Yeah, gone are the days of joining a PvE on the last day and getting a good bracket, thanks to the time slices. At best, there is usually a thread on the d3 forums where people post when their bracket is full, and you wait to join until you see one, or see someone reporting that it's less than 100 people.

I joined my bracket in the last 12 hours of the first sub, and there still aren't even 500 people in it.

Mine only had 460 this morning and final number is 473 so 13 people got screwed. Didn't play yesterday so took a big hit and fell from top 25 to barely squeaking into top 50 by 80 points. Glad I hit those goon nodes with 6 minute left.

The past 3 events I have jumped in within the last 5-6 hours and I get solid brackets. Guess my luck has just worn off : (

I'm guessing majority of the people jumped in early including myself because it's a new character. Scored 96k which is my biggest PvE in a while. Might had been because I got a sweet bracket which made me try harder then normal or those pics of Squirrel girl that you guys posted

Top ten was a grindfest. Once I missed two refreshes, I could never get closer than 12th. Even a final day of crazy grinding and last hour pushing only got me to 16th.

Yeah, my alliance chat wasn't showing earlier today. Luckily, I finished Capt. Marvel and PvE last night and haven't started the other ones yet so I'm not missing much.

Just played the intro for the hunt, what are your thoughts on Squirrel girl? I would love a change up rather than the usual team up of a fully covered powered up teaser new character.  This always gives a skewed perspective of how the new character is. OMG they're so awesome, I have to have one!  Fully covered and powered up, I think even beast and She Hulk were awesome in the teaser node.

Playing with her in the intro node, I have to say that visions of invisible woman started popping up in my head.  Yellow created protect tiles, ended my turn.  Why does that seem familiar? Oh yeah Invisible woman created bubbles, ends turn.  I know, thats her green power, but blue makes bubbles and protect tile, so its like a mash up of Bag ladys powers to me.

Purple: with the way the power was set up that first enemy team would either have daken or bullseye.  Naturally the choice was daken as its easier to make strike tiles with green than protect with purple. Plus with bullseye the protect tiles would just cancel out some of the damage. I know she was powered up, but she pretty much one shot Ares.  I guess it goes along with her character of being able to defeat opponents much bigger than her. Its a good power, but I want to see it un powered up and with low covers before I judge it.

Green: Not since the days of Doc Ock have we had this happen.  Another let your kids make a super hero power contest at work I see.  Either that or it was the dart board method.  OK we have countdowns, and they do damage, but the kicker is they destroy tiles while they're counting down!  Im really surprised the swarm of squirrels dont stun the enemy or something.  I mean shit, if anyone saw a bunch of rodents running in their direction they'd be stunned.

I was also surprised they recycled Venom's devour sound for it as well.  Those squirrels really are that nasty huh?

All in all she didnt make me want to have her, more like it was that shes essential so I need her.  Im not saying she's as bad as beast but I dont see her as useful as say Rocket and Groot.  Im not even going to put her in the Steve/Thor category either.  Plus green, yellow, and purple; aside from purple, I can think of other people Id rather use yellow and green for.

Can't speak to Squirrel yet as I haven't even tried her out but your assessment seems right. I will be surprised to see if she really is all that powerful in the end. That would be really funny though if she did take over Sentry's spot in the Meta PvP game haha

But yeah eff Mystique. She seemed at first like a total 3* OBW. Not exactly but a strong support character with same colors. I had such high hopes but even playing with her boosted I just did not like her at all : /

I haven't started the event yet, but yeah, not excited about SG. There is no danger of her taking over the high end meta, not with Thorverine back as the killer combo.

I don't use Mystique regularly, but she's not completely useless in her Lightning Rounds. Her blue is pretty good if you have a better purple or black (like Blade). But yeah, low health + powers that interfere with the big damage powers means you don't get to be on the A Team.

I realize she's supposed to be the 3* version of OBW, but OBW has the "any one of these powers is useful" vibe, and Raven doesn't.

Oh I forgot to do my little rant on the hunt, which isnt as bad a heroic but still pretty crappy.

First off save time and go through that whole first part of the event.  I dont care if you follow the story and it kicks you out; DO NOT start the alaska base sub.  Just go through the main one because.....you'll open up the other 2 bases which one of them will probably be open or starting soon. 

Yep you actually get to play 2 sub events overlapping which has never been confusing ever, nor has it been a drain on your roster.  I know what you're thinking, "But DST when they run a simulator there are 2 nodes over lapping, a hard and an easy one."  With those though you know what you're getting in to: 3 essentials in the middle and about 6 regular nodes surrounding them.  When you have the florida and savage land subs open you'll understand.  Especially Florida; as there are lots of hidden nodes which if scaling gets pissy, you miss out on.  I think my least favorite is Florida since they really do place the nodes in odd locations.  Alaska is a square and you can see the pattern, Savage land has 3 distinct branches and you can see them as well.

All in all this is a crappy follow up to a heroic, but they cant always run a guantlet.  Sentry, Hulk, and deadpool events were just rerun. They also did Rocket & Groot back to back.  How recent was Thick as theives and the brotherhood events? Was it Ltrain who hated thick as theieves? I remember complaining on that one too.  DId we ever get a rerun of the Unstable (Red) iso event? I remember that was the debut of 2* cap America, but I dont remember if they ever ran it again.

Unstable ISO last ran in October, and before that, July.

I'm one of the people who isn't fond of Thick As Thieves, mostly because it has crazy scaling on Maggia goons. It bugs me that some organized crime mooks can somehow obliterate people like Hulk, Thor or Wolverine. I dunno, I don't mind it if professional soldiers do it or jacked up mutants or even ninjas. Rejects from a Sopranos casting call, not so much.

Good catch - the following abilities were made un-Fastball-Special-eligible for a few versions until we can fix a crash relating to throwing characters with abilities that make you choose tiles:

I wonder, why would they even list colossus as being able to throw himself? I know you can own multiples of the same character but I thought you could only use one at a time. Also if someone is on your team, you cant use a team up of that character.

The only crazy off the wall way I could see colossus being able to throw himself is and this is a HUGE stretch because of how the AI does or doesnt work. Have a battle in which Mystique Shapeshifts into colossus and then use a colossus team up on mystique. However I still think the computer would register mystique as mystique because honestly, what the hell does shapeshift really do?

I really want to know why colossus would be able to throw himself. Theres no way in hell we missed a patch where you can have multiples on a team. That just has to be a typo somewhere. Id hate to see the day trying to face a maxed X-force x 3 team.

My guess? Someone asked someone else "Hey, get me a list of every power in the game that requires the player to select tiles for it to work" without any context, or there is some power attribute that is set true/false, and it by its nature is affected even though it wouldn't occur.

Either that, or there will be a crazy simulator node with Triple Colossi, in the vein of the annoying Deadpool/Deadpool/Deadpool node a while back.

same im falling faster then a brick. i was 6th at 9am then 17 at 2pm now im 54th. Top 2 people have 15k higher then the rest there is no way this is possiable unless they are cheating.. there is a 15k pt drop from 2 to 3rd

Seeing as my Thor has been maxed out damn near his release I am not too keen on this event anyway. This is the only time in a LONG TIME (not including the Thorina event) where I have not had all the requires characters and it really sucks haha.

I am hoping I can at least get the final reward so I can at the very least HAVE Squirrel Girl. Though really I keep buying 200 daily deals in hopes of getting her and I already was low on HP so I may have to have her sit for those 6 days after just to build up my HP! Gross

I started Alaska today after unlocking all the subs last night. So there's no rubber banding I can tell you that. My score was shit and the points are really low. Half the nodes are easy or trivial, while the other half have scaled to level 200 enemies. Im guessing those nodes had some points and people just grinded them down until they're unplayable. No reason in hell Moonstone, Daken 2*, and yelena could down 2 of my 38 teams.

Here's the kicker, we're playing for 3* Thor. Nothing awesome, nothing great, something thats in the vault that most old school players have. Im in need of red/yellow covers myself sure, but Ive had 5 in his green for a while. We might as well be playing for Grey suit black widow again. The prize is so off for the level of competition/grindage going on. I really do have to wonder if there is some behind the scenes tinkering going or even some cheating. When I started this morning and saw people in my slice already being at 10k, it was hard to understand. Seriously nodes only giving 100+ points and waiting for that 8 hour recharge time. I just dont see it really. You know unless they get the rubber banding and I dont. I went one go through on Alaska and made it to the johnny storm progression and a health pack. So 1 go around got me 4k, If florida gives roughly the same points then maybe if someone had been grinding since entering the slice last night theyd be at 10k by the morning. However once again looking at the rewards, seriously its not worth the effort. Top 150, I get a red thor. Yeah I'll take that then and just coast.

one person had 8500 within 1 hour of the event opening this morning. 2 place had 3300. How is that even real

If i could take top 50 i would not mind putting a little more real money into getting this 3 star thor covers, but i be lucky to hit top 150 meaning no reason to even keep him. I wanted the call of storm and max that out. think it does like 6k to 1 and 3k to the rest maxxed

So I wasted probably like 600 HP on Event Tokens but I scored a Yellow Squirrel Girl in this morning's so now I can actually participate in the essential nodes!... to get another Squirrel Girl haha

I've been playing with my yellow/purple SG in the essential nodes, and I have to say her yellow is definitely the worst power in her set. Essentially, take Steve's yellow, make it cheaper, and ensure SG takes the next hit. So, you only want to use this in the extreme cases - either you are in no danger of getting hurt, so you're preparing the field for future damage, or you have no better options available with an incoming power on the next turn, so let SG at least put out protect tiles over collecting 3 AP. At no point was I thinking, "oh, I have enough yellow, let's do this!"

Hood probably has the closest mechanic, and I would use yellow for Hood over SG probably nine times out of ten.

Her purple? Not bad when boosted if you don't have another purple user. Right now it does about 1500 base damage with no specials out. Not something to focus on, unless you're running Spider-Man or something.

I only get to use her green on the loaner node, and only rarely. My impression is that while it can set up cascades, it can just as easily screw up any of your own board strategies. Definitely needs strike tiles to make it interesting. Unfortunately, the loaner team is slow to get out not only strike tiles, but the green needed to use it in the first place.

So... in the end, I think that while she's better than Beast, there is no way I'm investing ISO in her after this event. And I'm only investing now so she has a better health pool to hopefully drag her bruised and beaten through more essentials.

Luke Cage, Squirrel Girl - apparently I'm not missing out on much. I wish they would've just focused on making the characters they have better, maybe giving some space between events, but no. Had to keep pushing new covers out, and potentially running 3 events concurrently (if you so choose). Too much of a time commitment to play at the level I would like to play at, since there really is no possible advancement for a truly casual player.

I may have skipped over a few posts, but how have you guys been finishing in the PvE ranks? I saw there's a new alliance just for that... which got the same rewards as the main alliance after it started. May have jumped the gun a bit with that one. Planning and communication, fellas.

Also, if you feel so inclined, tune in to your local Wheel of Fortune affiliate on Wednesday, March 4th if you want to see how I do. Luke Cage is actually a pretty good character. If I get more covers for him, I could see him as a solid tank for a PvE cleanup team, maybe even sub in for Hulk. His automatic protect tile is better than I thought it would be.

Starting with the event after the alliance switch, the dedicated PvE has been getting top 50 on a regular basis, with occasional visits to top 20. Right now we're at 24.

man what a day, was in one team that was top 25 pve but really fell off on pvp (went from 250 to below 500) so found a team goes hey come here we get you a top 100/100 (what is cool with me cause im getting top 50 in pve by myself so i would get the covers and it would cover me in the pvps with the covers so left. Hour later even though rank 1 in PVE they kick me now im homeless person wondering the streets of MPQ LOL

was able to jump into the 4pm est tour with 1 hour to go ended 57th. many must jumped in the last 40 mins cause top score was only 384 (ended 525) Man if had a strong roaster could got a 4 star wolv

I guess I'll go with this one, since this was before "gold" Aka Lazy characters, but still even on paper this was horrible. Doc ock is better than Bag lady and his powers are mixed up conglomeration of shit. Thats just sad. They really need to retool her.

X-Force = 4 Star worthy character

ONLY AFTER they retooled him, remember he used to be shit. Healing from yellow took forever, The red was stupid, and the green did no direct damage. God he was horrible, you mustve forgot that.

Nick Fury = 4 Star worthy character

Pretty much he is, I got nothing bad to say about him. I like his change of colors patterns, makes him easier to put with any team since yellow, blue and purple are so different and arent major ap colors like red/green.

Thor = 4 Star worthy character

I'll hold off, those charge tiles really throw me off. Not what I call great, but not bad. The red/yellow/blue power scheme has been done, but I dont think we need another red/yellow/green thor either. Plus it will be a while for most of us to build a useable one, I just have 1 yellow.

The anniversary release! For a 4* it shouldve been better. However "fans" have been wanting one since whichever stupid even there was where you battled it. Then in the hunt we got to play it in the savage land. The Devil Dino we got wasnt even the one that originally starred in the first appearance. That thing was hella hard and only had a green color. We got some bastardized crap version, so hurray! Way to celebrate the Anniversary!

I got no words except why try to get any better with your 4*s, after Devil Dino ANYTHING would be better right? Nope got proved wrong on that one. Powers are just a color steal from Deadpool with the red/black/purple, however unlike deadpool they dont do shit. Purple! You can steal an enemy strike tile, what the enemy doesnt have one? Well you just give them some you know, to be nice. Black! We'll put out 2 trap tiles that will take damage if the enemy attacks. Oh but only if Elektra is in front and since yours is so weak, that wont happen. Dont worry though, if the enemy doesnt attack you, then it wont do shit. If the enemy matches it, it wont do shit, and if you match it, surprise, it wont do shit. Thank you for wasting your black when you couldve used surgical strike and just killed the enemy. RED! The only useful power! A free attack every turn, unless the opponent just keeps matching reds to get rid of that trap tile. Which if they do, it turns into the black power....it wont do shit....

I dont know if you can read the tone, but not happy with Elektra....

And the hits keep on coming....I read the power chart and I REALLY need to hold back commentary on him before I actually try him. Although I know after playing the teaser my socks wont be blown off & I'll be thinking wow squirrel girl was such a better idea.

He swaps what? He changes a reg tile into a countdown tile... Who are we? Modern Hawkeye? The magic here is its any colored non countdown tile. I HOPE that means a strike protect or attack tile.

More countdown tiles? And countdown tiles to reduce ability cost? I really want to know why this obsession with countdown tiles lately? Blade, Squirrel girl, Luke cage. All have some kind of countdown tile associated with them. If I can get Steve to throw star spangled avengers for 6 red AP Id think about it. Its a crazy idea but to protect a countdown tile just to save 1ap per turn? What a waste of a power.

HEY ARES! you have your green at 5? Well now it will cost you 6 to use onslaught! Ha take that! This is worse than Yellow, or maybe better? At least there is some direct damage here. The analogy on the forums is right, he's so similar to a 4* Hawkeye that thats what Im going to go with. These powers are just stupid to me honestly.

At this point, since we already have Squirrel girl, Im going to say the next 4* character will be someone from the Great Lake Avengers, probably Mr. Immortal. This game really wants to continue to make me hate it even more.

I really got to say how far are the devs going to go to try and make Beast and She hulk look like really awesome characters?

I view 4* Characters as Elite Marvel characters. Phoenix, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Dormammu, Odin, Hyperion, Hercules and so on would all be worthy of becoming 4 stars.

I am fine having 3*s be a gambit... also I would like to see Gambit haha. But yeah 1-3 stars alright whatever you can mix and max but 4* should be reserved as the top of the top. And I agree with you on that Nick but regardless I always just picture him as his old standard 90s gruff old Nick Fury...

But really we all know who the true FIVE star should be... the only true Nick Fury.

Good point. It'd really be nice to see some God/Cosmic (Thanos!) 4-star characters out there.

Realized I've been playing the game over a year now. Definitely starting to feel burnt out. I mean you just keep having to play more and more in order to place anywhere decent. I'm just not into putting 2-3 hours each day into the game to be sure I stay above 100 place just to get one more cover. And then if you loose out and miss the new/essential character you're screwed for the next round.

I would contend that Sue Storm gets to be a 4*, they just gave her a dumb set of powers in the game. When they realized in the comics that maybe she shouldn't be the Princess Peach of the Fantastic Four, they decided to go the other way and put her on par or better than just about every telekinetic mutant, plus invisibility. I think there is potential in the character, but it's not a high priority for the devs to fix when they can just release new ones.

X-Force is good, use him in just about every fight. Fury is good. I think he gets to be a 4* not so much for his innate powers, but more for his leadership perks. I know he's supposed to be a different Fury, but they make Movie Fury and Animated Fury out to be always-one-step-ahead, nine-lives-like-a-cat Sooper Secret Agent. Makes sense he'd be set up that way in the game.

4* Thor is built completely around throwing blue, then throwing red. At max power, that combo does about 10k to one character and stuns another. Slow like the other versions of Thor, but nobody matches the pure damage output just from AP collection. Plus, they got to support the "Hey, We Have Women In Our Comics" theme Marvel was promoting. See also: Squirrel Girl. Considering we didn't get iStark or Falcon America, it wasn't about supporting the character shuffle.

Devil... is fan pandering, so I give him a pass. He does make an effective scarecrow for a last hour push. There is just so much health to work through, and his purple slows down your match even further. But, he's really just something for the whales to spend on, unless you had a super lucky set of tokens during anniversary week.

Elektra I think only exists so they could run the Hand event. I have no idea why that's important, but there you go. Traps are worse than countdowns. I suspect getting a bunch of covers makes her interesting when you can drop a bajillion black traps and completely avoid damage, but there's no incentive to get there.

Starlord - I think I might actually like his power set, but will reserve judgement until the high cover levels are known. He could be the 4* version of Hood, or a complete dud. At least it looks like you get to place some of the countdowns, but not on other countdowns, so he doesn't get the Steve Anti-Goon Seal of Approval.


And honestly, I'm not interested in seeing a playable Thanos or the like. What I would like to see from this tier of character is something like an enemy event, where you get multiple attempts to attack the same health bar. Kind of like a reverse survival mode - you can chew through your entire roster trying to take down a huge health pool. Punisher would be super important, or excluded.

Or even better, set it up as an alliance thing - your entire alliance gets to fight the same health pool, and beating the foe before time runs out gives an alliance reward. Heck, you could do themed events like X-Men boosted against Apocalypse, or Asgardians boosted against Surtur, Fantastic Four against Galactus, etc.


In any case, trying to decide how hard I want to take a stab at getting Starlord. Missing that top 50 just rubs salt in the wounds with Stormhawk green as your consolation prize. Sheesh.

They do similar events (or at least they did not sure anymore) in the Marvel Avengers Alliance where you would have to call the aid of your alliances to help fight the huge bosses of the events. They then would appear on everyone's mission bars and you could do as much damage as you could before they either wiped you or fled. I would really like to see something similar in MPQ!

Right now I'm stuck with how to spend my resources. Once I maxed X-Force, ISO has been trickling into boosted and new characters here and there, and I'm pretty much banking HP except for roster slots and an occasional slot machine pull.

I'm at the 4* transition, so I should be spending on Thor (low on covers, but goal is to get her to 270) and Fury (cover maxed with the wrong covers, but no levels). But I look at characters like Blade, Luke Cage or Rocket/Groot, and I want to improve them for when they get boosted. I've also been playing with the Patch/Hulk bomb as my B team, so I feel like I need to get Patch his last dozen levels and respec his yellow to 5.

And you keep telling us Deadpool is awesome, I have him at 96 with 4/4/4 and he's boosted this event. So there is that. But having a maxed 3* Thor is already making this pretty easy - just don't have the optimal grind in me with 3 hour refreshes.

Part of the problem is my X-Force/Daken/<whoever> team is good enough to get me the rewards I want in PvP, so there are no progression hurdles beyond competing in the big leagues with 4* Thor. In PvE, I either have at least one of the boosted characters leveled, or I just spread the pain across my roster.

Damn, I am nowhere near the 4* transition. I am just sitting pretty with all my strong 3*s haha Speaking of, I actually got another blue IW and had to sell it since I already have her at 5 in that. Otherwise I do not really have any strong set up 4*s. X-Force and IW are close but seeing as all of my 4*s are only level 70 tackling their progression seems extremely daunting. I still don't even have a single 4* Thor : (((

I maxed my Patch a couple months back and was very glad I did. Ever since the True Healing update he has become increasingly more relevant I feel like and is really good to start long play sessions with and then when he is low you can always just play low level nodes with a maxed yellow to make him heal right back up.

I know what you mean though about PvP. I have been tempted to level up all the required characters but in the end my 166s and those close to that are usually more than equipped to handle whatever it throws at me so that is why I decided to just max the couple characters I use most often.

I can see that with the 4*s. Since I get them so sparingly that if I had them at their respective caps each new time wouldn't be all that bad. I just have to commit and say I am done leveling 3*s for a while though to get X-Force at his cap right now, that is like over 100 levels!

And damn, Thor and Deadpool? I am set. I will hopefully squeeze into a great bracket towards the end but if not hopefully I can at least score the Stormhawk... though really I have no idea what mine is at.. I think she is almost power maxed actually.. eh.

Should be one more event after Blade. Between two events and the Simulator (assuming you haven't already gotten to the wall), you should be able to get 1000 more points in the season.
