List Your Favorite J-Pop Group/Song Here

fuck mang jpop sux these days...

today I decided to stop listening to rap for a while and popped in this classic:

rise.jpg

coincidentally, the jpop thread at CAG from a year ago got bumped on the same day, lol.

the last good jpop record that came out recently that I really liked a lot was

B000NVTHIC.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_V24880272_.jpg

Shiori Takei - Diary

Meh, Speed...
Kana
I definately respect people's opinions and I know everyone has different tastes. But, IMO, Kana is AWFUL! She actually hurts my ears. It's cool that you like something different though.

I'm more into rock, and I'm sure not everyone agrees with my picks.

- FAKE?
- Abingdon Boys School
- Beat Crusaders
- Galneryus
- Moi Dix Mois
- Schwarz Stein/Hora/Kaya
- Kagrra
- X Japan
- Violet UK (Yoshiki of X Japan's current project)
- Cherry Filter (Korean Female-vocal rock group)

Lot of great Jpop mentioned in this thread. Some other artists/groups not mentioned:
Hirahara Ayaka
Sakamoto Maaya
Okui Masami
Sowelu
Kuraki Mai
Dreams Come True

I think Halicali was mentioned, but I like her a lot too.

For JRock I enjoy:
Luna Sea
Gackt
D
X Japan
D'espairs Ray
Do As Infinity (probably still my favorite band)
Gazette
Janne da Arc
Kaggra
The Brilliant Green
...and others...

I was wondering if there's any artists out there that tend to have kind of an slower melody, or perhaps an r&b feel to them?
I was wondering if there's any artists out there that tend to have kind of an slower melody, or perhaps an r&b feel to them?
Crystal Kay.

She's AWESOME.
Meh, Speed...
whaaaat?!?! aw hellz naw!

wrecognize yo, Speed's the shyt!

what makes them dope is like 60% of the time they're not even singing!

they're just screaming and shouting like the 12 year old girls that they are,

but they make it sound awesome!!

Rise is classic shyt too! anybody who was anybody that listened to jpop when it was released was bumping it ALL DAY.

Rise did to 1998 what the Chronic did to 1992.

well... not exactly as maximum II and Time Do Destination were released that same year,

but still u get the point!

plus, Takako is freakin gorgeous!

that is, the 20+ year old Takako, not the 12 year old one...

I swear if I ever met her I'd spit so much game that I'd become dehydrated.

it wouldnt even matter if I was taken, or if she was either, it would only be a matter of time til she would totally fall for me
I was wondering if there's any artists out there that tend to have kind of an slower melody, or perhaps an r&b feel to them?
Crystal Kay is more upbeat, if u want slow check out the Shiori Takei album I mentioned earlier:

not all the songs are slow like this, but it's a real good record!

ah Mistah Beef, if u missed it I edited my post to include a recommendation for you.

That's cool gigan! It's like some crazy azn mishmash of Van Halen and Def Leppard.

Thanks for bumpn this thread, y'all...!

Well, if we're doing YouTube, I'll post a few...

"Duck Flies" - Cherry Filter

"Howling" - Abingdon Boys School

"Praise" - FAKE?

"Hit in the USA" - Beat Crusaders (Opening for the anime "BECK")

I don't know if this counts as J-Pop, but give eX-Girl a listen if you haven't already. A good first song might be "Hettakorii No Ottokotou."

I swear this song is so catchy...

it's so avril laviney tommy heavenly sixish style, but I dont care!

I wish they woulda jus broken up instead...
B'z are one of the best bands that have ever graced this planet

B'z is mad old but they are still good. if i remember they got there start in the 80's right? also didnt they have a song in Ouendon?

Noto Mamiko-Aizone(nice soft voice. Also a popular seiyuu and the voice of Yakumo, the girl in my sig. )

Shocking Lemons- Inner Light(Hajime No Ippo Op 2) I still love this band

AKFG-Blackout(One of my favorite of all time)

I used to be a very big fan of Do As Infinity. However, after their decline and breakup, I haven't really enjoyed the JMusic scene. Even though the guitarist and Van Tomiko the lead singer pursued solo careers, it just isn't the same.

And after much speculation (used to frequent DAI fan forum), I believe the former lead singer is full japanese... But she's smokin' hot.

ZONE was good too, but they broke up too. I tried getting into Morning Musume, but the music is just meh to me.

I just started getting into Namie Amuro, and she's pretty good. I've only heard 1-2 songs, but does anyone have any good suggestions for other tracks?
I just started getting into Namie Amuro, and she's pretty good. I've only heard 1-2 songs, but does anyone have any good suggestions for other tracks?
I like these:

Come (which was also one of the Inuyasha ending themes)
So Crazy
All for You
Four Seasons
I just started getting into Namie Amuro, and she's pretty good. I've only heard 1-2 songs, but does anyone have any good suggestions for other tracks?
whaaaaat?!?!?!

man... Namie needs to stop making records!

she shoulda stopped long ago imo!

old Amuro:

newer Amuro I enjoyed:

I also highly recommend this album:

B00007FOPV.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

it's Nami Amuro's concept record, Suite Chic - When Pop Hits the Fan.

there's also a remix version called When Pop Hits the Lab, both are very good records

I recommend the works of Kenichi Asai. He's simply a brilliant guitarist and the beating heart of Japanese indie rock.
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRPIXf8h3PI

Supercar is a great band if you have a taste for rock with a helping of electronic added to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z51Fw78vxMg

Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen is another of my favorites. Her voice is pretty love it or hate it, but I love what she does with music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgFkuDygFkQ

Lastly I'll recommend Love Psychedelico. They're a great retro-rock band. Rather similar to Yaida Hitomi in sound.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ytqhwWf-AE

and some other good bands that I won't provide videos for include:
Anatakikou
Mongol 800
Blankey Jet City
Jude
Gutevolk
hide
Losalios
noodles
Sadistic Mika Band

edit: the text youtube links are additional songs by the artists. in order to keep the post smaller I didn't media tag them.
Man I love this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRIf8ecHYCE
that's a real good song, but m-flo sucks ass ever since Lisa left the group.

they were one of the best groups u just couldnt eff with, then they turned pop HARD.

their post Lisa records still had good songs on them, but I couldnt stomach cosmicolor at all... they didnt even try with that one...

when I want pop I will listen to this:

Man, I can't get enough of Crystal Kay...

Love this one.

That is one tight beat IMO.

I'm more of a fan of this one:

or did u post it already??? lol

Sweet. I remember seeing ads/promo for Crystal Kay, but not actually hearing any of the music. I'm definitely gonna grab some now.

Thanks, guys!

Oh man, I just heard Foxxi misQ. Oh my fucking God. Amazing stuff!

Hey, if anyone knows of a good site with Crystal Kay pics please let me know. I like my new sig I made, but I'd like to make more. It seems the only pics I can find are album cover scans for the most part and I'd prefer magazine scans or event pics.

yo wtf is a Maki Goto? like the Morning masaume girl adored by 14 year-old white girls who love japanese things and stand in line for the TM Revolution concert talkin about what they're gonna do when they go to Japan?

yeay I think that's how I heard of her but never gave her any attention...

but this song is great! it reminds me of old Hitomi & Aikawa Nanase stuff from before y2k:

speaking of Morning Masamune, I bought one of their cds once coz Love Machine was a hella addicting song:

the album didnt even have that song... but it had this fun song:

and then ever since then I never listened to them again, the record was awful!!

except for that song! endoless! endoless summa!

Very nice Myke, check this out...
S.O.B.

And for the J-pop fans, here's something that's a favorite of mine because I'm a big Hokuto No Ken fan, the music is sort of pop sounding I guess.

CRYSTAL KING! YOU WA SHOCK!

Taiyou no Season is my favorite song from her :bouncy:

two more Amuro classics:

(not very good quality btw)

Not really J-Pop persay, but more like J-Rock Pop-ish

"Blast My Desire" M.O.V.E. one of the most underrated J groups.

move was one of my favorite jpop groups.. I have followed them since they released Electrock.

but then Boulder came out... the worst album ever!!

I bought all their albums (except Decadance) up until that one...

but GRID was a lot better, I hope their new record is a hit:

I always wanted to make a whole post about move in this thread, but I'm too tired rite now... there's a lot to say about them tho.

ayo happy birthday to my girl TACHIBANA KANA!!

she is one of the original member of Dream (along with Hasebe Yu and another pretty girl named Matsumuro Mai)

she 22 now!! ^_^v

official blog: http://ameblo.jp/tachibana-kana/

Dream is a very weird group... their songs are all sound weird but and they are always hit or miss for me in terms of enjoyment...

but the hits are enough for me to admire the group in general!! But Mai left and they replaced her with like 6 other girls... I dont even kno what that sounded like, it looked terrible!!

altho now they renamed themselves to DRM and released this wonderful song I always play on repeat!!

I already posted that video, but I like it so much I will post it AGAIN!!

time for pics!

had it not been for that song, I would not make this post! ^_^b

ayo! happy (belated) birthday to KANA TACHIBANA!

AGAIN!

with CAKE!

10036398815.jpg

I just discovered that my favorite song of their from their first record has a music video:

not the full song unfortunately, and ignore the dancing becoz it's really terrible!!

but damn, they look real good in it!

especially MAI! omg hotness!! I dont care if she's only like 17 in that video, she hot!! (surprisingly, she's actually older than me, lol)

girls with short hair are such a paradox to me man... like they can look good... REAL good (MAI omg!!), but it's not fun to touch... and that's what's most important.

anyway to make up for the bad dancing in that vis, I offer:

probably some of the best dance I have seen in a jpop video!! compared to:

some of the most vicious (break) dancing (and hairstyles... MULLETHAWK) I have seen in a video.

I forgive the mullethawk tho... I still
