MAG Discussion Thread

Ok probably a dumb question but humor me. I thought after level 5 you could become a medic? I can't figure out how to do it can anybody take pity and tell me how to do it?

You have to purchase the med kit from the Barracks. Waste 3 points i think.
Then make sure you purchase the Resuscitation skill from there. 2 or 3 points. You get One point each level.

After you get both, you are now a medic.
You can start at level 3 (Med kit gun) then become a reviver (Resuscitation skill) at level 6 or 5. After that, you can purchase the other skills to make healing faster and revive to full health. i maxed out all of that.

it is better to start like this because you level up faster.

I would if the game didnt suck. Im sure someone will step up

Buy Socom!

Yea the swing in fun factor in this game between if you have to lone wolf or play in a good squad is ridiculous. I'd give it a 5-6 when no one plays together but a 9-10 when people play it right.

Wow, the update in the game menu is killing me. Over 1800MB? This should take me about a week to download. Why in the world is it so big? I don't think I'll be able to actually play because the update is so huge. I pretty much lost whatever interest I had in MAG.

serious?
leave that downloading
and go replay dark sector or do some singing on Guitar Hero Aerosmith...
or go to the park and play ball...

Well, this was a fun BETA, and actually sold the game to me. The previous stages of the beta (I was in two of them) piqued my interest, but I sucked hard on the game, so I didn't enjoy it much. On this one either I improved, or the shooting controls were improved or I got to play with better squads, or something, but it felt much better than previously. So see you guys at the end of January!

I would probably need to leave my PS3 on all day to finish downloading it. That's not happening.

And go to the park? You trying to kill me? It's freezing out there. :D

It's because it doesn't have auto-aim like MW2, you actually have to move your reticle as the opponent evades your gunfire. Shocking.

The download is annoying, but it's worth the wait. If you can't find anything else to do while it's downloading, you need help. I left it on overnight.

Actually I've been aware of that since the start of the beta (I haven't played MW2, and MW1 just two weeks ago or so, so I'm not auto-aim accustomed) and that actually makes every kill more satisfactory, specially sniper kills which have to be aimed just right (on my last game of the beta I managed to kill a paratrooper!) .

Something I did notice, is that it's much easier to see the opponents that on previous builds (which used to blend into the background quite easily). Also, something that I don't know if it was always there, but the fact that you don't have to buy all of the skills on a level to access the skills on the following is great

Anyway, I'll definitely get the game on preorder (for the $10 bonus on amazon), hopefully we can create a clan as good as the SOCOM one
I am getting a ps3 today, blue ray and this is the sole reason why I getting it.
whats a blue ray?

i need to order more blu-ray movies, that is also the same reason i bought it.
I do love the game package, over the crappy green box that Microsoft delivers its games.

Yeah, I'm just taking a shot at MW2.

You have to at least spend 2 points on a section before you're able to get anything else in the next tier though.

I'm pre-ordering as well, and if I was getting it on amazon I'd give the guy the MAG home thing, but I'm getting it in Gamestop to get the SVER character.

So, did the Mag beta end today? I just went and pre orderd this at gamestop and the guy said its was up on the PSN network, I checked and I didnt see it.

Sorry really new to the PS3 so I have no idea where things are.

Yeah, it ended today. If you have any other PS3 questions feel free to pm me.

Day late and a dolla short for the Gamestop beta code. None of the ones around me had one to give.....if anyone has one and can toss it my way that would be great.

Other wise I will simply wait until the end of the month for the full version.

Beta is over anyway so they would have been useless. It's worth the wait! I enjoyed it even when we were dieing horribly and I'm not usually a fan of console shooters. If it wasn't for my wedding next month I'd have it reserved.

Was in the Closed beta back in August, have my preorder with amazon for release date delivery. Can't wait. Plus the 10 dollar game code is tits.
Trophy list has been published at the PSBlog

Appparently to get the Platinum you'll need to reach level 60 with EACH faction, so look forward to play MAG a LONG time if you want all the trophies

Any of you taking part of the IGN 'Tournament'? With just two days since it started there're people of level 45 running around (26hrs of playtime it seems)!
The level 60 with the 3 factions is dumb, imo.

I wanted to enter that 'tournament', because near the end of my playtime with MAG I was consistently getting MVP but then I realized I had better things to do than farm xp points.

was going to sign up for the tournament but i was a day late...a day late!

what the hell, i wanted to extend my beta and now i have to wait for a release for the game.

Anyways, considering MAG relies heavily on the mic and considering only a few dedicated friends/teams had mics when i played,
How exactly would/should Sony respond to no-Mics people.

I really hope Sony, themselves, take charge and bundle MAG with a reliable headset for the ps3.
Pricing? i , cag-minded, would say 60 dollars. i mean, isnt MAG multiplayer only? no singleplayer i believe and that should be a reason to bundle a mic in it for 60.

nvm, it seems that it will be released without a mic, no special bundle either.

Well sony, if you are reading this, you seemed to have screwed up AGAIN.
Please proceed to fire that person who is Head of your Sales/Marketing Department and hire someone with a half a damn brain.

Well if Anyone is ordering from Amazon and doesnt care about PS Home, Im willing to buy your Home space code for a few bucks paypal. Please PM me.

This game is made by the same people that made those socom games huh.
pass
I played the beta and thought the controls were terrible. Everything else seemed below average too. Perhaps they should give up on making games since they can't seem to make any good ones.

Apparently the fact that "those socom games" are one of Sonys biggest franchises and best selling throughout the 2000's is lost on you. Zipper makes great games, but MAG isnt one of them.

I respectfully disagree with you here. I think MAG is the child between SOCOM and other more arcade-y shooters. It's a lot more tactical than COD or others twitch-shooters, but plays faster tahn SOCOM, so it's a pretty good middle ground. If you're expecting SOCOM, you won't like it, if you're expecting CoD you won't like it.

Personally I'm enjoying it pretty much and have preordered the retail version

Good lord the people hating on MAG is despicable. Dudes probably only spent 5 minutes playing sabotage and thought it was garbage from that.

People can have opinions, you know. I played the beta (that was really a demo) and I didn't think it was really all that great. I played for around 15+ hours in total. In my opinion, I think the game feels extremely generic, especially in the weapons department.

I really enjoyed the beta. There's two issues I had with it though.

One: the visuals. I encountered a multitude of weird graphical oddities. All small things, but they still stood out. The game seemed really dark also. I could barely discern what was going on inside buildings (yes, I am playing on an HDTV).

Two: the headset situation on the PS3. Obviously the lack of a default headset lessens the amount of people that are going to have one, but seriously, during the two weeks I spent playing the beta I almost never heard more than one person talking throughout an entire game. And a lot of times, the people who did talk were using a headset with absolutely dreadful voice quality. It just made it difficult to get any semblance of teamwork going, and bogged down the experience a bit.

I'm still really interested in this though. I feel like there's a lot of potential, and with the right teammates the game is a total blast to play.

MAG beta/demo was good. LOLOPINIONS

I am not sure how anyone complains in the Graphics department.
Really, Do you want glorious human-like graphics on a MASSIVE multiplayer game?
That is the reason Gears of War stays at 4v4 or 5v5, and not only that CliffyB and Epic have become horrible developers this past years..
If anything, MAG reminds of a Valve game. Thats right, a game with the Source engine graphics. (love ya Gabe )

and i just loved the atmosphere from the jungle level and that sun hitting my screen on that map..so yeah..go ahead and sue me.
i apologize if MAG doesnt offer Grenade Warfare 2 graphics...
but like a few of you said LOLOPINIONS

also, like Clint Eastwood said before, this game does have potential to be a great multiplayer game. Sony, themselves, should have bundled a damn mic with MAG. They bundled the unfinished socom confrontation with one, but not MAG? what the hell?

And yes, i agree, this is a great game by zipper.
but then again...LOLOPINIONS

I didn't have the time to download the beta, especially on my really slow psn download speeds. So I have zero experience with the game. I wish i would have the learning curve experience of dying lots of times in the demo before the actual game. I preordered the game when it was first announced.

With that being said, any more tips that you guys can offer? I'm definitely going to follow cRodz's advice on being a medic. Are there any videoes/youtube on the game footage? I want to know to how read the HUD and display info.

Man, I am so pumped for this game. I missed out on the beta but the concept alone seems amazing. Not to start yet another COD vs MAG but frankly I am just tired of what COD is.

This game seems like a perfect change of pace.

But I do love how if anything truly new comes out people hate on that shit just to hate on it.

I'm not talking about how realistic they are so much as simple clarity. I literally couldn't tell what was going on at times due to the sub par lighting/shadows.
preordered today....super excited for this. Anyone know if it has online split screen?
It doesn't. It's a single player multiplayer game.
I'm curious how they wrote those reviews. I thought the servers weren't up yet.
Either based off the open beta(which isn't really fair since it wasn't a finished product) or I think the servers were up for some contest someone was doing. It's possible Zipper opened up the servers early for the press to get some quality time in before the mass insurgence of people begins.

The playstation blog has a post about the differences between beta 5, and the retail product. There are quite a few differences.

Might be a good idea to list them ;)

January 26 is just one day away with MAG arriving on store shelves worldwide tomorrow and throughout the week. Before you delve into your first “official” match between Raven, S.V.E.R., and Valor, though, we wanted to make sure that you knew two things:

What the differences between the Beta 5.0 and the final version are.
How we implemented your feedback from the beta to affect the retail game on day one.
First, let’s talk about the differences between the final game and the beta you tried out a few weeks ago – the most obvious of which is the mode and map count. Whereas before, the Beta version of MAG only offered six maps and two modes, the retail version has a full five modes with 15 maps to play. The final game also includes a handy offline training mode, unique armors, new cinematics, art galleries, trophies, and the always-popular Veteran Mode that lets you start all over again with a permanent XP bonus and the ability to switch your faction after hitting the level cap. Of course, graphical and audio improvements are in there too.

The final game is better than the beta. Believe it.
But our “out of the box” distinctions aren’t all there is to talk about. We’ve also addressed a number of topics that were brought to our attention when you were testing MAG earlier this month, and will deliver them to you the moment you boot MAG up with a small in-game patch (roughly 60-80 MB depending on your region).

Among these upgrades is the oft-asked-for ability to knife an enemy while you’re reloading your weapon — in addition to a pretty significant framerate increase during player-heavy games and noticeable differences in the effectiveness of every weapon and piece of armor. Moreover, we’ve gone back and added all-new light settings for every environment and increased the amount of time you can sprint before getting tired.

For a full catalog of additions, fixes and tweaks, check out our complete list of patch notes below. See you again tomorrow and happy gaming!

Getting this tonight at midnight. I didn't think the beta was anything spectacular, but it's fun nonetheless and I have hopes and I've been playing too much MW2 anway.

Too bad I have a ridiculous amount of schoolwork to do this week though.
