LEGO Star Wars to come out for GC?
The game has a listing under the coming soon section at ebgames.com. Could this be the sign of a gc release of the game?
I would wager yes. It just makes sense, and usually EB doesn't put stuff up unless they have some information that it's going to come out. It doesn't always come out in the end, but I think this is a safe bet. Definitely want this one.

This looks like it'll be the rumored ANH/ESB/ROTJ Lego Star Wars, not Episode 1, 2 and 3. It wouldn't suprise me, half the time was probably spent making the combat engine and whatnot in the first one, the levels would take probably about a month to make.. I could definately see it being 4, 5 and 6 instead of a release of 1, 2 and 3.

I haven't heard of a GC release of either the current or rumored new Lego Star Wars games. However, 3 things point to this being the original and not the rumored new one. First, it shows a release date of October 4th. The new Lego Star Wars is still in rumor stage (no official announcement yet) so it seems unlikely it would come out that soon, especially for GC. Secondly, there is no listing for a PS2 or Xbox version coming out then - no way they release the new one on the GC and not the others. Third, it is priced at $29.99 while the current games are still at $39.99, but will most likely hit a price drop then as well. I don't think they would release the new one at that price point because the original has been insanely popular and they can get away with selling the new one for $40.

In fact, what this points to is that both the current and rumored new one will come out on the Gamecube. They are probably porting the engine to the GC, releasing the GC version of the original game in October, then following up on all 3 consoles at the same time with the newer version (either by Christmas or in the Spring).

Though, as Scorch says, it wll be easy enough to make the new game with the engine already in existence - so they COULD come out with the new one in October. Still, it makes sense if they are going though the trouble of porting the engine to the GC, they would release the original one first. As for the sequel, I had commented on the PS2 Lego SW thread that this had to be as close as you could come to a sure money maker in video games. Those of us who have played through the original and know Episodes 4-6 well enough could design the levels in the sequel. I am surprised it has taken this long for any official announcement. The original has been near the top of the charts for months now.

For discussion of the game, see this thread:

For GC owners who don't have a PS2 or Xbox and thus might not know, this is a GREAT cooperative game. My 5 year-old son and I have had a blast playing it, and we haven't quite gotten all the hidden kit pieces yet.

I didnt know it was co op..

I sold my box with 360's upcoming release and I sold my 2nd PS2 a few years back. I am currently borrowing a PS2 but I might pick this game up for cube if the port turns out to be good.

How taxing is this game on the systems? I mean is it going to be somwhat hard for them to come up with a good port? Or are they going to half ass it and screw us cube owners?

I don't think it is too taxing - doesn't mean they won't screw up the GC port, but there's no excuse for it if they do. I mean, if the GC port of a game like Finding Nemo can be screwed up (apparently it has framerate issues the PS2 version doesn't have) then anything can be screwed up :D.

i never understood why this game did not come out fo gc in the first place...

its a perfect game for gc and im sure many kids would have wanted it

I've e-mailed a few media mailbags (including IGN) about this, but to no avail. It remains a great mystery. I do hope they don't mess it up.

If there was any doubt, this ought to settle it - I just got the newest Nintendo Power magazine. On the back is a Lego Star Wars ad, with a banner that says "Now on Nintendo Gamecube".

That is awesome, my nephew (5 yr old) loves this game and he only has a cube. I didnt see a point in buying him an XBOX but know i can get this game for him for his bday. Thanks for the news and the confirmations.

I'm actually considering trading in my PS2 copy and buying the GC one :D.

It's nice to finally get SOME sort of confirmation on this. The complete absence of press on this - even from Nintendo itself - is wierd. Granted, it's a delayed port, but shoot - you'd figure it would at least get a head nod of a press release or something. Even Eidos's web site has been silent. Were it not for the online storefronts, I never would have seen it coming.

Still don't get how this game didn't make it to the Cube in the first place. I can't fathom that legions of Xbox owners were chomping at this one. Lego Star Wars - if any game - seems like a shoe-in for the console's alleged demographic...

Is there anything better in the GC version? Or do you just like your GC better?
I'm actually considering trading in my PS2 copy and buying the GC one :D.
I'll probably do the same. I had the PS2 version and traded it in. I bought another when CC had it on the cheap. It's still sealed. The thing that bothered me about the PS2 game was it was a blue bottomed disc and seemed to constantly be running in my system. After my first PS2 went and I have a new slim one I can't bear to listen to that. I'll wait for reviews on the GC version but I will most likely switch as well.
Is there anything better in the GC version? Or do you just like your GC better?
Haven't heard a thing about the GC version - hopefully it will have some extras. I'm just hoping it isn't a crappy port with framerate issues, etc (a game like this shouldn't be hard to port perfectly, but you never know). I simply prefer playing games on the GC and we can use the Wavebirds with it - plus it is MUCH easier for the wife/kids to load up GC games than PS2 ones - that little fragile PS2 is going to break one of these days, whereas the GC can take the abuse. :D Plus smaller GC discs mean less fingerprints/scratches, since for some reason they seem unable to handle games cleanly. So for a game that will be put in and out constantly by the family, I much prefer GC games. The PS2 is for SW Battlefront and my RPGs.

I also got Nintendo Power today (free 3-month trial), and as you said, it says "Now on Nintendo GameCube" clear as day on the Lego Star Wars ad. :) Here's to hoping it's not a crappy port.

Unfortunately EB has pushed back the release date till 11/7, so we'll see what happens with it. Far too many GC games getting pushed back. Lockdown finally got around to getting released yesterday, it looks like.

I was very stoked to see this. I love LEGOs and I love Star Wars. As a GCN-only guy, was mystified as to why they chose to neglect that system. Glad to see that's finally being rectified, even if it's not getting much press. Also good to know that this virtually assures a GCN release of the sequel if/when it is confirmed.

The back of the new Nintendo Power magazine said October release. I guess I can go look up the exact date, but I'd prefer not to have to read anything in that awful magazine again.

Unfortunately, the back of Nintendo Power does not specify a release date (it says ""Now on Nintendo GameCube") and the brief preview in the mag notes a "fall" release date. We can hope for October but November is just as possible.

really hope this comes out soon. my little brother only has a Gamecube and has been wanting this game. he even wanted to spend all of his birthday money on a PS2 or Xbox, just to play this game.

so are we looking at a release date between mid to late October? also I noticed amazon.com has the cube version for only 29.99, is that the new MSRP for it?

Is this still coming out on 10/25? That's the date ebgames and gamespot have listed. At $29.99 price point, be great to use for B2G1 at TRU this week.

If anyone is looking for kid games for xmas or otherwise. Toys R us has an exclusive Dora the Explorer game for the Gamecube. I'm planning on picking it up along with Lego Star Wars and maybe Ty 3.

Hey, I was checking that out too - but the damn game sites seem to be above reviewing it at all. I can't find a single review and it has been out for a bit (also for PS2 so you'd think there would be a review somewhere). I just want to find out if it is a decent title for kids. My 3 year-old has been into playing that Tonka Rescue game for the GC. He absolutely loves it. He also likes Dora so I'm thinking this might be a good game for him. But I don't want to drop $30 on it (even if it is part of Buy 2 Get 1 free) unless it is halfway decent. I don't spend that much on new release games for myself :D.

The 3 games you picked would be the 3 $30 GC games I would get at TRU too, if I didn't already have the PS2 version of Lego Star Wars. And I can wait for Ty 3 to get clearanced somewhere - my other son (almost 6) hasn't played through Ty 2 yet (which I also got at TRU during a Buy 2 Get 1 last year - wasn't it only $19.99? Why did they think they could up the price of the Ty series?).

Anyway, if I can find 2 other $29.99 games I'll add in the Dora game (though I'd still like to see a damn review).

I know what you mean, Its hard to find kiddie game reviews. I got that Tonka game for my nephew who was 5 last x-mas and man he loved that thing soo much. I'm just gonna pick it up, my nice and nephew play the simple Dora games on nickjr.com and they love it, im just hoping for the best here. Im getting them for b-day gifts next month so I wont be able to give you a quick review till then.

Well, according to EBgames.com yesterday, Lego Star Wars is available for purchase. I haven't been out to any stores yet though, so I couldn't say if its on shelves anywhere.

I was just at Toys'R'Us a few hours ago and they had Lego Star Wars for Gamecube on the shelf for $29.99. I was tempted to get it, but have been trying to hold back on buying even more games this week.

Thanks for the confirmation btw!

Anyone know if the GC lego starwars has more stuff then the xbox version? I have been holding off getting it in case it ends up being a superior port.

I tend to think not, since it was such a stealth release. If they had spent any effort to add anything to it, they would have done at least a little to announce the launch. Well I guess they did advertise on the cover of Nintendo Power. Hmm. But I think not... :/

Picked it up today at TRU along with Dora the Explorer, and DDR Mario. Got a free game and a $10 giftcard.

Spend $75 and get a $10 giftcard

Just picked up Lego Star Wars last night and got to play it a little today. Freakin' brilliant execution of an amazingly cool idea. It's a real blast to play. Any 'Cube owner who is sitting on the fence needs to run out and pick this one up. Well worth the money.

Yeah, I'm just wondering how it compares to the PS2 version because I may trade my PS2 one in and get the 'Cube version - it is easier for my wife/kids to put in Cube games when I'm not around (they don't like touching the slim PS2 because it seems like it is going to break when you lift the lid). And I tend to wish they'd stay away from the PS2 as well :D. Plus it is all my 2 (going on 3) year old wants to play these days. I might trade in my PS2 version and get the GC one, but I want to be sure it isn't one of those crappy ports that for no good reason are worse on the GC than the PS2.
Maybe they'll include Lego Nintendo Characters. Hooray for LEGO MARIO!!!! HAHAHAHA
Lego doesn't own the Nintendo rights. :p

Lego can make...

Star Wars
SpongeBob
Avatar
Batman
Spiderman
Mickey Mouse
Pooh
Bob the Builder
Harry Potter

But nope, not a Lego nintendo game. :p
