Killzone 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info

[quote name='doubledown']Anyone have a spare demo code? I really don't feel like creating a Euro account.[/quote]

It takes 2 minutes, tops.

uuuug...I need to jump through hoops to get permission to download a demo?

That's nuckin futz.

I was thinking of buying this outright from Goozex with their new games promo, but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer until they offer the demo to us common people.

Check the playstation blog. Supposedly they got couple hundred codes and are giving them out through twitter if you ask for it. Although I'm sure it's too late now.

[quote name='help1']It takes 2 minutes, tops.[/quote]

Exactly...it is WAY easier than asking for or trying to win a demo code. It amazes me that some people are too lazy to make the account but take the effort to ask online. Breaks my brain.

It's seems counterproductive not to make it just available on the PS store. I was unaware that Sony needed to hone their buzzkilling skills. I thought they were already well practiced in the "we don't know what the fuck we're doing" marketing arena.

Um... Is the demo really short or did I somehow do something wrong?

I ran around, killed a bunch of guys, hit some switches to open a big gate on the beach then, all done.

It took 10 minutes at most. If I played it again it'd probably go quicker.

Supposed DLC info. Have to dig through the translation.

Echter kon Guerrilla nog geen details over deze DLC geven.
Guerrilla however could not yet give details on the DLC.

Finally made a UK account to grab the demo last night. It looks really nice so far. It reminded me that I can't aim for crap with a controller and I yearn for the days of old with QuakeWorld on a PC with a keyboard and mouse. (Where's the support.. our consoles have USB slots?) I was never great, but I was pretty damn good. Maybe I'm just getting old too?

Regardless, console FPS games aren't always my cup of tea, I enjoy a game well done either way. I'm already sold on the hype and can see the quality in place so far. This won't be the be all end all game of the year for me, but I know it will most likely be the best FPS out for a while. Day one buy (Thanks in advance SonyCard Rewards points) for sure.

[quote name='Inf^Shini']The aiming is a little heavy, so it has a tad different feel to it than most other FPS games[/quote]

I didn't know we were replacing the word "slow" with "heavy" these days to make it seem like something was purposefully done in a game. The aiming is slow and turning up the sensitivity fixes it (for some).

I agree with Malik. Although I deleted the demo after one play-through so I cant go back and check again. In the beta I think I had my sensitivity up, but it was still slow(heavy)

I played the demo a couple of time and found the weapons to be a little off or slow like others have stated but I think it will still be one of the better FPS overall in quite awhile. So I am looking forward to picking it up.

Ah.. I meant to knock my own skills, not the game controls.. but I see it's been a hot topic. I don't play enough FPS games to draw precise comparisons on the spot.. I think I would just chalk it up to every game being a little bit different from one to next anyway. I mean.. we're all using the same range of adjustment so we're all on a level playing field with it, right?

Yeah it didnt really have that much of an effect. Just less precision. Plus other guns could handle differently, as I have only used the Assault rifle, Magnum and Shotgun. I would hope that the sniper rifle allows for more precision.

Also I think I read somewhere that GG is releasing the engine for this game to developers at GDC. Thats pretty awesome.

Some are worried that the weightier controls will negatively impact the multiplayer experience; however, GG have made sure to adjust the controls and animations to suit this experience:

"Also, the online experience is quicker as we've made the controls and animations a little faster during design."

This is exactly why it was so noticeable to me in the demo. After playing the MP beta, then not playing it for a couple months, the SP aiming felt very slow.

Thank god.

That's great to hear! BTW, Smiggity PS3 laser replacement is on the way! Should be here tomorrow(my B-Day).

Well isn't that one hell of a b-day gift!!!! TBuckner has been keeping me updated on your situation, and he mentioned you had already ordered it. Hopefully the actual replacement goes off without a hitch.

Yeah, I did but the seller delayed the shipment because of some bad ones in the batch. So, I had to wait for them to get a replacement shipment. I have 30 days to return/exchange it. I'm on a two week break from school right now, so best believe I will run that fucker though the ringer!

[quote name='OatmealMu']In my excitement of getting an A-rank in Valkyria Chronicles I posted in this thread.[/QUOTE]

 That's what I thought! When I saw your post in the VC thread! VC is another game I can't wait to sink my teeth into.

Tried the demo yesterday. It seems really stupid that pushing up on the stick pops you out of cover. If you're running for cover, you're probably hitting up. Which means as soon as you get behind cover, the first thing you're going to do is step out of it and get shot.

[quote name='VipFREAK']Isn't that how Gears of War works... ?[/QUOTE]

Nope, you just pop your head up by pulling on the LT or blind fire (hard to do with an FPS).

Anyhow, finally got around to playing the demo over the weekend and I was thoroughly impressed. The gameplay is much improved over the original Killzone. I'm excited to see what the multiplayer has to offer. My one complaint is that the controls/aim feels a bit too slow for my liking.

Then you should probably let go of "up" as soon as you hit cover.
That being said, it's never happened to me. Did it happen to you?

[quote name='dallow']I turned the sensitivity down a couple notches.

Had no problems shooting?
I'm just that good.[/quote]

We shall see ;) lol :p

12:00
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Hi everyone, and welcome to our first ever PlayStation.Blog chat, featuring Seb Downie from Guerrilla Games!

12:01
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Hi folks and welcome to the first Killzone 2 live blog chat!
It’s my first time, so please be gentle and I look forward to talking to you guys and answering any of your questions. And no, despite my handle I am not a chick. I am in fact a hairy game developer type. So whose first?

12:01
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Actually, we've got a couple of questions to get things going, culled from earlier comments. First: Can I set up a clan tournament through Killzone.com?

12:02
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Yes you can! The site has the same functionality as the game in that regard so you can plan your challenges and events from your PC and work on your clan.

12:04
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Question #2, and then we'll take it to the fan's questions: Are my stats such as accuracy tracked per weapons or as an overall weapons stat?

12:04
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Yes, all the same stats that are tracked in-game are also tracked on the site. All weapon groups, kill, suicide, team-kill, kick votes ability uses and much more are tracked and you can sort by any of the stats as well as look at them over the past 24 hours, weekly, monthly and All-time

12:07
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: ok, questions from you guys incoming: [Andre Issa]
First off, much respect to Seb and the rest of the awesome, hard-working Guerrilla team!! Back at E3 2007, it was said that just one level in Killzone 2 took up around 2GB of data. Now that the game has gone gold and been put on Blu-ray how much space can you say the game uses up? Is it a 50GB blu-ray disc? Thanks!

12:08
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Well the 2GB thing was because it had to have all the shared assets in one place like character models, weapons and such. The game fits on a 25GB, but anything less would not have been possible

12:10
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Noks415]
Could you please elaborate on how the "Valor" trophies work for the online multiplayer? How exactly do you achieve weekly online honor ranks #1 through #4?

12:11
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Right. It is based on the top % of that weeks players. So the top 1% of 100 players might be 1 guy, but if there are 100000 folks playing your chance of getting it are much increased. You will then get a valor rank with a fancy little rank icon on your profile to show you are a top player as well as a trophy to go with it

12:12
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: We have a pre-game lobby where people can still pick their faction and talk openly. The game then goes to a Spawn-select screen where the factions have been split up and you talk among the faction to discuss tactics, can set up your squads and your characters before going in-game.

12:14
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [fykdig] -
will the multiplayer use the cover system or is it more run and gun? if theres no cover system will it be useful to change the controls?

12:15
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: There is no cover system in MP. We found, through playtesting that it did not work in the 360 degree combat environment of online and people found it faster and easier to simply crouch and duck and wee in fact working against the system, so we took it out. Will continue to explore this though. We have a crouch toggle in MP as well. As for changing the controls...thats up to you guys to find what works for you

12:17
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Anuiran]
Will guerrilla be hosting any tournaments through killzone.com?

12:18
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Absolutely. Clans can set up their own tournaments for up to 64 clans, but we'll be setting up "official" tournaments of up to 256 clans. Thats potentially 4098 players in one tournament (if I got my maths right there). All the functionality of the game is mirrored on the site with a couple of additional features and stats that are not tracked in-game

12:19
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [JBruno]
What is the basic differences of Killzone 2 multiplayer playability for another rivals as COD4 and Counter Strike?

12:20
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Well our unique mode is Warzone. Usually a game is only Deathmatch, or Capture the Flag. We throw all the game modes in there and they play off one by one randomnly so the game changes every few minutes and teams have to change their tactics and concentrate on other areas of a map.If you want you can of course play big long Bodycount only games (our version of Team Deathmatch).. its all customizable.

12:23
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Every clan will have their own clan page with their stats, members, recent games and yes, there will be a clan forum

12:24
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Comment From TheHater]
If you lose all your Clan points, it is possible to regain any since you will not have any to bet?

12:26
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Yes, but taking part in 'free' tournaments where the prize is valor. So Tournaments where you don't have to put in your own valor to take part. The tournaments where there is a entry fee will of course yield bigger winnings. But would you want to be in a clan with no points? That would be a bit sad, no? :D

12:27
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Hi again everyone, we're chatting live with Seb Downie, producer at Guerrilla Games. We've got about 30 more minutes with Seb, so thanks to all of you asking questions!

12:28
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Mindblower] Will you be able to get experience points in customizable games? Because in Resistance 2 you can't.

12:29
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Good question Legendbyname!!

12:31
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [GENERALSPARTAN27] About how many kills do you need to get the next badge in each class?

12:32
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: It's more about mission points, rather than kills, but each rank the required points start going higher. 100 points for the top rank.and then we start increasing with each rank. 2800 for the top clan, but the game does by no means end there. You'll need to play with each character class, what we call badges and use the abilities to upgrade each Badge to unlock the secondary ability and upgrades

12:32
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Comment From Legendbyname]
So what is your favorite Belgian beer Seb? I really like me some Chimay

12:33
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Chimay is not bad. Drinking Jupiler right now, but I recently found a bad boy called Gouden Draag (Golden Dragon) Stuff is like amber nectar, but you wake up with no pants in a prison cell. Allegedly

12:36
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Electropuff {PSN id}]
what other modes are included in warzone and what do you have to do in each?

12:37
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Bodycount = Team Deathmatch
Assassination = Defend or kill a randomnly selected target from a faction. Great fun
Search and Retrieve = A propaganda speaker is dropped in the map and you have to bring it back to the enemy territory drop-off point.
Capture and Hold = Defend flags for spawn-points
Search And Destroy = Defend or Attack an enemy fortification and plant a C4 to blow it up.
Assassination and S&D are played twice in a Warzone. So both factions get to attack/defend

12:39
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Shout-out to Ryan - www.reanimators.net. See you in the Waterhole again some day. Miss you in the Dam.

12:40
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Torgo-PSNation] Seb, it's obvious that GG paid attention to the comments in the beta, and the changes are all for the better as far as I've seen. Where's the best place to post comments etc regarding issues within the game so that they'll be seen by the right people?

12:41
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Well I've been on PSU for 4 years now, reading your feedback on all the games, but we'll be on www.killzone.com as much as we can and will continue to talk, listen and learn from you guys to help us make better games.

12:42
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Josh] In terms of stat tracking, will I be able to look through every game I've played? Bungie.com does this with Halo 3 and I've always wondered why more games didn't do that.

12:44
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: We have a couple of secrets still to announce which will cover your question, so I'll leave that one open til the new version of the site goes live.

12:45
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Bobby B] Are you married Seb? Either way, will you marry me?

12:45
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: I am not, but am willing to listen to financially viable options on a blog chat.

12:46
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [LordSloth] So, how does the in-game Killzone.com support work exactly?

12:48
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: We will have a PS3 compatible site too, but the site is primarily designed for being able to access your clan when you are not at home, infront of your PS3. If you are on your PS3 you might as well go into the game.

12:49
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: We've got 10 minutes more to go here with Seb - he's currently typing away feverishly to catch up with the torrent of questions coming in!

12:50
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Boat-] can you setup Clans before the 27th on www.killzone.com.??

12:50
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: No. A player has to be a Sergeant to be able to create a clan and thus have to play first. So you wont be able to create a clan yourselves just yet.

12:51
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Rippa] Do we have the option to play a "NO HUD" mode in MP? Similar to Call of Duty's "HARDCORE" mode. I like playing without cross-hairs. It "FEELS" more "REAL"

12:51
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Sean - this will be saved, right here in this post. For ever and ever and ever. And ever.

12:52
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: You can switch off your own HUD, but not for the other players. This is something we can maybe still implement though after release. I personally always liked that idea myself. Anyway, we'll listen to ideas and suggestions and if we can easily implement them in future patches we'll consider it.

12:53
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Comment From Spartancloud] Is it easy to mute players?

12:53
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Yes it is. If in-game, press Select, highlight the player you want and you can mute them or kick vote them

12:55
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Moebius] Are there any femal hleghast ? Will we ever get to see one ?

12:56
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Good question. The Helghast are still somewhat human behind those masks, so there must be Helghast women. Would not want to wake up next to one though.

12:56
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [userfriendly] When will you add an option on your website for us Canadians? I'm forced to choose the American flag :(

12:57
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Haha, not the first one to complain about that. It's more about the server region and language than your nationality, but I'll point it out to the website people.

12:58
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [halomaki] Tell us about the Custom Soundtrack feature. Will Killzone 2 have it?

12:59
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Only for multiplayer via the XMB. In Single player the music is designed to match the action so it would be hard for us to mix up your favourite boyband.

1:01
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Next question is the last one for Seb:

1:01
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: [Rizz0o0] Can we expect Guerrilla Games to continue to support their game after release and continue giving the fans the best game possible?

1:04
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Absofrigginglutely. We'll continue to listen to you guys about ways to make the game better for everyone. We'll stick around for a while yet.

1:04
Jeff Rubenstein, PlayStation.Blog: Any final comments, Seb?

1:05
Seb Downie, Guerrilla Games: Well that hour went by much too fast for my liking. I was only just getting warmed up, but some guys with orange goggles and gas-masks just abseiled through the ceiling and insist I go home and spend some quality time with the girlfriend. I'll be back on www.killzone.com to answer questions this week and hope to see you there. Thanks and see you online!

Anyone want to make a TL;DR version of that with any good bits?

And yay, I should be joining in around launch time with this game, assuming Goozex ships my copy soonest.

9 Days!:whee:

I really hope this turns out to be as good as the reviews are making it out to be. If the online is done right this game might just kill my social life.

For both Sony and my sake (PS3-centric owner), I hope it meets Sony's expectations for the game. Don't know what Sony was thinking of allowing online reviews a month before launch (only magazines should do that and then 1 week before launch you should be seeing the online sites throwing up their reviews). Anyone seen any Killzone 2 commercials yet?
