Eh, I definitely got my $30 worth even though it was only a 6 hour game. The first 30 minutes were somewhat boring, but after that, I enjoyed the whole thing.
And on the other side of the coin...
I'm a huge Lost fan and have no problems admitting the game is crap. That's assuming you could call it a game at all. They did a good job of giving it the feel of the show with the "Previously on..." and flashback moments but that's all for naught when everything else is piss poor and shallow as it is. Don't go in expecting to learn anything that you didn't already know either, because you won't find it.
All you do is walk around and talk to the Losties and that would be fine and dandy if they had some decent voice acting. Every time someone speaks it pulls you out of the experience. Couple that with the fact that there is only a single puzzle in the game that you do over, and over, and over again. Nevermind that it isn't a fun puzzle the first time, let alone the 10th. You waste time collecting items and trading for weapons/kerosene that you never use. Oh yeah, you trade for guns with Sawyer and have 100s of rounds of ammo, yet you only need 3 bullets the entire game.
They had some decent ideas and the game could have been something special, but it needed another year in the cooker and some heavy focus testing. Lost: Via Domus makes the King Kong game look like a triple-A title. It's barely worth a rental and nowhere near the $30 value Matt makes it out to be above. Less than $10 is what it is really worth. It's only a 6 hour game for crying out loud and not a very fun 6 hours either. You can even watch the entire game on YouTube. That's how short it is.
I'd tend to agree with this. Via Domus is a really, really below average game with a story that pales in insignificance to the writing of the actual show. Whereas Matt would say "I don't understand how any Lost fan could dislike this game", I find it really easy to see it the other way. I don't understand how any Lost fan could like this game.

Pretty much agree except IMO the voice acting was adequate. I've heard so much worse in games I have a hard time criticizing it. I couldn't care less that it wasn't the original actors (though a couple are). That part definitely didn't spoil the experience for me, so YMMV.
It's still kind of amusing for a Lost fan to be immersed in the world, even if it is lacking in pretty much every way.
I just grabbed the game for about 20$ on ebay, and have been playing it for about an hour. The only voice acting complaint I have so far is Locke. When did he become native American?

So I finally got around to unwrapping the copy of this that I bought at CC for $14 a few weeks ago. The game is pretty cheesy as most people have said. However, being a Lost fan, I have a big gripe. I'm not sure if this has been covered previously since I haven't read through the whole thread, but it is when
Elliot first runs into Ben and Juliet and Ben tells Elliot that he may be the One. Following the show, this just doesn't make much sense, since they were first testing the children, and then he thinks Locke is the One. At this point in the storyline in the game, they know very little about Elliot. It seems like they just tossed it in to have an encounter with the Others.
I guess I'll have to give this a try pretty soon, before the fall season starts. That aspect you just mentioned does sound gratuitous. I'm really looking forward to this though!
The last few seasons are going to be shorter, that's why it starts in Winter instead of Fall. I think part of it is so the finale is timed to be around May Sweeps. Rather than start in fall and miss out on ratings opportunities, they start it late.

I beat this game several months ago, but I found this interesting as well. My take on it is this.
Basically, throughout the game, Elliot takes on the role of SEVERAL different characters from the show. As soon as the plane crashes, he's Boone, running around helping Jack. When everyone questions his honesty and if he's an "outsider", he's Ethan. When he and Kate are all flirty, he's Jack. And then, yeah, when he seems to be such a pivotal part of the island, he's Locke. There are probably even more, I just can't remember. I did find myself constantly thinking "that's just like..." with Elliot though. So I at least felt it was intentional.

Another reason is that people were complaining about the season being split with 8 episodes in the Fall and then a 2 month break with repeats before it picked back up. Plus, they sometimes would do a new episode and then a repeat, then another new one. So they now start at the end of January and run straight through. It makes the show easier to follow in my opinion.
If you're looking for a lost supplement, you'll be very disapointed. If you're looking for a compliment to the lost universe, here it is. Gameplay and Story are somewhat mediocre, but playing it yourself in a universe you know is pretty fun. The game's plot is pretty drastically different from where the show is heading though...
There is no fall season. The show comes back in late January/early February.
Thanks for the info! I think I actually prefer this. The shows I like best are all like this-Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Terminator, etc. where they're really continuing stories, so maybe running them more continuous will be better.
And in the mean time I always have Netflix to get to catch up on other shows
At any rate, now I won't worry about playing Lost until late this year.
Lost was like hat this past season 2. Smallville will run from September-May, likely with 3-4 weeks off in the middle. Not sure about Terminator. They only ran 9 episodes the first season. I think season 2 is set to be 13 episodes.
Are you sure about Terminator? That's not just what was ordered so far? I'd expect a full season unless it was cancelled. It was pretty awesome even though half of it was shot without the producers there to do their thing/rewrite, etc. Probably worse than it would have been, but still excellent, so I can't WAIT for next season! (I got a call from my mom yesterday actually-she saw what she described as an awesome preview for next season and she can't wait either.)

I really hope that Heroes redeems itself this next season. Season 2 left a lot to be desired.
Back to this thread though. I had a glitch last night while I was playing it. I was in Episode 5 and walked up to Kate and got stuck in place. I couldn't do anything to get free other than exit the game. I ended up just playing the Braid demo instead. I'll probably go ahead and finish up the game this weekend and I may go back for a few of the easy achievements that I missed.
I *LOVED* season 2 EXCEPT that they cheesily finished it off. It had such an awesome setup, but then they threw that all away I guess because the network demanded they wrap it up and pretend that was a whole season before the strike.
I wish they had just left it the way they were going to leave it, and finished it after the strike-like most shows did.
The previews for Season 3 look awesome too...not that that's a surprise!
Which version of Lost were you playing?

Ehh Season 2 wasn't affected by the strike. Season 4 was.

You have no idea what you are talking about. As pointed out the strike was last season, season four. Also it wasn't 'wrapped' up because of studio pressure. They did squeeze 8 episodes of material into 6 but ABC actually gave them an additional hour to play with for the finale.
What are you talking about? Season 4 and 5?
Season 4 only lost, like, two episodes because of the writer's strike btw.
EDIT: But there are no season 5 previews. So I don't know what the you're talking about.
Guys, I was responding to someone talking about Heroes, not Lost. Lost didn't seem to be affected too badly by the strike. He was talking about how much he hated Season 2 or whatever of Heroes, but Heroes they had this awesome setup, then caved to network pressure to just wrap it up in like an episode or two. It was completely abrupt-well down for what they had to do-but just a waste of an awesome 6+ (?) episode setup.
But hey, you're still wrong. Heroes Season 2 was always meant to be split into two "volumes", "Generations" (before the winter break) and "Villains" (after the winter break). So what we saw of season 2 was barely effected by the writer's strike, except the end of the final episode.
Originally, it ended with Peter not stopping the virus and Nathan collapsing due to it instead of being shot.
The strike had nothing to do with season 2 of Heroes being one of the worst excuses for television ever.
I could not possibly disagree with you more about that. IMO that was one of the best seasons of anything ever, regardless of the strike or how it ended. Not THE best, but right up there (I mean Heroes, or Lost, or Buffy, or whatever at their WORST are 10,000x better than most shows at their best).
Are you 100% sure that wasn't truncated? Because I even read that it was from producers, and it sure seemed to be. AWESOME setup, and then really, really abrupt end. It's like a 6 episode (or whatever) complex setup, and then like 1 episode to all of a sudden try to finish it all off.
The part I hated about Heroes Season 2 was the whole thing with Maya and her brother. They wasted a ton of air time on several episodes dealing with them and her brother constantly running around screaming "Maya! Maya!" Yeah, I understand that it setup Sylar getting his ability back but they were annoying.

Yeah, that was just shitty writing.
Heroes Season 1 is one of my favorite television seasons ever. But Jesus, was season 2 atrocious.
-Peter and Hiro both spent way too long in Ireland and Japan, respectively, doing nothing interesting at all.
-The Caitlin storyline.
"Oh Caitlin I love you so much. Oh, wait, you're stuck in post-apocalyptic future #2. Kthxbye."
-Sylar spent half of the season doing nothing but riding around with the Wonder Twins and killing super-minor characters.
-The Wonder Twins. They were totally boring and spent half the season just driving to the US, Maya spent the entire time crying, then demonstrated her idiotic bitch skills by suddenly falling in lovez with Sylar, the most obviously evil character this side of the comic book universe. Then they
kill
the one likable half of the useless duo.
-The storyline with Micah and his Katrina Kousins was boring. The only likable part of this cast additon was the grandmother, who didn't get to do anything while his younger cousin acted like a idiot-douche and his older cousin got involved in another stupid writing blunder.
She has all these crazy-awesome moves that she's learned with her mimicing power, and when she gets captured, she...barely struggles as they carry her away and tie her up. Wait, what.
-Nikki's story was even worse then her S1 story. She was barely even there.
Oh, here's another annoying personality. Oh wait, she's gone already. Here, you're dieing. Oh, heroic sacrifice. But it doesn't matter becasue you're back for next season anyway.
-West. This kid can't act his way out of a paper bag ("MR. BUTLER. WHAT ARE YOU DOING."), and spends half the season being a creepy-ass stalker before Claire just falls in love with him. Speaking of which:
-Claire acts like an insufferable little bitch the entire season. Her family gives up their lives to keep her safe, and what does she do? She goes out with the Amazing Flying Douche and uses her powers to pull pranks and get her jollies.
-The characters all became idiots for the neccisty of the story. After having it drilled into our heads last season that Hiro can't change the past, what does he do? Tries to change the past. Does Hiro use his ability to, you know, STOP TIME for everyone but him and Peter to explain to Peter why Adam is Bad News Bears? No. Claire seems to totally forget all about her father's job within The Company so she can get all outraged about it. Peter stands there, racing aganist time to open a safe, when he has the ability to phase right through it.
-They ended season 1 with DL dieing from a bullet wound, then brought him back....to have him
get shot by some random guy.
Why even do that?
And so on. And honestly, from the Comic-Con spoilers, things aren't looking up.
Mohinder and Ando get super powers? What? Nathan and Niki's dramatic deaths are totally undone? Nikki has another personality?
Even though I still enjoyed it and will be picking up the blu-ray I have no complaints with what JS Preston typed up, he is correct on all of them. My biggest gripe of the show in general though is that the first half of season 1 focused on a half dozen people with abilities fitting in with the real world. By the end of season two, there are maybe two characters who are normal human beings(Mohinder & Claire's mom). All superheroes all the time isn't that interesting. They need to mix it up again.

Ahh, my apologies.
Wolfpup is correct on this one. Heroes was truncated. Producers were even given the option to come back post strike for a couple episodes but the creators of the show decided to cut their losses and start fresh for season 3 since season 2 was brutally hammered. It didn't get going until the last couple of episodes and that's when they decided to just wrap it up.
FWIW, there will be two unfinished episodes on the Blu-ray release of season 2. I'm not sure if it is included in the SD release.
With this game only really representing two-plus seasons, I think there's certainly room for one more LOST game before the series wraps. Now if they'd only treat the average player of the game as the average intelligent fan of the show, as opposed to watering it down so some obese, eight-cat-having, bespectacled, Sawyer-crushing librarian can somehow use her plump digits to stumble her way through the whole 'experience' (seriously, this game was made for a kind of non-gamer that even the Wii intimidates). But it's Ubisoft and it's a licensed game that can't fall back on the action element, so we all know how 'cerebral' it would end up being. As opposed to should.
Not really sure why the supplemental entertainment for this show, from Bad Twin to this game, is so incredibly lame. You would think that even when LOST is bad, it's pretty good. Actually, it ends up really, really bad.
P.S. Anyone who thinks that the second season of Heroes is quality television either gets off on fetish porn featuring Hispanic girls crying until their eyeliner runs, or embodies the concept of masochism. Then again, we are in the Via Domus thread....
Did anyone have a serious glitch in this game? I beat Episode 5 and it took me to the opening screen. Now it's making me go through Episode 5 again. I can't get to 6.

It did it again. I was actually enjoying this game. I have no options now, right? I mean, I beat Episode 5 twice and it won't let me move onto 6. This really sucks.

I hate bugs like that in games. Always makes me wonder how they can possibly be play testing them.

360. I googled for similar experiences and didn't come up with anything. My brother-in-law had the game and his went through without any glitches. Reallly weird. I was racking up the cheese, too.
Huh. There's some method of forcing the 360 to delete it's game cache from the hard drive, but I'm not sure how you do it-some button combination. I wonder if that might help?
Got this for a song from Newegg last year and just played through it last weekend to get psyched up for the final season of LOST. In general, I liked it more than I thought I would. Some likes and dislikes:
LIKED
Exploring the Dharma stations. Best aspect of the game, IMO. The ones we knew well (Swan) were accurately rendered with lots of cool details, while ones we didn't get to explore as thoroughly on the show (Pearl, Flame, Medical, and especially Hydra) were really cool to see fully fleshed out.
All achievements obtainable in one play-through, and not ridiculously hard to get. I wish more games, especially plot-driven games, would do this.
Flashback camera mechanic.
Decent voice acting.
Music
DISLIKED
The plot, or lack thereof. Utterly pointless, both on its own terms and in relation to LOST canon.
