Lost Season 4 Discussion - Because You Left

Did anyone else thing Alex looked different in the last episode? I thought it was a different girl, but I looked up her IMDB.com profile and it says she was in the last episode; wow she changed a lot within the past year.

In other news, I started playing Lost: Via Domus recently...while the gamer in me screams about some of the choices the developers made (very linear gameplay, some really crappy substitute voice actors), the Lost fanboy in me is thoroughly enjoying it (being on the beach after the plane crash, encountering the smoke monster for the first time, walking through the woods and hearing Michael yelling "Waaaalllllttttt!" in the distance).

Anyone else take a crack at it?

Ha. You posted that at 4:20 P.M., at least by how I see the board's time (not mine).

I played and beat the game a couple weeks ago, and unfortunately, it pretty much sucks. The graphics were better than I expected, the attention to detail was usually impressive, the voicework, as horrible as it often was, usually didn't distract me, but the game experience (to call it "gameplay" would be borderline farcical) was just incredibly lackluster. As I was playing it, I swear I visualized frizzy-haired fortysomething women who'd never played a game before sitting there just thrilling over picking up a water bottle or running from one marker to the other in the jungle, incredulous that their plump fingers were actually making it all happen!

That said, I still recommend any fan of the show play through it once as cheaply as possible. Scorewhores on the 360 will get a very easy 700+ points on one pass (I got 840 will minimal effort and exploration), and it's kind of cool to visit the locales and see it through to the ending, which may or may not be a very important general revelation for the series (apparently Lindelof wrote it to replace the Ubisoft ending that he hated).

Unfortunately, this series is so inherently conducive to making one of the best licensed games ever, not in the sense of having Ninja Gaiden-responsive controls or challenge, but instead based on the show's own sense of mystery and its presentation across multimedia formats as an ongoing game for us to figure out. With a little faith in the audience* and a lot more care and thought invested, this could've been the kind of game that one could just dig as deeply as he or she wanted to and still want more. As it is, you just want to get it over with by the halfway point.

With the game going for $39.99 at Best Buy this week, I have to wonder how well it's selling, but I'd like to see them take another shot at this series with a game that coincides with the premiere of the final season. Make it deeper, guys. Or make a game about Radzinsky. You know the post-series 'expanded universe' shit is coming regardless, folks.

*--No, really, the puzzles completely suck.

Check out LOLLost for a laugh.

Thanks for the review, JollyDwarf. Yeah, it seems to be tanking pretty fast, which is good for me. Definitely will give it a crack at the $20 range, which no doubt will be by summertime.

So is it sort of like Myst, an exploration adventure type game? Do you actually get guns and ammo, can you blow away Losties? Don't tell me you just fetch/refill water and just look at the various locales from the show but don't do anything interesting or critical.

They should have made it possible to play as an Other (I would spend all my time trying to kidnap Kate, Sun, Juliet, oh and of course Shannon, or at least make them strip), or switch sides, go off on your own, etc. The mention of it being "linear" really makes me say "uh oh".

You get to use a firearm in a very limited capacity.

The only way this game can compare to Myst is the last two letters.
That's still at least $10 too much for me.
Same. I'm either gonna wait till there's a 20% off used 360 games coupon (making it around $30), or wait till it drops to $30 & get it used for $25.

Two-hour, two-week finale becomes three-hour, three-week event with break in middle; Grey's cap also stretched an extra hour.

Lost must be feeling a little bit like its time-jumping Scotsman Desmond right now. It's on one week, off for another few weeks, is getting rebroadcast with "enhanced" versions at other times--a bit confusing in the space-time continuum of television scheduling.

"You kids stay off my lawn! Don't tell me what I can't do!"

And things just got a bit more complicated--probably for the best for Lost fans. As rumored last week, ABC has approved an extra hour of Lost this season, extending the series to a total of 14 hours for season four, according to E! Online. The program was slated to have 16 hours of run time this season, but complications from the writers' strike lopped off a few episodes from the schedule.

For Lost fans, more Lost trumps any other small inconveniences, so an extra hour of the sci-fi drama this season overshadows what ABC had to do to squeeze the additional 60 minutes.

The final two episodes are being branded as a Lost three-hour finale, with one hour on May 15 and two hours on May 29. Why no Lost on May 22? Apparently Lost masterminds Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were able to convince the network that the final two hours of this season had to be shown together.

In making the arrangement, Lost--which begins airing at 10 p.m. when it returns April 24--then bumped its final episode a week, presumably to move up to the more viewer-friendly 9 p.m.-11 p.m. slot.

This, in turn, opened up the May 22 10 p.m.-11 p.m. time period, which ABC has decided to use to add another hour to the finale of Grey's Anatomy. A two-hour Grey's Anatomy season finale will now air that night after the one-hour Ugly Betty season finale.

An extra hour of Lost at the cost of another (short) break between episodes--is it worth it? More Grey's Anatomy! Comment below!

the 2 hour finale starts at 9pm....they will air the previous hour at 8pm, so in theory you will be able to watch the 3 hour finale all together

Oh man, great idea. But can one handle 3 hours of relentless mindfucking?

I thought it was outrageously lame. I love the show, but jeeeeeeeez they just didn't even try. You have to shoot what...3 times in the whole game? Run away from a few things? Complete like 800 fuse puzzles? Ughh. It took me 4 hours start to finish.

Ok, so I read tha the semi-major character who gets shot execution style tonight is
Desmond
. Please, for the love of God, tell me this isnt true.

You guys know what Widmore Meant when he said "You took it from ME", right? He must be the founder of Dharma & when Ben led the Purge, he took the island for the "Hostiles".

Everythings starting to come together. Lets just hope they dont f it up. Looks like Lawnmower man saves them in the next episode.

Yeah, Widmore must be the real owner of Dharma, mafia style, with a front which is probably that mysterious Hanso dude. Or maybe that's why Ben can't kill Widmore, because Hanso has more power than all of them combined even if he's just a front. I get the feeling Widmore is just the funding wing of Dharma.

Very, very disappointed with the death this episode though. I'm heartbroken. Those posts above can rest easy. It wasn't Desmond.

just a fantastic episode.

i am shocked that they killed off alex. at least we know desmond isnt going anywhere, theres been a lot of talk about him getting killed off. but with widmore being a major player and ben pledging to kill penny, i cant see him leaving. however i am sad because it looks like Rousseau wont be coming back, with alex dead she really doesnt have any reason to come back. so much for my locke Rousseau love story fan fic.

daniel seems like hes gonna crack, he just keeps slipping a little here and a little there, hes a push over when jack questions him.

as for ben and the smoke monster. it seems odd that ben would control the smoke monster when they have that huge fence that can hold it back. maybe he can communicate with it and they have a mutual understand about the people coming to the island or something like that. then again, maybe he does control it.

we still havent seen the others at the temple, you figure they gotta be somewhere doing something.

RAMSTORIA
Rousseau can't be dead. She's officially supposed to get a flashback according to the show creators. That's likely the whole point Danielle died. Flashbacks seems to only be triggered by events on the island. She'll find out her daughter is dead and that will result in her long-awaited flashback, possibly followed by a successful suicide mission. We can finally see how Montand lost his arm! ;)

I love this show, but I swear if it ends with Ben killing Penny, it will all have felt like a waste.

Desmond and Penny NEED to survive and be together.

Also, I've never felt more neutral about a character than I do with Ben. The writers do such a good job of making you switch back and forth about him. Half the time it's hate, the other half it's sympathy.

Is that feeling neutral? Neutral would be similar to being apathetic toward him. I don't think that's what you're saying.

To echo others, last night was fantastic. I hope more stuff is revealed in later episodes. So far this season has done pretty well in keeping the fluff out.

I guess what I meant was that I go back and forth between like/dislike for his character so much that, if you were to average it out on a scale of like-->average-->dislike, I'd be firmly in the middle.

I fucking love Ben. Definitely my favorite character, probably followed by Sayid and Locke. Ben's just always got a card to play, no matter how down and out you think he is, and he's such a twitchy dude that you just never know what to expect.

Great episode, btw...although in the teaser for next week Kearny was there, so apparently the smoke didn't get him. How unfortunate. Maybe Ben'll get to execute him :whistle2:D

Yea I got a thing for that chick. I bet Malcolm put it in her middle.

i am very surprised they actually showed Dannille's body buried like that...i thought for sure she would have somehow survived

OK, I am really starting to think JAcob can be whoever he wants to be, and the reason he was invisible to Locke in S3 is because Ben knew who he was, so he didnt need to take on an image, & Locke thought been was lying therefore he didnt see anything.

It was just a bit uneventful compared to last week's massive one, plus there's more mysteries added in that don't seem as important. I think it was just a cooldown episode, because all of them can't be balls-to-the-wall or it would be too hard to process a show already intentionally hard to process.

'Touchy-feely' episode, but this show's apparently obligated to have at least two a season, so I can cope with that. Also, it pounds us over the head again and again that Kate has "got a great ass!" (The cute kind, not the Sir Mix-A-Lot-favored kind.)

I was actually really impressed by Jorge Garcia this week, too.

For whoever watched (and rewatched) the teaser for next week's episode,
is it me, or is the dead Dharma hippie dude Jacob? If you look for a screencap from Jacob's first 'appearance' last season, the hair and the profiles seem to match.

i think this was probably the weakest episode of an otherwise stellar season.

all we learned this episode is how jack got hooked on meds, charlotte speaks korean (WOW!!!) and that miles can still hear dead people. oh, and the spoiler below.

at least next weeks episode seems pretty good. i tell you though, i dont like the new 10pm time slot.

well thats one possibility. the other some people dont die. for instance ekos brother yemi appeared after his body disappeared. same with jacks dad, body is gone, showing up around the island.

The guy in the preview who says, "I've been dead for 12 years" is Horace Goodspeed. He's the guy who came across Ben's parents on the day Ben was born, and brought Ben and Roger, his father, to the island.

Regarding the Jack/Kate flash forward, from Lostpedia:

By virtue of the Yankees/Red Sox and Indians/Mariners scores in the newspaper article, only one date is viable for the publication of the paper: August 31, 2007. Article states Yankees finish their sweep of the Red Sox with winning pitcher Cheng Mei Wang beating Curt Schilling 5-0. The only occurrence of this game is the date above. Whether this is meant to be canon, or simply a production oversight, remains to be seen.
