Mario Kart 64 is coming out in Japan for 1000 wii points which equals to $12.50. I just think this amount is insane considering that this is just a port from N64. You can buy games $5 for gamecube, yet Mario Kart is 1000 wii points? Get out of here...

..1000 points is 10.00 dollars. Here, anyway.

And MK64 is worth every bit of $10.

and for the record, every N64 game will be 1000 points.

OMG! $10 for SMK64 like they said all N64 games were going to cost since the release of the pricing tier? NO WAY! Call up CNN!

I can't go back to any MK after playing the DS version. Even though the 2nd screen is nothing more than an overhead map, its such a perfect fit for the game.

I ove this part of the OP's rant. Sure you can buy GameCube games for 5.00 but are they as good as MK64? Most Def Not.

10 bucks is worth it just to battle on block fort. Also wireless wavebirds > N64 controllers.

I never got SMK 64 on my N64 since it never hit a dirt cheap price. I was a CAG back in the day too. And since I had Diddy Kong Racing I couldn't justify paying nintendo's price for it.

But I'll pay 10 bucks for it no prob.

Yikes! since when did MK become such an expensive game?.....tempted to sell copy......but no! too many memories of endless multiplayer.

Gdamnit O-Boy! I clicked on here expecting to see a thread about how wonderful it was that Nintendo was going to offer Mario Kart 64 for the VC this Monday - and for only 1000 points to boot! But what do I see instead? Old news about the Japanese VC release... Meh... I'm not pissed at the price, I'm pissed WE don't get this game to download! Though that does remind me, time to get another Wii Points card at EB or GC, using my credit obtained at a profit from cheap Kmart games. MEANING - full cost to me for this when it DOES come out... about $4. I think I can handle that.

Edit - Roufuss, I'm surprised there are so MANY of those available on eBay right now. I changed the search a bit (just made it "mario kart 64") and came up with 176, most of which are just for the cart (a few are bundles). Is everyone dumping theirs in anticipation of the VC release? Though it hasn't been dated yet for US we all know it is coming sooner or later.

Here are some completed ones:

Cart-only, $46:

$51 for new in box - check it out, this person seems to have gotten a hold of an entire case of new ones:

Here's someone who didn't do their research before setting a BIN of $14.99:
Too bad there's no chance of seeing Diddy Kong Racing.
It's being ported and updated for the DS, though. :)

My basic arguement for VC games has been that it's cheaper to pay $5 to $10 for a game than to pay for the console I don't currently have and then have to pay for the game I was looking to download on the Wii. Sure, $10 for a game here and there evens out cause it'd cost me more to re-buy the console I no longer have (which I regret) just to play that game again.

Sure, some games aren't worth the money. You know what I do with them? I don't download them.
Sure, some games aren't worth the money. You know what I do with them? I used to think the VC prices were a rip off too until I started checking eBay prices. There are some that are still overpriced... like 500 points for Super Mario Bros. (which should be like 5 points) but many are actually a good deal.
Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Same 'ol response for the same 'ol bitching and whining.
I am not going to buy it. I rather play the gamecube version. I am just telling you all that I find it messed up that a N64 game costs $12.50 to download? Ahh, yeah, you get the original manual, case and everything else mailed to your house? No. Why is Nintendo charging this much when there is no cost of manufacturing a physical cartridge, case, manual, etc. Also there is no distribution costs, 3rd party fees, etc. Nintendo is just raping your wallets... They could easily sell all downloads for $5 bucks.

Its like Itunes, you can buy a cd for 9.99 (most of them) yet go to the record store and you will find most cds between $12.99 - 17.99. Itunes does not have any physical costs therefore the price is usually cheaper, yet at a record store, you pay more yet you get the whole album art, case etc...

Of course. They could. But why would they charge $5.00 for Mario Kart 64, when they could charge $10.00 and still get lots of buyers?

People are forgetting that Nintendo is a company that likes profit.

We all know that they are all about $$, just look at the cost of the wiimote...

I agree that overall VC prices are too high, but this is NOT the game to be complaining about. MK64 was easily one of the best games for the N64.
Shit, Mario Kart 64 goes for that much?! I still have the box for it and everything...
I managed to pick up a sealed one for $20 at the flea market a few years ago. :)

Can't wait to sell that baby...

So for $20 I can buy a Wii Points Card, get Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64? And the problem is...? Sounds like a good deal to me.

People just need to bitch about something I guess.
so how many more times are we going to have topics about VC prices instead of posting in the damn VC thread.
Too many to count. It might rival the "I fOuNd WIIMoTES @ _____ in ____" threads. It'll only get worse once even more prominent titles are released for the VC.

OP, the cost of a N64 + Mario Kart is a whole lot more than $10. If you don't want it, don't buy it. You can't assume that everyone that plays games held onto their N64.

Exactly. It's like iTunes.

If Nintendo were to rerelease the N64 cartridge with the full packaging, manual, cart, etc., it would certainly be priced higher than $10-15 MSRP. The last time it was on store shelves, it was priced at $40, I believe.

$10 or $12 is a huge discount compared to what you would be paying for a new in box N64 cart, without a doubt.

if you are going to be complaining about something, you should complain how the Japanese 5000 Wii pts card comes with a free classic controller
if you are going to be complaining about something, you should complain how the Japanese 5000 Wii pts card comes with a free classic controller
motherfucker....damn them. somebody start a new thread to address this!

I own the game on the 64 but Im so tempted to buy it for the VC when it is released just so I can relive the multiplayer. Arg I hate rebuying games I already own, curse you Nintendo I have fallen for your marketing scheme.

I heard Super Mario 64 ran smoother/ clearer on the VC than on the 64 (I dont know where maybe the man that lives in my attic told me), so does this mean that all 64 games should run smoother? If so then I might need to purchase some of the 64 titles I already own on the VC...

This thread and this past week's VC releases remind me that I hope they release the N64's Castlevania someday. Damnit, I never got close to finishing it, and I lost the cartridge in a move at some point. A lot of licensed games and maybe even Rare (as in, the publisher) titles may never see the the 'virtual light' for legal reasons, but there's no excuse for omitting this one.

Sorry for derailing the bitching and counter-bitching. Please, by all means, continue.

My sister took my N64 for California when she moved there. Therefore, I no longer have MK64. $10 is more than worth it just for the multiplayer battle. I liked MKDD, but there's just something lacking about the multiplayer. Probably because you can't be the bomb.
People just need to bitch about something I guess.
Now that is a deep thought. How much time did you spend thinking about this?
So for $20 I can buy a Wii Points Card, get Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64? And the problem is...? Sounds like a good deal to me.
The problem is both games should be $10-$15 together. We are talking about games that were released back in 96 - 97. Mario Kart 64 is only 12Megabytes (1$ per megabyte!). Oh yeah, you have to spend $20 for the classic controller to play the games...

Then go buy the shit off Ebay, and enjoy paying $30 alone for Mario Kart 64, and that dosen't include the system if you don't have it.

I fail to see your problem... you are bitching about something being too expensive when the alternative is three times as expensive? We all wish the VC games were cheaper but they are still a hell of a bargain when the alternative is Ebay.

Please shut the fuck up.

And it's fucking $10.00 you sack of crap, not $12.50, you've been corrected on this multiple times already.

Yeah man, give all your $$ to Nintendo and make them happy. I was pointing out how Nintendo is milking everything nowadays... That is my opinion and if you dont like then I am glad!
The alternative for me is NOT buying the Wii nor the controller nor Wii points.

I love the deep thoughts. I love the "fuck you , shut up because I am right attitude". As a FYI this is called a messageboard, people can express their opinions about not liking something.

$1 per megabyte is cheaper ratio than all those NES/SNES/GEN/TB16 games.

Me too! Even though I bought and finished both N64 Castlevanias (I still have Legacy of Darkness, can't find the original one!), I wouldn't mind being able to play it on my Wii...

I don't mind N64 Wii games being 1,000 points. I'm selling my cartridges (except Castlevania!) on eBay and for each one I sell I can usually get enough money to buy two N64 VC games. Some of them even more!

VC games are all about convenience. Sharper-looking graphics, no need to blow on the damn cartrige just to get it to work and no need to connect your system to your TV just to play the game.

Since my N64 sits about 4 inches away from my Wii, I can just pop in the original and play, which I may do today. But if I didnt have that, I would definitely pay $10 for it, in a heartbeat.
