Little Big Planet - Gen. Discussion & Info

There's plenty of other games out there to play.

Persona 3 can get by with kids shooting themselves in the head.....but LBP can't because of two lines in a song?

Rubbish.

Persona 3 was M-rated, which ruins your argument.

And you are against fun since the LBP ad campaign says its fighting for fun and that "Fun shall overcome." So you're fighting in the war against fun now.

Pandering is pandering no matter what group it's to.

Sony didn't pander to the CofE over the use of the church in Manchester, and I was really proud of them for that, yet they're caving over two lines in a song - it's ridiculous.

You didn't see MS and Bioware caving to religious nuts over Mass Effect. It doesn't matter whether the game is M rated or not - pandering is pandering.

Seriously, just give it a rest. Sony made a decision. They are in charge. 1 more week. 7 more days. You will have your game like nothing ever happened.

Remember this is the Mainstream game that Sony has... that's why its in the papers, that's why its on (or will be on) morning talk shows, so Sony can't have any Bad publicity regarding the game. NO controversies. LBP is the game that's going to sell PS3s this year to the mainstream consumer... LBP is the reason why (or at least one reason) there isn't going to be a PS3 price drop this holiday season. Because Sony believes this game will move systems. Sony can't afford for LBP to have any issues.

It's a bit late for that, isn't it?
I've been reading a lot of posts on this topic (here and elsewhere) and I think almost everyone is missing one point. Most people are assuming that Sony recalled these games only because they're afraid of Muslims. Some think they've done it for legal reasons. Then there are those who think Sony is just being sensitive about Muslim's feelings. I think in reality, they did it for all these reasons and one more that nobody seems to mention.

Did you guys hear what those verses mean? Do you bellieve many people would appreciate having Quoran verses in their game? I think the main reason Sony reacted so strongly to this (instead of just a patch) is because they don't want people to feel like LBP is associated with Muslims and their religion.

You think this is negative publicity? Just imagine what would happen to LBP if people were being told that there is Muslim Quoran verses in it. Just reading the responses you could see how much people appreciate Muslims. I think its ironic that, because people assumed they removed it because they're afraid of Muslims, instead of being glad that Muslim religions verses aren't in the game people are instead saying how much they would like it if it was.

Everything is just flipped. Pretty funny, to me.
winner winner chicken dinner.

Sony's in a no-win spot. Leave it in, run the ire of the nutjob parents in the US who are scared to death of all-things nonwhite and nonchristian, and you have a swath of fatties in mom jeans storming the castle demanding to know the reason why Sony put "MOO-SLIM" propaganda into their kids' games.

Take it out, and run the risk of overreaction from folks who think that they're evidently trying to avoid a bomb threat.

P'shaw to all of this. Rock Band 2 comes out Sunday. Bioshock 2 days later. Shut the fuck up, it ain't like there's nothing to play in the meantime. Like I told the kid who got bent because Obama paid for ad space in Burnout: get a real fuckin' cause.

HA! I didn't know about that. Paradise I assume?

Here is my opinion on the matter.

The lyrics on the song is not offensive. No reason to delay.

I'm assuming like 'most' games, there is a play list where you have the ability to select and take off the track. This means you don't have to listen to it. The game should have been shipped as is, no one is forcing you to buy the game. Its a choice, if you are offended over unimportant shit, then it is your lost.

The fact that they delayed and took off content (even one song) is lame. Maybe they should give us that Solid Snake Sack Boy for the first week free :)
Haven't played Zack or Wiki - was that changed for religious reasons?

OOT - played it briefly but not much.

I'm not denying myself anything. I'm voting with my wallet that I don't support censorship.
I just remember you complaining loudly about so many remakes and ports being created and not enough new original tiles.

So here comes along this brilliant little piece of original gaming, and you're just gonna say, no thanks now, after they quickly fix their game to make sure it falls under the E rating worldwide.

Seems to me the better vote would be to encourage new IPs like this.

Apparently Gamestop is now handing out a different style pre-order card code for LBP that includes a picture of all 3 Sack costumes.

Yeah they have been doing that for awhile (before this). According to other CAGers, the codes are the same (at least do the same) just different looking card.
Hey everyone here are some custom Sackboys.

Those are pretty damn good and if I remember correctly, I saw a decent Hellboy one done someplace already too. Personally, I'd go off and try to make some infamous world leaders for my game(s).

I may still try and get someone at the local Blockbuster to release a copy of this to me tomorrow, assuming they don't look at the ginormous board behind them and/or corporate didn't get them up to date on the delay.

you know, this is exactly like what happened w/ blizzard and all the people whining about diablo 3 being too "bright"...........

except blizzard had balls where sony did not. I suppose that's because blizzard has more confidence in their "vision" than sony does (I'm sure there's still some uncertainty if this game will sell as well as they hope it will).

So in the end, it's all just a cost-benefit analysis decision based on the fact that most people aren't going to not buy the game simply because of a delay, and even less because of stripped content.
Therefore delaying the game simply gives them padding from "that" controversy.

Teh Nitwit's point about the game being associated w/ muslim could be a legit point as far as sony's imaginings. However if things panned out, I highly doubt it would have caused any real controversy in the media. but hey, I guess better to be safe than sorry.

oh well, I never thought i'd get a chance to re-use this image from when Sony bowed down to pressure on the ps3 and announced pricecuts before launch.

now of course this can all be reversed rather nicely if they offer a free DLC to re-insert the song back into the game as it was intended in the first place before the "Rabble rabble rabble"

why do you need more time =p. Live 30% cashback was the best opportunity.

Except there was nothing to "fix" in the first place.

You're right, people complaining about an artistic decision in a game that is years away from release is exactly like Sony recalling a game at the last minute for fear of the shitstorm that would come down on them from religious groups.

And yeah, Sony should have balls by saying "fuck your religion, we got games to make."

Why does the original post say 11/14 is the new release date - I thought it was just pushed back a week?

The only problem I'm having with the delay is that it's forcing me to consider purchasing Dead Space this weekend. I had no problem waiting for the inevitable price cut to $40 within a couple months with LBP coming Tuesday, but I've already gone 3 months without a new game purchase and it's killing me!

Because he hasn't updated it yet. If you're looking a game to purchase, buy a used one and play that.

i would say reprinting discs but idk if its more expensive to make BRs i can imagine they are. but then it shouldnt take them long to have a patch out. i miss playing this game. bout to go out and look for it as i see some retailers may already have.

There are multiple reports of Blockbusters having this for rent now so you may want to check your local store. It's $7.99 for a 2 week rental if you don't have a games pass and you can always keep the rental for $59.99 and ask for the box and book. :) Reports are in the Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deals thread.

I tried my nearest BB with no luck but i'm about to hit 2 more and try at least.

Holy shit! I just got my copy! I pre-ordered it off of ebay thinking it would get here next week but I went out to my mailbox and there it was! I really want to play this game but I should probably keep it sealed, eh?

Unless Sony puts something on the packaging (hopefully on the cover art itself) claiming it's the corrected release that probably won't be worth as much as you think. Otherwise there's going to be no way to distinguish the differences between the original print and the revised edition.
I wonder how much the uncensored LBPs will run.
Some douche on ebay is selling multiple copies on eBay for like $250 each.

Anyone who buys a copy for that price needs to be put of their misery.
I wonder how much the uncensored LBPs will run.
I'm going to guess that most copies people can get on Day 1 are going to be uncensored. Considering they just found about the lyrics on the Thursday before the original release, and it only being a week long delay tells me that they can't change that many discs that quick.

Play it offline first, then online, get the patch, and hear the difference.

good point... I thought they would be doing a reprint but a patch makes more sense.
