Manhunt 2 coming to Wii.
Go to IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, etc. and you will see this is a totally new title with a different lead character.
What does that have to do with which version of this game is the lead SKU? I already know about the plot and all that. Just because it's going to be on the Wii doesn't mean that it's going to be tricked out to look a lot better than the PS2 and PSP versions.

From the IGN Podcast:

Matt: So this game is called Manhunt 2.

Bozon: Yes....

Matt: And it's coming to Wii. And you would think that we would play the PS2 version because there's also a PS2 version and that's how publishers usually do this. But no, we got to play the Wii version. And it's shipping the same day as PS2.

Bozon: Sadly, we can't talk a ton about any details on it, but we can tell you that it is very, very fun and that we had a blast with it when it came.

Matt: It's awesome. It's super crazy, bloody. So if you're into that thing, as Bozon is, because he's got issues....

Bozon: Dude, it's so good...

Matt: It's really good, and we're really shocked at how well and beautiful... I mean it's pretty good looking for a Wii game I think. I'd say it's one of the prettier games on Wii.

Bozon: I think it's the first game, and this shouldn't be a problem to say, I think it's the first game that kind of bounces between like a little under Xbox, maybe a tad bit over.

Matt: Certainly the blood effects are really nice.

Other dude: If it was on Xbox, it would have much, much better lighting, and much better textures, but then the Xbox version would probably chop up.

Bozon: Jerry, you like that one a ton too, right?

Jerry: Yeah, Manhunt 2 on Wii? It's going to be great. I say look forward to it.

Matt: We can't really talk about details yet, but we'll have some coverage this coming week and you can look forward to that. What we can say is you're going to want the Wii version, absolutely. There's absolutely no reason to get the PS2 version. There's several major, I'd say really kind of fundemenatlly important reasons you'd want the Wii version.

Bozon: We went hands-on with this game for a long time...

Matt: Yeah, it was like four hours.

Bozon: It was a four hour session. And it's the first time I've had a Wii game, sat down with it for four hours, and when they took it away, I was actually like, "Don't, don't."

Other dude: Were you crying?

Bozon: Yes. I was. Aside from Zelda, seriously, I love this game.

Matt: For me it's like you know, they announce a game like this, in the back of my mind I hope this isn't going to be a stupid port, you know with tacked on Wii controls. It doesn't feel that way at all. Can't talk about why of course, but it doesn't feel that way at all.

Other guy: The informational value of this podcast is staggering.

Matt: It's great isn't it? But people are learning Manhunt 2 is going to be good on Wii. --- Normally when we get Wii games in here, we get about two people behind our desk, meh, and they walk away stupid, kiddy, and whatever, and that's normally dan harrison. But for the Manhunt 2, for Wii, when we brought that in, we had the whole office in, including just a bunch of people who normally just don't care about videogames.

Bozon: Yeah they've seen Wii Sports and like nothing else.

Matt: And then like a lot of them are like, My God, can't believe that's happening, and laughing, and whincing.

Bozon: One person actually said, Why is he holding a Wii controller to play this?

Matt: Yeah, she didn't know.

Bozon: And then they were confused that this was on Wii. They didn't understand what they were seeing.

Matt: They kept asking, is this a Wii game? Yes, this is a Wii game. This is a Wii game. Rockstar is doing this right, definitely. They're bring the love to Wii.

Hate the boxart, don't know about the game. I'll play it, but I have absolutely no opinion on the game so far. Here's hoping the Wii controls are at least decent. :)

Imagine you're insane, paranoid, and overreact to every single little thing a person says. That's basically what Manhunt 2 appears to be, or otherwise known as the life of PyroGamer on CAG. :)

But really Pyro, I've haven't seen someone gush for a Wii game like this in forever.

The podcast is in there. They start talking about the game around 28:20.

I never played the first Manhunt but I'm glad Manhunt 2 is not a sequal to the first one, it is a completely different story. I'll wait for reviews to see if I'm going to give this game a try, I am still waiting to get The Godfather.

Its not really like The Suffering games, its basically a stealth game like Splinter cell...you have to hide in the shadows and sneak up behind people, etc. Thanks for the vid though, that is definitely classic Manhunt gameplay...did I see a spine being ripped out?

Yeah, the only similarity between this game and The Suffering is the concept of being held in a large compound (in that game, a jail, in this one, a hospital/mental institution) and then breaking out.

My excitement quivers!

Consider for one moment that in Manhunt 2 you can, Wii remote and nunchuk in hands, use a pair of pliers to clamp onto an enemy's testicles and literally tear them from his body in a bloody display; and if that weren't enough, you'll take one of the poor victim's vertebrae along with his manhood. Or, if you'd prefer, you can use a saw blade and cut upward into a foe's groin and buttocks, motioning forward and backward with the Wii remote as you go. But believe it or not, there is much more to Manhunt 2 than mutilation and mayhem. This is a game that begins with the subject of psychosis.

The Wii version of Manhunt 2 looks noticeably better than the PS2 version. Rockstar Toronto has used the extra horsepower that Nintendo's console delivers to "up the gore." This is done in a few key ways. For starters, character models in the Wii version will display realistic blood splatters, bruising, gunshot wounds, gashes, and head wounds. In addition, blood will actually spray the screen during combat and executions in the Wii iteration, just as it will accumulate on Danny as he explores the asylum. Considering how important the gore factor is to Manhunt 2, these are all welcomed additions. The title meanwhile looks very sharp on Wii, moves at a steady 30 frames per second, and runs in both 480p and 16:9 widescreen modes.

Manhunt 2 is set to hit Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP on July 10. Representatives for Rockstar told us that the company never once considered releasing the Wii version at a later date, as is sometimes the trend with multiplatform games. They added that they don't consider the Wii build a port of any kind, but rather an affair catered specifically for the Wii audience. Call us sick, but we couldn't be more excited because Nintendo's console will be home to the definitive version.

I just read the IGN article. Wow. Wowowowow. Honestly, the elements of violence and depravity in this game surpass most motion picture efforts I'm aware of that cover the same ground, save for a few Japanese flicks.

I'm simultaneously amazed, excited, and slightly disgusted. Buying it day one to support adult-themed Wii games, although a little piece of my soul will leave me alongside my $50.

Swallowed by the devil, no doubt? :)

Woo-hoo! Paging Jack Thompson... :)

Hell YES!!! I knew motion controlled mutilation would be in this game!!

Anyway, Thompson can't say shit about this game or he will breach his settlement with T2 and be up shit creek.

After reading that preview I can't help but think that this will be the game to finally bring governmental bans on games. I mean, motion controlled killings, severed heads dangling from your belt and levels of violence rarely seen in a movie?

I hope it doesn't happen, but if there is such a thing as a murder simulator Manhunt 2 for the Wii would be it.

In the PS2 version of the game, you merely hit a button to trigger the whole animation, which is far less engaging. On Wii, you act out the execution with a series of gestures timed to on-screen cues. If you're cutting into a man's skull with a saw, which you sometimes do, you might have to make a forward/backward motion with the Wii remote, hit the B trigger to a visual cue, and then gesture quickly upward with both controllers to put the finishing touches on the attack. It's much more immersive both because motion-based controls are inherently so and also because you're stringing together these attacks in the Wii build, while they are canned animation sequences in the PS2 one.

I will get this merely because if its as they say its going to cause an uproar and I have a feeling it will be pulled. And that may be what Rockstar wants... just think of ht publicity and "cult" status it will achieve.

I was unsure about buying this until I read how you can use the Wiimote to rip out testicals. Ok after I read that I put it on my buy it new list. This sounds so bad (I mean bloody), I just got to play it, lol.
I want to point out every single 'hardcore' gamer should pick this up. It's time to put up or shut up.
So, being a "hardcore" gamer means you have to like "hardcore" violence? What the fuck? What sort of stupid thinking is that?

Anyways, I won't be playing this. It definitely sounds like it goes too far for my tastes. It's not that I can't stand ultra-violence, it's that I don't really like "grim" ultra-violence. I like it tempered with sillyness, like in Grindhouse, for instance.

Also, like with most Wii games, I think they're probably exaggerating how detailed the motion control is. It's all probably still stupid canned motions.

If it's not stupid motions and does work pretty well, I'll be picking it up.

I would really be torn if this were coming out for both the PS3 and Wii.
Torn between graphics, and visceral death motions.
I guess I'd go with the motions.

Hey that's what most 'hardcore' gamers say. Don't kill the messenger.

he was going after Wendys for supporting Nintendo though so he will still pester someone

Pfff. In my usual circles, a "hardcore" gamer is usually the type who plays and masters (usually bloodless) scrolling space shooters and fighting games. :)

We must hang out in different circles. How bout we do lunch? Have your circle call my circle. :)

New trailer up at gamespot.com. By looks of the trailer, the game looks like one of those horror movies you see nowadays but in a game form that is good.

My circle is too busy bitching about the death of arcades. :/

(Shit, I meant to do a edit. Sorry).

Thanks for that.

New trailer looks awesome. I will also be getting this on day one. There's no way in hell this game won't kick ass.

I'm having a very hard time remembering a time where I was more excited for a game then I am now. This game is going to be SICK.

(Someone at Rockstar has clearly been watching Hostel a lot, judging by the second picture).

Sometimes I wonder if Nintendo actively pursues a game like this or Resident Evil 4* so that they can point to them whenever anyone accuses them of their traditional stigmatization, which isn't exactly unwarranted.

On one hand, I want to support this game in hopes of great sales encouraging other developers to 'diversify' this console's lineup, but on the other hand, I don't want to condone shoddy-looking PSWiiClusterfuck ports (and both trailers I've seen for it look weak), and like I said in the previous paragraph, I really don't think these once-in-a-great-while exceptions are going to change the overall landscape of this system.

I'll wait for the reviews, I guess. I think it's going to be a pretty polarizing game on a critical level, as well as the obvious conceptual one.

*--Or Nintendo allowing nudity in Dave Mirra's BMXXX (or whatever it was called) while Sony didn't. What was that all about?

Probably when I can get it for around a twenty-spot. I mean, at this point, I might as well wait, right? I never played the game elsewhere, and it's not a 'priority' title for me. But the reviews seem to suggest it's worth a playthrough.

If you were considering supporting that at full price, Godfather is probably a much more worthy selection. It was my top choice out of the games currently out, snagged it with Mario Party 8 for $40 after discounts and gift cards, a fine deal.

Come on Bott, at least let Manhunt get some reviews out before you start suggesting The Godfather over it. :)

I own it for 360, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. I've heard good things about the Wii version, although I haven't played it myself.

I don't see how you can compare the games. They are totally different. Godfather is a GTA clone and Manhunt is a linear stealth game.

I only played Godfather for 30 minutes or so, but off the bat I can tell you that the map was atrocious (can't find anything), and the driving was mediocre. I stared at the map, the big one, for like ten minutes and still couldn't find my hideout among the millions of other icons that shouldn't have been there so early in the game and were indistinguishable from each other.

Even if Godfather is a good game, it will never be comparible to a GTA game which is what it should be compared to. So it's actually EA that has their work cut out for them.

I'm pretty sure even though RE4 and Diddy Kong Racing are different games, one can say which is better. ;) And there are certainly flaws in the Godfather, but it's just plain fun to play on the Wii. Hopefully Manhunt is as well, I'm really just basing on this on the fact that the original doesn't appear to have blown peoples' socks off, so I'm not really expecting much from the sequel.
