Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Everyone's been kinda down on it, but I'm looking forward to it. There hasn't been a decent "track-and-field" type game in years. For me nothing has come close to Summer Games on the Commodore 64. Hopefully this one will be decent.

Like the OP said, I'm hoping it will play like a more advanced version of Wii Sports, and I have little doubt that it will. Don't know how they're going to make running around a track fun, but the other events should kick ass!

By making you franticly alternate the remote and nunchuk up and down of course. That's FUN!

thats what im talkin about, use those mario ddr pads for some of the games. at least have the option to do so. i just loved the long jump... running on the pad, jumping off the pad, and then jumping back on, i was very good at the long jump

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm a fan of Mario sports. And Olympic video games have always appealed to me, even those abysmal games that were on the N64.

Knowing Nintendo, they'll start up with that idea and then decide that it would somehow be better to shake the Wiimote and Nunchuk side-to-side for long jumps.

Could turn out to be pretty fun.

I'm so psyched for this game I preordered TWO copies! Seriously! Well, OK, not so seriously. I did preorder 2 copies with the latest EB deal but they are both placeholders (for SSBB and Mario Galaxy). But if this is half-decent I could see just sticking with one of those preorders anyway.
you dont applaud yourself! :shame:
Hah hah, I have a problem of laughing at my own jokes, so I guess it just comes naturally.
Funny, the only thing more irrelevant than Sonic in the last 10 years has been the Olympics. They are a perfect match!
Ouch! :)

I'm all for this game, but the FACT that there's running kinda makes me mad.. lol Sonic IS and ALWAYS been about OMG IM SO FAST. Mario is more of a jumper. I understand that THAT'S what it probably is all about...but STILL. Not even looking at JUST Mario & Sonic. How is say.. Robotnik going to outrun Sonic?! But, whatever really. As long as it's fun!

Psst! It's not real.

Robotnik had outran Sonic before. Death Egg level on the original Sonic 2.

I remember that upsetting me as a child.

If this plays like an expanded version of Wii Sports with fun, recognizable characters and online play, then this could in fact be the Wii's killer app more than Mario or Smash Bros. The Wii has sold a lot to non-gamers, and they need more games of this type.

The game looks fun, but does anyone else feel like the developers were a little lazy with the graphics? I am a big Wii fan, so I'm not looking to start a fanboy flame-fest, but I think SSBB set the bar very high and other developers need to follow suit and re-do their character models instead of relying on their GC version.

I think I am feeling the opposite from these screens. This game looks like the third party developer actually tried to do something half way decent with the graphics. It is going to be a long time before anyone passes the graphic bar nintendo sets on their own console becuase they have had more time and access to the technology. Compare these screens with Mario Party 8 (which admittedly was a port from gamecube) and you will see this game looks better. Maybe it will have even more polish by the time it is finished. If you want to see lazy work in progress games look at Destroy all Humans (which has about year to be polished up, so it is an unfair comparison) or Dragon Blade, both of those games look like they need much more time in the oven before they are passable graphic wise.

Man I am conflicted on the whole graphic issue with Wii. I kind of want every game to have the graphic polish RE4 had on the gamecube. I know it is asking for a lot given that games development time. I just don't think I should feel that my ps2 games look nicer than my Wii games. Although I still love my Wii so "End Rant."

On the Issue of Graphics anyone notice that Super Mario Galaxy Shine to the characters, as if they are covered in some form of irridecent material?

Well, Sonic couldnt catch him...then there wouldn't have been the epic final battle.

Maybe Sonic was going slower because he was in space ;)

I kinda like the concept here, but I think an Olympic game would have been done better with Miis. Along the lines of.. Wii Sports 2 Olympic Edition. It think it would appeal more than Man Vs Beast or Italians VS Animals.

That's a terrific idea, too bad it'll take Nintendo years to think of it.

Well, I will concede that they do look a little better than a straight GC port, so better than MP8 but not as good as SSBB. Yes, we are spoiled by SSBB, but I thought Nintendo was involved with this game so I expected more. I guess you couldn't have the Nintendo characters look sharp and new but leave the Sonic characters with only mild enhancements. I guess it is like all consoles--some developers take pride in their work and some don't. I just clicked on this thread after the SSBB thread so it was more pronounced. I am still all about gameplay, though. And as pointed out above, I hope Miis are an option, too.
