As of Feb 6th, to earn SYWR bonuses a member has to have a valid email address on their profile and opted in before purchasing an item with a bonus offer. This has been communicated to members through SYWR emails and in the circular along with new signage indicating to receive bonus offers they have to have a valid email address on file and opted in to receive email. Opting in to receive SYWR bonus offers is not too bad:
.

1. Log in to your account online
2. Click "My offers"
3. Click "More about me"
4. Scroll down to contact preferences
5. Click the boxes to receive email from (I suggest all for tomorrow). I'll post if you just have to accept Kmart in the future.

He was wrong in saying that you couldn't use your phone number + PIN to redeem your points. He then tried to argue about an entire different point: whether you need your card or not to redeem points, which we all know that you can redeem your points with your card or card number, OR via your phone number or email + PIN. Then when someone points out that he was contradicting himself, he says he wasn't. Again, he was wrong.

I was pointing out that he was wrong about whether he contradicted himself and that he was wrong about not being able to redeem your points without your card or card number. You know, considering that statement was right below the quote of him saying that he didn't contradict himself and how you need your card or card number to redeem points.

It really doesn't matter at this point. Multiple people have pointed out that he was wrong. As far as anyone should be concerned, the argument is over.

My point still stands: Please do not spread misinformation in this thread, especially when it contradicts directly with what the SYWR site says word for word. He was doing that, I was simply correcting him.

He's not wrong because it's different in every store. I'm pretty sure the TOS of the SYWR program requires the use of the card to redeem any points...even though a lot of stores (mine included) allow you to just use your number and PIN.

PC Titles - Anyone who was planning on getting Dragon Age 2 or Crysis 2 for PC at launch I'm afraid Kmart will not be carrying those at launch for the promotion. I'm sorry but we had some internal politics here that prevented us from bringing those in for their street dates (Josh would probably phrase it differently).

Check checking if every K-Mart will have the Pokemon DSi bundles.
Was gonna go the route of Amazon but id rather get Pokemon White for free.

Will they have them on Sunday or will they not sell them until Tuesday?

Josh said the new AD said available on sunday, so stores should be selling it then. Bundles should be there too.

Oh my gosh, all from me asking about a freakin PIN? Next time, I'll stay ignorant and keep the thread about 50 posts shorter. #-o

So how about those Kmart Games!

Hey, all I'm trying to do is not have people post incorrect things. It's already bad enough when things outside our control go bad. It's even worse when things go bad because someone was told something incorrect.

I like the Pokemon deal from Kmart. It's like every other deal: if you have credit or rewards somewhere, they're likely going to be the best option out-of-pocket wise for you. For a lot of us with Kmart SYWR points, they win on the deal.
He's in Arizona, not Vegas. And it always costs extra.
Not if you play your cards right.

I wish it was next week. DA2 looks like it'll be very entertaining. It's just too bad EA had to just say no to give Kmart the option to have signature editions. The rest of the month looks exciting too.

Amazon = $70 for two games gets you $20 credit towards future purchases.
This relies on the fact that you have $70 to drop, and don't mind waiting for it to ship. Amazon is offering (EDIT) free Amazon Prime Shipping with their deal, but you will need to go to the effort of canceling Prime after shipment of the games or get billed $75ish. It is a great deal knowing that you will be making future Amazon purchases anyhow.

BestBuy = $70 for two games get you 20 rewards points equivalent to $20 in additional spending.
Again, you have to shell out $70 up front, with the intent of recouping your investment after you accrue enough points to get your next coupon. Total delayed gratification here, as you still need to continue to spend money for other items at BB as well before you have a return on your investment.

Kmart = $52.49 for 2 games.
The Kmart deal is cheaper up front, with no long term gain, or effort to recoup your investment.

I am leaning towards Kmart for lower out of pocket, as I still need to pay some bills while dropping $$ on two DS games for my kids. It might not be the most cost effective deal, but it is the cheapest.

Because of the B1G1 50% off? Pfffft. That was announced last week.

Kmart is $52.49 + tax. But you are right, for people who aren't buying anything else anytime soon Kmart saves you, but for people who preorder stuff from Amazon anyway the Amazon deal is great.

That's not at all what I meant. Of course I was referring to the fact that the 3DS is getting closer and closer to sweet release each day. It's getting harder and harder to resist with each passing minute. I feel like I'm going to explode. With anticipation...of course.

At least it's still KMART related. If you hadn't started this fight I'm sure there just would've been another one ready to replace it about something stupid. ;)

P.S.: I bet you guys thought I was gone.

This is really quite distressing. I only want DA2 on PC (I played the original on PC and don't feel like playing this kind of game with a controller) and was looking forward to this promotion as my way of finally getting an excellent deal on a PSN card. (Yes, before anyone comments questioning this, it's been said many times that mixing the systems for game and card would be valid.) Now I'm left high and dry. I'm not a fan of shooters, so the other upcoming similar promotions don't appeal.

How long of a delay are we talking here, or is this a gentle way of saying that because of things beyond your control stocking these for PC may simply never happen? If it is just going to be a delay, is there any chance of reviving the point card offer when DA2 does arrive? Otherwise, it looks like I may end up waiting a year and a half for the complete edition after all.

With a 10% tax, BB is $77 and Kmart is $57.73. Less than a dollar more for direct savings. The only one that's cheaper would be Amazon's deal, but like you said, you have to wait for it to ship. Unlike BB's reward certs, SYWR points aren't taxed. So let's say you have the $52.49 in SYWR points, you have no taxes due. In this case, it'd only be a $2.49 difference in between Amazon's price. Better for those that want it day one and have points.

RZ cert. aren't taxed either. It takes the direct amount off before tax.

Here's the thing though, RZ cert are unstable. Meaning people have a hard time getting them after they pre-order the game. W/ Halo Reach I had to call in like 3 times to get my pre-order points.

In some locations, SYWR points are taxed. For example here in Florida unless things have changed in the last 6 weeks, they're treated like cash (same as a GC, really)- meaning that once the total rings up, your points are applied to the post-tax total.

So for me, a $34.99 game ends up being $37.44. Then any gift cards or SYWR points are deducted from the $37.44 total. This may differ in other areas. The coupons that were used were taken off the pre-tax amount. So if instead of $15 in SYWR points you had a $15 coupon, a $34.99 game would end up being $21.39 ($34.99 - $15, + tax on $19.99), netting a savings of $16.05- an extra $1.05 over using $15 in SYWR points).

So for example, with the B&W deal, here's my math for Kmart:

$34.99 + 0.5 * (34.99) + tax = $52.49 + tax (7%) = $56.16
I have $15.73 in SYWR points, so the total would then be:
$56.16 - $15.73 = $40.43

For Amazon, my total would be:
$34.99 + $34.99 = $69.98 + $20 credit for later.

Strange. I just got an email saying my points expire 3/31. I just received these points no longer than 2 months ago and they're meant to be valid for a year. Hmmm...
Now you guys are doing fancy math on these deals? Good lord.
You're on cheapassgamer.com and you don't do the math to figure exactly what the best price is for you? :)

I was actually speaking from my own experience. Which is apparently a varied one.

BB's RZ certs have always been taxed. I assumed they were seen as coupons rather than certificates.

As for Kmart, their SYWR points used to be taxed, but something changed in the system, as when I purchased MvC3 anything paid with SYWR points wasn't taxed. I had assumed the entire system had changed.

Ah well. Maybe it's a California thing.

Same here.

This is really fricking weird. It doesn't really matter to me since I'm going to be using them long before then, but it's definitely misinformation somewhere along the line.

Do either of you know the reason for this change? I'm wondering if it's an error of some sort, since it seems not everyone here has received a similar notice. If it's not a mistake, you guys should at least have a good reason for receiving the notice.

I haven't the foggiest idea. Points are good for a year, and I know that the first time I ever used my Kmart SYWR card was October 8, 2010 (I remember that day pretty well. It was an awesome day, even with the trip to Kmart). So none of my points are about to expire anyway.

Besides, I just used up my points balance January 23. All my points have been earned in the last 6 weeks.

Strange that internal politics (whatever that entailed, exactly) would keep the PC titles delayed. I guess it's lucky I'm still a console gamer foremost, but if I'd transitioned my gaming to my PC (like I probably should), I'd be less than thrilled.

I received the same email. I double checked the SYWR FAQs and it still says points are valid for a year. All my points are from November on, so ...

I'll be looking forward to having the promotions back in Josh's total control.

I also got that email tonight, which is bizarre since the only points I have are the ones from Marvel vs Capcom. Not that it really matters, though, as I plan to use them towards the 3DS.

Silly question:

Did all of you who are getting the email buy Marvel vs Capcom? It might be something that was done to combat the multiplying points error that occurred with it, but it would be quite unfair to do that to everyone who bought the game blind of whether they bought it before or after the points were suspended.

So far I haven't received this mysterious email and I did NOT buy Marvel vs Capcom. Now I just opened my personal account when I went and bought Mass Effect 2 on the first day of it's sale, so if I get this email there is seriously an error (or evil policy change) in effect.

Say it isn't so! I was so looking forward to getting DA2 for the PC. I have a couple of questions:

1. will DA2 be available on release date 3/8 in NJ stores or should i go there a day or two after.

2. as stated i'm in NJ, whats the situation with the cards? will i loose out on it, or do i just send Josh an email for the cards?

Thanks.
Did all of you who are getting the email buy Marvel vs Capcom?
No. I received the email and I did not buy MvC3 from KMart. I've only been a SYWR member since the release of Epic Mickey, so any points I've received started as recently as then. Like everyone else, I've no indication why this would be.
received the same email ... a little bit concerned ...
Put me down as another person who got the points expiring email.

Actually, as a bit of additional info, none of my points were special bonuses. Since I didn't get the DQVI points and had to request a gift card instead, all the points that I have on my account are the basic points from spending XX amount of dollars on a handful of purchases. (Most of them games, of course.) Whatever triggered this probably isn't connected to any of the gaming rewards we've had.

Picked up Vanquish for $28 in Vernon, CT.

Honestly wanted to wait to the $20 price point or less but for some reason I don't see it being around that price for long plus March is going to be a slow month for me (I want Top Spin 4 and Crysis 2 dirt cheap, and the wife will be hogging Dragon Age 2 all month lol so no chance of me touching it.)

Anyways not regretting it. I'd put it in my top 10 games of 2010 - tied with Blur atm after finishing the first Act on Hard.

So then, does this mean we're sticking with evil policy change?

And I just now realized something about my account. Only yesterday did I actually confirm my account online by linking my membership card to my KMART ID that I set up last year for the 50% off coupon they no longer give out. I used the same email in both cases but that may be why I haven't got the email. Or maybe I'll just get the email shortly.

I never bothered to confirm it because so far I haven't needed to. I haven't bought any of these deals since Mass Effect 2, and that was just a straight discount.

***EDIT***
P.S.: I don't want to lose my $0.81 so soon!

Got that e-mail too but am I the only one who got this: "Redeem them and get 5x points".

Should be on top of the e-mail.

Bonus points+$3? Not bad.

But anyways, I am part of the "concerned about losing my points" group. Hope Josh can clear this latest issue up.

I wouldn't mind $4 off of Pokemon. How does it say to redeem this bonus?

Is it automatically applied at checkout or do you need to do something special?
