Lol not easy by any means!!! I felt like Tebow this game with a little guardian angel on my shoulder. Opening play of the game, Ellerbe forced a fumble on the KR which I returned for a TD...that just showed what kinda game it was gonna be. Next possession...Giants completely picked apart my D for probably 6 or 7 first downs and scored a TD. Sat calmly in the pocket and picked my zones apart when I DIDN'T blitz, and found the open man quickly on short passes when I DID blitz. And had a good mix of runs to the inside/outside and utilized his 2 backs accordingly too. This guy is a damn good player...have no idea how he is 4-5 now.
Next possession I had a couple good gains on passes to my TE...but other than that, couldn't get much going at all. Also at least 2 or 3 dropped picks by the Giants' D on this possession alone. I was lucky to just get to punt the ball away. I dunno if it was the next possession or later...but finally I was able to make a couple plays with my MLB (interceptions) which I was able to capitalize into 2 scores given the good field position.
21-7 going into the half...and then I returned the 2nd-half kickoff for a TD, my first in at least 2 seasons lol. So half of my score was accounted for by special teams alone...and the other half came from short field positions after I intercepted the ball. I told the Giants this earlier, but if he was able to play HIS game the way he is comfortable (how he was doing it in the first possession by mixing runs and passes), there is no way I would have won. But instead, that fumble-TD and dropped picks early on from his team kinda dictated the pace of the game and forced him to pass more, which is how my team ended with 4 picks.
I'm not one to say "gg" after every Madden game merely because it has become commonplace...and I don't think this was a good game at all since I feel like the Giants got "Madden'd" pretty hard here, but it's good to have you in the league Matt (at least our 3rd Matt in here?). Definitely one of the toughest opponents I've played in the league despite the score.
I appreciate the encouraging words, though as we discussed, I still feel you would have made necessary adjustments and were the better player today, even without the 2 special teams TDs. I am definitely a player that needs to be in control of myself and the game in front of me. If so, I can manage to play decently. When I don't, it goes badly. I can't be a good player until I find a way to minimize the bad aspects a bit more. That is why I am 4-5.
Circumstances may have led to me changing my gameplan, but I still threw those passes and you showed your skill by picking each of them yourself. You are damn fluid with that MLB. After seeing Ray Lewis's numbers last year when I was merely spectating, I knew I had to watch out for his replacement this year. I still got suckered into throwing 2 picks to him. That is a credit to the defender. Also, I know that if the game had been different, your offense would have been more balanced and would have likely found more success.
Anyhow, here is to hoping our next matchup (if we get one) will be more competitive.
