LEGO Deals 3

One of the main benefits of adding Friends/Princesses to Dimensions would be an overall increase in female characters. Dimensions currently has Wonder Woman, the Wicked Witch and is Wild Style. My daughter, and probably many girls, prefer to be female characters and the lack of them means she is always Wonder Woman, or occasionally Wild Style. There should be more options.

Nya, Harley Quinn. Unikitty and Eris?

Still pretty lopsided. I think Jurassic World and Doctor Who could've easily had a female figure added. Simpsons would probably be another voiceless character. I don't think Bttf and LotR had prominent female characters, but I'm not too familiar with those.

LOTR has no female characters at all. I remember when The Hobbit movies made up female characters just to solve that problem and the fanBOYS were bitching.

There's Eowyn, Arwen, and Galadriel in the original trilogy. Only three out of the hundreds, I know, but they could be included.

The Hobbit trilogy had none so they made up Tauriel and included Galadriel.

Speaking of girl themed Legos, I miss the Paradisa subtheme. That shit could go with boy city themed sets. I don't like the Friends theme since the characters are different shapes and sizes than the standard minifigs.

Barnes and Noble has some older Marvel, City and SW sets on clearance at 50% off. You have to look on the bottom of the box where they place their own barcode sticker to know what's on clearance. Selection varies by store. They also carry minifigures now.
Today and tomorrow TRU has select Nexo Knight and City sets on sale at 20% off

I hit my closest BN store last night--they had a few things half off: Swamp Police Starter Set, Ronin REX Ninjago set (I bought one... deciding whether or not to keep it), Ninjago Epic Dragon, and one other Ninjago set that I don't recall right now.

Which Marvel set have people seen on sale at BN stores?

Edgewood, right? Might head over there and check it out.

I only saw Ninjago sets at Barnes and Noble.

They had the DB-X, which was slightly tempting, but I decided I didn't need it.  Also had the Epic Dragon, some smaller dragon, some fliers, and some smaller sets.

They also had a Battle for Ninjago City, which was also tempting.  But I already have one and I spent less than the half off $130.

They actually had a fair number of Lego sets, but they were all Ninjago and nothing I really wanted/needed.  No Marvel or DC on sale at all.

I was far more tempted by the Batwoman statues.

Went to the TRU minibuild yesterday and got Cogsworth, got it home and he is missing his arms. I had some Rewards and gift cards so I also picked up Black Panther Pursuit, Crossbones Hazard Heist and Gotham City Cycle Chase

I thought it was supposed to be cogsworth. We built lumiere at the store we went to

That sounds nothing like TRU! They are normally very organized and on the ball and hahahahaha I can't even finish that.

What you said was TRU in a nutshell. Last time I worked there (I worked there a few Christmases, they couldn't even figure out what day i was supposed to be in.

GG, regarding your playboy lot. I saw this post from slowdive21 on the yard sale thread:

Playboy pre 1965 are usually "the good ones". You can sell issues with specific celebs in them for more. Haven't checked for a while, but chyna, bai ling, vanna white, madonna, Pam Anderson, etc were usually "key" issues. If they do not have the centerfolds in them and they are 80s or newer, dump them in a lot.

I know you meant, "dump them in a lot" on ebay. But also, just take a few and throw them in an abandoned lot or in the woods. Give someone the gift of magical, "found in the woods" porn.

So we have talked about Lepin before, has anyone here bought some yet? LEGO is suing them in Chinese 'court' so they must be decent. Plus they are only a small fraction of the price. I know LEGO has to pay for licensing and box and set design, but I think Lepin just shows the world how much LEGO really is over charging us.

Also we talked about which credit card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, but I can't remember what someone replied.

And my $8 Doctor Who Level Pack came in. The box looked brand new but inside everything was already built in separate bags, and missing all the little 1x1 round pieces and 1x1 cones. A first with my over 30 orders at AWD.

I still want that Lepin Falcon but am waiting to read the reviews.

I didn't realize the Ant-Man set had spiked in price.  It's going to be as valuable as the Deadpool set until they come out with more sets for Ant-Man 2.

Yeah, I did. I bought their not-Cafe Corner. I was waiting until I put the whole thing together until I commented here, but I have been short on time. I missed the original and will never buy an original Cafe Corner at after market prices, and who knows if Lego will ever re-release it. It's about half built.

So far, it is dead on for Lego. Unlike Mega Blocks or Worst Lock, there are zero tolerance issues. Everything locks into place and everything is solid, being neither too tight nor too loose. There hasn't been a single brick issue. There appear to be no cut corners, no weird knock-off pieces. Everything looks like Lego, except for the word "LEGO" on the studs. Everything fits like Lego. I have been disappointed with Mega Bloks tolerance and quality in the past, Kre-o ranged from good to pathetic, and one purchase of Worst Lock put that on the "hell-no-never-again" list. Lepin has no such issues.

There are two "quality" issues, neither of which is major. First, some of the pieces have some residue. I hesitate to call it "dirt", but they're not 100% spotless like Lego. We're talking a few pieces out of 100, which can be cleaned. Then, there's the occasional mold flash. Even less. Maybe 1 out of 100. None of it shows in the final build.

That's pretty minor, though. I had the perception the bricks were lighter, but I weighed some bricks and they're not. That was all in my head.

The minifigures have to be build, including individual legs and arms.

I have also been building a legit Lego Brick Bank at the same time, to compare the bricks. It's really about the same. I didn't notice anything that really caught my attention when switching between the two models. The base plate for the not-Cafe Corner is thicker, for some reason.

There's really no appreciable difference, apart from the above. The not-Cafe Corner ran me around $50 shipped and it arrived in about two weeks.

This tells me Lego is massively overcharging us, especially now with even more inflated costs of sets.

It has kind of soured me on Lego-brand purchases. I still enjoy them, but I can't justify the cost. I always used to believe that their quality was part of the reason, but Lepin shows that's not really true. There could be roughly equal quality at 1/3 the price. Even with licensing, packaging, and extra profit margins, Lego could be half the cost it is now.

I am not wild about supporting counterfeit/knock-off goods. I think people should be paid for their work. I went with the Cafe Corner because Lego didn't "miss out" on a purchase.

That said, after sampling the goods, I do think Lego needs to be taken down a peg or two. If Lepin can produce goods of this quality at such vastly reduced prices, surely the worlds leading toy maker can cut consumers a break.

I wouldn't completely blame it on Lego itself but on people who resell and buy at these exuberant prices.  It used to be something kids would get and would end up being incomplete, damaged boxes/ no instructions, I think that's what drove the value for some of the older sets. Now it seems to be some sort of investment opportunity and Lego testing the waters on how much they can charge without people holding back there wallets.

Lego was going broke in early 2000's right? All of the sudden through the recession and through licensing deals they thrive. Most of us here have seen the clearance train pass through, it's almost a blessing getting something 50%-75% off. I can totally agree that the sets are severely overpriced for what they are but the same can be said about a car.

No, LEGO is my friend, they would never do that.
Sorry that was the reaction to like half of AFOLs. They don't seem to get that they are a business and not a friend. But yeah they are because they can. There are rumors of a CMF price increase, at least for Europe, to 4Euro or about $4.50.

But it's clear that LEGO knows Lepin is a threat otherwise they wouldn't bother suing. LEGO did release their half year sales numbers. Sale are down 2%, profit is up 10%. I mean really. But LEGO will just increasing their prices until they go to high, but clearly that isn't even close yet. I'm starting to think that is why Chima, Nexo and NinjaGo are all reasonably priced still, they have Cartoon Network that might make them keep prices down. Shows don't do well if you can't afford the toys.

Target online has the lego city van and caravan for $11.99. I don't remember how much this was during the sale a couple weeks ago but this looks like the regular online price. In store is still $19.99. The set has good reviews and it has little hot dogs!

I bought it during the sale for $12. Great set, was really looking forward to getting it. 250 pieces, two mini figures a dog, and three hot dogs (no buns). The car is a little different, has a weird stripe, but the caravan is very nice with not that many pieces, isn't huge but still roomy.

If anyone in DFW TX is interested, the Wal-Mart in The Colony on 121 & 423/Main had Star Wars Rogue One U-Wing sets out on shelves. Not sure how strict Wal-Mart is about street dates with things like Lego.

Anyone think there's a chance of another UCS TIE Fighter sale this Friday? Missed out last time it was aro7nd the $125 area...hoping Amazon or Walmart will host another discount on it...
