Marvel Puzzle Quest Discussion Thread

I would not call Devil Dino progress hahaha I hate him he is the worst.

But the point you were making is still very true.
if i have a IM rank 1 max. Black Rank 1 maxxed working on a Rank 2 thor. would it be worth my time trying to go back to make a Rank 1 Storm max (i would have to find all of her covers again since i sold them all) got 250 coins now need 150 to open up 3 more slots.

Do you think i should dump any of the people now to open up slots or wait till i get 400 coins

now *7 slots*

IM rank 1 max (keeping)

BW rank 1 max (keeping)

Thor rank 2 few covers

Storm rank 2 no covers

Wol rank 2 1 or 2 covers

Hood rank 3 just won it no covers

Storm rank 3 won it no covers

main team right now IM BW and HooD (will move thor into hood spot once i get his level up)

best to keep them all or should i dump anyone. Just started like i said on NOV 1 so got a lot of catching up to do. too bad the tablet and pc would not merger. Love to play it on the tab but hate to play it on 2 systems

And according to HuBu's post before, the subevents should end in 13 hours from now? 11pm Central?
You have the correct end time.

If you need a spot, dump 3* Storm. If you do not need a slot at this very moment, use who you have. Keep building your 2* team, the three you have are some of the better ones.

Something to consider about my advice, from the forums:

So, maybe not? Once the new season starts, you probably won't see new covers for Magneto for at least two months.
Thanks Koju! I'm not overly concerned about getting more covers for any of them at the moment, although it would be a nice bonus. I don't have the HP and I'm mostly concerned with putting together a good team to nab a Mystique cover in Nefarious Foes. I have my 166 BP, 153 Falcon, 153 Steve, and 140 Hulk for other tournaments and PvEs. I've already spent the Iso, so there isn't much I could do about it now anyway.

Anyone seen a refund on the HP for slots yet? I had to buy some so I could open up a slot for Mystique for the PvE.

The simulator hard event is actually....hard. Is mystique the only character boosted for this event? (I think Hulk is too. But he really doesnt pair that well with my Psylocke or Steve)

no idea how some of you guys already have 40,000+ points in this event. Are you just playing 8 hours non stop or what?

Honestly, after a half hour at most playing I'm usually bored and ready to move on. I sit and play at 10-15 minute bursts in between kid demands throughout the day when I'm home

What's funny is they made Mystique as a Green/Yellow/Red killer, then they made the required nodes mostly people that don't feature those colors. That in combination with the fact that most people won't have many covers makes the Hard essential nodes even harder.

Just got mine. Apparently I had spent 4200 HP. You get it in chunks made up of different award values (got four drops: 2900, 1000, 250, 50).

Decided to gamble on a Simulator token with my new wallet. 2* red Thor. Don't do that.

:D/ :D/ :D/ :D/ :D/ :D/

I got 12,100 HP back

EDIT.

With my previous pool of HP I now have 13,400... that is enough to buy 10 covers outright and still have enough for a slot or two down the road..

If I had all three covers for Mystique or Blade it would make the decision easier...

So what is everyone's thoughts on Mystique now that we are able to use her?

I feel her moves are definitely pretty solid though maybe not as amazing as I was picturing?

They really need to set something up for how long people have been playing. I got in the top 40 in the last  thing that ends tomorrow. Then nothing but loss loss loss loss knocking me down to like rank 148  and ever battle i can even get into now is  people who have 3 stars that are like rank 60 or higher. Dont see how they expect new people to come in when they just allow the vets to crush them in every gaming event

I think making the blue power the lowest tier/alliance reward in the previous event was a mistake. It's boring and interferes with most of the better power sets (reds and greens are the popular damage colors). So unless I get another color soon, she's going to languish for months while I randomly find covers.

The loaner version was fun to play with, but the two blue version I have for the essentials is dead weight. Two purples would have made a huge difference, I think. Not only does it do 'something', but it's an active power that would fuel your primaries on a color that is underrepresented in 3* land.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I hate using her blue right now without any other powers. At least once I have her other moves it can power that but for now it is just effing up my other characters who use those colors.

I am debating though whether or not she should be what I drop all of my HP on. After the PvP rewards so long as I stay in a decent rank I should be able to max her on powers and still have some HP left. I am just not sure she is really worth it though. I wish I could mess around with her maxed in a couple more matches

EDIT

On that note, I am trying to think of what her best power set would be. I am thinking 4/4/5?

4->5 in Purple only nets an additional stun turn and the ability to steal Team-Ups when matched. This is good but not really necessary.

Ideally you would have Blue at 5 to get the most out of it and make 10 tiles change and not just 8 so that you have a higher chance at cascades and what not, but I think having her black at max is more important since that jump from 4->5 yields a HUGE jump in power.

Thoughts?

DOUBLE EDIT

Checked the forums

http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=18594

Apparently 4/4/5 is seen as the least desirable...

TRIPLE EDIT

Haha so reading the forums I definitely am not nearly as interested in boosting her to the top of my roster anymore. They bring up valid points as to how she is useful, and definitely moreso than many of the new additions, she still has drastic drawbacks. To get the most out of the Black move you need a shit ton of AP since it requires a shapeshift tile to be out too which means it takes 19 AP to nuke with her.. which normally isnt too bad but her low health pool really messes with that. I can see the merit then as her as 5/5/3 and then however she is still just a purely support character.

While that doesnt make her bad by any means, I just feel I should focus on someone else then with this massive pile of HP. I REALLY wish I had Blade's purple because then he would be an easy choice.

I could focus on X-Force but since 4* covers are basically double the 3*s I wouldnt get nearly as much out of it.

Ugh.

This game, more so than other F2P games IMO, is geared towards those already at the top. It is going to take you a long time to transition to decent 2* characters, let alone 3*. Unless you want to fork over some cash. I'd only spend hp on slots at this point because having a diverse stable of characters is more important than having one good one.

Fifteen minutes until next season and seed teams for the first PvP.

So let's make Blue the 1100 progress award for her PvP event while we're at it. Bah.

And to make things fun, let's make Beast a season progress award, too!

Holy $hit...who got seed team? All of mines are 100, within 5 min

ends in 2d 11hrs

Spidey is reward for Myst

I'm not sure if seed teams are still a thing with the new matchmaking. I know for the Nefarious Foes, my first set had people boosted up over 200.

Seeds still exist, I have them on my nodes right now.

They have to exist, or else the first person who tries to play would have nobody to play against.

Supposedly, there's rare air at the top level scoring where if someone pushes way past everyone else, they get seed teams again. Dunno if that still happens, but it was found out when the X-Men teams were pulling in crazy numbers that looked like cheating.

10 pack unwrapping

  1. Moonstone
  2. CStorm
  3. AWolverine
  4. Ares
  5. Hulk (green)
  6. Moonstone
  7. Hood (yellow)
  8. MHawkeye
  9. MHawkeye
  10. Sentry (red)

hulk - maxed on green

hood - useful

sentry - useful

at least for the event.

Did a bit better with the 8 single tokens -

  1. MHawk
  2. OBW
  3. Mohawk (Green) [KEEP]
  4. MCap
  5. NowMag
  6. Fury (blue) [KEEP]
  7. MHawk
  8. JohnnyStorm

I was holding on to 5 or 6 Heroic tokens, waiting for the swap-out.  Only three star I got was purple spidey. Who is now one cover shy of being maxed, but I don't see myself dropping ISO on him.

Fighting these 194 Ares during the nefarious Foes event is a real pain in the ass. Him and doom are my only boosted villians.

My 6 heroic tokens got me a yellow spidey (last I needed).

My 12 normal tokens got me a Hulk (useless) and the last BP I needed.  B^)

And since I haven't played PvP in like a day, the new matchmaking algorithm gave me a field of seriously low-leveled teams.  (level 23-60 1*s)

And I have gotten that about 5 or 6 times now where after I am playing for a long while I skip a bunch and then have seed teams again.

I am running into a bunch of 80-100 now boosted teams in Foe right now. I think people are not going too high because they want the black cover and not the blue cover.

For the PVE, do you guys recommend coming in late to get a nice bracket and gain pts because of the rubberband?

My Nefarious Foes seems to be a tough bracket. Need at least 800 points for top 10,  and over 500 isn't breaking me into top 100. after this tournament is over I'll work on the gauntlet some more. I'm probably starting too late to get any decent place. I've alraeady got Falcon at 5 blue, so need to place really high for anything usefull.

oh well. 105 in nefarious foes. didnt quite push enough. not that great of a loss, seeing as how I dont see mystique getting much use in the future.

Finished 53rd with 635 points.  Mystique's at 0/2/1, so if I make the progression reward in the simulator, I can at least have one of each cover.  Unfortunately, the bottom reward for her tourney is purple Spidey, which is the one color I can't use.  I also don't use him unless I have to, so I probably won't push hard in that.  Might at least make 300-400 for the token and HP.

Anyone else seeing weird things with the new matchmaking?  I go through rounds of way overpowered opponents, then waves of way underpowered opponents.

I didn't see that, but the 'grind' band of 600-800 was all over the map. I'm not sure if people just didn't have good boosted characters or something, but I rarely see 2* teams in that band. Sure, there were Ares/Daken/Moonstone teams, but I saw 2* Thor and OBW, too.

My Sentry bombing just isn't fast enough. Could only manage 6th place because my last match was a grind. Interestingly, for every Sentry/Hood/Daken team, I also saw Sentry/Hood/Magneto. That blue Magneto was a beast to get hit with, and his red gets all the teamups out of the way of World Rupture. Was nice to see some variation.

yea i seen that last night on the PC verison. It just shows you how few people are playing this on the pc. I had like 210 pts and came in 97th. 210 pts would of = like 500 or lower on the tablet.

But i think more people are coming since the Hood one i had like 258 points and came in 46th.

now i need 75HP to open up 3 slots to even use the covers

Just to clarify, the network part of the game is the same for PC and mobile - you are playing with the same group of players. You are getting better placement with a lower score because the game places you in a bracket with similar players who started playing around the same time. At some point, the game stops doing that - you'll be able to tell because the top five players are getting scores that are 1k+, and the next five aren't far behind.

The only differences between PC and mobile are the interface, Facebook integration, and the occasional platform-only microtransaction sale.

You're trying to clarify things for slidecage. It's an exercise in futility.

I'll probably ignore the mystique tournament post 300 ponts as well. I guess I'll be grinding the essential nodes in the gauntlet instead. Which is getting really tedious. They're only giving 1800 points at best.

did not know that. Thanks for that info. I Think when that time comes it will no longer be fun to play. Just opened up 3 more slots. 500 HP for 3 more slots seems like alot. guess i be stuck at 9 for a long time

Time frame must be 2 weeks cause now in the PVP all im getting is Rank 3 or better maxxed out people. and the top rank used to be like 400 pts now its 1200+ . Was just about to put 5 or 10 bucks into this game to get more slots open but no reason to put any cash in. I guess i just redo story mode and wait for the daily thing to give me some good Items before going back to PVP cause i have no chance as winning the covers now

well in the normal i pushed myself up to 37 (should of stayed at 51 and got 3 normal covers. Instead got 1 golden. Stupid hawkeye what i dumped for 250 coins.

Finished top 50 for both normal and hard simulator round 2. Only have gotten one token back so far and it was the worthless 2-star Cap.

Hood is the required character this time, so I might be siting this out a  little.

I've got 40,000 points and now the progression rewards start doubling? Ugh.

Looks like Sentry and Hood are about to get Nerfed. Does this affect the "meta game" that kojubat keeps going on about? (I never understood)

The Hood

We're balancing this ability so that it retains its high cost, high return capability. Instead of returning AP per tile destroyed (which could be great or horrible depending on how the board was laid out), it now deals an increasing amount of base damage. In return for this increased damage capability, The Hood also had to lose the Level 5 reward of not ending his turn on usage.

Sentry
Sentry may have the power of a million exploding suns, but he was shining a bit too brightly for the rest of the Marvel Puzzle Quest universe to cast their own shadows. Each of his abilities were looked at in turn, as well as in combination with one another and the various methods of gaining AP to come up with a more appropriate power set for this slightly confused champion of not-so-justice.

Got a green IW and a black 2 star Ms. Marvel from these tokens.  Two covers I could actually use.  Went and grabbed the 2000 Iso reward in the hard Simulator and then jumped in to the Mystique tourney.  My Hood should be good enough to put up some points, but it sucks that he's being nerfed since I actually have 5 yellow at the moment.

Looks like Sentry and Hood are about to get Nerfed. Does this affect the "meta game" that kojubat keeps going on about? (I never understood)
In theory, yes. It makes Sentry bombing slower, which is what is required for high end shield hopping. I think you'll see a migration to an X-Force based speed team at the higher scoring bands, but not immediately. Sentry is still pretty powerful afterwards, nobody uses his red unless it's the last match for the hop and the board is red heavy. The key issue is the 3 turn countdowns on green, everything else is pretty much just messing with math.

The Hood yellow nerf is annoying, though. It goes from an AP collector on a bad board to an expensive damage dealer. It's like they tried to make an even worse version of GSBW's red. I mean, he's still going to be around for his blue and black, but I can't see myself using the yellow unless it's a match ender.

Why does D3 think pistols are somehow hard to use? Two of the three character pistol-based powers are lousy.
