Killzone 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info

Is the MP good? I can't play until next week, when my Amazon copy comes.

Probably for the best, got a research paper to write.

Played the online portion for several hours now, and I'm pretty impressed with both the chaotic atmosphere and game design.

I think the slower pace agrees with me better than the twitch shooters as I've been in the Top 3 when a match ends. Looking forward to playing with the competitive clan.

Yeah i'm lovin' the online because I can crouch and just shoot people and not have to be hectic.

Also Killzone.Com is amazing. I love the match replays heh.

Ecofreak add me to PSN we should play sometime :D

so far i'm not disappointed at all with this game. the sp and mp are top notch. I have been playing all day and after a while you get used to the controls. The way I see it if the made the controls just like COD or Halo then people would be on here bitching about how this game is just like COD or Halo, lol.

I unlocked medic then more weapons. Having a bunch of medics on the team is F-N great. I had to take a break but getting back on in like 30 min.

anyone finding the multiplayer a little too chaotic? maybe it was just the servers i was on, but with 32 players, i seemed to die repeatedly before i could get anywhere close to the objective (whether it was assassination or search and destroy, etc.). the changing modes are cool, but with 32 players, and the starting build (basic gun, no badges) I felt pretty powerless. anyone else feel this more crazy than cod4 or halo 3?

I agree that 32 players is just to chaotic, I don't know when I kill or where I get killed from. I perfer the medium size games of 16 players max. The changing modes are cool, but the matches last way too long. I wish you could have the option to not have it like that and possibly just do one round of each type on various maps.

Yeah it was hectic, but again, if you just run into the firefight that's whats going to happen.

When I was the assassination target though I managed to hide myself in a corner and got the badge/whatever for not getting killed :D

For everyone having problems with the control settings not saving, what you do is choose your options, then go back, wait a few seconds, then it will save.

I feel the same way about the levels. Started to remind me of the first Killzone(PS2). And I just don't see these spectacular graphics that everyone is raving about. Yeah, it looks nice, but I've seen better. Explosions and AI are spot on, but the dialogue is much to be desired with the abundance of "F" words and "S" words. For a game that was shown at E3 2006, it could've been better. Not impressed at all.
Sooo much whining, we're gonna need a topic dedicated to bitching about KZ2. That way I won't have to listen to it. Actually, we need a General Bitching Topic in the General Gaming forum so everybody can go there can complain.

... Sorry, its been a looong day.
:wall:

The graphics are pure heaven.

I know this was probably posted, but just so others can see it:

Use Alternate 2 Controls if you are having trouble getting used to the normal ones and also, turn the sensitivity up 3/4's of the way on both the x and y axis.

I didn't do this for the first stage and I was so pissed off until I read that and now I'm loving every second.

lol finally played the demo, wow pure eye candy!!!

i like the shooting controls it feels very realistic. u cant just spray or else ull have major recoil!

my friends were blown away!
gonna get this with my $30 Reward zone pts woot!

i dont know why people keep bitching about the control scheme, its realistic get used to it, no one in the army can fucken aim an mp4 at one dude then the next dude that fast realisticly

why are some even complaining about the colors? what the heck do u want reds and blues and magentas?
theyre in an industrialish area and buildings, i dont see any pink on the walls. maybe your tvs suck or something but looks like a real warehouse to me.

I played the demo.. ( I bought the game) I decided to try the demo before I played the game and you know I'm fighting against the controls. I'm using Alt 2, so the buttons are in the right place, but the actual gameplay I'm still fighting with. I've been adjusting the sensitivity settings like crazy, however, I think the issue is that I want to play Call of Duty 4, and this is Killzone, and I need to focus on playing the game as is, instead of trying to make it something else.

Edit: what do you guys think is a good level for the x and y axis sensitivity settings.

my x-axis is straight up 50% right now, may up it later. But my y-axis is like 2/3rds or whatever I found that gave me better up/down sensation.

Not a half bad idea actually.

But since everyone has a grip, here is mine....When your partner runs off to the next checkpoint!!! What I mean is, he just goes right away, sometimes stealing kills I'd like to make (no biggie though). But what really bothers me about it is: I just want to look around. Ya know how much time I spent in Bioshock admiring the little details.

Chill out partner, let me enjoy this and find the hidden things.

Really I could care less, the game is sweet, that's all there is to it!!

Heh. I actually only uped the turn axis 1, and the other I dropped 1...

So far I'm liking the online play. Haven't gotten into single player yet. One complaint I had was I was leveling up to fast and couldn't find anyone to play lol. But rest of the world seems to have caught up or what ever now.

Some of the issues I feared seemed to be happening but I'm not sure if they will end up good or bad. As people start unlocking more and more things, the gameplay/balance will changed. I noticed it when one team had some good items and locked my team in their spawn area for most of the match. Sooner or later people catch up, but the battlefield wouldn't be the same.

People don't want total realism in their games. IF they did, they'd just join the army.

Also, I love how you go on about how the game is so realistic, and then say that you like the fact that everything is gray. Not everything in real life is gray, so how is that realistic?

The sensitivity is too damn slow. I've gotten used to everything else. I mean, I used Sensitivity Level 9 in CoD4 and WaW, and in this I have to turn it all the way up and it is still not good enough.

man, pretty solid game, but I swear whenever I play an FPS on the ps3 controller I always wish I could use a 360 controller on it... or a mouse of course (too bad the frag fx was a piece of crap)

I think the problem w/ the sensitivity isn't necessarily the sensitivity itself, but there is a certain lag in the acceleration from when you move your stick to when the character turns onscreen.

Just something I threw together. I guess we're just gonna have to get used to it.

So true.
That's what my problem with the controls are. There is a delay from when you hit the stick, to when your character turns. And then it is also hard to make small adjustments when you are aiming. That's why the bowling ball pic is perfect in describing the controls.

Luckily it doesn't take too long to get adjusted to them.

Enjoying the single player and am hoping the multiplayer can hold a candle to Resistance 2. The maps look really good from what I have seen but I haven't played multiplayer yet because I need to get used to the aiming and movements first. I'm really liking the red eyes exclusive best buy theme it is thousands of times better than the qore killzone theme.

Everyone should just go post their complaints in manaknight's blog. That way he can carefully explain to you how wrong you are.

I just about used to the controls, still need to get the sensitivity just right, ... almost there. I think its a mix of the right sensitivity settings and me getting used to the game.

edit: A bitching thread would be nice, but truthfully, at this point, Those who like the game like and those who don't don't. Those that like it, only thing that can be done is to enjoy the game.

Oh yeah, I have to give props to the devs.. for the Killzone.com website. I love those damn replays. Those replays are really going to help keep cheating low. Because if someone has a hot spot to sit and snipe from all day, then everyone's going to see it. EVERYONE! I love call of duty 4 and W@W, but I don't think I'm going back.

I'm gonna go ahead and co-sign the bitching thread idea. I got a chance to play for a little bit last night, but hopefully I'll be able to log in a few hours today.

Controls are driving me nuts.. I hate that sprinting is mapped to a stick no matter what. In the first Killzone they let you map out the controller however you like.. why didn't they do that this time?

The single player is pretty fun (although still hard for me on the medium level) but multiplayer is where it will shine. I give it a thumbs up :D

Just so everyone knows, if you see colored smoke (think green is friendly, orange is enemy) that is a spawn point. So many people were freaking out seeing me and team mates walking out of the smoke right on top of them. Don't just hit x when the spawn menu comes up, hit the directional buttons or just look to see if there are any green dots you can select. I got to get better at placing them so it isn't a "fish in a barrel" session...

You can use them to get around the map easier... AS well as selecting the big blue dot with a S in it when you're in a squad (that is your Squad leader!). So JOIN A SQUAD (mine!).

Leveling up is easier then I thought. Getting the badges is what is tough but it is more fun then I thought this way too.

>>>oh, and is it just me or does single player look way better them multi? I know that is how it usually goes but for some reason it seemed a heck of a lot sharper.

I tried the sniper rifle (pick them up when the scout goes down! ;)), its pretty cool. Sucks you have to unlock the second zoom setting though.

Also, dump more med packs if you got them. In a crowded area or not, someone will come along and use it most likely.

Yes that's what I am going to do so that he can explain to me why this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

For a second there I thought I was the only having problems with the sensitivity. I guess I have been spoiled by Call of Duty but I know what the PS3 fanboys are going to say about that.

In any event, I'm through three levels and I'm enjoying it because I enjoy a good FPS but its not better than R2 yet. The weapons are pretty meh so far and the enemy variation is practically nill.

How do I join a squad, Starkkat? I got a little pop-up that said "you've been invited to join a squad" but I didn't know what to do about it.
Everyone should just go post their complaints in manaknight's blog. That way he can carefully explain to you how wrong you are.
I rather not have people fight in my blog. ;)

Anyway, my only advice is that if people are expecting it to play exactly like CoD4, prepare to be disappointed because the two play very differently. All I have to say is that the first time I found the controls a bit weird in the demo, but once I adjusted them and so on, they are almost perfect for me. Only thing a bit weird is sensitivity, but everything else is fine. Personally, I'm okay with the pace of the game, where it gives kind of a heavy feel. Since my characters have a lot of armor, I expect heavy feeling controls.

Anyway, to let everyone know, I'm starting the CAG night at 8pm EST. Details are in the CAG KZ2 Clan & Night thread. Looking to play for at least 2.5 hours hours tonight. You must be a clan member or a friend of a CAG to get in (you will be prompted to enter a password, which is shaqfu).

uh if u go into a warehouse u dont see yellow and pink boxes everywhere?

everything in the game isnt gray the dirt is dirt color the concrete is concrete color.

this isnt okami.

whats realistic then?
its based in an blown up warzone city. i go to downtown and theyre the same colors.

I would have enjoyed CoD4 more if they actually continued supporting it. Hopefully this game will get many more maps for a couple of years so it doesn't just die within six months when the next big game comes out.

There's no denying I felt it was great, but I was a bit upset that after the variety pack, it just went dead on support. No rumble ever added, no trophy support (not adding trophies was ok, rumble was a tad inexcusable when even Resistance added it), and so on. Some of its online issues with invites, friends not appearing online, party not reconnecting, and lack of host migration (not the biggest issue, but annoying at times) made me no longer want to host the CAG nights for it and neither did most people (just became too much of a hassle instead of fun. And I was quite upset to hear most of those same issues carried onto WaW, but I dunno if they were ever fixed yet with some patches). That's why I decided just to give up on it. I believe KZ2 should at least get good support for a year in DLC (or 1.5 years), and maybe up to two years fixing online issues.

well, If you hate the game I don't see much use posting.
I think the game is pretty solid thusfar, and I think discussing some of the weak point isn't so bad (or perhaps praying for a solution behind it or whether it's necessary)

One thing I really wish (that for some obscure reason many games do not have...) is a custom mapping option for buttons.

I really wish I could put zoom as a toggle on the L2 and cover/crouch on the R3... That simple :)

I don't see why people think the controls are so bad. Do people really find putting the middle finger on L2 and the index finger on L1 that hard? Seriously? Just because you have small hands doesn't make it bad. That's your mother and fathers fault. Bad genetics.

I think fat fingers would be more of a problem, small hands would complain about the original xbox's duke controller.

thats how i play madden.. so its already pretty natural!

btw gonna pick this up in 30 mins at best buy :)
This should of been the default.
I can see why people prefer to play this way, but I find it easier to just click in and out of zoom. Shooting from the hip is pretty accurate, so I just zoom for really long ranges.
Alt 2 + zoom hold on = $ in the bank
There needs to be an option with Alt 2's controls except for L2 and R3 are swapped.

That or let me map my own buttons.

There is just something about the aiming in this game that is off, but it is still pretty fun.

I haven't hopped online, I just played the first level and a bot match, and I Wanted to know, is there a way to play ONLY bodycount online?

damn they got all the environmental effects right in this game.
It's a real shame the control feels like a car that oversteers too much... kind of like firing a tank canon. I'm finding the shotgun to be the most difficult to use because of it.
