Just spent $75 on a new game! Whats that make me?

Ryles: No beer and no new games make ryles go something, something, something.

Marge: No beer and no new games make ryles go crazy?

Ryles: Don't mind if I do!!!!!!!

Exactely! Good Stuff.
Well, the way sports games are now there are exclusive licensing agreements so prices are going to be higher for a long time. A sports game fan is no less a video game fan than someone who spends $150 on Suikoden II. I wouldn't actively look to spend that much if I could help it though.
It is unfair to compare a common regular average sports game that will decrease in value within six months (MLB 2K6) to a much harder to find RPG that will only further increase in value due to a limited run (Suikoden II).

Who cares if he paid $75 for a sports game? People are paying $50 for KH2 when it will more than likely go GH and one could get it at $15 after GCC at BestBuy.
Who cares if he paid $75 for a sports game? People are paying $50 for KH2 when it will more than likely go GH and one could get it at $15 after GCC at BestBuy.
At least it didn't come out of my wallet so I shouldn't be bitching... but this idiot deserves to be mocked.

so thats like saying, "wtf? console prices are ridiculous! i had to pay $900 to get a 360 because i couldnt wait" you paid, for the game, to each his own, but dont go complaining because youre impatient, your post says the extra was because you just have to have it right when it hits the shelves.
It's not really a problem I like to spend my money, I have alot of money then spend it all on games or clothes or something and then am broke for a week until I get paid again. Rinse and repeat.

It's just the purpose of the thing. Having to spend $75 is a little much. I remember I could get a brand new game overnight shipped for only $60. god damn were those the days.

And to all that said don't order online you must not of read my OP as I live in a hick town and my only gaming outlet is a wal-mart who's selection is lackiluster at best.
Honestly, you have no right to complain.

It was your choice to get the $15 overnight shipping instead of waiting the extra 3-5 days for normal shipping or till Tuesday when Wal Mart would have probably gotten it in stock.

It isn't like you were trying to get some game that is exclusive to Japan or some game with a 10,000 print run; it's MLB 2K6. It is guaranteed to be at every place that sells 360 games within a few days of being released and drop at least 50%+ in value within 6 months.

blah sports. Its your own damn fault for supporting the phenomenon by buying it.

most 360 owners are such impulse buyers/traders that you can find used versions of any 360 game a week or two later.. i've seen it with ghost recon, fight night, oblivion, call of duty, condemned, far cry... etc.

I vow not to buy any more brand new 360 games cause idiots tend to buy them and trade them the next week.

well at least people like you who pay premium keep retailers/publishers in business so we can buy all the cheapass stuff and not completely bankrupt them ;)
At least it didn't come out of my wallet so I shouldn't be bitching... but this idiot deserves to be mocked.
How is Mr. Ryles an idiot for buying a game he wants to play as soon as it comes out? Sure it's a sports game and it's gonna drop faster then a RAREZ RPG Game but he wants to play it. He's not buying it for collecting purposes. Just because "You" wouldn't pay that much for a sports game doesn't make anyone an idiot for buying it.
Why didn't you go to WalMart to get the game if that is the ONLY store you have around you in BFE?
I also see no one has read the OP. He only has a Wal-Mart where he lives. They still haven't got in Kingdom Hearts 2 yet when it was released 2 weeks ago. From track record his Wal-Mart has never got a game in on time. Thus thats the reason he ordered online. Hope that helps. :)
At least it didn't come out of my wallet so I shouldn't be bitching... but this idiot deserves to be mocked.
That's just a bit harsh isn't it?
i'd only pay over 70 if the game comes with a guitar controller!
Precisely :)

However, when I was young and had lots of disposable income, I did get sucked into paying $72.99 for a copy of Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES. Scarily, I'd say I got my money's worth out of it -- had a few SF2 junkie friends and we spent many a weekend playing it.
i'd only pay over 70 if the game comes with a guitar controller!
Some of us CAGs got Guitar Hero PO for $30 shipped from EB (when mine didn't work, I was able to exchange it for a brand-new one).

I won't even pay $50 for a game . . . I waited 10 months to get a really, really great game like God of War for $15.
Actually $75 games were quite common in the days of the SNES. I believe $75 is what my mother paid for Street Fighter II when it first came out. I think Chrono Trigger was $75 as well. The most I ever paid was $70 something for a new Tales of Destiny II from Defender's old site and $79.99 for Growlanser Deluxe. I don't make a habit of spending that much but as long as you enjoy the purchase that's all that matters.
I paid $80 for Street Fighter II & Final Fantasy III the day they came out. I remember all or most of the SNES RPGs being $70 when they came out and alot of other SNES games being $60-70. And how cheap getting Suikoden seemed when I got it for $43 at Circuit City when it came out after being used to how expensive RPGs were on the SNES.
Precisely :)

That's how I felt about Street Fighter II also. Even though I paid $80 for it I played it almost everyday for about a year so I figured I got my money's worth. I probably spent plently more then that playing it at the arcade.
That's just a bit harsh isn't it?
True that was a bit harsh. At least he should be laughed at for spending far too much for MLB 2K6. Oh well... to each their own right?

sports games are the best ones. If he is an idiot for doing this then what does that make people who bought Rhapsody and Persona 2 for $75.00 only to have them reprinted. Yes i know they didn't know that would happen at the time but oh well. Same with people who spend $90+ on suikoden ii and valk. profile. DO you consider them idiots? I would much rather pay $75.00 for a baseball game i can play over and over to no limit, than pay $50.00 for a game that has an ending and then your done.

Personally i consider paying $420 for a 360 stupid. I don't consider people idiots for doing it but to each his own i guess

That's not a fair comparison because rarity for Suikoden II doesn't compare to a sports game.

Plus, some RPGs have multiple endings and side quests, so you could have lots of replay time too.

And if someone had bought Suikoden II or Rhapsody when they were first released, they would have paid 45-55 dollars or so.

Your comparison isn't really fair.
Most people who buy a suikoden 2 or a Final Fantasy 3 probably let them sit around collecting dust and say " Hey I got RAREZ RPG and spent $100.00 on it, am I cool now"?

Yea the comparsion wasn't really fair since a sports game has way way way more replay. :)

Unless that sports game is Stadium Events. Obscure, I know.
I feel kind of weird just paying $75 to order a copy of MLB 2k6 for the xbox 360. That price tag is just ridiculous. Gaming prices are getting out of control and it is starting to piss me off. Getting to the point where I have to pay $75 to get a new 360 game when it launches.

Sure the price could have only been $65 if I use standard shipping, but I'm thhe kind of person who likes to get the new games ASAP so I use overnight shipping. And as you may or may not know I live hewe in winnemucca Nevada and my only gaming retailer is wal-mart. And the chances of them getting MLB this week are slim to none, and slim just left town. (A little quote I heard today) Hell my wal-mart hasn't even got in kingdom hearts 2 yet, which is also pissing me off.

Anyways back on point, $75 to get a new game is out fucking stupid!
Here's what I don't get... you say gaming prices are out of control, yet the game's MSRP is only $60... you paid $15 for overnight shipping, so maybe it's shipping prices that are out of control?

Maybe the problem isn't that game prices are expensive, it's that you live in the middle of nowhere, and pay out the ass for the conveinence of overnight shipping?

You say $75 to get a new game is fucking stupid, yet you yourself pay that extra $15 for a conveinence... you're acting like everyone has to pay $75.

Well overnight shipping is only $10 the other $5 was taxes, the average person pays about $65 for a 360 game so I only payed $10 over retail. And for the services of Shipping a game to my house overnight half way across the counrty, $10 ain't bad.

And for the record I never really complained about any of this. Just trying to make an overall statement that gaming prices are getting out of hand. I just had to defend myself because all these other peeps start calling me an idiot and hating on sports games.

I'm confused about this whole thread. Actually, I think CAGers were pretty restrained in their insults considering that the title of this thread invites insults.

If you wanted to complain about the price of games you should have just kept the thread limited to a discussion of $60 price tags for 360 games.

Personally I figure I'll be paying $15 for most of the 360 games that I buy (if I ever get a 360).

I don't think the OP is an idiot . . . actually, I'm glad there are people like him out there. We need plenty of big spenders to help grease the wheels of the industry. I'm content to cheapass my way through this hobby but if games only sold for $5-15 nothing would get made.

i think paying 14.99 for a game is too expensive already let alone 60.00 or 75.00
the last game i bought full price was dynasty warriors 4 for xbox when it first came out. even that, i had a 10.00 coupon which made it 39.99
Personally I figure I'll be paying $15 for most of the 360 games that I buy (if I ever get a 360)
So you are planning on buying disk only bootleg copies?

There are some games you just have to get as quickly as you can. I had to have Kingdom Hearts 2 so I payed $50 for it. I found a mint complete copy of Valkyrie Profile for $58 so I had to have it. Maybe It was stupid but I am glad I own these 2 great games. However, besides NCAA 2006, I have never paid near this much for a game. There are just certain games like the Final Fantasy series that I would pay this kind of money for. I don't think anybody is truly an idiot based on their game purchases but it is amazing at what we will drop on these things.
So you are planning on buying disk only bootleg copies?
What will be the price of Kameo in, say, 2 years? Most likely $20.

If BB still has the GGC that makes it $15. Or, taking advantage of a sale (or some other kind of coupon) will bring it down to $15. Maybe a used copy.

I'm certainly not that hot to play any of the 360 games that I've seen to buy them for full price right now.

See I can't wait that long. 2 years means the game will be way outdated.

So you will pay for your impatience. I don't need to impress anyone so I wait like most of the other people on this site. Thanks for paying full price for the games though. I agree that you have helped make some of the games I play great by paying 3 times more on a game than most of us will pay. David Jaffe just got spinny rims on his Lambo thanks to you homey. I hope you look in the mirror with pride on being the first guy on your block to play MLB 2K6 or whatever the new ish is. I salute you.
See I can't wait that long. 2 years means the game will be way outdated.
Outdated? If a game is worth playing, it will still be worth playing 2 years from now. Is it only the flash of graphics that is making people spend $60 for a game?

This attitude makes me all the more convinced that I'm better off waiting with this new generation of systems. Let the dust settle and the prices come down and then I will join in.

I'm still happy with the current games and I have a backlog of $5-$15 games to play.
I'm certainly not that hot to play any of the 360 games that I've seen to buy them for full price right now.
You haven't played Oblivion...

I don't mind spending $75 on a game if I know it's a game I'm going to get a lot of fun/use out of. I paid $70 for Oblivion CE, and I've gotten over 50 hours of enjoyment out of it and I'm nowhere near being done. I spent like $75 for the import of the last Fire PRo Wrestling game and have gotten a lot of enjoyment from that too. It's all in the eye of the player.

Does anyone else remember when SNES games used to be $80 new? Personally, I'm surprised prices have stayed as low as they are for as long as they have.
So, how's the game...you should have it RIGHT now, right? I mean, it shipped yesterday.
Ya I actually have it, but I'm home for lunch right now. Will play when I get home from work tonight.
So, how's the game...you should have it RIGHT now, right? I mean, it shipped yesterday.
It's pretty sweet. The hitting takes some time to get used to as well as the pitching. The controls ar pretty standard. I figure it was a good purchase as Me an my friend will be playing a bunch of epic matches. I like the replay feature. Liek If a good play happened in the 4th inning, when that guy is up to bat in the 9th it will show the replay from back in the fourth. It adds realism.

Good stuff, if you have been anticipating this game for awhile, then I don't think anything should stop you from buying the game(even at 75$). But... the fact that it's a sports game that will go down to 20 bucks in a month or two...
.............

Anyways back on point, $75 to get a new game is out fucking stupid!
As long as you're happy with the game, that is all that matters.

It's a very fun game. Using the right stick to swing is alot funner than just pressing the A button. I have a had a couple feilding and base running problems in teh first 3 games I played against my Bro, but I'm sure those will work themselves out as I play some more and get used to it all.

I think I am off to do a home run derby to practice my hitting. Then Probably start a franchise, ar as they call it here a GM mode with my beloved Cubs!
