I know it is impossible to substitute a WR into the TE position.

False
I have tried it before and I have never ever found a way to use the substitution method to put a WR in the TE spot on the line. That is what we are talking about. In my case Platt was in the slot and would motion over.

Not sure how you do your subs. But in game, When you pick a play, hit RB click on the position and scroll down. You can put tackles there too. But since we're not allowed to put wr there, doesn't matter much.

I know what you are talking about. Whenever you do the method you are discussing, I have found I am unable to put some players at the TE position outside of tight ends and tackles.

Hmmm, weird. I know I have the option to do it, I sub my rookie TE in often and Avant down to Jackson are always available. Gotta scroll past them to get to tackles.

Interesting. As I said, I have never put a player not a TE in the TE position. I guess I just have never looked to do it before.

We should lay out some concrete guidelines with manual substitutions...where do we draw the line? Putting a WR at TE sounds like probably the worst and most blatant violation to me, but how about:
1) putting an HB at WR (manually, not as part of a formation) - LV brought this up a couple pages back but no one responded to him
2) putting an HB at FB
3) putting a WR at HB - this one seems pretty harmless to me, and NFL teams do this from time to time anyways (Percy Harvin is the most notable example)
4) excessive use of an extra lineman in place of the TE for run-heavy teams - I know NFL teams do this fairly often, but it's always around the goal line...not as a team is driving down the field

I haven't seen the 4th done, but I was trying to cover all bases that might be relevant...

All of those are okay by me, though I don't think the 3rd is actually possible.

I don't think #1 or #2 create any kind of advantage for the offensive team, where the WR at TE clearly does. Running from the FB spot isn't easier than running from the HB spot, in fact it's arguably more difficult. And very few HBs are going to be better outside receivers than even mediocre WRs.

As for #4, you'll see it next week, since I do it myself and have for 2 years. The Patriots actually do it fairly often, and not just at the goal line, which is obviously where I get the idea. It certainly gives you a leg up running the ball, but it also gives your opponent a pretty clear signal that a run is coming.

just curious but is it ok to put ur number #1 WR in the slot using the hot swap? as in strong slots and stuff like that.

Yeah I have no issue with any of those myself. The 3rd is definitely possible cause Deuce had Eddie Royal as HB on a few different occasions in our game.

Unless you've been doing it for 2 years and nobody has noticed, lol. ;)

I'm amused that both leagues are having essentially the same discussion at the same time. I feel like we should convene a gathering or something, haha.

I really want to avoid saying "no, your #1 receiver should never be inside" because I think that is unnecessarily restrictive. But it should be done very sparingly. If you are BSETI and your #1 receiver is Welker, it's a different story, because he is a slot guy. But should Larry Fitzgerald be in the slot? Not often.

The bottom line is I'm weary of anything which creates an unrealistic matchup which you wouldn't see in real football. I really don't want to get to the point where we have to implement the same rule we use for QB hot-swapping. What would be super nice is if Madden gave you the information on how the offense was aligned before you called your play, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

Well that's on them. There aren't a ton of 300-pound TEs with numbers in the 60s in the league. :D

i was just curious to know the rule on that becuz i have alot of good WRs wasnt sure if doing strong slots and all that was against the rules or not since its practically the same as having them mixed around in the depth chart.

I believe we've been over this before. The position on it hasn't changed. It's not disallowed, but it can't be the default way you play. If someone were found to be abusing it, we'd need to revisit the stance.

There are some people I think walk the line on it as it is, so I'd really prefer the envelope not be pushed any further.

Yeah, but the camera adds 10lbs...
any one have any interesting idea of where FA and RFA will land on tuesday?????
Hoping Wes Welker will be landing in New England.

the WRs in FA are all going to be very interesting as well as CB seems like a large market for thoughs 2 positions in this off season

#3 is definitely doable. I've seen it done several times.
Yeah I was unsure what was happening to be honest. In that formation, I changed it to strong slot putting Platt just beside the TE on the line. I know I did not put him at TE because I know it is impossible to substitute a WR into the TE position.

As far as Richardson goes, I did line him up at FB once with a double RB set. Is that not allowed? If not, I apologize as I did not think it was an issue.

I have been trying to balance my offense more the last few week as I try and find a running game that can work. So for me, I was simply not targeting him as much as usual. I have no idea how I can never break off a big run against you augmog since you are always sending the house up the middle. I also have no idea what defensive formation you run on the majority of your plays but I simply have no clue what it is. Your entire defense except the safeties practically line up on the line. Its just strange.
It's cool, I just decided to blitz manning instead of trying to cover Platt myself
5 INT's, 2 Fumbles. nice job Sam Bradford. GG Ramses... you destroyed my momentum every time with a turnover. The end of that 2nd quarter was brutal
Yeah, my defense exploded at the end of the second quarter. You were doing a helluva job moving the ball. Glad my guys made some plays...gg
I know we set to advance tonight I still haven't heard anything back ?
Send Fero a PM, he should be able to put them on auto for you.

Ive been in talks with seattle for a few days..i tried to get a definite time for today and have not gotten a response. We are suppose to play at some point tonight.
Still 4 games left to play when last I looked. Are those scheduled for this evening?
Long story short, an old friend of mine just moved back and I have had a busier than expected weekend. I set myself on auto so Cru can play the CPU.
Sounds like Seahawks-Pats lagged out at the very end of the game, so we're gonna have the Pats play the CPU.
I'm down with that - he would have won if it didn't lag out with seconds left.
I don't think Matt Young was on auto correctly
Oh shit, I did? I have never had to put myself on auto before. Thought I had to check the "Ready to Advance" box. Can one of the commissioners fix it? I'm sorry.
Sounds like Seahawks-Pats lagged out at the very end of the game, so we're gonna have the Pats play the CPU.
He said you can just sim it.

I'm going to ask for myself to be put on auto unless my game vs the Niners has any playoff implications (not just seeding). I'm skipping town Wednesday morning, so while I'll be around the next two days I'm swamped and just won't have the time to schedule something.

Good season, guys. I may or may not come back for next one. But I'll probably be out of town for most of the playoffs, so good luck to all who made it.
Jaguars vs Dolphins going down after we advance! Two underdog teams face off! Should be exciting!
Is this for the final playoff spot? Or could you both make it with the Chiefs losing? Not sure how it looked last.
