It looks like the conservative family groups (you know the type, the ones who want to outlaw all sex except for purposes of procreation, and even then no thrusting or movement of any kind) are joining forces to stop net neutrality. For those of you who missed the memo, net neutrality is government-mandated equality for all legal internet content. It's what makes this site load as quickly on your computer as Kotaku, or eBay, or Google.

Well, the family groups don't want any of that equality stuff! They argue that net neutrality is an open gateway to objectionable content, citing child pornography as an example. The only problem with that argument (one could call it a "lie") is that child pornography has NEVER been legal on the internet, and net neutrality does not protect it. It seems pretty obvious that the "objectionable content" they want to get rid of is the old-fashioned, legal, find it under your dad's bed when he's not looking kind of porn.

Here's their game plan. The family groups first equate all porn with the illegal stuff to get support for their cause. Then they lobby to defeat net neutrality so the ISPs can block access to porn sites. Then they raise a stink with protests, boycotts, and campaigns to make the ISPs block access to porn sites. Then you have no porn, because the whopping two ISPs who offer broadband service in your area have blocked it and you're too embarrassed to complain.

If you love America, freedom, apple pie, and a chance to give yourself a stiffie after coming home from work, I suggest you fight like hell for net neutrality. Here's where to start.

ISPs make maybe $15 profit per month. Anytime that customer calls in and speaks to a representative for 10 minutes, the ISP makes no money on that customer that month.

If a repair tech is sent to their home, the ISP makes no money on that customer for at least 4 months.

All of these companies pushing speed limits and download caps are shooting themselves in the foot and drive customers into the arms of other providers because customers do call about anything no matter how irrelevant.

Hah, no worries. I've spent the last ten years of my life gathering porn in preparation for something like this. With the amount I have now, there's no chance I'll ever run out!

I can just imagine a closet filled with pristine server stacks and triple-redundant RAIDs all to make sure the porn is safe (and outside the closet of course all the empty pizza boxes and soda cans).

LOL

But, it they set up the porn police to raid your home, then you won't be safe. Maybe in addition to our ingenious and highly effective war on drugs, we can also start a war on porn!

...but since it's too hard to go after the big guys in the industry (who probably just kick back money to the gov't anyways), maybe we can just fill up prisons with "porn addicts."

If they take away porn, I'm moving to another country.

Not that I have a stance on porn either way, but it's a ridiculous thing to do to it.

It's amazing that these people ever procreate, i'm surprised they don't do it like in Demolition Man, no physical contact.

I'm surprised they didn't complain about the way they did it in Demolition Man.

Oh wait...

You've already got your dolls brah. Don't get greedy.

I don't want to be "they came for the porn people, but I'm not a porn person, so I said nothing."

C'mon chu, if they took the porn away think of how desperate some people would be to see something, anything fucking. Even dolls! That's money in your pocket my friend.

This is terrible. Just think, no more free porn. Future generations won't have access to internet porn! How are they going to know what fetish turns them on if they can't see them all? Who cares about the damn environment, show these kids some boobs!
fuck that, I'm becoming a PORN BARON. Who else is gonna deal porn on the streets?
Its Al Caporne!!

I couldn't help myself.

My brain was reduced to a somewhat viscous liquid after reading this thread.

In theory, isn't allowing something to not be accessed on the internet considered a breach of Freedom of Speech/Freedom of Press?

Sure, our forefathers never imagined we would have broadband speed porn, but still, that's a bit ridiculous.

Yes. It's not "Freedom of the Press" if you let a newspaper print a story, but then force them to store all the copies of that day's paper in a warehouse and not let anyone read it.

I am not worried what so ever, porn cannot be defeated...its that simple. And as a previous poster said, even if for some reason iv got terabytes worth of the stuff to last me the rest of my lifetime.

I actually called my ISP today to inquire about boosting my upload and download speeds, and to reduce the ping time.

I'm so sick of laggy online gaming and host advantage. Player skill is one thing, but when winning is 50/50 chance due to your ISP, it's time to optimize bitches.

Do you work at the SEC?

I feel safe on this issue, knowing what Anonymous did to Australia after the prohibition of small-breasted women images.
