It looks like the conservative family groups (you know the type, the ones who want to outlaw all sex except for purposes of procreation, and even then no thrusting or movement of any kind) are joining forces to stop net neutrality. For those of you who missed the memo, net neutrality is government-mandated equality for all legal internet content. It's what makes this site load as quickly on your computer as Kotaku, or eBay, or Google.
Well, the family groups don't want any of that equality stuff! They argue that net neutrality is an open gateway to objectionable content, citing child pornography as an example. The only problem with that argument (one could call it a "lie") is that child pornography has NEVER been legal on the internet, and net neutrality does not protect it. It seems pretty obvious that the "objectionable content" they want to get rid of is the old-fashioned, legal, find it under your dad's bed when he's not looking kind of porn.
Here's their game plan. The family groups first equate all porn with the illegal stuff to get support for their cause. Then they lobby to defeat net neutrality so the ISPs can block access to porn sites. Then they raise a stink with protests, boycotts, and campaigns to make the ISPs block access to porn sites. Then you have no porn, because the whopping two ISPs who offer broadband service in your area have blocked it and you're too embarrassed to complain.
If you love America, freedom, apple pie, and a chance to give yourself a stiffie after coming home from work, I suggest you fight like hell for net neutrality. Here's where to start.
