Madden '10 - Gen. Discussion & Info
Well it is out, what does everyone think? It is worth my $60 (plus $10 best buy card in return)?
Unless you have lots of friends you'd play it with, or are a hardcore Madden fan, I'd skip it. Not many major changes/improvements. It's more of a refinement of 09 in my opinion.

This seems like Madden's best year yet, but once NHL comes out, I would never play this... so I am passing.

I am actually trying to beat all the game I currently have, and get as many achievements as possible, before NHL comes out cause that's it for me.

is anyone else getting some weird glitches? I had one glitch where my opponents offensive lineman was just twitching and wouldn't line up to the line of scrimmage and it gave them an offensive penalty.

It also freezes for a second or two at certain times... I hope it isn't a bad copy...

I've played 1 game and I like it better than Madden 09 already- and I thought 09 was the best of the series. I'll need to play more than just 1 game (lost on All-Pro 17-10) to compare. Fight for the fumble is indeed executed horribly. If you're not on it in a split second, it's impossible to win.

I'll be starting my Packers franchise soon. In Superstar mode, I made a QB and got drafted by the Houston Texans. I've already played through the preseason.

Just to let everyone one for this years cheesemints you DO NOT HAVE to have it on ALL pro and 5 min qrt. It is at least those setting.

I have never even played on all pro or 5 min qrt since buying the game and I have unlocked a couple of the cheese already.

Yeah, it's horrible. I forced a fumble with AJ Hawk and Hawk went to grab the ball with no opposing players near him for 2-3 yards. It still went to a FFTF and I lost.

Thanks I was just about to ask that. Too bad the achievements aren't for Pro as I suck too bad to beat the AI right now on anything higher than Pro.

Will these unlock in 1 vs. 1 online? What is the default difficulty for online play?

Hm, something's weird. It says "Delivered" on Amazon/USPS when I look at my Madden order, but I'm pretty sure no package came in today. I'll just have to wait and see Monday before I call USPS to see what's up. And there's no chance it would be stolen.. so either mis-delivered or not delivered yet?

I would wait until Mon. The mailman probably just scanned it before realizing he couldnt/shouldnt leave it there. If its not there on Monday, call people.

First madden I bought since 07 (the Microcenter made it an easy day 1 purchase) and I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm not that good though, any tips for a beginner?
I'm not that good though, any tips for a beginner?
This. Especially could use defensive tips, like what the exact controls are on the R-stick for D-line moves (I hope this isn't an RTFM situation).

I usually find myself getting stuck on blocks as a linebacker. And on offense, I have issues running the ball on All-Pro.

According to the manual you only have a couple of things you can do on defense. Run fast, strafe, hit high, hit low and "assist" (whatever that does).

So for me defense is really hard and I find myself taking an outside linebacker who isn't assigned one on one coverage and blitzing a lot.
Is the wildcat offense in the game for the teams that used it last year?
The Dolphins have it about 12 plays total out of two "Wildcat" formations. The thing it sucks about it is you have to leave the original QB in it as a blocker/receiver so it cuts your options on the passing plays down by one. And the on running plays the QB's dont really hold their blocks to well, so if the run gets forced outside you have a free CB comming to slow you down.

p.s.
Is there a way to do subs on only 1 or 2 certain formations, and not have to do it for the whole depth chart?

The default online difficulty is All-Pro. I think that works best. I'm like you, losing on All-Pro solo, but ti's good for multi. You can earn those achievements online unless otherwise specified.

Are you sure about this? I believe there are some that don't require either, and at least half of them that require All Pro & 5 minute quarters. I just got all the achievements last night. Hardest thing to get is the 7 man tackle, which offensive players can join in to push the ball carrier and they count towards the 7. I just kept doing a FB dive against quarter > prevent defense so the FB would make it past the line real easy and then about 7-10 yards in he'd get gang tackled by a bunch of DBs. It took almost an entire game but I finally got it.

Wait there is actually a sprint button? Holy hell I got all the achievements without sprinting once on offensive or defense.

You have to choose "By Formation" though in order to see the menu. I'm guessing you can also do it in the options>coaching menu, but I've never tried to look.

Here's a question for you guys.

I haven't played Madden since 07 but I remember in that game if you played Superstar mode as, for example, a RB, you would still get passing or any other achievements that the CPU got for you.

Have they fixed this yet? I actually like to earn what I get and I remember playing that game and getting mad when half of the achievements were unlocked without me having any control over them.

Is there anyone else that is finding this game easy as hell? I'm using the Eagles (maybe they are just REALLY good this year) and am winning by like 40 points a game on all-pro which is what I ALWAYS play on in Madden. In my first two games I had 4 kick returns with DeSean Jackson. So I figured what the hell and moved it up to All-Madden, which I NEVER have been able to be competitive on and I'm fairing pretty well. I might try switching teams up to see if that makes a difference but I sure am confused about the difficulty seeming so easy.

Also this game rocks.

ncie analysis. Its cool that the formation is in the game but it feels a bit off when executing.

Also maybe i missed it but are they missing the wildcat play where you lateral the ball to the qb to throw downfield?

I'm dominating the CPU on all pro as well, I'm 9-0 on my franchise, held AP to like 40 yards and LT to 25 yards and the PF and PA, while I don't remember them, were a huge difference.

I'm thinking of trying MySkill since I read that's somewhat fixed or using that with a mixture of CPU sliders that I read on OS.

It does seem a bit off I know on the counter plays you always seem to clip the last o-lineman and it screws up the play. And there is no lateral plays back to the QB either at least not in the Dolphins playbook.

I'm really enjoying Madden so far this year. It has a few problems but nothing game-breaking to my knowledge. I am waiting to start a Franchise until this week's roster update comes out, adding Vick to the Eagles ect. The Superstar mode is almost getting worse with each year, they seem to take out a few features in it every year. It is still fun but not what it once was or what it could have been. I plan on trying a bunch of sliders from Operation Sports soon, I am not set on a real great difficulty right now (playing on All-Pro with no slider adjustments).

I'm so fucking pissed off at this game I'm ready to sell it right now. I can't fucking run the ball worth a damn, and I was getting 100-200 yard games with ease on pro with Matt Forte (rated 10 points lower) last season.

1/2 the time I try to run the ball this year (on pro or rookie) I'm hit in the backfield by someone who comes in clean. The rest of the time I get to the line of scrimmage, my blockers do one of 3 things: let go of their blocks exactly 1 second after engaging, shove the defender their blocking directly into my running lane, or run around like a fucking chicken with its fucking head cutoff looking for someone to hit. And those aren't wide receivers, their linemen, fullbacks, and tight ends that should know better.

I just spent over an hour on the practice field doing nothing but running plays on pro against the Packers and I got exactly 4 runs over 20 yards. In 4 preseason games, I probably averaged about 2 yards per carry.

Does anyone have advice before I fucking break this fucking disc in half?!

Adjust the sliders. I just had to as well averaging 43 yards per game with Willie Parker, something wasn't right. There are some great ones people seem to like over on OperationSports. Test them out to see what you like best.

Seriously, adjusting the sliders has made this game A LOT more fun for me just in the few hours I've done it, I highly recommend some of you to test out some of those sliders and find your best results.

What I'm doing is a mixture of MySkill and CPU sliders I found from OS. Here's the link to their Madden sliders forum:

The most important thing to do between the tackles is to be patient. Don't sprint until you've hit the hole. Also be patient in terms of just taking what the defense gives you. You'll eventually break one. Outside runs are crapshoots half of the time. Just be ready to cut back if something opens or so you don't lose yardage. Practice letting up on the turbo and positioning yourself to let your blockers pick men up.

What type of runs are you calling? I've found it really depends on the back you are using and what plays you are calling. For example I'd run Barber up the gut 90% of the time. I'd try calling more sweeps, stretches or a toss or two for Forte if you aren't already. This could help you out tremendously if you aren't doing this already.

If I recall correctly last year when Madden 09 came out everyone was saying the same thing about not being able to run. It may just take awhile to get used to the new system, or maybe just shake the rust off if you haven't played for a while...it'll come.

Yeah man, it really depends on the players ratings. Who are you trying to run with and what type of run plays are you calling and most importantly who are you trying to play against?

You already said it....this isnt last years game where every one magically posses trucking and speed. This year the rating have made more people play differently than the other maddens. Its not perfect yet but its a huge step in the right direction.

For example I play as the Titans, if I try to run Chris Johnson up the gut he will get crushed right at the line of scrimmage. If I call a toss or a stretch play its a whole different story as he can sprint to the outside faster.

On the flip side I can pound the ball with Lendale White up the gut and get 3 or 4 yards with his 99 trucking but god help me if I send him outside because he doesnt have the speed to get their before the LB do.

It sounds like you are not using your blocks properly and trying to force your way into a big run and forgetting that big runs are exciting because they dont happen that often. If you are trying to break a big run against the packers the first thing you need to do is to find where Hawk is standing and run your ass away from him because if you dont he will tackle you. Also make sure you are calling good plays against the CPU and not just HB Dives the entire time.

Its hard to give you advice unless you tells us who you are using and what plays you are calling. Are you using the the juke moves that are most effective for the player you are running with or are you just trying to truck stick your way through everyone? The mini juke is back and more people need to start using it to get behind their blockers.

Colts' Addai and Brown. They run lots of stretch plays in actual games. Will it also work in-game generally? I usually have the same problem where the ends are there right after hand-off and I get smashed in All-Pro. Just a few tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

This is something I wish was done in Madden 10, I know it's been done before. I want some kind of indicator to see where the defenders I need to avoid are on the screen when I pull up the routes. Especially CB's and DE's, I play my friend a lot who always changes his packages up so I have no idea where his players are.

Got my copy. For those who just want to play some quick games, add my GT and send me a message. I'll be on within the next hour. :D

No, not at all. I could dominate the CPU in Madden 09. Last night was the first time I won a single game on All-Pro in this game. But at the same time, it seems like Pro is too easy. Augh.

As for the running game, it was nearly impossible in 09. I like the realistic running lanes in 10 a lot, and the running game is a lot more fun, but I'm still averaging less than 80 yards per game with Ryan Grant.

As I originally said, I'm using Matt Forte of the Bears.

Any type of run, it doesn't matter. If I run a stretch/sweep/toss I'm lucky if I can get back to the line of scrimmage. If I run between the tackles I either get hit behind the line of scrimmage, at the line, or get anywhere from a 1-5 yard gain.

I never had the problems other people had with 09. Two seperate times on Pro (default settings) last year I set new single-game rushing records with Forte (first time the game froze with 2 minutes left and I lost everything.)

I know not to use sprint until in the open field that was introduced last year but on any type of outside run I have to use sprint to get away from the guys my linemen pushed in my way, or were too blind to throw a block on.

I'll try the sliders and see if that helps, thanks.

Edit: I'm using the right stick left/right jukes, right stick up, spins, stiff arms, and hurdles to try to avoid guys. I usually have to break 1 tackle to gain positive yards, 2 tackles to get 2-5 yard, and 3 tackles to get 6 + yards. Also 1/2 the time if I run where the play is designed I will lose 1-5 yards so a lot of times I have to try to cut somewhere else.

Yes I'm also aware I can use the right stick to flip runs that don't involve motion of the FB/TE, and that sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't. If I run to a side where I have more blockers than defenders, that leads to the blockers running around like a chicken with their head cutoff while someone comes at me clean that should of at least had a body put on them.

I use every running play in the Bears book except for Shotgun runs and WR runs.

Just made an epic catch with Ochocinco to with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. Freakin' split double coverage and made a spectacular catch 1v1 with the safety. He just snatched the ball from the safety's hands, it was awesome. I uploaded it the highlight, but the replay doesn't really do it justice. Just looks like a normal pass TD since it cuts short and doesn't follow Mr. 85. =[

Fight for fumble cramps my hands. I think I'm going to get carpal tunnel syndrome. =x

I must be blind but I don't see any where to adjust the human sliders. Help please?

Also, is there anyway to edit a playbook? The Ravens playbook does not have the Wildcat formation even though we ran the Wildcat several times last year (prob 2nd to the Dolphins).

To get to the player sliders just hit "A" when you are looking at the basic sliders for your player in the menus. It brings up sets of three more sliders for you to then adjust. It also took me a little bit to find that out haha. As for your second question I would also like to know the answer to this. The Bears don't have a wildcat either for some reason even though I personally witnessed both Hester and Forte running it in practice last week.

I feel your pain. I'm having the exact same trouble with running that you are having. I was playing on All-Pro in my franchise and McGahee would pull off -1 to 1 yard gains just about every time. Luckily in just about each game I was able to break one for at least 30+ yards. But still... there has to be something I'm doing wrong. I used to hold turbo immediately, but I've tried not doing that and it's almost worse. I feel like McGahee is hesitating and then boom the oline breaks down and I get tackled immediately.

I adjusted the sliders per Flyersfan's link and it only got worse. Here are some stats (estimated) from my game Ravens (me) vs. Steelers (cpu).

Flacco was about 48% completion rate with 1td and 1int and 247 yards thrown. I'm not too upset with these stats however, most of these completions are out on the flat. I literally had 2-3 seconds to throw the ball each play or I was sacked or got the ball knocked down.

McGahee had like 14 carries for 8 yards. He averaged less than a fucking yard per carry. WTF is that! I tried Ray Rice too and he was like 8 carries for 12 yards. The sad thing is he had two carries that went for 5 yards each! Flacco was my leading rusher with 1 rush for 21 yards on a scramble to the left where all my receivers went right.

The CPU on the other hand...

Roethlisberger went like 20-26... torching the Ravens D. He had pin point accuracy with his receiver always a step ahead of my player. It seemed like it was worse on third down. I don't remember, but they probably completed 75-80% of their 3rd down conversions. Me on the other hand, I completed 20% with probably a dozen three-and-outs since my run game sucked.

Willie Parker had 27 carries and 120 yards. Wasn't too upset with this but it still is a little out there considering the Ravens haven't allowed a 100 yard rusher in like 20+ games.

Sorry... kind of got on a rant there, but I wish I could make my games a little more realistic instead of this bullshit handicap the computer seems to have.

On another note, while I'm on a rant lol. There's a few other things that have been pissing me off with this game.

I know this has been mentioned but I'm sick of seeing the ref cut scenes. I don't need to see the chain gang come out every time I come close the first down marker. Once in a while it's cool, but it happens every other first down or so. Same with the goal line animation... I got stopped just shy of the goalline and out comes the animation. Tried to run it in, stopped, animation. Tried to run again, stopped, animation. Seriously... the same scene three times in a row?

Holding on field goals? In my franchise I've kicked probably a dozen or so field goals with the computer kicking some as well. On about half of them, they've been called back because of holding. What the hell? How often does a holding penalty occur on a field goal? Not on 50% of them, that's for sure.

There's more things, but I can't think of them right now.

I haven't had a chance to load madden up yet (been finishing a couple other games first), but for the people who are complaining about not getting 100+ rushing yards a game. Not counting injuries (I'm just doing a quick skim and not going deep into stats tonight), only 2 running backs had over 1600 (100+ average) yards a game. Adrian Peterson (1760) and Michael Turner (1699). Matt Forte only had 1238. Just a couple fun facts for the night. ;)

gamcreator, keep trying different slider sets. Don't give up!

If all else fails, adjust them yourself, especially the running game. Turn down some run d things for the CPU and/or turn up some run things for humans.

I wonder when the update will come to put that fucker Favre into the game. I was going to restart my franchise with tomorrow's update, but I need to be able to pound the shit out of Brett 2 times this season.

Will Vick be with him? Also are they going to take out Crabtree anytime soon? The guy isnt even signed and is planning on sitting out the entire year.
