Just noticed, you can use non JPN issued CC on JPSN

CAGiversary!
I randomly tried using a USA credit card today on JPSN and it went through...before it use to stop you, at least for me, but all the cards I've tried have went through without a hitch.

just put in your valid cc information and when you get to the address page, just hit NEXT. albeit, I had something already entered from when I created the account back in 06' but it's an address that has nothign to do with me or the CC I use. I guess in other words, Sony unlocked AVS check or something.

Yes, it purchased fine. tried 5 different cards 600 yen on 3 of them, 3900yen on one, 800yen on the last, all ewnt through fine. you'll save about 10 to 20 dollars per every 100 dollars instead of buying a prepaid card after the dcc conversion and if your bank has it, bank conversion fee (this is usually around .025 to .03% depending on the bank for Japanese yen in the USA)

This worked for me on the Taiwan store (the Asia store). I was shocked, but it worked.

I have Japanese and European accounts set-up for demos, but I'm not sure what content is out there that I'd want to pay for.

Anyone got a highlight reel of Japanese exclusive stuff?

I just wish I could purchase something from their store using my US account, so I can use PSN cards. I've always wanted the Demon's Souls dynamic theme, but it never came to the states.

Anyone please give us some good Japanese exclusive games to buy, and whether they're in english or have subtitles.

I bought Dark Mist from the Taiwan store. It's in English, so I have no idea why it's not on the US store... It's pretty fun. A top down isometric hack and slash. Don't buy it expecting anything fantastic, but it's a good little game.

there's way too many exclusives fo rme to make a list (and worth it). I mean, there's even great PC Engine games on the JPSN too!

Has anyone tried this on the Europe store? I might buy some classics on the JPSN, but the Europe store has more stuff Id be interested in as its got English titles.

There was talk of it coming to the US and UK/AUS at one time, but SCEA denied it (dunno why) and SCEE just never got around to releasing it (as far as I know). I'd liken it too Zelda meets a run and gun, and second the recommendation, really fun little title.

Other games to recommend

Malicious (on HK PSN as well)
Darius Burst (PSP on HK as well)
Raystorm HD (on HK as well and 360 too)

A lot of the JPN exclusive titles usually trickle to the HK store.

The main thing to look for is PS1 exclusives, PSP games (mostly RPG's in Japanese, eg. Valkyria 3, Zero no Kiseki aka Legend of Heroes Zero  ) and other odds and ends available nowhere else, PC Engine games, themes and stuff.

If you're looking at PAL PS1 games, they don't work with US HDTVs from my experience with the ones offered with the UK PS+ trials that I had in June. Your best bet is to use the Hong Kong PS Store, as their store is in English and they have English and Japanese PS1 games, so you get the benefits of the Japanese store without being confused by the lack of English. The only downside may be that they're probably not 1:1 with the Japanese PS Store.

Thanks, I saw Malicious on there, but didn't get it for some reason. I'll need to look at it again and see if it's something I want. Thanks for the other games, I'll check those out.

I have an HK account, but IM specifically looking for the Outrun games, which I think is Europe only. So has anyone tried this on the European PSN? I can give it a try, but it will be awhile as Id have to set up an account.

Malicious looks similar to that El Shaddai game that's coming out. Also, I think there was another game that came out recently with a similar look to it.

Anybody wanting games not available in the US should check out Flight Control HD, which has good Move controls, at least one exclusive map, and has mostly easy trophies with the exception of the Play 250 Games trophy. I don't know why SCEA blocked its release, but it's a good game and it should be cheap at about $5 or so on either the UK or HK stores.

There was a post a year or so ago that apparently Apple blocked it in the US. Don't know how true it is.

I just really wish the Japanese PSN was easier to browse. Not knowing the language isn't the problem, that thing is a bloody maze.

That doesn't make any sense since they don't have any rights to the game and it's shown up in the US on a number of other services (Steam, DSiWare, etc).

Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe it wasn't Apple, but apparently there's a problem with them releasing it to the US.

http://firemint.com/2010/flight-control-hd-unfortunately-not-coming-to-north-america/

I guess they're under contract that they can't talk about the reasons either.

They definitely can't talk about it, as I asked them about getting a review code when it launched everywhere else and they said they weren't allowed to give codes to NA outlets with no explanation as to why. So I'd say it's definitely an issue with SCEA that no other branch has had a problem with. If you have access to either the HK or UK stores, definitely pick it up since it's cheap (~$6 like the PS1 games on the HK store).

I find the Japanese store a lot easier to navigate and it's more organized than the USA store. You probably just having trouble with the Japanese? It's categofirzed better than USA one.

I don't think so, no. I can find the demos just fine, but anything else is another matter. It seems every single place winds up sending me to a field of strange obscure PS1 games.

Yeah that's def. Lack of knowing japanese and not that its harder to navigate. Like I said its more organized with more sub categories

Good thing I didn't buy Malicious. Hopefully we'll get the nice malicious avatars too.

Also been wanting this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQmV9-XboGE

The demo should still be available on the JPSN.

It's an arcade shoot 'em up with really effin' catchy chiptune music.
(and the avatars for it are 20yen each)
Almost imported that sucker from Play-Asia, but it's like, $70~

Hopefully it will get an English release.

Just for clarification, where are the demos? First selection from the top? Second selection? I took one quarter of japanese in college like 10 years ago and can't figure anything out.

No where near psn right now but japan doesn't have lots of demos. Its in the ps3 section. Japan psn lacks in demo.

I wasn't holding my breath with Malicious in the US, especially with how long its been since they released it, it might come or it might end up as another Dark Mist. It's fully playable in its current form the only thing you'd need is some pointers on how to play it since it has an extremely complex control / battle system, otherwise you'll flounder about not knowing what to do next or how to properly control your character and succeed in combat correctly.

That game you're talking about (in the video) is that GRev shmup, I personally wished they would have released the other one (the sci-fi shmup) that was a 360 exclusive.

That's mainly because JPN PSN only leaves demos up for a very LIMITED amount of time, then they REMOVE them, only way to access them is to have them on you're D/L list, that's not new news to any of us who've been using it since the beginning, you have to get those demos on your D/L list at the very least if you don't want to risk not having the opportunity to play them, I've missed quite a few in the past.
