Apparently I left my sunglasses at kmart because they called me when they figured out my number was etched in the bridge. Suffice it to say the member of management who called me wasn't aware of this deal and refused to make any kind of exception as it'd "risk his job".

If they weren't a expensive oakley set I'd write it off.

But now I HAVE to go back, without getting the games apparently.

/sigh

EDIT: Yep, picked my glasses up and was told the deal started Saturday :D

man i just noticed the digital reciepts that kmart has been emailing. they're great idea. i dont have to be so careful with receipts and coupons anymore. wish other places would do that as well.

AWESOME DEAL ! Paid off LA Noire with the 60$ coupons from the Portal 2, MK i bought. Also picked up Quantum Theory to coop a buddy.

Kmart is awesomesauce :)

deal went smoothly at ashland ave in chicago. picked up noire and bioshock 2 (and $20 coupon that i almost forgot but the cashier stopped me. lol) now to wait and use the coupon on 'Alice' next month

Well I went to Kmart Store 7486 in Lodi, CA and had to deal with bs from an older lady named Janice at the register that wouldn't let me use gaming coupons. I was going to picked up LA Noire + Orange Box (PS3) + Radiant Dawn with my $45 and $15 coupons.

At first she said I can't use them in the purchase. Then she bs'd that I can only use 1 for each item, then she bs'd that the item cost has to match the coupon price so I was out of luck. I tried to be diplomatic and teach her how to read the coupon. I also told her I've used it plenty of times and know the man in charge so I know wtf I'm talking about. She told me that I'm wrong and any store that let them be used are doing it wrong too. I told her to let me speak to her manager. She called the manager, asked on the phone if coupons can only be used once and then hung up the phone saying "I told you so"

I laughed, told her I'm done dealing with her and to bring her manager down to talk to. She got pissed...kept saying how coupons are meant to be used. I told her to get her manager or I'll find someone else to do it. She relented and called her manager, where she kept trying to point out the (1 per transaction) and telling the manager how it worked. I then pulled the manager aside, had him read the coupon, then he said to her to ring them up "If the system reads it then they work, if not then they can't do it". She argued, he rung it up, they worked and she got blood red. She shoved the items in a bag, tossed them to me, and almost forgot to give me the receipt + $20 coupon. She then gave them to me "here is another of these dumb coupons".

lol, as annoying as was, I did find it amusing to show the crazy women. Guess coupons raped her as a child or something.
Perhaps they were unaware of your apparent celebrity status and were unable to prep accordingly... :whistle2:s

I mean really dude, this isn't an issue of me being dense, I think it's you having really unreasonable expectations that an already amazing sale will be handed to you in such a way where you have to put out absolutely no effort as opposed to minimal effort. Even if it did take you 2 hours to get the deal, if you divide out the $40 worth of stuff by the 2 hours it took you to get it, your time according to Kmart was worth $20 an hour.

And no, our store wasn't particularly well organized (our store is very understaffed), but I'm more than happy to root around for a bit to find free games.
and I could eat gum I find under table. Sure it's gross and takes some work to get but IT'S FREE!!

It's not unreasonable to expect a retailer to not look like a flea market. I am not demanding personal service, I'm not asking for anything crazy, I understand it is Kmart but that doesn't mean everything get a pass because I saved a few bucks when other retailer are offering deals w/o the hassle.

But forget it, I'll just be the asshole to you. I don't care anymore

In this case you're wanting the Ritz while paying for a Holiday Inn

Everything went smoothly at my Kmart, as it always tends too.

I notice that Ghost Trick was in the display case of clearance games for $19.97. I'm thinking about going back and picking it up with my $15 coupon that expires soon.

I'm really not a big fan of employees acting like managers, when they're in no position of power (aside from over the customer).

It's pitiful that she dragged the situation to the point that she got that frustrated when she was wrong...It's also ridiculous that the manager didn't ask her to calm down, and to have a more open-mind when it comes to Kmart's registers.

I couldn't get any compatible game to come up as free at my store, and the cashier and manager refused to override =( but weirdly the coupon did print out..so i got half the deal. I sent u an e-mail to see if you can help me out Josh.

Went to my usual Kmart and LA Noir wasn't in the case. Asked the employee if they had any and he said they didn't receive any copies. Tried to buy the Witcher and he said the same thing about that.
Drove 30 minutes to the next kmart, they didn't have LA Noir in the case, but luckily they had some in the back...no such luck for the Witcher.

But still this was an amazing deal and I made sure to take advantage of it, though I almost broke down and went to gamestop.

Awww, I didn't get my free game but I think it's cause I checked out at jewelry and the girl didn't take my SWYR card until after she scanned everything.

FUUUU ahh damn Quantum Theory doesn't have co-op :( I'm going to head back and see if i can exchange for another game. Does anyone have a list on what Kmart has for 19.99?
Deal worked fine for me.

The $19.99 selection was borderline insulting. Whatever game you had your heart set on getting, plan for it most definitely not being there.

Ended up finding Alan Wake (which I already own) but everything else was Barbie this, Backbreaker that.

I really wanted Metro 2033 or Resonance of Fate.
Final Boss,
I remember from a previous conversation that you usually shop at the palmer, ma store and i don't know if this will help but the holyoke, ma store had a few copies of metro 2033 last week stiill in the glass case. Maybe you could return Alan Wake in holyoke and get metro 2033?

Went to the store in New Lenox, IL for the deal. The store is a little on the shady side, but it went off without a hitch. They had plenty of copies of LA Noire, and a great selection of twenty dollar games too. Picked up Noire and Alpha Protocol (marked as $59.99) and used my $45 and $15 gaming coupons. The cashier laughed as he handed me my new $20 coupon and one penny.

Theres a list from the OP if you scroll down

Got the deal without a hitch this time. :D

I snagged LA Noire & Naughty Bear for my free game.

My buddy got Noire & Dantes Inferno for $45 (he had a $15 coupon to use).

If been asked sorry, but will there be a deal for Alice: Madness Returns? I am debating on if I want this game, and IF Josh works his magic!

Yeah, I just tried this with my local Kmart, in Easton, PA, and they claimed it was an online only deal, despite it being in-store. And this was after claiming there was no such deal, to which my wife and I had to make them ring the game and our membership up for them to realize there is indeed a coupon. They refused the additional free game thing though. They lost my business on this one.
and I could eat gum I find under table. Sure it's gross and takes some work to get but IT'S FREE!!
Ignoring the silliness of comparing a free video game to chewed up gum...

If you drove somewhere specifically for the great, free, gum under the table deal, then you came to the used gum website to complain you had to actually pick out and scrape your own gum off the table and its a horrible hassle because your time is valuable, I'm guessing people would roll eyes at you there too.

It's not unreasonable to expect a retailer to not look like a flea market. I am not demanding personal service, I'm not asking for anything crazy, I understand it is Kmart but that doesn't mean everything get a pass because I saved a few bucks when other retailer are offering deals w/o the hassle.

Dude, it's Kmart. They don't specialize in games, that's not their only product, and the people who who work there aren't specialists. Their selection won't be that of Gamestop or Best Buy, but then again, neither are the prices. Josh has turned it from a place nobody would ever think of to shop, to a place where most of us check out first. It takes time to build reputations and stock, and as that happens employee knowledge goes up and these deals run more and more smoothly.

Truth be told, having been to maybe half a dozen Kmarts looking for deals, I don't find them to be less organized than your average Best Buy or Gamestop, the employee knowledge about the same (except when you run into the occasional gaming enthusiast), but the customer service at Kmart especially on the corporate level is on a whole new level of excellence.

But forget it, I'll just be the asshole to you. I don't care anymore

Asshole, no. Finding silly things to whine about, yes.
Hey guys i got La noir and the free game just fine. However, before leaving i found a 19.99 game that i wanted much more then the one i got that was buried away and was furious at myself. Do you think it is possible to swap them if i haven't opened the one i have yet? Thanks for your help.
You should be able to exchange this no problem. Get Josh to answer you directly but I see no reason why you couldn't go in there and do this. The receipt should reflect that it was a 19.xx game discounted down to 0. So they should be able to do an exchange on a 19.xx game. You might have to pay a few pennies difference but would hope you would see this as negligible. If the game you bought were 19.97 and the game you want is 19.99. Just take in a nickel or something with you when you go to cover this.

To those of you who were able to use the $45 and $15 coupon and got a penny back I can assure you that it wasn't not intended to work that way. And in the future you should not expect to be able to use a $20 coupon on a game priced at $19.99. But happy fun that it worked for you this time. Makes a really sweet deal out of an already awesome deal.

Picked up LAN and Blacksite Area 51 without a problem and got the $20 coupon.

Just an observation from the last couple of deals now that coupons are here to stay. Is there any reason why the coupons now print after the Dish Network both times I had to remind the sales associate that a coupon printed out after the Dish Network add?

This is something that should be in an unofficial OP cause it's talked about all the time:

Just ring up both games. Let the register do the work. If the register doesn't, (and I'm talking all the way through the process and you had them scan your SYWR card), then either say "nope, don't want it" or finalize the purchase and email josh for the difference.

Don't leave it up to the knowledge of the employee or manager.

Hey guys, I'm new to this stuff so sorry if this is a dumb question, but if I do the LA Noire deal, will I be able to keep the goodies if I return the game the next day or will they not allow me to return it at all? Thanks.

Picked up LAN and Zelda Twilight Princess - Nintendo Select. I had to go back tonight, the morning crew was CLUELESS. The night guys had their act together.

Well that first suggestion is essentially exactly what I did. The register would not ring it up proper, so I returned the game and got my cash. Then I went to Wal-Mart and just picked it up there instead.

What you're suggesting is considered fraud. You have to return all parts of an offer if you're going to return it. If you don't take the coupon and game back when you return it, the store has every right to deny you the return or to deduct any offers off the amount they return to you (so you would get back $20).

Forgot to mention the employee working electronics, his name was John, was fantastic. I told him about the deal and he asked me what it was exactly so he would know. Great customer service from him. No issues with employees arguing if a deal is legit or not at my store. Just a timely stocking issue. :D

Glad I have some coupons at my disposal for Alice, my GS pre-order is getting moved to something else next time I am in there. :D

what was the free game? there was a select group that didn't work today, but which should work tomorrow.

As a matter of fact, the nintendo selects were among them, which is why it's surprising zaxxon got TP. Guess they rebooted their registers for the evening shift?

You cant use coupons printed out on normal paper from my understanding.

Also, definitely having some issues with this I heard. Maybe the free games have to be clearance titles only? Like ending in .97 and not .99 games?

Just came back from Kmart store #9376 where none of the employees knew about the deal. Needless to say the deal wasn't posted and the one employee I asked told me another customer had just left asking the same thing and the deal was only online. Of course I knew it wasn't, but I didn't argue I'll just have to try another store tomorrow.

That isn't the case. Stockboy said earlier today that some UPCs to $20 games were missed and will be updated tomorrow. They have to be manually entered and with how many $20 games there, it isn't shocking to find a few missed. ;)

Thats what i thought thanks for the help. I asked Josh on his Facebook for confirmation and hopefully he agrees.

Had the morning off checked out my local Kmarts to find they were poorly stocked with limited selection. The first two of them had LAN but all the >19.99 games I already had or were not interested in. Finally hit up Big Kmart today found a copy of EA Sports: MMA only to realize no LAN in sight doh! An employee noticed me looking befuddled, helped me out and managed to find one in the storeroom. Amazing deal on LA Noire thanks for the post! :applause:

Went to Kmart in on Katella in Anaheim, CA after work today. The guy said that they sold a lot today, but there was still plenty left in stock. Picked it up the PS3 edition with Front Mission: Evolved and everything worked as it should. Awesome deal. Thanks Josh, keep up the great work and I'll keep coming back.

Such an unbalanced system Kmart has. Some stores, like mine in Zanesville, Ohio; seemed to be prepared and on top of their stuff with these types of deals. Others, Just either had untrained or uncaring people who didn't have a clue.

I used to work at one of the two Kmarts in my city. I made sure everyone in electronics, (I was the electronics manager), stayed up to date with trends and promotions. It's been over a year since I left, and they seem to still be on top of things. Sadly, not all Kmarts are "in the know", and most times you get a middle aged woman with no clue about technology running the electronics dept.

I had some pet peeves during my time there, and tried to pass along my ideas, but it always seemed to come down to a "no" answer because of cost. Sorry, if you're going to compete, you gotta stay up to date. For new release promos, they seem to have the best deals, but when those deals are hindered by unknowing or uncaring people, lack of informing them, or games not being put out, it kind of defeats the point.

The other thing I've noticed is that despite having the best new release deals on games, (most times), their older stock of games seems to stay overpriced too long. They always seem to be the last retailer to lower prices. (Although, sometimes they surprise me with their game clearance, assuming the store updates the price tags on time). An example is Call of Duty 2, (not Modern Warfare 2, I'm talking the launch game COD 2), is still $29.99 at KMart.

They also seem to overstock Wii games. I think their corporate office should have someone following gaming trends a bit more carefully, when it comes to stocking these stores. Christmas time is good for an abundance of Wii titles, because parents will grab up the cheapy $19.99 bundle packs as stocking stuffers. But the rest of the year, they waste shelf space.

If Kmart really wanted to be a contender in gaming outside of new release promos, they should yank the Music CD section, (who buys CDs any more?), and do that aisle with a giant selection of titles. Stock all systems, and keep a few copies of each, kind of like FYE does with movies. Also, put cards with names and UPC stickers on them behind each title. This helps keep things organized and Kmart could check stock in the back and even go as far as ordering the out of stock games for a customer. And please, give the poor Kmart employees the ability to search for an item by title!

I'm not saying go all out and be Gamestop, but try a bit harder. Most of these changes wouldn't be too hard to implement, and the payoff would make it worth the cost. I hate buying my games at other brick and mortar stores, and online is only worth it because of the ability to shop around while sitting on my butt.

To those who read all of this, thanks for the time of listening to my rant. If any Kmart execs are reading, please take this to heart! I used to have so many ideas for improving the store I used to work at when I worked there.

This really should be in bright red letters on the front page.

DO NOT DISCUSS DEALS WITH EMPLOYEES. DEALS WILL APPLY AUTOMATICALLY AT CHECKOUT. IF FOR SOME REASON THEY DO NOT THE EMPLOYEES WILL BE UNABLE TO HELP YOU ANYWAY.

It's sad that this is true, but it is. Just buy the game and a $20 game, one will show up free and the cashier will either not notice or go "oh neat'. Employees should know, but even if they don't it makes no difference.

Ah thanks, I hadnt really followed the thread since the morning, I just was relaying a friends experience (couldnt get Ghost Trick free) and my thoughts.

Picked up clearance Band Hero on PS3. $70 isn't bad. Don't care about the songs, but will be picking up Beatles Rock Band and Metallica Guitar Hero to play with this. I haven't had a guitar hero since 3 on Wii, so I am not sick of these yet.

Discuss it in the store! Point to the blog! Maybe get a manager over! Try and get things done!
