Madden 06 In-Game (Xbox 360) Footage *CRINGE*
I love how people are making assumptions based on a game THAT STILL HAS 2 MONTHS+ OF DEVELOPMENT TIME NEEDED. I don't recall this being a big issue when Perfect Dark 0 looked like garbage on that MTV special. Oh, but this time, it's EA.......I get it.
2+ months of development left? What world are you living in? Games need to be essentially finished 6 weeks before their street date. 3-4 weeks are spent going through Microsoft's QC process, then another 2 weeks for disc mastering, production and distribution. Based on today's date there are maybe 3 weeks of actual development time left and even that's pushing it.

We haven't seen any real footage of the game in awhile, and with EA's event scheduled for the next few days, we'll finally see how long its come since the BK trailer. However, should it still look like a steaming pile of dung, don't kid yourself thinking there are still months of development time left to fix it.

I doubt it will look like a "steaming pile of dung". And even if it doesn't look like what you would expect a Xbox 360 game to look like, as long as the gameplay is there, that's all I care about. Maybe EA is actually trying to create a launch football game that improves on the A.I. and actual gameplay than the graphics, something that NO system launch football game has ever had (NFL2K was filled with A.I. holes, as was Madden 2001). But thinking like that would mean giving EA the benefit of the doubt, which nobody here is willing to do for some god forsaken reason.

Please excuse me for not thinking the sky is falling because of a low res Burger King promotional video. Yes, you read that right, you people are going crazy over what basically amounts to a Burger King commercial.

How about these then?
Well usually first gen games on a new system, come no where close to the potential of the system...we are just hitting the stride with the current generation...god of war, the new splinter cell etc...

You might be waiting for awhile
Wasn't Rogue Squardron 2 a launch title for the 'Cube? Rogue Squardron 2 is still one of the best looking and sounding games of this generation.
Wasn't Rogue Squardron 2 a launch title for the 'Cube? Rogue Squardron 2 is still one of the best looking and sounding games of this generation.
Well, there are certainly the exceptions (Soul Calibur on Dreamcast and DOA3 on Xbox come to mind), but the majority of launch games don't push the graphical capabilities of the system.
I agree with you, I too still think there is a lot of potential left with this current gen. Microsoft is just jumping the shark and I hope people who were duped last November with Halo 2 dont buy into M$ hype machine this time around.
Oh, shut the fuck up. You didn't like Halo 2, then that's you, but it did live up to it's hype.

For every new system that comes out, there's always at least one dumbass naysayer. Welcome the club guy.

While I don't think everyone agrees with Halo living up to the hype or not, I think this generation there is a significant number of people who are happy with the systems we have and don't want to be basically forced to shell out $700 to stay up to date with a new generation of consoles.

Well true, but if you are a gamer and enjoy it, you are somewhat at the mercy of the whims of the video game industry.

Those high res screens look just fine to me. I don't recall being able to see the reflection of the stadium in someone's helmet in the current generation football games. Not that I even care about that. As long as the game is actually a step up in the A.I. department than Madden 2006, and still has most of the features of the current gen Madden games, I might be interested in it.
I'm somewhat confused as to why half the fans at a Colts versus Bengals game are wearing yellow though. :)
haha I wondering the same thing
Looks great, but the skin on the dude's arm needs more work.
How often do you look at arm skin detail while playing a game? Honestly, who the fuck cares?

Game is still far from being done, they still have 2 months to work on the graphics engine and I assume they are concentrating on that since the gameplay, rosters, and other features have been finished a long time ago when Madden 06 was finished for the current gen systems. The game probably won't look like the trailer demo they showed but I have no doubt that it will look better than the current version for the Xbox. The 360 will deliver the goods on next gen graphics.

Actually, if this game is slated for a November release, they would have less than 2 months left to spruce that stuff up.

IGN has a new preview on the new changes and additions that have been added to the Xbox 360 version of Madden.

Madden equals money, so it should come to no surprise to anyone that of all the EA Sports Xbox 360 games, Madden is the game with the most money put behind it.

I'm talking head scans of 170 of the top NFL players to capture everything from the black eye paint on Ahman Green's face to the breathe right on his nose (there are over 1,500 accessories) to any scars on his face.

I'm talking voices of the real quarterbacks barking out audibles and hot routes at the line. That's right, with the help of NFL Films, EA Sports was able to capture 18 starting quarterbacks shouting their signals (as long as it's Kurt Warner and not his wife, I'm cool), so when a player like Carson Palmer changes the play, you're actually going to hear Palmer's voice giving the instructions while seeing a closeup of his face on PIP in the corner of the screen.

And to top it off, it's a Madden game without Madden. In fact, in a surprising (and refreshing move), there's no sign of Madden or Al Michaels calling the plays. Instead the game is left to a PA announcer and the grunts and groans of action on the field. You'll hear players like Ray Lewis talking trash (again, it's actually Ray's voice), helmets smash, and a biased home-town radio announcer who calls the game with passion.

madden-nfl-06-20051003001117227-000.jpg

In terms of the game's look, Madden 360 features three times the animations of the current-gen systems (there are now 5,000 total), and you can really see this evidenced in catching and tackling. Wide receivers now sport 140 catch animations (current gen is only 45), and receivers will now be able to use articulated hands and fingers to reach up or down, left or right while dragging their feet in bounds or trying to grab a throw before it hits the turf. And when a receiver does haul the rock into his body, expect to see a host of new tackle animations including gang tackles and body shivering shots so fierce you can actually see the runner wince in pain.

Also added to the game is a brand new play-calling screen. There is a PIP window where you'll see the coach, the quarterback, or even Madden himself if you have a question for him. On the left side of the screen is a list of options: Formation, Ask Madden, Ask Coach, Key Player, and Last 5 Plays. From asking Madden for a good play to run to hearing the plays in coach speak and NFL terminology (X right, 32 left), the choice is yours.

Other highlights include controls that have been changed to specifically utilize the 360 controller. Sprint has been changed to the right trigger, juke is now the A button, and depending how hard you press the D-Pad in conjunction with A will determine the kind of juke you perform. You will also see a motion-captured Ed Hochuli calling the penalties and throwing flags when you grab facemasks or rough up the quarterback.

In terms of Franchise play, there is no Owner mode in the game, but you can still take your favorite team on a 30 year journey to greatness, including breaking records and changing the official record books to inducting your players into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There are all new box scores for every game in franchise, making it easier for you to check up on stats for your games and which matchups you should exploit next time you play your rival.

One thing that has been missing from NFL videogames in the past is the feeling that the stadium was a character in and of itself. This will all change with Madden 360 as these stadiums are so spectacular, they even make dumps like Monster Park look good. No game has ever captured anything like the intricate level of stadium details in Madden 360, including everything from random moss-covered sewer drains to functional scoreboards to the actual views from any seat in the stadium (complete with thousands of 3D fans). That's right, if you have a season ticket, you can actually find your seat and compare views. It's that realistic. As is the new lighting, weather, and time of day features. Time of day now updates after every play instead of every quarter, and the dynamic weather will drop rain and snow as the climate changes, changing the intensity throughout the game.

And if you were worried about current-gen features and gameplay controls not making it into the next-gen Madden, you can breathe a sigh of relief as everything from the Truck and Hit Stick to Vision and Precision Passing are in the game. The only difference is that the Vision Cones will now be optional and turned off at default, but you will still be able to utilize the precision passing (throwing high, low, left, right) without the cones.

With the most intense player models we've ever seen, from the scar on Shaun Alexander's chin down to the red in Ricky Williams' eyes (okay, he's the Visine Ricky with white eyes, but I couldn't resist), Madden is a system seller, no doubt, and it looks like EA Sports is doing everything to make sure that Madden's not just an afterthought of people buying the system, but a reason to buy the system outright.

Money talks, and right about now, Madden is yelling louder than just about any other game out there.

IGN also has a few new pics as well:

I like a lot of the new changes they've made to the game, with real voices and getting scans of the players' faces to get all of the details. The new playcalling screen sounds pretty cool and all of the new animations is a nice touch. Taking out Madden and Al should be a nice change of pace since the announcing has generally been a constant flaw for the past few years.

I'll probably pick it up. I've played through the current XBOX version...almost 4 years through my franchise, time to trade that in and get the 360 version

What did you expect? They did the same thing with the graphics with PDZ the developers just need a little time with the hardware to be able to make the games utilize the capabilities of the 360.

It begs the question, why would they release screen shots of a game that people have high hopes for when they know that the graphics look crappy?

Probably to just generate interest in the game so it throws you off of what the final product will end up looking like. For example, everybody saw how PDZ looked on MTV to annouce the 360 but that was just a beta version that didn't have all the final pieces but since everyone has been waiting for a new PD game they just put something out to peak your interest in the game.

I guess I expect to be completely blown away by everything I'm shown since they think I should fork over $500 for something that really doesn't offer anything new in terms of gameplay except for prettier graphics. Yes, I know they could improve AI and put more enemies on screen or whatever but that's not what is going to sell the system to joe consumer. The recent Madden and NBA Live screen shots look about a billion time better then they have in the past...

I'm excited about the fact that commentary is now done by local radio broadcasts, so the commentary will be biased in your favor, or, against you. It's gonna be sweet to turn on the Packers commentary team, then beat them in the playoffs with the Vikings, just so I can hear them cry and complain.

Oh, and that screenshot of the snowy field (Invesco @ Mile High?) looks incredible. Notice how the field conditions vary depending on where the action is taking place. Finally, the snow actually covers up the field markers and yardage marks, unlike in every other football game, where you can still see the yardage numbers and everything.

Looks like I now have 5 Xbox 360 games on pre-order...

Did they actually get local announcers or are they just made up "local" announcers? I'm tired of listening to every national announcer call Bengals games because they have no idea what they are talking about. At least most of them are pronouncing Houshmandzadeh right this year.

You are correct javeryh that is why I won't be buying one until they are around 200 bucks because I have to big a backlog of Xbox and PS2 games so I don't need to deal with 360 until later down the road.

Well, I was going to give you a 360 since it's your birthday, but since you have that big backlog, it would probably just upset you having to deal with the 360, so I'll just keep it.

I am guessing it's just a voice acting team, and not actual radio play by play guys. That would be an insane amount of work and take up a ton of disc space.

I wouldnt expect Madden 06 to sell all that well on the 360. Not because of graphics, but because its been a few months since its been out for other platforms, so you'd think most people who were going to get it already have (and they certainly were sales leaders for a while, so a lot of people already HAVE bought it).

Madden 06 will sell extremely well for Xbox 360. People will either trade in their Xbox versions of Madden or buy this one in addition to the one they already own. They've made enough changes and enhancements to make this one intriguing to those that already bought a version this year. I'm not even a Madden fan and I'm starting to get interested in this because they are actually doing some different things with it. Football games always sell very well on launch day.

If the two versions have compatible save files somehow then I think people would definitely buy an extra copy. Plus, there's not going to be too many other games out there worth buying for the 360 at launch...

How can you afford to buy more than the handful that are coming out? :p

I mean I could afford it but still.

I don't know how you can say that when we don't have an actual launch list yet. At least wait until we get first impressions of games for the launch before making brash comments like that.

Well, unless something appears out of left field that no one has seen before then I think it's a pretty fair statement. Sure, some of the games look pretty but there is nothing that we haven't seen before. At least if you buy Madden you know what you are getting.

IMHO Madden 01' (I think it was 01'-it had Eddie George on it) that launched with the PS2 was probably one of the best launch titles ever. It was such a step up in football gaming and still hasn't changed that much.

What's on PS3 that you haven't seen before? Launch titles are hardly ever revolutionary because the devolpers haven't had a lot of time or experience with the system yet.

Nothing. The only system I'm actually looking forward to is the Revolution even though I'll still pick up a PS3 or 360 for "normal" gaming... It's about time someone tried something new...

Can we get the OP to change the title yet?

Madden 06 for the 360 looks damn good now. Passing cones will be an option not the standard, no more annoying madden phrases (i.e. speed kills, boom), an indepth franchise mode, new kicking meters, new play calling screen (system), all new game sounds...

Madden 06 may be the highest rated 360 game for 2005 if it lives up to the hype.

Not Madden, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread. What exactly is going on in this NBA 2K6 screenshot? Whatever it is, the fans are going wild.

Really looking to see some extended gameplay movies. Curious as to how the animations are playing out especially with the NBA games. They've just never gotten it quite right.

Funny, everyone tore into EA when they first saw the BK promo video this whole thread was based on. Where are these idiots know, when the game looks fantastic, in a build at X05 that isn't even the latest? Penny Arcade and their stupid Anti-EA bias look pretty dumb right about now.

Why do they look dumb? They were commenting on a vision of a game that DID look shitty. Now that it looks better, they have no reason to complain. I don't think anyone looks stupid, that's how capitalism works.

Its Dreamcast All over agian. Great looking first party and some third party games, but most third party looks like a little better looking current gen game. The next Gen will really get kicking with the other 2 consoles out, untill then xbox 360 is the DC of the cross over to next gen. Its not microsoft(same thing with sega) fault but the lazzy third party. With xbox360 Quake 4s 8 player multiplayer and iffy frame rate, it looks like xbox 360 won't be taking over the PC games

Seems to me that Oblivion and all the 2K and EA Sports games look a lot nicer than "little better looking current gen game".

And how can the 360 be the next Dreamcast? The DC had to follow the incredibly unpopular SEGA Saturn. The 360 is following the very popular (In America anyways) Xbox, and the fact that it's coming out way earlier than the PS3 will only make that Xbox name stronger.
