Okay, now tell me that you are going to have another deal on PS3's like a week or so after that so I can use up $40 worth of other coupons and that one as well. :bouncy:
The very next week we will have a few recent release hot offers that you will be able to use your coupons. Stay tuned.
I want to clarify some confusion over the $60 gaming coupon promotion.

In order to generate the coupon, it is only valid on gaming software and PSN/XBLA card purchases over $60 before tax.

When it comes time to redeem your coupon, it can be redeemed on software, accessories, and hardware $60 or more before tax.

It's on like Donkey Kong.
That's what I'm saying... SYRW points are better... $60 gaming coupon can't buy a $59.99 game, but $60 SYRW points can. Besides, the points don't expire and no paper coupons to keep track. If I have to go back to the old way (marking calendar on gaming coupon expiration dates) then I'll only do it for the worthy promotions. Maybe I'm spoiled, but maybe I realized that managing paper coupons can be a pain...

As to the tax comment by Confoosious, I'm assuming his referring to the SYWR points? No taxes collected on purchases covered by SYWR points because whatever amount covered by the promotional points (or coupons) is not subjected to tax. You only pay the tax on whatever amount after coupons/discounts. Saying you "save" money by using SYWR points due to "no tax" is wrong... You're still paying sale taxes, regardless you use Gaming Coupons or SYWR points.

Bah, why I'm explaining this to people can't figure out why the $60 gaming coupon for $120 purchase is worse than B2G1...
Here is the honest to goodness truth.

I have a budget with SYWR offers. Knowing that I had to have a "bridge" until I could go back to coupons I did coupon esque' offers via SYWR's so as to not lose any of the momentum since January.

If I were to maintain using bonus offers on SYWR's now, having used so much of the budget, you would literally see $3 and $5 offers instead of $15 and $20 with coupons.

It was always just a temporary solution (as previously noted). Yes, it was better for many reasons. Without question though, it was never sustainable.

In terms of a buy 2 get 1 and it's value vs. 120 and 60. It all depends on a customer by customer basis. It could end up being a buy 2 get 3, or a buy 3 get 2 or any other combination. If you are looking for a direct comparison of getting 2 new releases and getting another $60 game, then yes it's value is more limited as a direct comparison but I would recommend looking at it a bit more holistically.
How about Bulletstorm 29.99?
Probably won't see that until the it's first price protection to $39.99.

that was always the idea i had. you stated before offering sywr's points was always a temp solution and it taking up alot of the budget. as long as the coupon train keeps going I'm sure no one will complain, well not to much anyways lol

and chances are he couldn't do a deal like this using SWYR points since they can be redeemed store wide. If you want a $60 game, you can just toss in a $5-$10 game from the bargin rack along with it to make the $60 coupon valid.. You still come out ahead compared to just getting $15-$20 deals from SWYR or even Amazon promo.
Josh,

Will KMarts have the Collectors Edition and Tournament Editions of Mortal Kombat?
No. This has been discussed before. Chance are if you don't have the Tournament edition preordered somewhere by now you will be SOL.

I know Gamestop and Amazon aren't taking anymore orders.

Okay, Josh. Question about this unique customer barcode on coupons. Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but with the speed of these threads, and four places to look now (This thread, two Facebook accounts, and the blog) it's not very easy to comb through... Anyways...

So each coupon now has a unique barcode which invalidates the coupon when used. Does the transaction factor into the creation of the barcode, or is it only the customer + offer that does? I should explain this in easier terms:

The April 17th deal. I had planned on making one transaction which included MK + Portal 2 (& Cards.) This would give me a $60 coupon.

I was going to make another transaction of Tomb Raider Trilogy, 3rd Birthday, and if you hopefully carry it, Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection, as well as whatever else I needed to make the $120. That would give me another $60 coupon.

I was going to make a third transaction of two copies of MK (picking up one copy for my friend and one for my cousin.) This would generate a third $60 coupon.

Will each $60 coupon have a different barcode because it's from different transactions? Or would they just see "Kain's SYWR Account + $60 offer" and spit out the same barcode on each $60 coupon? Meaning that once I used the first coupon, it would invalidate the other two?

the $60 coupon will only work 1 per account. you would have to use different accounts to get more then 1 coupon.

Tempted to pick up Portal 2+Tiger Woods (need to decide between ps3 and wii)+Points card...then use the $60 coupon on God of War 3+Heavy Rain+maybe a Points Card...
Everyone should stop complaining about not having the SYWR... The purpose of Josh's deals is to make money. He can't be making money if SYWR is killing his budget. I'm not going to complain one bit especially since now until September/October is going to be the huge dry spell for deals.
Well, that is terribly disappointing. I guess I will get Portal 2 from Amazon and just get MK + Tomb Raider + one of the PSP games for my one and only $60 coupon. After I told him I couldn't pick up his copy of my MK, my friend just said he'll pick up his and my cousin's copy at GameStop (which is closer to his house than K-Mart) since he doesn't want to go through the "trouble" of dealing with a reward card. :S

This type of limitation really should be dealt with for the future. Instead of me spending $420 there that week, I will now only be spending $130.
Thanks for the input fanboy now stfu and let the grown ups speak.
I didn't find anything disagreeable or fanboyish in his post. It's true, before Josh clarified with actual numbers for examples of what we would have to expect were we to continue with SYWR promos, most people were ignoring the fact that coupons offer the flexibility of more than twice the rewards we're seeing on the new coupons. The convenience of SYWR is clear, but when given the choice of convenience over amazing deals, that makes for an entirely different conversation.

This sort of limitation is due largely because of the amount of fraud/exploits used previously. I don't see them really changing it for the most part unfortunately.
This type of limitation really should be dealt with for the future.
The way he specified that this promo would be limited to one coupon, I got the impression that it's specific to this promotion alone since it's not attached to a single game but, essentially, everything in the gaming department.

I'm sure there are plenty of ways to fix this limitation, they just have to focus on finding it. Like the great Marty McFly once said, "If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything."

For example, the system already has the ability to generate a custom barcode based on the Customer ID and Offer, correct? Well, why not add the transaction ID in there as well? Every time you make a purchase at K-Mart, you already get a unique Receipt #. Using that to also create the coupon's bar code would make each coupon have a different code and no way of duplicating.

As GBAStar said, you're SOL on the Tournament Edition. However, StockBoy posted earlier today that they would be carrying the Kollector's Edition.

Yes but they also don't want people walking around with a ton of $60 coupons in a case like this. Yes it costs in the short term of people who would spend $400 on games for the coupons, but at the same time each coupon they use cuts into that extra profit. I'm sure that is also part of their thinking. For normal gaming coupons I wouldn't be surprised if they had a limit of 2-3 per account as they did with people buying Marvel vs Capcom 3.
Hey SHC folks, can you give me/us the low down on the Nyko Powerpak+ that's getting all the rave reviews for extended 3DS battery life? I can't seem to find it in a store anywhere. I called 2 Kmarts but no dice. :(
Did not work for me either... just got the $10 off coupon... on top of that... no one was in electronics when I got there... After about 15 minutes an employee finally showed up... I think that marked the last time I shop at K-Mart.... I like saving money... but I hate standing around waiting for someone to help me... nothing pisses me off more.

Actually, it's in their best interest if people ARE walking around with lots of coupons like this. Sad reality of the coupon business is that corporations are banking on the fact that the customer will forget to use the coupon before it expires.

That's how they can afford to make these offers. If they get you into the store to spend $120 and then you completely forget about spending the $60 coupon you had sitting in the bag, or your wallet, etc. then they make out.

It's just as easy to lose a $60 coupon as it is a $10 coupon, but to GET a $60 coupon in the first place, you're giving them a whole lot more than you are to get a $10 coupon. So by getting people in to spend more money for the chance to use a larger coupon, they are making more money in the long run.

Josh,

Any chance of God of War 3, Heavy Rain, and other recent $29.99 'new' msrps going on sale sometime soon?

So I'm new to KmartGamer and just made my first purchase this month, earning my first SYWR points. Today, I got an email that said I had points expiring and that I'd better use them up soon. I was in a panic: I had just earned those points, how do you expect me to use them so fast? Then I started to read the details and apparently it's a false alarm. The email says that out of 13,000 pts available, I have 0 pts expiring on 3/31. Lol.

Why didn't you go to the Customer Service desk and ask them to send someone back to Electronics? Nobody was in the Electronics section when I went to pick up Crysis 2 last week. So after a minute of looking around the area, I walked up to the Customer Service desk, asked them to send someone back to Electronics, and there was a guy waiting there for me when I got back there.

No offense intended, I've seen plenty of people complaining about lack of associates; Hell, I don't even think I've ever seen more than four associates working at the same time in my local K-Mart, but have we really become a society that can't speak up to get what we want? Do we really need store associates practically burying their faces in our crotches to help up like at GameStop? I think the Python boys said it best, "If you want to get anything done in this country, you've got to complain until you're blue in the mouth."

Starting Friday God of War 3 will be 19.99 at gamestop.

I for one am perfectly fine with gaming coupons. Just a few months ago, nothing like this existed. Amazon credits are a wash since I have to pay sales tax, so I'd rather have the deals at a local store. Keep at it Josh!
I like saving money... but I hate standing around waiting for someone to help me... nothing pisses me off more.
Be pro-active, don't just go back to electronics and stare at the case.

As soon as I walk in, I ask the person at customer service to have someone paged to Electronics, and 9 times out of 10, they have someone there waiting by the time I get back there.

Really not fair to expect a store to have someone sitting back in the electronics department when they are only needed once an hour if that.

Josh made that clear to us AFTER we made our posts.
Irony.
I have respect and admiration for what josh does here. Josh advocates for all us CAGers and really engages in a dialogue w/ us and that is why I support K-mart and bolster shopping there. I however will not mindlessly/spinelessly agree w/ anything and everything someone I like says.

That idiot was being a fanboy by saying "hey don't complain about deals, just take'em b/c it's Josh and we should never have a problem w/ what he does.

To reiterate, the problem some of us CAGers have w/ this deal is that we can't just walk in and buy 2 games and get 1 free. We have to spend more than $120 + tax to get the coupon and most likely buy something else w/ a game when redeeming it. The promotion gives a hint of a "stick & carrot" approach that does not sit well w/ savvy shoppers.
Resolving the issue is as simple as making the requirement for the coupon to print to be at $119.98 instead of $120 and redeeming value to be at $59.99 instead of $60.
This would make the ability to obtain and spend the coupon much easier.

You hit the nail on the head. K-Mart isn't making this deal because they want to help gamers, they need to make money. By forcing you to buy something else they make a little extra, perhaps enough to make the deals *gasp* profitable...

Josh may be a nice guy, but K-Mart is a business and they won't make these coupons/deals for long if they aren't making any money! We have to take them for what they're worth, if we don't like the deal then we simply don't make the purchase.

Obviously it means Cheap Ass Gamerers.

I totally agree, I want 100% honest feedback and nothing else. Disagreeing with me should be common practice. I'm a big boy, I can take it :)

I try to provide the highest value possible to the consumer that I can within whatever framework or goal I have also been given by my company. It is a non stop balancing act. I have to make as much money for my company as possible while also ensuring that I provide as much value to the consumer as I possibly can.

This upcoming deal is just as much of a test as it is an offer. If I can prove the certain aspects of the promo true, other potential adaptations can be opened up.

Back in the day, I was never able to offer a coupon on software. I was able to test a $10 coupon on Final Fantasy 13 (and only on the PS3 version) and the rest is history.

The only thing that I disagree with is the stick/carrot thing as I have made the rules perfectly clear from the beginning and I even tried to help with it based on the bonus PSN/XBLA deal on the two titles that I would like to see pop the most.

It is definitely my hope that in future ads I can lower the buy total to 119, 179, 239, etc.

At the end of the day the deal was not meant to be a Amazon or TRU crusher, it was meant to be a compelling offer in the midst of what is out there.

I think the resulting feedback is mostly positive as people who are interested in Portal 2 and MK (if they also buy a points card) are receiving $70 in value for their purchase. Regardless of how it has to be redeemed, even say buying a $60 game + another cheapy item is still a lot of value.

Could the lever be pulled more, without question, it is my hope that we will be able to in the future.

Yes and no.

I make deals to help the gamer while also helping my company. Both motivations are 100% present.

That is the primary difference between me and everyone else and this statement is not a PR plug.

BOO HISS! But thanks for the answer.

STOCK BOY: I went to all 3 Des Moines-area stores and couldn't find a Collector's Edition copy of Tiger Woods 12 :ps3:. I'm gonna call around to some other Iowa stores tomorrow, but any chance you might know of any stores that have it in stock? Otherwise, if I can't get a Collector's with a $20 coupon then I'll have to wait for the regular edition to hit $34.99 to make up for having to spend the other $15 to get the extra collector's courses as DLC...

Actually, Josh, any plans to feature Tiger Woods 12 at $34.99 or less any time soon? :D
