If you can do midnight releases for Nintendo games .

I would love to hit a midnight release for skyward sword if there is a coupon.

Josh I remember you mentiong that Infamous had a MAP of 90 days. Can you give any insight on how other retailer are selling the CE cheaper than MSRP within the 90 day limit?

I cannot actually. All I can comment on is that by breaking MAP on a title, all publisher support of that title (MDF - Merchandise Development Funds) can be put in jeopardy.

Sometimes if the need is large enough though a retailer will break MAP for an inventory issue.

Thank you. I always thought a MAP was mandatory across the board that is why I was a bit dumbfounded seeing other retailers selling it cheaper.

It's illegal for a manufacturer to set pricing actually to a retailer, they can however withhold the funding necessary to make marketing a title profitable.

I haven't been following the thread too closely lately and I tried to go back a couple pages but didn't see anything.
There is not going to be a deal or anything on the Oblivion 5th Year Anniversary Edition, right?

I remember people talking about a deal when it got announced.

SHC,

Is there any chance you'll give me an answer on the question I asked prior(about the supposedly clearanced PSP's and PSP bundles)?

Are they on a continuing clearance cycle where they will go cheaper after a certain amount of time or are those prices static?

Moreover, as to the currently $19.97 clearance titles:)ps3:Oblivion GOTY, etc, etc), will they go to $9.97 at some point or have they already?

I didn't wanna be one of the people I complain about who re-asks questions, but I didn't see a response and I thought maybe my prior post got lost with how quickly this thread moves at times.

Any answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We'll be fixing the HW pricing issue soon, the cadence on the SW will progress in time though. Probably this Fall.

So infamous was a very poor seller for gamestop then. At least the hero edition. And with those tiny, overstocked stores, inventory space is at a premium. They'd rather profit only $10 than $30 on those large box hero editions and get them out the door, just like the giant killzone 3 CE that nobody cared about either.

Edit: nevermind I see the price bombed on Amazon too. Not so much of a "taking up space" thing as a "holy shit nobody cares about this franchise get these expensive CEs out the door NOW" thing.

So it was an error that the PSP's are coming up cheaper than MSRP? I'm sorry but I don't follow the abbreviations at all(cept for HW, which is hardware). What exactly is SW?

Moreover, how universal across the board are the prices at Sears for clearance now that that is back on track? I'm seeing some folks saying they got PS2 systems for $20, while at my closest store they're coming up $99.99(MSRP).

Sorry for all of the questions, but I wanted to get everything out of the way in one shot while I have your attention. Thanks.

SW = software; games

Yep, the hardware pricing was not intended. SW stands for games basically.

Sears clearance can actually vary quite dramatically store to store.

My sears stores never do any clearance. I've stopped even looking there. They have piles and piles of old software and hardware.

Actually I think I saw them clearance out a PSP case or something once, lol.

Actually before it ground to a halt completely during your companies retooling of the clearance cycle/drops it was 100% universal. I was able to go from here to Syracuse(NY), down to Harrisburg(PA) and all over the Tri-State(NY/NJ/PA) area and the prices were ALWAYS 100% the same across all the stores.

But since clearance pricing has started back up I guess it's been left up to managers at individual stores to determine the pricing for each store.

That's the thing though, some of those items ARE probably clearanced but just not marked. That's been the only way I've ever been able to find any real deals on games during these clearance cycles.

If stuff is marked, then the soccer moms and other shnooks come in and loot the places dry at 5% off.

That's why I got so annoyed when these clearance cycles went away for a while, since Kmart/Sears were my two go-to stores for cheap games that I wanted to try but wouldn't dare pay MSRP for. Every other store around here is really good at marking stuff with placards and stickers to denote the cheaper prices and it's all gone before 20% off.

I miss the old bin that Sears used to have. I remember getting a few games for like $2.00 out of there - mostly in the PS2 era. Though even up until a couple years ago they still had the bin, My last major finds were hot Hot Shots Golf PS3 for $1.97, Boy and His Blob (Wii). for $2.97. I can see why they stopped doing the bins though, because in my experience prices were NEVER marked, and obviously it was a completely disorganized mess. Though it was kind of fun as a shopper hunting for bargains.

At some point they decided to get rid of the "bin", and along with it seems like they got rid of clearance prices. In fairness, my Sears doesn't have nearly as many old games as they used to, so I guess they just don't need to do the massive clarances anymore...

When it's disorganized and nothing is marked is the best, since then you can likely find a ton of great stuff for stupid cheap. I remember hitting up a BB store in Syracuse area like 4 years ago and they had TONS of old game guides on the shelves, all of which came up a penny.

Stores that look like they never put anything on sale/clearance are the best ones you can hope for.;)
Will there be a deal on oblivion 5th anniversary this week or in the future? I've asked a couple times now and still no answer.
No deal. Seeing as it's limited to only 200k, I doubt there will be one in the future. Just hoping to find a copy tomorrow as I have a $20 coupon.

so what do you just have the employees scan stuff until something comes up clearance?

the employees probably buy everything at mine.

Print out a list of UPCs and stand at a price checking machine for a while

Actually I've been paying attention to the Sears clearance thread as of late since there's a bunch of stuff there for cheap now(including folks finding PS2 systems for $19.97:shock:).

I also use Google(click on shopping) to see if my local stores may or may not have something in stock so I don't waste the gas going there to find it's not in stock anymore.

It's fairly accurate, since it does list the silver PS2 systems that others have found for $20 each for $99.99, which is what they ring up in store(unfortunately).
Yeah the PS2 were 29.99 at mine.
Do you remember what they showed up as on Google shopping if you checked there first, by any chance?

It does seem like that Google shopping thing isn't 100% accurate, but it's pretty close. It's only been off on one thing thus far for me(SDvR 2010 for PS3 showing OOS when they had a copy).

But I'm still wondering if the $99.99 price at the further Sears for the PS2's means they sold out of theirs because they were cheaper.

I also think with Collector's Editions, the ones that are $80 are too cheaply made and most people don't want to shell out the money for the ones that are $100 and above. They also tend to make way too many of the things. They are really only going to appeal to the hardcore fan of that particular franchise. I know a lot of people like Infamous (me being one of them), but does it really have as many hardcore fans as Fallout or Mass Effect? I know that particular CE was an easy pass for me.

First I just checked out Sears without checking Google, the clerk who works electronics Is pretty cool with me so I asked if they had any PS2 for $19.99. He said they had 3 but sold out for $29.99. Being curious I checked google shopping and came up as having one in stock for $99.99 Hope any of that helps.

I guess if they sell out before Google updates it'll just stay the MSRP price forever on there then.

I wish Sears had the type of scanners like Target, where you could enter in the product numbers on them, since I haven't yet bought a printer to print up UPC's with to check stuff myself.:whistle2:#

Yeah. That's why it was great when they had that bin. I was always finding things in there. Although the downside is the games really started to get beat up after spending awhile in the bin (shrinkwrap starts disintegrating and even the game cases themselves start looking beatup - so it almost felt like buying used games). They do still have a fair PS2 and Wii games that they have on the shelf which probably originated out of clearance, but there's literally NOTHING decent that's left. I wouldn't care if they were $.05 I wouldn't want it. With PS3 and 360 games it seems like they are trying to do a better job, I guess they just don't' know what to do with the leftoever PS2 and Wii shovelware that even clearance won't move. I do keep checking hoping for some massive price cut on current gen titles (and if I waited I might have got Ratchet and Clank for $5.97, instead of the $12.97 I grabbed it for a few weeks ago).

I do have a KMART near me that's got huge potential to be a clearance mecca. Since Josh's deals have got me going in the store I'm really paying attention to what they have in stock, and as far as the old games go NOTHING moves. They have just about every greatest hit/platinum hit imaginable, but it's almost always the ORIGINAL label from 2 or 3 years ago. I feel like I must be the only person that even shops at this store...I know they sell some new games but they just have a crazy amount of games that are 2-5 years old. Make some of them under $5 already LOL.

If you're going to have one midnight launch this year then it have to be mw3.

Calm down people. Cod hater or not, every1 knows it's going to sell millions.

Black ops deal last year was great but some people skipped it cause they wanted it at midnight. If kmart have mw3 with $25 coupon and midnight launch then man ... Kmart freaking got this.

Just my opinion if u can only have one midnight thing

I have to agree, although I would love to have a midnight release for Skyward Sword as well, I don't think we have gotten that far yet. I would love to host a MW3 launch at my store, and I would hope if we do end up doing that that we will be able to have some kind of tournament or something like some Walmarts do. We will see though, as I'm not sure other kmart employees would be so eager

SHC Question:

I'm pretty sure you said you're carrying Oblivion 5th anniversary, but is it common? I can either cancel my Amazon order or wait and hope to find it at Kmart.

I "want" to say they will be very common but my own stores only got 2-3 of each system with even the busiest stores only getting 4 or 5 at most. So, it may be limited, but I don't anticipate a huge demand for it.

Also anyone have a good link to bring up on my iphone for the NCAA deal? Other than this thread, I'm sure I can make it work though...

So that makes it de facto enforcement rather than legal enforcement. That's a clever way to adhere to the letter of the law, but wouldn't retailers be displeased that they're pretty flagrantly violating the spirit of it? Or is it something that's a non-issue because of the give and take involved (i.e. giving up some pricing control for marketing help.)

Hannah Montana bundle at my kmart was both (1) priced the regular amount and (2) looked like an employee tried to see how many staples he could get into the box.

hey Josh quick question

Do you think kmart will eventually implement a store inventory checker sometime in the future? Not sure how hard it is to program that in but I think it would help a lot of people in general and not just for games.

I think there is some sort of a system for it already since kmart and Andrew can check which store have how much game left. Just give that to the people and it will be easier. Especially when proving them that they do have the game but are too lazy to get it from the back on launch date.

That's because they 'fixed the $90 pricing error' that folks were reporting on in another thread. Apparently they were not supposed to drop to that price.

In other words, no clearance hardware at Kmart.:whistle2:#

I'd honestly love to see Kmart start reporting prices to Google for their online product search or at least put an in-store stock checker that's somewhat accurate on their website. Since I've been using Google to check prices/availability for Sears clearance items I've noticed that EVERY listing for Kmart says 'call for availability' and NO price whatsoever.

Where are you getting your information from? I just purchased a Hannah montana bundle for $90.. an hour ago

Josh, quick question that you may not know the answer to just yet.

Want to pick up NCAA '12 and grab the $20 coupon, however, not a lot coming out in the next few months that I want. I would be willing to give Deus Ex a try for $39.99 though and grab another coupon at that time. So in short my question is, do you anticipate the Deus Ex coupon being valid all the way up to Gears 3? I know that normally coupons would expire at that time.

Thanks for the help, just trying to plan where I'm boarding and exiting the train!

We have internal systems that show a lot of proprietary information so that system is not accessible to the general public. However I believe about 600 stores actually do have a check online inv. function that I hope will roll out to more.

There is a lot of give and take for sure. In some countries though any MAP is illegal, I believe that is why Ubi has a firm no MAP policy.

That's great news! Been looking at all the deals from various B&M stores for the cluster fuck of games I want that's coming up in the fall and I just hate committing to something like the 5 games from BB, just in case something comes up and I don't have the $$ at the time.

Looks like I'm finally getting back onboard the train! CHOO! CHOO!

Thanks again Josh! :applause:
