea Jekki. i'll give delofamilia a listen and let you know how it went.

when most people hear j-pop they think underage girls singing about love while dancing. i think most of what i like is considered j-rock or something. i definitely don't go in for the screaming metal and junk.

I'm a huge BoA fan!!! Absolutely love herrr to death! Utada is pretty cool as well.
Girls groups are the thing now in Korea. 2NE1 is the bestestttt out of all in my opinion. :D

dang didnt that shyt jus come out and theyre already doing a repackage?!?!

freakin Korea... seriously...

anyway I needa start keeping up to date with news and forums and stuff instead of jus randomly stumbling onto shyt... becoz...

move's new album came out some weeks ago!!!

move was seriously one of my favorite groups back in the day... until Boulder came out...

I still listen to them tho!!!

also recently picked this shirt up:

I listen to a lot of Japanese music as well, though mostly the Rock end of the spectrum. Supercar, Losalios, Unkie, a little X Japan(though you can never have a little Art of Life), Love Psychedelico, Ajico, Shiina Ringo, Blankey Jet City etc. When I was younger I listened to a lot of Pillows, but we've since grown apart.

not bad looploop. i'm also not into "poppy" stuff as much, but i like my music more melody-driven than you do.

i like a lot of the "rock" that makes its way into anime intros because typically they have VERY strong choruses which i like.

some favs off the top of my head:

Tokyo Jihen - OSCA
Boom Boom Satellites - Shut Up And Explode
Flow - World End
Wino - Taiyou Wa Yoru Mo Kagayaku
L'Arc En Ciel - Driver's High
L'Arc En Ciel - Blurry Eyes
L'Arc En Ciel - Ready Steady Go
Coldrain - 8AM
Beat Crusaders - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
UverWorld - D-Tecnolife
Abbingdon Boys School - Don't Cry

I'm on super-slow internet right now or I'd hook those to youtube for you.
Seriously go check out a few of those songs, people!

maaaan I havent even learned all the dance steps to Oh yet... now I gotta another one to learn already :bomb:

I can never tell Yuri and Yoona apart >_

went and saw High and Mighty Color in concert. it was pretty good but their new album is far to much "hardcore" and "screamo" sounding. probably why it is selling much less than their first 3 albums. still its a rare chance to see a really high caliber japanese band perform.

I recently discovered the awesomeness that is a group called Pamelah

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZJDQ11MAIU

unfortunately, they were active from 95 - 99 and made 5 albums... all of which are real rare and I cant even find MP3s... I only found their first album, and it's awesome!!!

also -> http://www.houseofblues.com/artistfeatures/artistofmonth/1006wondergirls/

Wonder Girls are on US tour, starting this tuesday in Chicago.

the Los Angeles tickets are not cheap ;_;

they get cheaper, but it's becoz 2PM doesnt perform on their later dates

not that I have ever listened to Wonder Girls, but it's always cool to go to a place with a lot of koreans.

Im sure that's why they would switch their style up.

I really like this song tho:

tickets for WG show is $50 might go hmmm and never heard of 2am guess ill check them out if i go.

@JEKKI The former singer Makii , got married to Masato Nakamura! hes 50 ish and shes 23...yea... but the singer is great imo and seeing them finally after being a fan for 4 years was a great exp but it sucks that they are breaking up for good =/ .

wait H&MC broke up for good? that's terrible news.

i feel like the male singer got "more power" in the group after the female singer left so he's now much louder and more prominent on the album and in concert. i wish he'd just sing more and scream a lot less. their new album "swamp man" has only 4 tracks that i like.

4. eyes
5. fly me to the other moon
8. hate
9. living

i usually like at least 7-9 of the songs on their album prior to swamp man.
gou on progressive is probably their best overall album if anyone wants to check them out.

if anyone can recommend similar artists/bands please let me know!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1zYNGQaPPI

Actually Maaki(their old singer) was replaced by HALCA. I personally prefer HALCA over Maaki but I seem to be in the minority there, as well as for liking the entire Swamp Man album. I think people got too stuck on the old and when things changed they didn't accept HALCA. *shrugs* They're definitely not breaking up though. New single/ep thing comes out in mid-August I believe.

As for me, I listen to all kinds of Japanese and Korean music. The only Chinese stuff I really got into was alan, but she's also awesome when singing in Japanese. I listen to a wide spectrum of music, SNSD, 4minute, Perfume(one of my favorites), Ayumi Hamasaki, KOTOKO, YUI, D'espairsRay, ect. Right now I'm in a Kana Nishino kick. Though I still think her best song is her collaboration with NERDHEAD.

90% of the stuff I listen to on a regular basis is asian. That said, by FAR my favorite singer/artist is KOKIA. Her voice is simply incredible. The following song was used as an ED to the anime film "Origin: Spirits of the Past"(English title).

Here's the link to my last.fm account if you'd like to check out my listening habits - http://www.last.fm/user/Gigan22

i was just on handmc.jp this morning and (though admittedly my nihongo could be better) they are 100% breaking up from what i can read.
i'm fine with maki/halca whatever. they sound 99% alike anyway.
according to halca she's pretty upset since she only got a year with haikara before they went separate ways.

i'm hoping for less "girl singing over produced music" and more japanese band suggestions.

Oh well shit... sorry for my jumping in before looking it up. That's terrible news though, I really liked their new-ish sound. This has completely ruined my day.... :(

I listen to a lot of "girl's singing over produced music" as you put it, so the only bands I can think of off the top of my head is Sambomaster, UVERworld, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, and BACK-ON. Maybe D'espairsRay too. Though they're straddling the line of visual kei. I'll look through my music and maybe post more. There are surprisingly few bands like H&MC, thus it's difficult to find ones with a rock sound with male singing yet contrasted with female singing. The ones below are all male singers.
i'm hoping for less "girl singing over produced music" and more japanese band suggestions.
the new record from Inoran is alright... I am a huge Luna Sea fan from back in the days so it's cool to listen to their stuff after the breakup.

I am actually so glad Luna Sea broke up too... had they not they prolly woulda released a bad album lol

I should definitely get back into sum j-rocks.

Hmm never heard of Back-On before, so I'll definitely be checking them out.
You've reminded me of a lot of bands I like but I have neglected to listen to more of (Asian Kung-Fu, UverWorld, Sambomaster) so I've got plenty to check out now.

Never heard of Inoran and Luna Sea, so I'll go investigate those too.

Thanks guys and if you come up with anything else let me know.
Here's some examples of songs I like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apKedHwCXvw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz1xSxwUYRk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N99Oa21IkuY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iztRyN6sjHo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF8l4UBvlFM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hWLPXX6gHk

These are all pretty much girls singing over produced music, except for Tokyo Jihen and FLOW at the end. Sorry!

I really like Miwako Okuda. Can't really explain what it is she's doing in this video though:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GJeiJ2uURY&feature=related

Mikuni Shimokawa's also a favorite of mine. She does the opening and ending theme songs for the Full Metal Panic series. This is not one of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRsA522lYbY

I LOVE Mika Nakashima. Her music's a little bit jazzy. This is a song she did for the NANA live-action films. It is not jazzy (starts about 30 seconds in. It's the end of the film, so if you watch it, be aware of possible spoilers):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUnN33xY1W4

And lastly, for now, some Tokyo Jihen. I think their Adult album is amazing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7O-IDGXRgE

This was an opening theme for Naruto relatively recently:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joJF6fOFY6k

i love World End by FLOW and OSCA by Tokyo Jihen. Good mentions!

i've got a lot of listening to do after i finish moving this weekend.
Never heard of Inoran and Luna Sea, so I'll go investigate those too.
yo, Luna Sea was amazing. again, Im not familiar at all with their work post break up, but when they were still around they put out nothing but hits. All their PV are on youtube, I wont post any but check out Rosier, True Blue, Storm, off the top of my head those are some of my favorite singles.

I havent really listened to j-rock since then, so when I think of j-rock it's stuff like Glay, L'arc, Porno Graffiti, and B'z.

the last recent j-rock stuff I listened to was female vocals actually... Scandal and Steropony to be exact, and I enjoyed them both.

re: Tokyo Jihen, theyve been on my radar for a while but I have yet to listen to them. I heard a bit of buzz about them on neogaf, but I actually never listened to Shiina Ringo so Im sure I have a lot of catching up to do.

anyone listen to old school korean stuff? this was the shit in the 90s!

solid! hell yea, this was the shit when I was growing up.

Drunken Tiger!! Not sure what happened but DJ Shine is no longer performing. Sucks cuz I liked him better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEC3jt0Truc

I could post all day with my favorites from the past. I really can't get into the new stuff now for some reason. I guess since it's mostly all pop and girl bands lately.

old school kpop! it's all about Yoo Seung Jun!

HOT had alot of good songs but my favorite was free to fly.

Sechkies was really good, too. I got into dancing kinda seriously when I saw that one guy (forgot his name but the one that pops alot and raps) bust some breakin moves. I was really shocked seeing something like that at my age.

I've never seen that deux video. They are breakin in it, wow. I was a fan of them as well.

so since we are posting rock vids now here is Miyavi ! im seeing him next friday and i can not wait .

Just introduced to Jpop and Jrock... completely hooked on Scandal right now. Also enjoy Brilliant Green., Garnet Crow, and Zone.

Honestly this kind of pop annoys me though I do on occasion listen to Gee from Girls Generation. Otherwise I'm just in it to see some quirky video full of asian poses.

Scandal is great live , next time they tour you have to go! they toured the US on japannite tour in 2008 and they put on a great shw, check out Chatmonchy they are all girl Jrock band

Oh yeah. Thanks to the person who mentioned Tokyo Jihen. Excellent group. Ringo Shiina is an actual true artist and not just a pretty face meant to sell.
