The Bears received the ball to start off the game and put together a nice, lengthy drive that concluded with a Jay Cutler QB sneak for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The Giants quickly answered back with a TD of their own. A defensive stop forced a punt that led to another Giants TD, giving NYG a 14-7 lead.
The Bears managed to put together another nice drive, but the Giants held in the end forcing a Bears field goal with just 0:25 left in the half. I got a little greedy after this and tried to move the ball downfield to setup for a quick FG attempt. Unfortunately Eli Manning got intercepted and the resulting return left 3 seconds on the clock and gave the Bears a 55 yard field goal attempt that Robbie Gould nailed, giving the Bears two field goals in the last 25 seconds of the half. 14-13 Giants at the half.
The Giants drove downfield after halftime but were limited to just a field goal by the Bears D. After another defensive stop the Giants had the ball deep in their own territory when a
controversial call resulted in the Bears recovering a fumble following a Julius Peppers hit on Eli Manning. Even in retrospect I still don't understand how this wasn't an incomplete pass, Eli's hand is moving forward, the ball goes forward.
This gave the Bears fantastic field position down just 4 points. Thankfully a clutch Terrell Thomas (user) pick in the end zone killed what was a promising opportunity for Chicago. The Giants were able to burn some clock and add a field goal on the ensuing drive, giving them a 20-13 lead with just 1:11 left for Chicago.
Unfortunately Chicago was able to effectively and quickly move the ball down field. They were on the 7 yard line with just 0:03 left in the game. Jay Cutler dropped back, looked for an open receiver and when he was unable to find one,
ran the ball into the end zone for the game tying touchdown as time expired.
The Giants won the coin toss in overtime and elected to receive. New York was moving the down field well when
the Bears managed to record a crazy (user) interception that bounced off the defender's arms, then Mario Manningham's back, then was caught by the defense.
On the Bears first play of overtime, Osi Umenyiora came up with a clutch sack to give the Bears 2nd and 22. Two incompletions later and the Bears were forced to punt the ball. A solid punt return gave the Giants the ball already in Bears territory, but out of field goal range. On the next play though there was a HUGELY IMPORTANT face mask penalty on someone trying to tackle Brandon Jacobs, giving the Giants 15 yards and putting them within field goal range. B-Jac ran another ball 8 yards to set up a better kick, then Lawrence Tynes put the game-winning 39 yarder through the net for the victory.
Again, great game Eddie. Shit got crazy.
