LOST Season 5 Discussion - 5/13: The Incident -

Thanks for the response. Really loving this season, though I'm sure if I didn't know the series was ending soon I probably would have said "fuck this" once the time travel started. Knowing there is an end has given me and my wife a chance to really appreciate the show more.
Or neither, & it is about the Purge? I really doubt its the Purge thing, because that would have to happen at least in the 80's.
Ugh...once again, "The Purge" occurred at 4pm on December 19th, 1992, which happened to be Ben's birthday.

I was just trying to explain this same thing to my family and they didn't believe me.
i didnt know that. When did they say the year/time?
Back in 2004, Locke had a dream/vision with Horace in it. In that dream, Horace said he had been dead for 12 years. If he wasn't lying, or there was some other trickery, that would make it occur in the year 1992.

We know it happened on Dec. 19th, because that is Ben's birthday, and he explicitly stated that it was his birthday before he killed his dad. Also, I believe we know it is at 4PM, because he looked at his watch and that is the time we saw on it.

a lot of people seem to get "the purge" and "the incident" mixed up. i think this season is going to culminate to "the incident". the purge doesnt happen for another 15 years, and we already know that story, they might not go back to it.

for those keeping track,

"the incident" involved the swan (which is currently being built) and is mentioned in the 2nd season in the dharma training videos. theres no year mentioned or what the incident is, so theres a good chance we will find out what "the incident" was this season (i think).

"the purge" is when ben wiped out all the dharma people using the poison gas thats on the island at that one dharma station (seen in season 3 and the gas is eluded to in season 4). as mentioned above that doesnt happen for another decade. now personally, i dont think the losties will be with dharma for that long (15 years), my guess is they stay in this timeline until they get back to the present OR the show is resolved.

Ben was in his 20s when he killed everyone? Some reason i thought he was a little kid when it happened

also how do we know the person who got killed was the BEN that did the purge could been another kid..

or Ben could of died and they named another kid Ben in his honor...

Or Ben could been killed and dharma attacks the others.. Remember that one dude said there was a

War COMING and you have to be on the right said to locke

there was no war before and i got to wonder if the Dharma people will attack the others cause they think they killed BEN..

Ben will be alive in the future do to some #$#$#$#$# up time rip thing or some crazy thing like that

next weeks is called. what happened happened or something like that if no 1 said that yet

the APril 4? its ben and the smoke monster LOL I hope they go on a dinner date

i wonder if Clair is dead in this time line that is why we never see her anymore.. clair died in childbirth on the island .... Aaron becomes the new Ben???

That one dude who is trying to be the leader on the new crash site.... I say he is the new person looking for the island cause how does he know so much about it..

I say ben is dead... That is why Locke is alive.. Ben never killed him..... Locke was to be the new leader of the others but he failed the test when he was a child.

Ben is dying of a gun shot wound in the new crash site,, this could be who the others were shooting at when swayer (sorry spelled wrong i know) were on that raft type thingie and new people were shooting at them (when the island was still time skipping)

What ever became of SUN's child. Who did sun leave the child with while she went back to the island (or will she even have a child in this new timeline)

Eithen (sorry if spelled wrong) is the new ben .. He wipes out the camp.. Jack and the others crash on the island they kill him (when he was trying to kidnap clair) and that is what starts the so called upcoming war

I still say Season 5 ends when this War thing begins

Im still sad : ( that we still have not seen the dragons... (season 2 hatch lockdown map says DRAGONS ARE HERE) meaning the island could of time hopped before ..

did they ever say what was up with the numbers

EDIT DO NOT READ PAST THIS LINE FOR A SPOLIER

seems ben is not dead since he disappears from the village thinking the others came back into the villiage and takes him on APRIL 15 show
Who was Alpert talking about when he said "I don't answer to either of them."? I missed that part.
Charles was one (assume that's Widmore). Didn't catch the other name...maybe Lily?

I think he said Elly (the girl daniel told to bury the bomb). I also think "Elly" might be
Eloise Hawking, Faraday's Mothere.

Yes and yes.

nobody should be surprised that ben is going to live. but i find it very funny that jack thought he could change things by not helping ben, when in fact him not helping ben is what caused him to become an other.

i also enjoyed when sawyer told kate how it is and said that hes helping her for juliet. ouch, that must have stung for kate.

my big question is, where the hell is sayid going to go now? he wasnt with the others, he cant come back to dharma. maybe he will find the losties like rose & bernard.

I'm just glad Miles didn't get shot. I was seriously expecting a "Artz" or "Frogert" style sudden death scene. "BANG!....whoops"

I just saw the most recent episode and I can't get the image of the creepy-looking Claire look-alike (the lady who found Aaraon in the market) out of my head. Bizzaro Claire?

I found it funny how Hurley was able to stump Miles as to why Ben didn't recognize Sayid in the future. Of course, we get the answer at the end of the episode.

It seems like Alpert taking Ben in is the beginning of the rift within the Others. Widmore vs Ben/Alpert/Ellie. Also, why did Alpert recognize Ben's name? Was it because Locke mentioned him when he met Alpert in the past? Did Locke even mention Ben then? Otherwise, why would have Alpert reacted to the name Banjamin Linus?

That episode made me feel bad for Roger. The scenes with Kate and him were great. First moment you see him approach Kate and you expect him to be some total sleazeball to her but he was a decent person overall.

I liked how to people who have killed in cold blood (Kate and Sawyer) wanted to help Ben but the person who saves lives (Jack) wanted him to die. Me thinks Jack is going to be the next evil person on the island. He's trying to act like Locke but a much crazier version.

Oh and a Ben storyline = win.

Well, the theory that the Losties' kids come back to save them has a new name to the list: Clementine. That little army is growing fast.

Anyone else think Locke and Ben are half-brothers?

Barring that, anyone find it creepy than the actors who portray adult Ben and Ben's mother are actually married in real life?

I said the same thing to my wife. It's really incredible what a douchebag Jack has become. He's just going to sit and pout because he's not in charge anymore. He comes back to the island with the intention of "saving" everybody. Then, he finds out they've been doing just fine without him. So he throws a hissy fit, and refuses to help when he can actually be useful. What a fucking loser.

Why bother paying celebrities millions to be in one episode when u can just use people related to the cast. She pretty much just needed to show some stress, lay down, and die, so it was a fairly simple acting gig.

My mom's watching some Nora Roberts Lifetime movie right now, and it features Emilie de Ravin in a starring role. That can't be what she missed season 5 for.

Oh, fuck yes!

Spoiler reguarding the Season finale's central character
The episode before the finale is a Richard flashback, while the season finale is JACOB!! WOOT!

You ever see Nip/Tuck?

The actor actually playing the kid dates the actress playing his mom.

booo, someone bring back jollydwarf. I enjoyed reading his Lost posts.

can't wait for tonight's episode!!

Don't spoil me, but if the finale is Richard or Jacob that will be stupid and I will be pissed.

IIRC didn't Emilie miss this season because she was for-reals preggers?

Tonights episode was alright when compared to the last two episodes. I was kinda hoping they would explain a bit more about what the smoke monster is. Other than having a recap of Ben's life I think the Ben we have all "loved" is now going to be second fiddle to Locke.

Even the shift of power was apparent when Locke came into Ben's office and not only sat on his chair but to leaned back and put his feet on his desk. Locke was trying to let Ben know that Locke is in charge now.

digged tonight's episode. Second to "The Life and Times of Jeremy Bentham" in my book. Season 5 has been merely ok besides those two episodes....

I've been a little underwhelmed by the last bunch of eps but I thought tonight's was generally pretty satisfying. I still think the smoke monster is stupid, mostly because the special effects are fucking terrible.

I'm happy that
Penny and Desmond are OK
, though.

That was one of the best episodes this season. Badass Locke, Ben going all gangsta on Caesar, all the flashbacks, the smoke monster... I loved every minute of it.

I pretty much feel the exact same about this.

BTW, nice to see a fellow pest around here. Liiinnnngeeeer loonnnngeeeer!

Good episode. Found the ending a bit anti-climatic, wasn't really much of a judgment I thought.

I'm digging the season, but some things are getting old. The shows at it's best when all the regulars are together, so having the split story lines is getting a bit old.

And as the norm for the series, the answers are still slow to come, which is getting concerning if next year is truly going to be the last. But oh well, I've always assumed the ending of the series would be a let down.

That's just completely wrong.

Jack didn't refuse to help Ben because he's grumpy about not being in charge. He refused as Ben has been an evil, manipulative prick that's caused them nothing but trouble and he wanted to let him die so he wouldn't grow up and become that man.

2 questions..

wonder why they let eithen live (know that is spelled wrong)

I wonder what they did with all of the children when they took the,... it showed little kids walking though the woods i think in season 1 or 2 (one was dragging a bear) they never did show where all the kids are or why they grab them. (my guess is the others cant have children??)

i thought it was a good episode.

im very glad to see that penny and desmond are ok.

i smiled when ben shot cesar, though i thought they might take his character a little further. i guess theyre doing it with the other ajiras now. not sure what they have up their sleeve but i think well see walts dream come to pass soon.

also, i think its safe to say that the statue is anibus after looking at the hieroglyphics in the chamber that ben was is.

what was the code phrase they were saying.... what lies in the shadow of the colossus?

Are they talking about the smoke monster?

And what's the box they are messing with?

I thought the Anibus / Smoke monster pictorial was nice.

What's the reason for the pool of water? and the smoke monster summons, how does it know?

Do not question Ben's magic toilet under his house.

Solid episode, couple of surprises (Des getting shot, Cesar getting shot), and a decent way to show Ben's story. Looks like next week's episode is about Miles and his ability to "talk" to the dead - I think it'll start getting interesting.
I guess its safe to say that it was Ilana & the other Ajiras that were shooting at Locke, Sawyer, Juliette, etc on the canoe things.
i dont think thats true because the lost gang, as far as we know, were only travelling in the past, not in the future.
i dont think thats true because the lost gang, as far as we know, were only travelling in the past, not in the future.
It has to be the case that they traveled to 2008 or after the Aijira plane crashed because they found the water bottle with "Aijira" on it.

I'm really excited about the next episode. I've always wondered "WTF is Miles still doing on the island?" They haven't used his ghostbusting abilities except to find dead bodies.

I usually don't post in this thread since it seems most people's LOST knowledge here is far beyond my own. That being said, a couple of questions/clarifications...

1) With the heiroglyphics of the smoke monster and anubis, combined with the "destroyed" statue, can we assume there was a war between the two and the smoke monster won? Also, just conjecture, but I'm guessing the question "what lies in the shadow of the colossus" has something to do with that.

2) Desmond was shot. Yet, he was just fine. Wtf? A bag of groceries stopped a bullet?

1) interesting idea, I seen it as that the smoke monster works for Anubis. Anubis is the keeper of the underworld, guide of the dead, and the smoke monster is the holder of the dead and judgement... and said protector of the island... like Cerberus is...

2) I'm guess that he was hit in the side so it only grazed, I thought I seen a small rip/blood maybe not, or he was probably packing alot of cans... going through multiple cans may stop a bullet.

(Plus it was sloppy work, I would think Ben would know if it killed him or not, to make sure, but Desmon wasn't his target... so he wouldn't care if he was dead...)

All this shit with the temple is beginning to draw me into the conclusion that the island will be revealed as the "Atlantis" or some bogus shizz like that.
