I call BS.

If it didn't ring up correctly why the heck would you hand over your money? Somethings a little fishy with this story.
I've had alot of issues with PSN cards scanning at the store I go to (usually she has to try to scan like 4 or 5 cards before one activiates - because their register is all jacked up - sometimes it even freezes mid transaction).

I'm not sure it's even POSSIBLE for the computer to not activate the card, and to still charge you for it though. Doesn't that go hand in hand? She has to scan the card, and activate it, before the register charges you $20? So it does sound like BS. Like you said the obvious thing it to just walk away anyway... why pay if they tell you it didn't scan? :wall::bs:
"There are 34 software titles that will be from $10 – $20 off in this ad"

"Remember, this is just the teaser, make sure you check back on Friday to see the rest of the ad and the full details (coupon redemption periods, participating locations etc.)."

I read that as there will be more titles.
Realize this though--Josh will not leak the entire ad prior to start time.

But a user here posted the ad. And if I recall correctly... There are 34 titles in there.

Not arguing with you though because I always appreciated your posts, but that is my train of thought/logic. Anything more would just be a bonus to me. Either way Josh is getting my butt into one of his stores. Mission accomplished.

Yep, the ad was leaked here first. The teaser really does not apply here lol except for the $15 on $40 offer which does stack on the sale items which makes the ad really hot.

No limit per customer was set however it is one per transaction.

Will the 40$ promotion apply to points cards?
No Vita in the US until 2012 according to Kotaku  I actually dont care as this gives me less to worry about buying this year and makes it easier to wait until I get my work bonus or tax returns to see reactions and reviews of it before I bite.

Would have been nice if Sony got it out in time for the holidays though.
You know Im pretty happy it wont release here till 2012, that gives publishers more time to polish games, and to build a solid list of launch titles.

It is a slight break money wise too, but that first quarter is already starting to pile up with AAA titles as well. Personally i would have had to wait to buy one as Im already spending a good 700 on just gears 3 and my girlfriend is already pissed ill be spending so much that day. As well as 15 other games releasing from August on.

Wow, no limit is fantastic, will there be a waiting period on the coupons(Im sure there will, just want clarification), have so many things I need to grab.

Look at Josh, quickly back into our hearts. Shocked, shocked I say.

Looks like I'll be at Kmart buying something this week.

Forgive my ignorance, but how in the hell are you spending $700 on Gears 3? Is that for the LE Console and a few epic editions or what?

If I use my Zelda coupon to buy a PS3 controller today, can I come back on Sunday to match the ad? I really, really don't want to miss out on a $15 savings from a 1 day difference between when the coupon expires and when the sale starts.

Catherine sets a sales record for Atlas for opening week of over 200,000 units in NA. So how did Shadows of the Damned do over at Kmart? :p

Niche or not, I always knew it would sell. Oh well..
Thanks for clarification. Once again Deane comes to bat and crushes the ball.
It shall be scored as a Deane Ball.

It's now confirmed that Catherine sold 200,000+ copies first week, talk about a smash success! I know I'll be picking it up as soon as it hits $29.99, which is my absolute, highest price point that only the very best games can be honored with. Of course, I totally understand that Josh has difficulties with lack of support from Atlus due to lack of preorder systems, but knowing that he's got that in the works, I'm sure he's sad that he didn't get it all put in place soon enough to be able to get in on some Catherine action...

175,000 of those were probably pre-orders, which K-Mart will have the option for in the near future.

When I worked in customer service at Kroger (grocery store) it WAS possible for a person to be charged for a GC of some sort and it not activate. The cards don't activate until after you finalize the transaction, (and if you're doing your job correctly) you wouldn't finalize the transaction until after you've received payment from the customer (but that only applies to cash as a debit or credit card finalizes the transaction for you). A separate GC receipt printed (again, this is with our chain) that told the cashier whether the card activated appropriately or not. Sometimes it would activate instantly, other times it would say activates in 24-hours, and other times it would not activate. If it didn't activate we handled it at customer service by doing the transaction again (without the customer paying, obviously). If that didn't work then we just refunded them the money. The 'thing' that prevented a card from activating was usually the register wasn't connecting properly to the internet.

Catherine did great as expected both on preorders and non preorders. Lets not make new excuses now. But the thing is, and this is coming from someone who does this and know quite a few people who do the same, we are pretty much trained to order either from Amazon (aka Atlus official store) or gamestop when it comes to Atlus games due to Atlus mainly promoting them for their CE and preorder goodies.

Now if Josh can get a preorder thing rolling and get atlus advertise it in their faithful newsletter as a sponsored store, well things would probably be different then.

I'm not taking either side here, its just a thought and personal opinion.
I see now. Definitely, going to get Uncharted 2: GOTYE and COD: World at War (just for the zombie shooting.
World at War isn't a bad game in retrospect, but after playing each Treyarch CoD iteration, it might not be as good of a game, even if you haven't played it already.

Go watch some hentai instead! Just kidding.

You know, I'm a bit turned off by the whole demon-thing. But Catherine seems like such a weird game, I'm tempted (keeps calling out for Catherine...during sleep) to pick it up later.

Is KMart getting any Limited Editions of Battlefield 3, or sadly will I be forced to get it somewhere else to get the Expansion Pack for free?

Josh, a kind of strange question, but if Sears and KMart are owned by the same company, why is KMart's clearance so much more expensive than Sears clearance prices on the same games? I kind of wish I could get the sears clearance prices at the KMart here, since we don't have a sears :

I'm always confused about these sales numbers. Some sites report it as 200,000 actually sold to customers while others report it as Atlus shipping 200,000 copies to retailers. Obviously, 200,000 sold at the wholesale/distributor level doesn't translate into 200,000 sold to end users. Either way, I really wish Kmart would have this title in stores.

Also, I noticed something strange--according to the leaked ad, Medal of Honor is listed as being on sale for $19.99, but in the teaser it's listed at $14.99 on sale. Which one is correct? Does this mean the $19.99 games in the leaked ad are really $14.99? :???:

Medal of Honor is now $19.99 MSRP, so I'm guessing they made it 14.99 to make up for the MSRP change.
Apparently they run the companies seperately and Josh is spending most(if not all) of the budget he's allotted on trying to do sales on newer stuff.

I don't understand it either, since the old crud is just sitting there collecting dust and should be marked down aggressively to get it out the door and clear space in the case for newer stuff.
I guess that makes sense. I just keep checking back at my KMart looking for the lone copy of Radiant Dawn that's been there for months and hoping for 8.xx, but it's stayed at 20.

That's a game I'd pick up ASAP. I can't remember when exactly, but I think I bought a copy during the 60/120 promotion, or something that fit perfectly with whatever retail magicks Josh conjured at the time.

hey josh,

first, thx for all your hard work to bring us great gaming deals!

since 'catherine' did so well, wondering if kmart will carry 'shin megami tensei: persona 2 innocent sin'. any chance? gaming coupons also welcomed ;).

also wondering if there will be a deal for 'driver san francisco' (wii).

c'mon, show these other consoles some love!

I tried using my $15 coupon I got with Ocarina of Time on a XBLA point card and it wouldn't work D:

It goes bad this Saturday and I don't know why it didn't work, the assistant manager submitted a help ticket on it though.

Do coupons not work with these anymore, because I used to use my older coupons on these all the time back in the day.

Separate budgets and strategy. I am looking to crossover the .com experience though when we launch it.

There has been no change to the coupons, they should work without issue. However I have received close to twenty complaints over the past two weeks on this issue so I am looking into it for sure.

It all depends on the preorder system, we are testing it now actually.

For Driver....next gen for sure, but I'll see what I can do :)

I certainly hope the in-store Sears/Kmart deals start to pop up on their respective websites, since sometimes there's one thing or another I just can't find at a Sears or Kmart store that I really wanted(i.e. that $9.97 Sylvania netbook from Sears:bomb:).

By the way, did you happen to get my new email as of yet? I had to attach a copy of my digital receipt since I don't have a scanner to scan in the normal one.

I ask because I don't believe I'm headed back in the direction of the store that sold me the opened game with the disc missing two weeks ago tomorrow or anytime soon.

I'd really rather just another copy of the game if at all possible, but any resolution would be better than none. Thanks either way.
175,000 of those were probably pre-orders, which K-Mart will have the option for in the near future.
Heavy preorder but there is more going on with purchase decisions like this.

Let's say I would have bought 2500 units of Catherine hypothetically and sold through 50 percent in the first four weeks, all well and good. Then it hits it's base level sales of say 50 to 75 a week. When it comes time to receive price protection from Atlus on the remaining units, instead ofhaving another inbound release forn Atlus to use to pay the balance I wuld need to get cold hard cash. Even EA doesn't like to do that. No release is in a vacuum, pipeline is everything, especially for me since I do not have the turns of a Gamestop, Best Buy etc.

With a preorder system though it eliminates the sell through issue because I can send in the product almost one for one with demand and not have much left over.

I couldn't be happier for Atlus, it's a great title and deserved to sell well, I hope I have the tools to support future titles like it in then future.

The only problem I could see with a pre-order system is people cancelling on those pre-orders. I used to see people coming into GS all the time and cancelling 2-3 or more pre-orders that were either already past release date or a couple of days from release.

Some of those stores were still stuck with those titles for a long time after release as well.

So that's probably the only major flaw in allowing people who may be indecisive to pre-order.

hey josh, someone asked earlier but i was also wonderin. would psn/xbla cards count as software and qualify for the sywr buy $40 get a $15 coupon?

They attach trade-in bonuses to some games, and I know we all know people who (ab)use those for more credit and then cancel shortly afterward.

If K-Mart can work in an incentive for preordering, 1.5x points or something of the like, I don't think they would have to worry much. Without the trade-in bonuses, I don't think many people cancel that many preorders.

while i like this coupon deal, what was the verdict with the buy $120 and get $60 sale? Your version of a b2g1 free. Any chance for that to come back? I loved that sale.

I've had this issue twice in a month or so now. I have a $20 coupon that expired last month that i was never able to use as well as the OOT $15 coupon that expires this Saturday. Ive been extremely happy with the deals an never had a problem until recently. I can't help but to be a little bummed out about $35 of coupons I can't use though.

I agree with you to an extent. If they are having the game shipped and preorder, they cannot cancel after the game ships (although I suppose they could return the game unopened). I for one only preorder games I am 100% sure I will like. These games are usually sequels to games I love. For anything I'm even remotely on the fence on, I have no problem waiting to see reviews and what friends say about the game, then I can run to Kmart to get the game. I've avoided a lot of lemons this way, such as Brink. Overall the ability to preorder should help Josh out a lot, as it should eliminate those who go to the store to find they sold out after only getting four copies and those who like Collector's Editions should be able to get them. My only concern is getting the coupon system to work right on the preorders.

I won't let that happen bud, just shoot me a note with your trouble and I'll be able to help.

I was hoping for more on Friday (today) to be revealed. Seems all has been revealed here already. Going for at least one $15 coupon with $40 purchase.

I'm sure Josh has a metric you don't have: what % of preorders get cancelled. Any modeler worth his salt would build that into his calculations.

Does the $15 on $40 stack with the console coupon offers?

eg PS3 gets you $50 GC + $15 GC?

I know it was stated that they stack on sales, but just want to clarify with the coupons.

Thanks

A good means of assuring pre-orders don't get canceled is to allow people to apply their "coupon value" to an upcoming release title or offer an extra $5 value or something for doing so.

If you cancel the pre-order you lose the coupon value because it wasn't ever given to you as anything but value towards that next pre-order.

It sounds kind of harsh but I think as a bonus for comitting to buy again next time at kmart it would be a very good program.

Buy Starfox 3D - get $10 coupon value or $15 pre-order value on Super Mario 3D Land in November, or Rage in October, etc.

I would love this if it could all be stored on kmart's side (reliably, obviously) or on your SYWR card, and there were no coupons. Only problem would be redemption rates would probably be higher than with the coupons, and kmart's ever present challenges with getting new computer systems and programs working correctly.

I'm sad... The K Mart in my town is closing and there are barely any games. They don't have the weekly ads because of the liquidation sale, and no liquidation sale will accomplish what all these great deals K Mart has offered me with gaming coupons. I mourn. Here's to you guys, good luck, happy cheapassing.

Do coupons not work with these anymore, because I used to use my older coupons on these all the time back in the day.
For the record mine worked with no issues. Used my OoT coupon for a XBLA points card.
