Link's Crossbow Training! Shipped To Stores! $19.99!

Link's Crossbow Training is the best $19.99 you'll ever spend on the Wii. Not only do you get a chintzy plastic shell in which you'll hold your Wii remote and Nunchuk that you can eventually offload on eBay, you'll get the best shooter pack-in since Duck Hunt. Despite the "training" moniker, Link's Crossbow Training isn't going to be confused with Nintendo's series of brain and vision strengthening software titles. It will, however, bring out the high score thirsty fiend in you.

Link's Crossbow Training is broken up into 9 levels, each with three stages. These stages are one of three types: Target Shooting, Defender or Ranger.
Target Shooting levels consists of a series of bull's-eyes that pop up on screen, including proper wooden bull's-eyes on posts or held by Goron, or in the style of skeet shooting, with a series of cow skulls catapulted into the air.

Defender sees an on screen Link in an over-the-shoulder camera style, remaining stationary. Players can pan the camera left or right with the direction of the Wii remote to look around. In one stage, a horde of Stalfos bears down on him, while in another Link floats down a river, facing Tektikes and other water creatures.

Ranger gameplay uses the analog stick to move Link around a level, with the Wii remote again used to look around. In one stage, Link must eliminate 25 Moblins with the crossbow with a strict time limit. Far more awkward than the other two game types and decidedly less enjoyable in its control complexity.

The challenge in Link's Crossbow Training comes from its combo system. Simply put, the more shots you string together, the better your score multiplier. There is some strategy involved here, as you'll want to save targets that net more points for later on in your combo sequence. Add a host of interactive objects in each level—barrels, scarecrows, clay pots, all of which can be shot for more points and a higher multiplier—and you'll be going in for just one more attempt at your high score and a better end of level medal.

Link's Crossbow Training was the biggest surprise for me at Nintendo's recent media event. While I'll regularly scoff at the Wii Zapper and the majority of the software that supports it, I'll gladly play plenty of Link's Crossbow Training. For a budget title, it has made its Zapper peers look like a bunch of amateurs.

Kotaku.

Glad to hear that the game has some substance to it. Wii Zapper is probably a must buy now. Sounds like a good party game, and will be nice to have when stuff like the RE shooter drop to $20 or less next year.
....offload the game on ebay if it is going for enough
I wouldn't count on it going for much. Given it's only $20 for the Zapper and the game, most interested folks will just buy it and there probably won't be many people dying to play it without the zapper.

But of course if you plan on a lot of 2 player Zapper action in your house, by all means buy two and get what you can out of the 2nd copy of the game.

If there is no option to configure the controls and move the trigger to the nunchuk (the way it should be for every single zapper title), then this game is crap.

This is going to be one of those rare titles I can buy under the guise of it being a gift for my husband, and then use it whenever I want.... muahaha! This and Ghost Squad for Christmas FTW :p

I wonder if they will be selling the zapper on its own at any sort of discount... gotta have two.

sounds and looks like it plays like the shooting game from wii play only better. Definatly worth $20, even if I never use the zapper thing.
betcha it'll sell like hotcakes
Absolutely, I'd be shocked if it doesn't have a pretty darn high attachment rate with newly-sold consoles throughout the holiday season and beyond. I mean, $20 for a game and a pretty desirable-looking accessory - seems to be a solid formula for sales, as Wii Play was.
It appears that Gamestop intends to charge MSRP+$5 for this, if the in store price reflects the listing on the website.
Yeah, don't buy from them. Almost everywhere else has it for the proper price of $20.

I wasn't planning on getting this, but after seeing the screenshots and reading the impressions I think I'm going to have to pick it up when it comes out.

Looking forward to this. I certainly hope we have a legitmite reinvisioning of Duck Hunt on Wii Ware though. It's essentially done via the Wii Play shooting game. I just want some polygon ducks to shoot. ;)

I'll definitely be getting this. I'll have to pick up two eventually, I'm not sure if the game will sell on ebay well enough to cover any of the cost though.
Does anyone know the release date?
11/19 according to gamestop.com so you'll probably see them in stores around 11/20.

Glad to hear the game is good but it sounds like the Zapper is shit, as I expected. The thing looks so uncomfortable to use- they should've just made it for the Wiimote only and let the nunchuck hang freely.

But for $20, why not?

Why is NoA insistent on giving us cardboard sleeves? Gonna have to order another case and print out another insert. :p

Comeon thecoverproject.net, don't fail me now! :)

Heh, that's not really a bad thing, as now I won't feel dumb ordering a single case like I've been meaning to do for Wii Sports.
Crap! Forgot about that. We all got our white DVD boxes from the Target DVD last year..where we going to get them now ?!
Luckily when I traded in Mario Strikers on Friday, I had seen the unboxing of LCT, so I threw it in an old PS2 case, saving my white case for this.
So..should expect to see this in EB/GS today?

In this http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/18/washington-post-expects-wii-zapper-backlash-too-gun-like/]article Joystiq (besides that people are acting a fool again), also states that "tomorrow the bundle will drop" (this was posted yesterday)

I hope so! I'm off today..I'd love to go get this TODAY! :)
You'll probably see it there tomorrow, not today. Also, get ready to pay $25 for it at GS as well. They gave it the $5 Nintendo bump!

I noticed that Target is doing the same thing.

yeah, lots of places are doing the $25 price.. :(
Why not get 10 for $2.60?

eh, i dunno, i'm a stickler for the "wii" logo on the inside by the disc. it just feels more official.

back on track, i agree on the "looks uncomfy" angle, but for $20~$25... i might bite at toysrus for the b2g1f (and perhaps get the godfather) and burn my smg $25 card.

Yes, the cardboard sleeve ticks me off. Espically considering the retail box was designed perfectly to hold a full game case!

Thankfully, the fine folks at www.thecoverproject.net should be on it pretty soon! :)

Also, Wal*Mart has the set for $19.82. Get it there. :)

Good thing I still have one of those 'Living The Game with Wii and Activision' DVDs from Target last year lying around! Used one of those boxes for Wii Sports, worked great. As you guys said, TheCoverProject will pull through. :)
Also, Wal*Mart has the set for $19.82. Get it there. :)
Awesome, be all over that after thanksgiving.

Went to Walmart and GS today.. no one had them.

I, sadly, will be getting mine at GS because I have a $15 gift card PLUS I have the 10% coupon. I'll be buying 2, so I'll most likely sell Link's Crossbow Training for like $10. So overall I'll be spending $23 :D

i think the box was specifically designed for sales in japan

I got it yesterday from Wal-Mart, 2 to be exact. I've unlocked all 9 levels. You can get Bronze for 20,000 points, Silver for 40,000, Gold for 60,000 and Platinum for 80,000 combined points on the 3 stages of each level. I've got Gold for 1-3, Platinum for 4, Bronze for 5 & 8, and Silver for 6, 7 & Final. I played it without the Zapper, b/c it's easier. I'm used to having the Wiimote in my right, and the Nunchuk in my left hand. If I use the Zapper, I have to hold it in front of my body as opposed to letting it hang on the side, which gets tiring after a while. The only thing you can adjust is the height and cursor speed, so you can't map out the buttons the way you want. It's fun, but the lack of button mapping makes the Zapper useless to me with Link's Crossbow Training. There's also a training mode, where you can play the individual levels you've unlocked when you unlock a stage.
in Europe, we got a case with our wii. HA! also, we got mario strikers first:booty:
Congrats! I wouldn't trade places with Europe in terms of gaming, ever. ;)

Hmm, I wasn't sure what to think of this when I first heard about it -- but the reaction here seems positive. For 20 bucks, I may be picking this up later.
