Lost Planet - Discussion and Hype Thread - UPDATE: Map Pack #3 Free Aug. 16th.

http://blog.lostplanetcommunity.com/blogs/brian.php/2007/07/16/p365#more365

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it could mean a revival of Lost Planet. Perhaps we could get a CAG LP map game going?

It seems to be real as if you click the 1up link or so, it'll bring up a capcom page that warns that you're leaving an official page.

Edit:99.9% chance of being real.

Although that's for PC version, it will probably mean we'll get it on the 360 like Rainbow 6 Vegas got maps for free to coincide with the PS3.

if all the maps become free, I'm buying this one again. I need a good online shooter that doesn't rhyme with "way low"

The patch has been stated for July release many times by the community manager Sven. I hope it's dated as the 20th(though the post seems to imply it, and state more about the PC one.) I am glad the maps that just came out aren't free. It bothers me that unlike most games they didn't say "free in 4 months..." Hell the game has only been out since January, so these things didn't stay pay for very long.

This has been like 5 months in the making since they broke the online to boot people like crazy in the lobby, not to mention the lag is ridiculous. I would love to be able to play again and actually not get angry when someone intentionally lagging stands there when I shove a dozen rockets into their face only to turn and kill me by missing.

I'm disappointed by the models...I'd rather some things that are a bit more themed. They are clever, but very out of place. I'm guessing we won't even get them since it only mentions them for the post.

There was also a rumor of raising the level cap to 150, which would be nice since I am tired of being 99.

I could use more content to keep me interested till the upcoming big months.

wow, maybe I'll wait until after the patch

How do you like the 8-bit level? It looks really cool.

It's pretty fun. The thing is a fucking maze though. There areall these teleoporter things that look like posts and you have to figure out which ones go where, and the wrong ones will send you in circles. there are some cool parts where you have to like grapple from block to block to get accross a big drop. As close to platforming as you are gonna get from LP.

I'll probably start playing this, because of the free maps... but I wish the multiplayer wasn't so ridiculously unbalanced.

Why do you think it's unbalanced Brak?

I'm trying to educate myself here, it's probably becuse I can't recognise things like this that I'm so poor at online multiplayer games.

I'm down to play tonight. I just beat the single player and I'd love to get in some multiplayer matches before I throw it on my trade list.

I don't really consider it unbalanced, with the lag exception mentioned before. Then again I don't play the luckfest shotgun matches, and our regular room is generally rockets so people won't be mech-whores.

Post Grab sorta levels the playing field and deters campers a bit.

Oh, and technically 5 maps will be free, since the Collectors Edition map, Battlegrounds, is now free.

A nicely balanced FPS/TPS title has "rock, paper, scissors" mechanics, where - no matter what weapon you or your opponent has - there is a way to defeat him -- this game, in most instances, doesn't adhere to that.

Not to mention that the hit detection is sketchy, at best.

Is Frank, from Dead Rising, a playable multiplayer skin with one of these map packs? I saw a screenshot with Frank in it.

and...no patch. Downer. July is almost over and it was promised for July. Common Capcom, if you wait till a game comes out you'll lose the few regulars that are left.

Yea just read that on teamxbox's site. Cool I didn't get the third one yet but have the others. I got Worm Hunter the other day, wooot.

Community Manager over at the LP forums says the patch is in MS Certification, so hopefully the network problems and lag will be fixed soon...

Not getting my hopes up though, since this patch was promised for July and August is almost over.

Patch coming Thursday:

In the on-going support for Lost Planet, Capcom have sent word that they will be fixing any network issues that some may have experienced with the option of different connection methods. It seems complicated, but if it works it shouldn’t matter.

There are three connection types planned, and is selectable when you create an online match:

[Default] - This is the standard setting regardless of upload speed.
[Pattern A] - This is more suitable when your upload speed is fast. Try this if your connection is unstable with Default.
[Pattern B] - This is more suitable when your upload speed is slow and your connection is not stable with Default. Try this if your connection is unstable with Default.
It seems there will be some experimentation needed before you can properly work out the right one for you. Hopefully this won’t prove too time consuming though.

Capcom do warn of problems though. It seems they are preparing for the worst in case some people who play through the launch of the patch don’t download it. If this happens, look out for:

Glitches with screen text
The game stops progressing at certain screen.
Disconnection (disbanded mission, etc)
This shouldn’t happen for too long, but if you do meet some players without the patch, give them the heads up so the whole community can play happily ever after. Tell them to sign out and sign back in again to get the patch.

I really hope those are only the UI features, and not all of the features. It better fix the lag, and especially the people who intentionally lag.
