Jpop, Kpop, Cpop, etc.

Just found out about the Yoshida Brothers. They fuse the traditional with the modern for an awesome sound. I am really digging them atm. They will be doing a US tour in early August, as well as playing at Otacon. It isn't exactly J-pop, but I thought I'd mention them.

For a little more along the lines of J-pop we have Love Solfege. Though they're more classical mixed with modern. For the longest time they released their stuff independently in the doujin community, but now do separate "mainstream" releases as well.

If you're interested in that you may be interested in Akiko Shikata as well. She has an incredible voice and has done many songs for the Ar Tonelico game series.

I really do want to go see them. I live 3 hours from Chicago so I'm around 80% positive I'll be attending.

I grabbed a megaton of stuff from suggestions from this thread and I'll post up impressions and such as I try them out.

Right now I'm listening to a Stereopony album and it's pretty impressive thus far.

shinee has got alot of great songs juliette and senorita being 2 of my favorites and the dance they do in juliette is pretty cool but some of the best kpop dancers ive seen are super junior they put alot into their routines.

Yeah God Knows is a sick song.
Too bad the album version isn't more produced and less rocky than the anime version.

Just wondering who else is waiting for their copy of Polysics Budokan or die !!!!!, or if you seen the dvd how is it?

So my JRock experiment continues.
I'm just going through and deciding "worth further investigation" or "delete it".
Here's my experience thus far:

Stereopony - A keeper
Scandal - A keeper
Uverworld - Expected more out of this and found myself disappointed
Shiina Ringo - I only liked her album Shouso Strip, but not enough to keep it.
Tokyo Jihen - I really expected to love this given my feelings for OSCA but nothing stood out as worth keeping.
Blankey Jet City - I like what I've heard. Keeper.

The rest of what I'm working through:

Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Back-On
B'z
Flow
Glay
L'Arc
LoveHolic
Luna Sea
Porno Graffiti
Sambomaster
Supercar

Where does everybody acquire their music?
edit: more specifically j-rock and pop, by acquire I meant, how do you get it to your mp3 or cd player?

After the radio deceived me (and grunge died) I turned to the internet where I fiddle around reading forums or use Pandora or see some user reviews (pro reviews in music are extremely whack. The least credible of all entertainment media). MTV2 when I lived in Europe for some time before that turned to something awful.

[quote name='thirdrose']Oh, and I know SNSD was mentioned, but I wanted to spotlight their ballad version of Gee (it has some nice build-up):

And as much as I like that, I think Younha's cover blows them outta the water (I'm pretty sure I love her):

super junior did a slow version of gee and it was pretty good. i like how korean groups toy around with their songs like that like when 2ne1 did a reggae version of i dont care.

mega bump! coz I got stuff I wanna talk about!!

first off, Mami Kawada is awesome! I discovered her in 2009 and enjoyed her 2 albums,

then last year she released a new one. I casually listened to it at first, but lately I've been revisiting it and it has really grown on me.

her style is very techno/rock~ish, and her voice is kinda high pitched so it's easy to clump her into stereotypical animu jpop style, but I do not care coz she is awesome and I enjoy her a lot.

track from her latest album and another one of my personal favorite songs:

next is Yu-A, who I already talked about. Her new album was released earlier this year and it's amazing. Not better than her first, but not worse either... it is just as good and that makes me happy.

all her singles are mostly slower ballad type songs, but she was part of a pop group and still manages to supply a very healthy dose of party dance style music, closing the album out with her collaboration tracks she does with other artists.

finally, I discovered my new favorite group sometime last year called Juliet. Typical pop/r&b style group, but I really do enjoy all of their songs a lot.

on the kpop side, I heard this one song by this group called House Rulez

I think I have found my new favorite artist. this song is straight up @_@

I have been able to track down their first 2 albums, I've only listened to the first one thus far.

it's OK, but I'm maad hype to give album 2 a listen as it's the one that this track is off of.
