Killzone 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info

I really wanna play Killzone 2

The UK PS3 bundle is really tempting me (might sell my Wii). I also wanna play MGS4 and Heavy Rain!
There's no date for when the European demo is out.
Its been confirmed by EuroGamer that the Uk demo is hitting the UK PSN store
this thursday, Feb 5th. Its time US users raid the UK store just like they did when the Uncharted US demo was released. Lets just hope the demo aint region locked(ala Uncharted BUT highly unlikely :bouncy:)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/euro-killzone-2-demo-on-thursday

Sony has said that the European Killzone 2 playable demo will be made available through the PlayStation Store this Thursday, 5th February.
The demo consists of the first two sections of Corinth River, which is the first proper level of the game, so you'll finally get to run through the beach landing and warehouse sequence that's formed the basis of so many previews.
There's also a tutorial - the same one that features in the main game.
Ahahahahahahahaha! I canceled my G$ preorder Fri., but I just received an email from them with a Demo code. Tree'D
I've done this a few times, but cancelled after receiving the code. it's no mistake.
Every game should of had custom soundtracks, just like the X360 did when it launched... Sony!!!
Actually, it's a bit more complicated than some may think. The reason games have custom soundtracks on 360 is because a developer doesn't have to do anything. The 360 OS automatically takes a custom soundtrack, removes the original game music, and replaces it with the custom music. Unfortunately, Sony cannot implement custom soundtracks the same way because MS owns a software patent on it. Originally to implement custom soundtracks on PS3 (before the updated 2.4 firmware and development kits), some available memory had to be sacrificed to implement them (and they developer had to do all the dirty work for it). Now, all a developer has to write code to access the custom soundtrack feature (does not use any OS memory to utilize it, since it's figured in the firmware OS). Since there's still work to implement it on the developer's end, that's why not every game has it (along with some developers already paying a lot to license music).

Anyway, the demo timing is perfect, since I'll be done with my busy days. Really can't wait for it. :)

There might be spoilers in that GT review.
In fact, there are, so I would avoid. They give it a 9.2 overall.
9.8 for presentation. :)

Interesting Q&A!

Will there be an option to customize your controls as you want them?

There are 6 pre-sets. Not so much full customization. Stick with the standard one. Works best.

Will the demo on the 5th be Single Player only?

It will be SP, yes.

What difficulties will be available in the demo?

Normal only.

Is there an unlockable difficulty?

Yes, the top one, Elite.

Is the Killzone 2 going to be region-locked?

No. You can choose to play against people in your region or worldwide.

Editor’s Note - If you were wondering, the disc itself is not region locked either.

Any news on a release date for Asian territories, or will we have to import it like KZ Liberation?

We’re working on Asian versions, they will be released later. More on that soon.

Editor’s Note - According to SCEJ’s site, it will be releasing April 23rd over there.

Any news on an official Collector’s Edition?

There will be no Collector’s Edition. Only a steel tin one for Europe. Finding out more.

Will there be a patch for split screen co-operative play?

No.

Why wasn’t split screen included with the game?

It is not as simple as you might think as you would need to render everything twice on one screen. It was considered, but we decided to spend our time and resources on single player and online multiplayer primarily.

How many weapons are there in the game?

Including emplaced, I think 21 for Campaign. Edit: 22, forgot the knife.

Throughout your testing did you reach a balance between classes and their weapons? I hate playing a game where 1 weapon can really be the only thing you need to use to win.

I think we managed that, yes. We have spent a good year and a half playing online internally followed by some Sony internal Alpha testing which resulted in a heck of a lot of balancing, followed by three phases of the beta. So I think we’ve pretty much nailed it. If something does come up post-release, we should be able to patch it up though.

Can you take in-game screenshots, upload videos, use custom music etc?

Multiplayer will let you play music from the XMB, no screenshot ability etc on release, might patch it in.

Did Rico ever found out what a ‘Shakespeare’ is?

Yes, but now he is confused about what to do with an Einstein. Drink it or throw it.

If balancing issues occur, will Guerilla support the game with patches?

Ah yes. Depends on the severity of course and whether it is considered a real issue or not. Some people might just get pissed off about catching rockets with their faces and start moaning “boohoo the rockets kill me all the time” when in fact they suck a bit. We’ll watch the game carefully post release.

If glitches and/or cheats start to surface in KZ2, then how extensive of support can we expect from Guerilla to not only fix the problems, but deal with those who abuse them?

There will also be online moderation and banning taking place if the user agreement is broken.

Can you confirm that players would be able to get kicked by a vote system?

Yes.

Will Killzone 2 be push to talk or open talk?

Open.

Will there be an option to mute a player?

Yes.

Is it possible to rank up by just playing against bots?

No, need to play real people.

How have you balanced the bots, did you tweak them to make it fairer?

We have 3 difficulty settings for bots.

Can nearby enemies hear you on proximity chat, similar to SOCOM?

Sure.

Will you be able to manually select the room/server you want to join in multiplayer (like in KZL) or will that be done by automatic search only?

We have both.

Are the servers dedicated or peer to peer?

Dedicated.

How do you find the rooms that your friends are in?

We have a Join Friend option.

What are the kinds of options you can customize to your likings in a Private match? Like running speed, jump height?

Not so much the basic mechanics, but more options such as limiting weapons, the points scored, timings of the modes and so on.

Is there going to be an option for me to disable certain badges and badge combinations as well as some weapons in custom games?

Yes!

Will there be an option for a dying soldier to prevent himself from being revived? Sort of like a “do not revive” button while you’re laying on the ground?

1. Headshots ensure you cannot be revived.
2. Players injured after becoming mortally wounded, cannot be revived, i.e., they are finished off.
3. You can always tell a medic over comms to let you die.
4. The player is very briefly invurneable after being revived.

Yeah it was an issue in the beta. Someone actually did this to our Online Designer Eric Boltjes to prove a point. Kept shooting and reviving him. He had to have it fixed after that.

Will Killzone 2 Multiplayer have a Prestige mode like CoD4?

No we don’t have prestige mode. What we have is the ranks as well as the medals and ribbons that the player needs to earn.

Could you tell us how many points we will have to get to be a General? In the beta it was 2800, I figured you guys raised the bar, eh?

Still 2800

Can you arrange SQUADS before entering the map?

You can set up your squads in the pre-game lobby yes.

Can respawns be turned off in online multiplayer?

There is no respawn settings for games at present, but I have seen this come up a few times. It is something we will have to think about. Not sure how complicated it would be to add.

Can someone make their own clan tournament? or are tournaments controlled by Guerilla Games?

Can do both.

How does each round of the tournament work? Is there a time in which all the games must be completed by? Is it up to the clans when to decide to play each other?

You can set up the time between the rounds yourself. Can make a round a night, or multiple rounds in one day. The person setting up the tournament decides this.

In a clan, how many ranks are there?

Leader, Officer and Member.

How many of each rank can you have?

One leader, as many officers as you want, a total of 64 clan members.

What are the main differences between the leader and officers?

Officers cannot kick members, create more officers and are optional. They can however accept challenges or make their own and invite players to the clan.

How many valor points does your clan start out with, and if you manage to lose them is there any way to gain some back?

Starts out with 100. Playing tournaments can get you can valor.

With features does the clan system have, beside the valour points?

You get your own clan page where you can post news, challenge rivals and manage your clan in-game and also plenty of functionality on the official Killzone site that links back into the game.

Nice. Thanks!

When they say no offline coops, does that mean they're patching it for online coop? I remember they announced a while back that they will indeed patch it first day, but I have not heard anything since then about any type of coops.

lol bitter much? This game is above and beyond any other console atm. Even if it aint like the CG video, it comes really close and even surpass certain aspects like character models, audio, weapons. Even Multiplayer looks amazing unlike most online games that need grafx toned down to work over a network. Plus dedicted servers!! 360 fans wish they had a game like this top notch quality.

I was looking forward to playing that game in the E3 2005 trailer, and they tried to pass that off as actual gameplay. So yeah, I was annoyed that it was a fraud. If what you're seeing in the game now is enough for you that's great, but it's been almost four years since that trailer and I think it sucks that we're not there yet.

Nobody expected that trailer to be an accurate representation of the game. You can always continue to wait, what they have now is great and I can't wait. Your lost if you can't be satisfied.

Naw I didnt mean you I meant the website that put that together. Its actually cool that you posted it here for all CAGs to see. There is much deeper information available on the official KZ2 PS forums if anyone is interested.
There would be a link here but apparently people dont like them

The game has been getting a lot of good reviews, so I'm excited that the gameplay will match the great graphics. The only part that sucks is that I'm gonna have to wait a while to get it, cause I'm flat broke right now, haha.

Are you real?

64 is the clan size limit, that's all I know.

I like that all the clan stuff can be taken care of in game. scheduling clan battles is in game, and the game makes a private lobby by itself at whatever time you schedule, sounds easy.
So what is the plan for the clan(s)?
You know what the damn plan is! R2 had its time, but it's time to kick ass and take names in Killzone 2!

I'mma have to balance SFIV, KZ2, and RE5 all out O_O

The plan for the clan is for me to lead us to the promise land, to reign supreme in all matches and leave no trace memories of past glories, or something like that.

I believe Mana will be leading the casual clan and Smog and some other guy will lead the more hardcore clan. I believe Mana made a post but I'm too lazy to look it up.
Who's Smog?

I believe we should have a deathmatch for clan leader. Last man standing takes the reigns
SmogItUp is smiggity's PSN ID.

I was just hoping we could get 5 or so of us CAGs together and get in on some Tournaments, Get our "Valor Points" up or whatever it was. The In-game clan options are so plentiful that we need some serious players to step up so we can take advantage of it.

I'm in for this game probably at full retail (got hype?). Coupled with my best best $5 rewards and whatever SonyCard reward points I have banked, I'm hoping to bring it home for less than $20 out of pocket. :D (It's good to be a cheapassgamer). RE5 can wait around in my goozex queue since I have over 5000 points to spend and basically nothing else coming out I want except for these two games for the first half of the yaer.

I'm in for the casual clan. I expect to have more time on my hands than I want in about 10 days. :whistle2:(

Nice to see reviews coming out so early. I think a lot of games suffer at launch because of reviews not coming out early enough (unless, of course, the game is terrible and they do it on purpose).

This is the 1st high-profile title I can recall in recent memory having them posted an entire month before release. Best of all, they all seem to be glowing. This game has gone from not really on my radar to being a very strong consideration.
Are you real?
I know when a lot of people are hyped up about a game it's unpopular not to be as hyped up as they are.
I know when a lot of people are hyped up about a game it's unpopular not to be as hyped up as they are.
Yes, that's what this is about, not your silly pent up rage about the CG trailer from nearly four years ago.
Yes, that's what this is about, not your silly pent up rage about the CG trailer from nearly four years ago.
It's about expectations, not rage. When even good reviews of the game say, "It doesn't innovate" it's obvious a lot of the hype is about the graphics. And if we're going to talk about the graphics it's fair to point out that a really old trailer for the game has better graphics than it does now. It's not my fault that trailer set the bar pretty high.

Anyway, like I said, if it's enough of a jump for you, enjoy. You don't need to get pissed at me.

Well, I wouldn't let some out of proportion "expectations" keep me from enjoying a good game, but to each their own.

I see what you're getting at, but I never said I won't play the game. I just won't be buying it on day 1 at full price, or pretending it's a bigger deal than it really is.
