LOST Via Domus - Gen. Discussion & Info
When does this game take place chronologically with the show? I've only really watched since Season 2, I only know S1 from reading online stuff. I added it to my gamefly queue today because it looks interesting enough to give it a shot.
Yeah I haven't finished it, but events with the main characters occur at the same time as stuff with your character. You would be better off watching Season 1(which is free on ABC's website in HD I think) than playing this game IMO. I'll probably stop playing it on PC, and just wait till the summer and finish it on the 360 for the achievements.

You'll be fine. If you watched season 2 and figured out what's going on in the show, the game won't require any additional knowledge of season 1. You are aware that there was a plane crash? You're all set!

Welp, just finished the game. Cant believe that they're charging $60 for this game. I guess they expect the name to carry it. This is a rent at best. I beat it in around 6hrs and the only replay value seems to be the achievements (which nearly all take little to no effort).

I guess I shouldn't have expected too much considering its a property based on a tv show, but they could have at least put a little more effort into giving the full "Lost" experience. The voiceactors do cause a bit of a distraction, Locke sounds like a Samoan guy.
So, any good story details revealed in it?
Nope, though wierdly enough it does coincide with the episode that aired this week. But i guess that was probably planned by ABC.
So, any good story details revealed in it?
And to add to the other's "no" the producers said the game's story isn't cannon, so it's not meaningful at all.

finished it, overall pretty disappointing. as a game by itself, it's crap.

as fan service, I enjoyed running around the stations (Swan, Pearl, Staff, etc.) but that's about it. I do appreciate the actors who DID do voices, Sun, Claire, Ben...I think that's it.

the rest was pretty dull.

trading is pointless (I think I used a total of 3 bullets) and the character you play is a complete asshat.

The "cripple" line when he looks at the wheelchair is kinda stomach churning. Is your character an asshole for calling people cripples or are the game designers assholes for using that term in the game?

glad I only spent 8 bucks for a blockbuster rental.

I got this game for free. A local radio station was giving them away at my friends school. I'll give this game a try this weekend... Glad I didn't have to pay anything for it

I hate glitches...i was in the middle of episode 4 and missed an achievement so i went to main menu and completed it from the episodes section. But when you try to go to Episodes or Continue, u can't do Episode 5, excellent!

This game is unfathomably bad. As a hardcore LOST fan who loves all the ARG's, I wouldn't even suggest renting this game. Just pretend it doesn't exist. The gameplay is like getting kicked in the nuts. To add insult to injury, the story proceeds to totally distort the characters (
Locke helping someone get off the island? Wha?
) and architecture of the show. -And don't even get me started on that horrible ending because it really doesn't work on any level and pretty much contradicts most of the established mythos.

I even feel dirty for having the 1000gs in my gamer profile.

They padded
Locke helping the main character off the island
by having Locke speak heavily of the importance of carrying out the island's wishes -- and that being the island's wish.

Even still, the story kinda stunk, and there were parts that made me cringe. Such as
Sayid giving you the passenger manifest in order for you to find your name on it, and prove that you were on the plane -- this logic made me slap my forehead
.

The ending was surprisingly decent, however.
I really like this game, but it was really short. I say it wasn't 6 hours, more like 10 or so. It has an adventure type feel to it and some parts are pretty creepy. I thought the story was pretty good too.
Hey, sounds good enough to me. This and Lost Odyssey are the only games so far this year that've really excited me (actually I don't know of ANYTHING else this year I'm interested in...aside from Spore, like that'll actually ship ;) )

Brak: I know the game isn't canon, but the island did want Michael & Walt to leave too... so maybe Locke is right about it. Also, you don't remember the shit that happened with Ethan not being on the manifest in season 1? That's where the idea comes from.

Idk tho, I haven't played the game myself yet -- I've only seen some gameplay over at DarkUFO.

This game is bad, i dont know why they even bothered adding the trading. There was only one instance that i had to buy fuses, and you don't even need to buy a clip for the gun, there are barely any hostiles to shoot. This game is really only worth a rental to Lost fans or someone looking to boost their GS.
Also, you don't remember the shit that happened with Ethan not being on the manifest in season 1? That's where the idea comes from.
That's not my point.

Why would you give someone the manifest and say, "Here. I'll let you into the hatch if you can find your name on there." What's to stop you, if you were sinister, from asking around the camp, feeling out who's dead and merely picking a random name on the list?

He shouldn't have given you the list -- it was just stupid...

Who are you brotha? What am I doing here? How do you know my bloody name!!

While I freely admit that I all but shut my mind off while playing this,
I don't recall being given the manifest. I thought Sayid had the list the entire time.

It could have been my incredibly low expectations, but I kind of liked this game. I think it was worth the ~$22 I paid at GameStop yesterday, especially considering it's still valued at 950 points on Goozex. If you ignore that it could have (and should have) been something great, it's at least worth a rental for LOST fans.

Yeah, actually, defiance is right. Brak is talking out his ass. There are definitely things you could complain about with this game, but don't steer people in the wrong direction with your ignorance.

Anyone paying attention would notice that Sayid doesn't ever give you the manifest (otherwise why can't you look at it in your objectives/journal?) He tells you to figure out your name, tell it to him, and he'll check if that name is on it.

Having said all that, I got this game from yourfree360games.com, and I actually enjoyed it. It was really short, and wasn't very difficult (some of the fuse puzzles were a little tricky), but I enjoyed being "in" the show. It's definitely more of an adventure game than an action game...and if you look at it this way, and you're a fan of the show, it's a pretty good time.
I enjoyed being "in" the show.
Except for the fact that whenever any character from the show opens their mouth you are pulled right out of the game/"show."

Eh, I thought the voice acting was overplayed in many reviews. Yeah, it sucked, but it wasn't any worse than what you hear in most games. They weren't that far off from the actual actors in the show, and while GameSpot's reference to Locke as the old prospector gave me lulz, I don't know if I would have ever heard that on my own.

I actually thought the voice acting was fine. What sucks is that once you finish this rather short game there is absolutely zero replay value, it might as well be a coaster. That's OK for a rental, but purchasers are screwed.

Well since you had to prove your identity, picking a random name wouldn't work.

Damn, dude. You're just too cool.

Sorry man, just sayin. You were so adament about proving "your point". And your point was wrong...

First off: I wasn't adamant about the issue at all.

Lastly: In retrospect, I could have sworn Sayid's bit of dialogue was something like, "Here. Take this manifest." I checked a YouTube walkthru, and I see I'm wrong.

No need to be condescending and insulting there, tiger.

defiance handled it with class. You, on the other hand...

I went to Wal-Mart today (had a gift card) to pick up Lego Indiana Jones. I saw that they had Lost for $29.99. Seems to be a permanent drop. $30 was the magic price point for me, so I bought it along with Indy.

Well, I've tried simply renting games from Gamefly, and both times I had 10 day trials, I never received a single game despite living not far from L.A. After that, I personally wouldn't buy from them. That's a good price for a used copy, though.

odd. i find that they don't usually screw you until you become a paid customer.

Haha... Well I didn't lose anything since it was a free trial. I'm just saying I *personally* wouldn't buy from them for fear that my paid order would go missing. I know many others have had good experiences with Gamefly, though.
...they've also been selling it at gamefly for about 18 dollars.
I'm hoping it's $10 during the next gamefly sale, that's about as much as I'm willing to pay for it.

I'm probably one of the biggest Lost fans there is, yet I can't seem to get excited about this game. Likely because theres so many other great games out there. Maybe later.

I would have had more fun with the game, if they took out all the "game" stuff and just had a 1 hour story.

Someone should start a train to send this game around. Once you've played thru it, the disc is a coaster. No replay value.
I would be down to be in a train ;)
You may want to change up that first part. People can use that in a bad way. :D
I would be down to be in a train for this
wooh...slow down dude.

Whats up with the ending? Anyone care to shed some light?

Also game is very short and pretty much unplayable if not for the Lost tie-ins.

I don't understand how any Lost fan could dislike this game unless they knew nothing about it going in and thought it would be a simulation of the show's main storylines with all the main characters playable.

Knowing what I was getting into, it was really fun. I started and finished it today with 1000/1000 achievements (a first for me), but it was more than worth the $30. I'd have paid $40 happily. It started off slow, but ended up offering a great, engaging story and I was thoroughly entertained for the 6 and 1/2 hours I spent playing it.

Anyone saying it's the worst game they've ever played must not have played very many games. I'd give this a 7/10. The only way it'd be lower is if you're not a Lost fan. And if you're not, why would you be playing this?
I would be down to be in a train for this game.

porieux, since it was your idea maybe you should start it ;)
Heh would be nice I do not own the copy I played.

Thanks for this! Makes me even more sure I've got to try it. (Honestly at this point I'm mostly just waiting to see which version to buy, and waiting since I have 90 bajillion other games...but I have to play it before the next season starts!)

I continue to be floored by the show. IMO EVERY season has just blown away the prior season. Every season sort of "opens up" and expands our understanding of what's going on, and makes what came before seem so limited, like just a tiny sliver of the big picture. I mean I just finished Season 4, and it's...it just blows away the rest of it, and I keep thinking that after every season!

And on the other side of the coin...

I'm a huge Lost fan and have no problems admitting the game is crap. That's assuming you could call it a game at all. They did a good job of giving it the feel of the show with the "Previously on..." and flashback moments but that's all for naught when everything else is piss poor and shallow as it is. Don't go in expecting to learn anything that you didn't already know either, because you won't find it.

All you do is walk around and talk to the Losties and that would be fine and dandy if they had some decent voice acting. Every time someone speaks it pulls you out of the experience. Couple that with the fact that there is only a single puzzle in the game that you do over, and over, and over again. Nevermind that it isn't a fun puzzle the first time, let alone the 10th. You waste time collecting items and trading for weapons/kerosene that you never use. Oh yeah, you trade for guns with Sawyer and have 100s of rounds of ammo, yet you only need 3 bullets the entire game.

They had some decent ideas and the game could have been something special, but it needed another year in the cooker and some heavy focus testing. Lost: Via Domus makes the King Kong game look like a triple-A title. It's barely worth a rental and nowhere near the $30 value Matt makes it out to be above. Less than $10 is what it is really worth. It's only a 6 hour game for crying out loud and not a very fun 6 hours either. You can even watch the entire game on YouTube. That's how short it is.
