I Recieved an E-Mail today regarding The Mortuary Assistant on Nintendo Switch from Super-Rare-Games..

Unfortunately Shipping has been Delayed until Mid March 2025 so that we can include the Recent Updates on the cart.

The Version on our Physical Cartier will be 1.08 which includes the following updates..

● Improved Overall Visual Quality
● Increased Resolution of Textures
● Disabled Some Bloom and Depth of Field Effects That Were Causing Performance Issues
● Fixed Rebeccas Animation During a Certain Ending
● Fixed an Issue That Was Allowing The Player To Spin While Inspecting Items

We truly care about delivering an exceptional gaming experience for our customers which is why we waited to include these updates on the games we produce.

We appreciate your patience and we hope you find the updated cart to be well worth the wait -

Kinda nice & I'm ok with them taking the time to do it correctly as much as they can -

It’s a sample of an Islamic call to prayer chanting Allahu Akbar in repetition in a fire hellscape temple, with other Arabic prayers, some that translate to "I bear witness that there is no God but Allah." Of course Nintendo changed it for any number of reasons. A few years before 9/11, not good. At a minimum it’s cultural appropriation, the conspiracy theorists and jingoists can and did come up with what it was at its worst.
IIRC the chant was ripped from one of those "royalty free" sample CDs and as a Japanese speaker Koji Kondo (the composer) likely had no knowledge of the translation of the chant. It was probably just picked because he felt it suited the accompanying music. Not trying to defend its inclusion or resulting "censorship," just providing context. From what I understand using royalty free samples was (still is?) very common in video game music composition.

how do you guys know when to preorder a game, and when to wait and purchase later under retail?
If you want a CE you'll need to order it from LRG. Their CEs don't usually make their way to other retailers.

A numbered title will be available at VGP, but there is risk of it selling out if you're not on top of things.

Distro titles I wouldn't order from LRG at all, unless it's a CE (see above). Amazon stocks standards on distro titles.

The exception on distro is Xbox versions. They don't make it past LRG pre-order stages unless VGP gets them and that's usually a low stock situation as well.

If it's numbered then I will likely just get it from LRG (or wait for VGP to get their copies... or maybe look at the asia english release over on Playasia). If it's not numbered then I'll wait for retail. Especially anything common/popular. TMNT Shredders Revenge was easy to wait for retail on. Heck it was in regular Walmart stores and was on sale within a month or so of being available for purchase.

The bigger issue with buying these games though isn't the path to get it but weighing how bad I actually want the game. Is it worth the wait? Am I just getting caught up in nostalgia for something that maybe I'm not as hyped to replay? Am I getting caught up in other peoples hype or do I really want to play these games? If something I'm interested in was on sale digitally for $5, would I still want the physical for $40 or $50? Would I want both? IF the physical was available today for full price from a store I could go to, would I buy a copy today and break the seal and start playing it? A lot of times the answer is no. There's so much of this stuff that boils down to FOMO and FOMO fed by Nostalgia.

I've dialed back my physical game purchases to specific series/franchises/developers and games that really light a fire in me. It's so easy to get caught up in the hype of something. Especially when nostalgia is involved and the original version was something you loved to bits. Not every loved game from the past is going to hold up nor are you going to actually break that seal and play it. Sometimes Nostalgia is better relived in watching a video and reminising instead of trying to go back. That said, you do you. Just don't get too bogged down in the FOMO of it all. It can be a huge trap for many and for every game that you miss, someone is going to have a copy for sale on ebay or somewhere else. Yes, some get pricy, but if you focus only on games that absolutely excite you to play right this minute.. then it gets easier to let some of that stuff go (or just go digital and forget the physical).

I imagine few people even know of team wolf from tales of series given that they only worked on the first 4 games in the series and only 2 were localized till Phantasia got later ports.

The average person probably wouldn't know team symphonia either. Edit Granted symphonia and vesperia both had recent ports and are the 2 best sellers in na and series worldwide.

Design wise you can somewhat easily tell teams games apart as symphonia using similar stuff refined basically as they went along minus some backsteps abyss had like fewer spells, smaller combos since they removed a tier, elements and no control over keeping altered moves.

It's why I felt that hearts r was such a return to form in so many ways despite the low budget and it being outsourced. As it included loads of returning mechanics like the arena with cameo battles, in game costume and sidequests vs it being relegated almost entirely as dlc, wonderchef even made a return as they hadn't been in a game since vesperia. Oh and joke equipment, arena equipment and devils/fell arms all returning.

I think the only other real thing it missed was the undead swordsman sword dancer 3x battles? It's basically a recurring boss that first started in symphonia. Hard as nails and missable permanently in both that and abyss. The latter especially so due to the game gives you the option to warp back to the docks vs walk back. And if you do that then you would not find sword dancer in the lobby/ entrance to choral castle. The boss is easier in abyss too as jade comes with a light spell energy blast early in. compared to raine not learning photon till around lv20 in symphonia. And without grinding you'll probably not hit 20 till a while later.

I keep hearing about NS cart revisions and also learn there existed these revisions for older games, even dating back to the GC they were apparently very common (Melee apparently had a few). I still don't fully understand why these different revisions exist and why some are better than others.
MK8 Deluxe world be a great one to have. All DLC on cart, especially since i "own" it thru NSO expansion. Definitely going to add it to the collection before it goes OOP.

On a unrelated note, anyone picking NG2BLack physical on PS5? Hope someone post it once it goes up, I need that! I'm keeping an eye out myself, let's band together lol. #ForeverPhysical

ahhh, the beginning of Limited* Run Games and the erosion of yet another “working partnership”

Best Buy
Amazon
Best Buy again for like a minute

VGP (on the chopping block)

Why sell your extras to VGP when you can do it yourself?

VGP gets extras made up front and these are extras used for shipping damage replacements and such. So, 2 sets of extras. At least. 🤪

Yeah, this has nothing to do with VGP buying games to resell.

The whole Vault thing... I feel kind of bad for the FOMO folks who are going to have to check that regularly for new updates on games they missed.

The Vault thing is them finally clearing the shelf rot front the warehouse and physical store.

There's no way that stuff remains economically viable to sit on the shelf for years. There's photos showing years old CEs still sitting at their shop. They have dozens of copies of games that go above retail on their shelf.

Most of what they sell doesn't meet minimum quotas I bet, like stupid Kemco crap or weird stuff. They could cancel their limited print and move to open pre-orders likely because they were consistently not hitting MOQs.

I don't want limited physical print stuff to fail, but certainly tons of room for better publishers to arise to outcompete the current line of middling to garbage print houses.

I'm interested in what Ps Vita games LRG will be making available.. I started collecting Vita with them day 1 with Breach & Clear.

I have alot a good amount of their Ps Vita stuff.. so hopefully I can grab some Vita & other Ps4 or Switch titles that I don't have yet

Didn't have 90's Disney marketing on my bingo card, but here we are. I have a feeling most people are hoping for something like Pirate's Curse to come out of the woodwork, but really we're going to get a few thousand copies of Jumanji, Kemco, Holy Potatoes, and the other stuff that couldn't hit MOQ.

It would make more sense to just put the physical store's inventory online, but I guess that doesn't milk FOMO quite as well.

and VGP is selling the same thing with a nice markup.

Usually pretty even between the exchange rate, rewards, no tax, and the free shipping threshold. I feel like we've had this conversation before.

A lot of their vita games aren't pricey on ebay. Of course there are pricey games but I took some time last night and looked for a few games that I bought because I thought they were great games and the aftermarket for them was pretty much what I paid or a few dollars less. In some cases the Collectors version was very close to what I paid for a standard. So if you haven't picked through what's available through ebay, maybe take a look. I doubt anything of any serious value is going to show up on LRG's Vault.

So you're telling me my retirement fund is negative?

Soul Reaver standard and deluxe editions are now available from VGP: https://bsky.app/profile/cheapassgamer.com/post/3lhjqzcwct22v

Mentioning it here because it was implied to be an exclusive/numbered LRG release before. Guessing they'll hit Amazon and other retailers soon.
Ordered the deluxe PS5. Missed out on the LRG, due to horrible marketing but glad i did. I rather have this steelbook without being force to get the CE.

I remember liking Glover a lot as a kid. Whether it's held up I can't say; it's been over twenty years since I played it. I'll probably pick up a copy out of curiosity, but I guess that puts me in the nostalgia crowd.

Gex games were pretty cool. I remember liking the first quite a bit and the 2nd was pretty neat as well. I don't think I ever played the third. I will likely get them digital regardless. Glover I remember being a joke on the N64 way back when (reviewed poorly in magazines I read), and by that time I was already kind of getting over mascot platformers (still love me DK64 though!). Will I want to get Gex games for I hope $40 + shipping.....time will tell, but probably yeah.

Infuriating that they didn't let the Xbox version of Legacy of Kain be open pre-order.

They probably couldn't risk it not selling MOQ. Which, business wise, I can't really blame them for it. Limited quantities is why so many middling indie games sold out on Vita and PS4 back in the day. Open preorder is great if the game is in decent demand and will easily blowout MOQ but otherwise, better to use the FOMO and sell out. I can't imagine there are enough Xbox collectors to really meet MOQ any other way.
