Little Big Planet - Gen. Discussion & Info
Aced all of the Uncle Jalapeno levels.

Holy crap that was intense. And that's only the 4th world out of 8!
I still can't ace the mines level.. Holy carp.. I always get one little ding by fire or something and I'm toast!

Next time I'll see you online, I'll see if I can join your game. :)

*throws up blood*

I just finished my second big level; Little Dead Space. Please, please go try it out! I put a hell of a lot of time into it, I hope it shows. Also, I am not a professional level creator so have pity on certain parts!

Thanks a ton if ya try it out!

Level: Little Dead Space
Creator; DarknessBear

Eep. I'll just wait till it gets deleted than I'll republish it with a different name.

Thanks a lot! 5 people are playing it... I'm so fricken nervous... Hope nothing goes wrong.

They've actually been getting deleted completely from what I hear. You won't have it anymore to republish it. Something to do with levels not actually being hosted online.

That would friggen suck.

It's stupid that developers would want them to not have levels made of their game, isn't that the best publicity ever?

Ah sucky.

I already have 12 people that played! Oh god I hope its working. Please let me know asap if something is broken. It's a very complex level.
Gonna have to rename my level to... Little Space of Dead? They basically just destroyed a great deal of what makes this game so great... can't believe Media Molecule is doing that. It's completely idiotic... I hate this fucking world. "I was going to buy God of War, but than I played it on Little Big Planet; NOW I DONT HAVE TO!"

*added* Lmao! Right after I typed that I read a comment on my level and it said, "I was going to get Dead Space instead of LBP, but didn't! You helped me fill that void!"

darkness, I gotta learn some things ur doing... mainly the timing stuff. I never plan to make a level as complex but I just want to understand the mechanics of how it works.
We currently have it being moved by a piston, but we may need to make it a wheel or rocket as made the hallway it's in twice as long as the maximum piston length.
Just a thought as I haven't messed around in the editor yet, but couldn't you just use two pistons?

Like have one piston connected to a thin wall, then another piston connecting that wall to the spiked wall, then have the second piston start moving when the spiked wall got t a certain part of the hallway?

Haha, thanks. Pistons are your friends... I had a lot of friggen triggers behind the scenes. I want to make it Copyable so people can see... If you Ace it or find the hidden area, there are some behind the scene pictures.
But basically, you just slap a "Key Trigger" onto a piston, set it to your desired time and put a bunch of keys down the track and voila you got yourself a timed sequence.

Why does my Play Share Create little tally things never work? Still at 0 0 0 and also the My Pictures doesnt work either. This game is really broken at times.
I need a little level design advice.

My friend and I are making a level, and we want to have a part with a spiked wall chasing you. We've also built a little obstacle course out of dissolve material with magnetic switches on every piece, and a magnetic key switch on the spiked wall so that the obstacle course gets out of the way of the wall. Otherwise, the wall gets destroyed.

We're having a problem with getting the wall to move just as you get to that section. We tried the sensor switch, but we're having trouble getting that to work. We currently have it being moved by a piston, but we may need to make it a wheel or rocket as made the hallway it's in twice as long as the maximum piston length.

Also, the secondary problem that I have to worry about is that this part if a one shot part. If you fail, the obstacle course will be gone. I'm not going to worry about that though until we get it working in the first place.
From what I think you are asking, you would need to use a sensor switch that triggers a magnetic switch.

Something along the lines of having a magnetic key and switch separated by a piece of dissolve material. You have the magnetic switch set to control the wall movement and the sensor switch to control the dissolve material between the magnetic key and the magnetic switch. Once you hit the sensor, it destroys the dissolve material between the magnetic key and the magnetic switch, which then trigger the wall. Since the magnetic key will stay on the magnetic switch, it will keep the wall moving.

Just make sure to make the key color something different than you are using on the wall to destroy the dissolve stuff as it's moving.

I hope that made sense, wasn't really sure how to say it lol. :dunce:
you might want to change the name due to what I've heard of copyright levels being deleted.
I don't understand why they are doing this. Are they fearing some sort of copyright infringement lawsuit from user generated content?

I don't see how this is any different than having Halo designed levels and character skins in UT3, or any of the other number of user generated content for games that borrow from or pay homage to other franchises.

If this were the case, would there not be problems with every mods / skin site on the net, or every Harry Potter fan fiction site out there? Hell even comic book fan art would be out of the question then.

I don't think you understood my question, or I didn't understand your answer.

We want to have a sensor switch trigger the wall movement. The wall should stay stationary until you get to that section, and then the sensor switch turn the piston on to move once you get in front of it. Right now the problem is, for whatever reason, the wall moves from the very start of the level (and the dissolving obstacle course is already gone when you get there).

You have the sensor switch linked to the wench/piston and the sensor set to on/off or directional? That is strange :/

Well, we were trying to get it to do the "one shot." All that was doing was delaying the start. I tried doing on/off and directional too, but it would either shut off or change directions if you got too far away from it.

This is what I was talking about. I know exactly what you want to do, and what I described earlier is how you manage it.

The problem with the sensor switch is that if you move away from it, it will turn the sliding wall back to the OFF position or moving back in the other direction depending on how you have it set.

Its kinda hard to describe in words but lets try again. This is assuming you want you wall to move to the right and that you are using a piston.

1. Create a magnetic key with a magnetic lock on top of it, separated by a single dissolve material. Think of it like making three of the same sized blocks on top of each other. On the top you have attached the key, the middle is made of dissolve, and on the bottom you have the mag switch. when the dissolve is destroyed, the key block falls down onto the switch block and triggers it.

2. Set the magnetic switch to control the direction of the moving wall.

3. Your wall should now be moving to the left, but since it is at its base position, it will seem like it is not moving.

4. Create a sensor switch.

5. Assign the sensor switch to the dissolve material between the magnetic key and the magnetic switch.

Here's what will happen.

Once you move within range of the sensor switch, it will dissolve the materials between the magnetic key and the magnetic switch and drop the key onto the switch. This will cause the wall to move in the opposite direction (i.e. begin to chase you).

The purpose of this, is that the sensor switch will only keep the wall moving will you are in range of the sensor. Doing it my way, once triggered, the magnetic lock and key will stay together no matter if you move away from the sensor switch or not since the material between them has been removed. Because they stay together, the wall will continue to chase you until the very end.

The only thing else you need to do is to make sure that the maximum length of your piston is the right size to go all the way to the end and that you make the time value high enough that it moves slow enough that you can actually succeed in getting past it.

Hopefully this makes more sense now.

And it does work as I have used that exact method to make the dogs chase you on my Prison Break level I made for my wife. :D
Oo, I understand now. I got it to work, for the most part anyway. There are still a few kinks to work out.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions about it. If you get to a sticky part add me to your friends list and I can show you online how to do something. Most of the time it's easier to show than describe how to do something.

I have 4 levels left to ace. Then I can just worry about getting all the 2x, 3x, 4x stuff and what ever else I need in that level. Even though I have alot of 2x stuff.
what use is the new free costumes? i don't have the game yet, getting it this week
Give you more options to decorate your sackboy with? Free is free.

Check out the SkullDozer level in The Wedding for an example of this done right. They don't dissolve, but they are destroyed, so MM's solution is to have the checkpoint slide along in front of the Dozer. When you die, you drop down in front of it again and continue the obstacle course.

Could someone please let me what this is? I picked it up at Best Buy.

Is this the Nariko code? I thought the original card says Nariko in-game costume but this new card says "custom theme" instead? Did Best Buy just come up with another LBP DLC?

That is not what mine looks like eau, but they may have just given you a premium display theme or something? Enter the code in your psn store and see what it does.

Well, I renamed my level (and characters). Changed it to "The Lost Vessel" and Isaac is now named Rokak (lame name, but couldn't think of anything close to Isaac). I'm very sad that I had to change everything, but I feel like it being called Dead Space would keep it from getting to the front page of Cool Levels.

But I really feel like now that Media Molecule(MM) is done with their game, they aren't looking back. It already feels like their servers are slowing caving in on themselves and they don't seem to be providing feedback. They are kind of treating it like a Single Player game, but its more of a MMORPG style game; it really depends upon the Online.

Also, MM just seems to take the easy way out, see a level that MAY have a chance to provide licensing problems, just delete it! Problem solved! All I am saying is, I don't feel the Media Molecule LOVE I was expecting getting into this game...

(Side Note): How come on my level "The Lost Vessel" (aka Little Dead Space) I cannot see the 'tags'? Both my other levels I can, but cannot seem to see them on my new one... is it a bug? Did I do something wrong?

And to CHIBIJOSH, if you need any help or anything I can help you out: I can give you a bunch of my trigger switches I have made.

DarknessBear... I have a hard enough time platforming normally, doing it in the dark makes it 100x worse for me :) j/k. Interesting level :)

DarkNessBear- your level is beyond good. Everything about it is outstanding. The zero g area is my favorite, next to the beginning in the ship. I'm in awe. Dead Space is one of my favorite games and your level totally captures the feel of it (without infringing on any copyright licensing!)

Lol, I think you are playing "Winkle and the Stolen Stars". That was my first creation in the Beta... I can't look at that anymore!

I made sure to make the darkness in Little Dead Space as an atmospheric effect not a platforming one.

To SamHain; yea, thanks a lot! All these kind words makes me excited to work on my second project (not Dead Space 2 =P )... but we'll see, if Media Molecule keeps it up, I'm just gonna leave LBP all together.

I just got LBP and a PS3 last night great game so far what should I be trying to do besides collecting stuff? Its been taking forever to download the update so i been playing it un updated guess i should update to go online right?

DarkNessBear - Your level was pretty awesome. It felt pretty short, but all the effects were insane. Especially the part at the beginning. Good job.

Yeah, that true. I'll have to think about that too.

DarkNessBear - Your level is amazing. Probably the best level I have seen yet.
Just wanted to make sure you were aware that two of your text displays are being censored. The one right after the elevator and the one right before the zero g segment. I had the same problem in one of my levels (it was censoring "data analyzation" because it contained "anal"). It's pretty frustrating that it doesn't let you know this ahead of time in create mode.

DarknessBear- My favorite non-original IP level yet. Awesome.
MM hasn't taken many levels down which leads me to believe that they are only taken them down if asked so by the original copyright holder (as per the Digital Millenium Copyright Act). So unless EA sends a takedown notice you're Dead Space level is safe. Just call it Dead Space (and it's character Isaac) and if it gets taken down you can always republish it from your moon with a different name. Cheers!

Haven't really played any user created levels yet i've been focusing on getting 100% on all levels first.

Just wanna say thanks to the few CAGS ive played with to obtain some of those 2x,3x,4x items.

Also is anyone else having problems when playing online.

It will tell me a new person is joining and they never do unless i restart the level or if the middle of a level i will get the verifying server host message and a failed to load game message and then i gotta shut the game off and back on to play agin.

If anybody gets a chance, play my level and let me know what they think I should do to make it.... much better so that people will play/heart it :)

It's called "The Beach" and by no means comparable to Dead Space, since that one just owns everything. Tied for my favorite level with the Gradius level right now :)
