Kinect - Gen. Info & Discussion
yeah the little in game "guide" annoyed me just in the demo couldn't imagine having to deal with him in a full game
You can turn his voice off and switch subtitles on, and then he's fine. One reason Kinectimals is likely to go cheap everywhere is it's being phased out in favor of the Kinectimals with Bears version, which includes the recent 1200 Points DLC.

I personally thought kinectimals was really horrible, they tried way to hard, everything felt forced. Ill have some new kinect impressions up soon, im hoping my copies of dance central 2 will show up early next week. Might get some Kinect Sports 2 also. I wish we could import Kinect Sports 1 events into 2, would be nice to not have to swap discs.

Yeh, some say fantastic pet was better. And I too wish we could import ks 1 into ks2

I accidentally ordered Kinect Sports Season 2 from newegg - forgotten pre-order. I was going to cancel it. Not that I don't want the game, but I was going to wait a bit. Oh well. At least it was only $37.99 shipped. Anyone else getting it?

No games look fun on it.

Dance Central 2 BOMBED in the UK. Not even in the top 40 in its release week, while Just Dance 3 for kinect is. We'll see if people are even interested in it in the US, otherwise harmonix is in bad shape. Ive mentioned before that DC is more sim then fun dance game, where Just Dance 3 you get a much broader range of songs, and support for 4 players at once. Not looking good for DC as a series anyway if the UK launchis anything to look at.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it before but Leedmees is fun if you like puzzle games like Lemmings. It's not exactly a clone of it though as the gameplay differs but the concept is similar, you basically guide the creatures to safety and have to watch out for obstacles.

The biggest issue I had with it was the multiplayer though as it didn't feel very polished in terms of detection when you threw two people into the picture as it can get intense and with two people, it's much easier to mess up. Aside from that, had a good time, here's a positive review here if anyone's interested. Also, if the demo seemed too easy, the full game is much more challenging.

Another fun game is Gunstringer, only played the demo though.

Heh, I actually hated Leedmees and gave it this negative review. I think the ideas are perfectly fun, but the controls are so erratic and busted (single player or co-op) that it makes the game 10 times harder than it should be. Glad somebody else had fun with it though, and I definitely agree about Gunstringer.

I grabbed both Kinect Sports Season 2 and Dance Central 2 tonight at my Best Buy's midnight release of Battlefield. Too bad I have to wait til tomorrow to play either of them since my husband is asleep and the downstairs neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate the noise. Got my preorder bonuses as well...400 MS points for DC2, 2 boy/girl avatar costumes for Kinect Sports. Always looking for fun games for the Kinect.

Kinect Sports S2 metacritic. Still not 4 reviews on the day of release.

They seemed to have pick slower s ports and appeal to kids or hobbyists, rather than make a better party game. Maybe that will pay off, little Timmy likes baseball buy him this game with baseball in it.

I have DC2 in the mail. DC2, skyrim, dark souls, gears3, and Batman:AC are the games I was looking forward to most this winter. DC2 is pretty much the anti dark souls lol.

I demoed KS2 at the big thing at the Mall of America and I can tell you that it is much fun. The golf will be great with friends (much better than Wii golf), the baseball was pretty interesting, skiing is meh and I didn't get to try any others. For $38 shipped I'd be all over that.

I see that we're not big fans of Kinectimals here, but...

Kinectimals sneaks onto Wp7

The WP7 port is very nice and connects with the 360 version. You can transfer 360 kitties to WP7 or send the WP7's 5 new kitties to the 360. It also has easy Achievements and costs just $2.99.

I'm looking forward to trying KS2 tonight, though I won't really have much time tonight. More tomorrow and especially Friday. My kids will get the first crack at it, before I get home tonight, so I'll see what they think of it. Needless to say, they were quite pleased with my accidental pre-order. LOL. :)

The game comes with a 1 month gold sub (which is weird since it's no good for Family Gold accounts - you can't add them to it), as well as 3 avatar bits. Football outfit both mens and womens, giant finger and something else I'm forgetting. Or maybe that's all of it. That also kind of sucks because avatar stuff like that only applies to one account. So what am I going to do now? Let my kids fight for them? :) Maybe I'll just sell 'em on ebay....

Nice, although I don't really care about Kinectimals, I do like the cross platform mentality. Microsoft needs to do more of this on their WP7.

Apparently that Kinectimals for WP7 was released prematurely and has been pulled. Supposed to be out Nov. 2nd. Not that I have a WP7, but there you go.

I played KS2 for a while tonight. It's fun. I've played baseball, darts (including ballolon pop mini-game), football and skiing (and the mini-game). So far I like darts the best actually. I just wish it had more versions of the game than just 501. Hopefully they add more darts games in an update or as DLC. Darts will probably be fun to play online, but I haven't tried that yet. Football is fun, but very simple. Baseball batting is fun, but the pitching/fielding part is kind of lame. Especially the catching which is ludicrously easy - it's sort of the equivalent of volleyball in that you have to reach to a spot to catch the ball, but you have so much time to do that that it's silly. Maybe the higher difficulty opponents also make the catching tougher. I don't know yet. I didn't try golf yet, but my 10 year old liked that best. I also haven't tried tennis yet.

I like the challenges feature. You can send a challenge to a friend and then they get to try to beat your score when they are next on. This is nice because you can't always play online with friends live.

I'm happy with it, but am not sure it's quite as good as the original. It's worth the $38 I paid for it and so far my kids like it too, and that's a win.

I didn't have any difficulty with batting. It was fun. I do think that some of these games aren't as well suited to Kinect as the games in KS1. Football has no defense play, for example. instead you just watch a summary of how the computer player does. You have to wonder if they didn't originally have some sort of defense play in the game, but decided to pull it for whatever reason. Still I think it's a worthy pickup, but perhaps wait for a price drop. I got it for $38, and that seems like a good price for it.

Oh, and for what the game is, I think 4 quarters of football is too long. They should have shortened it to 2 quarters.

If anybody wants to play a round of darts online, just send me an invite if you see me playing KS2!

My Just Dance Kids 2 Review....
My kids ( 7,5,4 ) Really enjoyed playing this game. The songs were excellent and had a nice variety of kids Songs. Some songs were slow, while others can wear down a kid pretty fast. ( That’s what we want right! ) Even my 9 month old enjoyed watching the screen and her sisters dancing to the music
The backgrounds were fun and well suited for the song being play.
The kids follow along with other kids on screen.
Now for the cons:
The two player works good, but ever time the song is over, you select a new song, and the second player needs to add them self again by waving there hands up. Normally no big deal but…. ( see below )
The game has a hard time reading people ( kids ) at times. You move your hand to hit start and even with a steady hand it moves off the button, that is if it even see’s your hand at all. Sometimes when a second player tries to join the game at the menu, it does not read them, no matter how hard they wave at it. I can see the kids getting frustrated with the menu.
My light is not perfect. But pretty good.
It’s a really fun kids game with a few issue that are fixable.
I give it a 4/5…. Clean up the readability issue and it’s a 5/5 for kids that enjoy music and dancing.

I didn't even know that there was a Just Dance Kids 2 for Kinect. Definitely have to consider picking that up for my kids (and me!) Hopefully we won't have the issues you had with it recognizing them, though, or if we do hopefully they can fix it.

Has anybody with Kinect tried the head tracking in Forza 4? Does it work well? I was hoping to be able to rent it, but it's 2 discs, so they won't get it at Redbox.

Played a bunch more Kinect Sports 2 tonight and I'm really liking it. I love darts and playing online is great. I won my first two matches online. Also I like tennis quite a bit and the mini game for it is fun too. The skiing mini game is good too. So, yes, the game is worth picking up.

Seconded. I bit on it in the buy 2 get 1 at amazon, and played every game. I like it equally as much as KS1. Must have for Kinect owners.

Anyone get Yourshape 2012???

Getting pretty good Amazon reviews. Seems like they redid the interface, which is great since the original one was terrible.

I'm hoping somewhere has it for

On the fence for a long time. Might go for this on BF. For $100, I thought it might be worth a try. What games are a must have that I should target for BF?

Honestly, there arent any MUST have games that are kinect exclusives, but there are some good kinect games. Kinect Sports 1 is good, Fruit Ninja is good, Gunstringer isnt bad. There is nothing stand out and killer app, especially after having owned it for a year, that i can recommend hands down as a good reason to own the kinect. I still like it tho.

The "killer app", the best games, for the Kinect is Dance Central 1&2, believe it or not. Child of Eden is really cool with the Kinect but it also has controller support. I have Dance Central but I got it on sale and I'm not the biggest dance enthusiast.

Yes, Dance Central 2 really is the game to get. Plus Gunstringer (which comes with Fruit Ninja Kinect), Kinect Sports 1 and 2, and Child of Eden.

I used to think that Dance Central was a killer app, but after extensive play of 1 and some of 2, i have to say it is a really good dance simulator but not much of a fun game. Especially at parties, its just not very fun for groups. Kinect Sports 1 is great fun, but 2 is quite the disappointment. And child of eden is cool but id rather play it with a controller. Truth be told, kinect sold/sells a lot on its premise, like the wii, but i dont think there is anything in particular i could point to and say it is definitely worth the purchase just to have that experience. Don't get me wrong, i got my kinect at msrp on launch day and dont regret it at all, but im into tech stuff so just trying out the new experiences was enough for me, but may not be for everyone.

Gotta disagree with you there. Dance Central 2 is much better at parties than the first game was thanks to the well-implemented co-op and dance battles. Keep it on Easy and most people who play will have a good time.

I think they are trying to make the dash the app people want to use it with as I have the new update and you can use kinect to navigate fully now. Also they integrated more voice stuff with bing search.

The "must haves" are Kinect Sports, Dance Central and Gunstringer. So far, I've spent the most time with Adventures and Sports, but for the hardcore crowd, Gunstringer is great.

I just beat Gunstringer tonight and, I gotta say, it's a damn good game. Not just a good Kinect game, a good game period. Funny, great gameplay, endearing character, and great controls. Probably the best deal-related pick up of the year (got it for $20 at best buy a couple weeks ago).
I was kind of ticked that I bought Fruit Ninja when it came out on XBLA and then later they decided to bundle that with Gunstringer. Psshh
