I have not played Makai Kingdom, but I will say this: Stella Deus is horrible. HORRIBLE. While there are literally dozens of gripes, both minor and major, I could drone on about, here's a telling sample of what to expect.
Enemies have a ridiculously small field of view, like only as far as they can move in a single turn in most cases. This being so, if you ever find yourself on a ledge above an enemy or group of enemies, what will often occur is that they will be unable to figure out that to get to you, they have move over to a set if stairs or some such. So what do they do? Run back and forth on the ground. That's it. Turn after turn they'll just skitter about while you rain arrows/magic/whatever down on them. You literally have to lead them to the means of getting to you by moving your party members over to it if you want to use melee attacks on them.
Also, the battlefields are remarkably flat, not because they lack varied elevation, but rather because it doesn't matter as much as it should. An archer standing flush against a 30 foot wall can still shoot at a character standing on top of it. Many special attacks, even hand to hand special attacks, ignore height up to an unnecessary degree, so you'll be able to do your little sword rush or whatever to enemies far above/below you just because they happen to be within 2 squares. Might as well have just had perfectly flat battlefields with networks of fences or something, it would have served the same purpose and wouldn't have looked as retarded.
Blah, I could go on and on, and this is coming from someone who has a remarkably low threshold of enjoyment. In general, if a game doesn't, y'know, punch me in the face or steal my money, I'll continue to play it, but Stella Deus managed to drive me away. Knowing what I do now, I wouldn't spend $5 on it, let alone $50.
