Lol. Gotta catch them all. So how's everyone doing with Prof x...

Hahah I don't even waste my time on 4*s right now. I don't have the time for that at all and so I am just content with my kickass 3* roster and eventual 4*s haha

Also I would have expected Daredevil to be boosted for an event that gives us Kingpin...

Got approached by some random on Facebook that added me for rewards in MPQ. He asked if I wanted to join his super competitive PvE and PvP Alliance. I said no way but he asked if I could ask around so I figured why not. I know you guys have the competitive CAG alliance but here is his info either way just so I am not a liar haha

Facebook Page:

https://www.facebook.com/jimmy.newtron.355

What he said:

Alliance is "lost ghosts" - top 25
We also have "lost ghosts 02" and "lost ghosts 03" - top 100

If you guys want to join us then we will place your members based on their last season points...
12k+ to lost ghosts
10k+ to lost ghosts 02
8k+ to lost ghosts 03
And at off season we do this again based on their last season points..

Like I said I am pretty much just posting this to be nice hahah we dont leave CAG! : P

I think I was around 5500 last season, which is part of the reason I don't want to be in a competitive PvP alliance.  The rewards are great, but I like the option to slack there if I don't need the rewards or if I need to focus on PvE.  Balance of Power does suck.  I played one match and was done.

Yeah same here about being competitive. I have gone that route and I am done haha

I do not even want to touch this Balance of Power, I couldn't care less if I don't score more IM40 covers

I am pretty happy that I was able to make top 150 in that last PvE so easily by just playing a few hours right before it ended. Not that I see myself using her much, but having her will make getting the progression reward that much easier.

And as usual, fuck 4*s haha now that I am casual there is pretty much no way for me to get them. I will have a crazy powerful 3* army but no 4*s womp womp womp

My Daken is 70 at the moment and I think I will just pour the rest of the ISO into him and use my HP to buy a cover to make him 3/3/5 and just go from there. If I like how he plays at a usable level then I will continue to 'invest' in him. I know on the forums he is ranked as one of the higher tier characters I just never have really given him a shot.
Daken has a one-two punch of passive true healing and strike tiles. He's a great climbing character in PvP, and works well with anyone who builds on strike tiles (Blade/Falcon) or has low AP powers (Psylocke/Punisher/Gamora).

The down side is he's fragile to nukes or anyone who can remove blue from the board. By himself, he's not a significant threat.

Yes, he is pretty good if he has support - Falcon or pair him off with someone that has a strong green attack so you can generate those strike tiles.

Mine is currently sitting @ 3/4/4 lvl 127

For what it's worth, Thor/Daken/Falcon has generally been my main enjoyable anti-goon squad, though recently I've been alternating that with Pun/Blade/Falcon.  (oh so many crazy strike tiles)

Now that I have Blade maxed and respec'd, Blade/Daken/Falcon is my goon/survival squad.

The final DDQ survival node gets crazy by the end. I'm usually doing at least 4k in damage from attack+strike tiles after each move on the fourth wave.

could really use a pro x. so far top 15. If i knew for a fact KAHN or whatever her name is. wont be nerfed Major (what she will be) i would not mind spending 50 bucks to buy all the covers i need for her. I mean you will almost never lose. Every time pull off a spell regain 900HP. use loki and ever 4 pink gain 900 hp

Thats an expensive gamble. I like blades passive red strike tiles. It fills the board so quick.

I had no clue we were getting ANOTHER new character already. Jeez. 3 in a row? I thought they said they acknowledged that releasing a bunch of new stuff like that one after another was not best...

Especially when I will be on vacation for the duration of the event! haha
If they introduce more 3*+ character with that locking mechanism perhaps he will be more useful but yeah I agree that right now he just seems alright.
Lock mechanism sounds like invisible woman. But you need 4 locks in order to do 190 DMG? Thats really low.

Keep in mind, that 190 is for one cover with no additional levels. At five covers and level 166, he does 2156.

Even then, I'm unimpressed. He'll be better if they bring out someone else who can lock tiles who isn't also at the bottom of the list. Additionally, his actives are the same colors as X-Force, so you'll never see him in PvP outside of his featured event. At this point in the game, if you want to go Green/Black, it has to be something worth sacrificing large amounts of damage and board shakeup, and swapping two tiles and a random critical aren't going to do it. Add in that there are very few active blue powers you would want to prioritize over other colors, and I think he gets to keep Squirrel Girl, She-Hulk and Beast company.

Maybe, just maybe, he works okay with Stormneto for a transition team. But I'd rather bring Hawkeye until I got a good 3*.

A bad mistake for me is to push Hood to the same level as Rogers - now all the blues and yellow are taken by Hood. No more meatshield.

Same level Steve will still tank yellow if Hood isn't boosted, as long as you put them in the right order. Blue... not so much.

For anyone who doesn't know (or forgot), when colors are tied, priority first goes to the middle character, then the left character, and finally the right. So, general strategy for anyone who doesn't want to do the math comparing all seven match damage numbers for your three characters, put your tank in the center spot (or left spot, if required character), and the character you most want to protect in the right spot.

All that being said, I should have stopped leveling Hood in the 130s, for this exact reason. Being a couple hundred short in HP is easier to manage when you aren't taking match damage or single target powers. It's why I've avoided leveling Loki, despite him being a key third ingredient in my Patch/Hulk gumbo.

Knew about the middle but didn't know about the priorities of left and right.

Characters that you don't need to level, and should stay lower:
- Loki

Characters that improve with levels, but primary power(s) don't need them, but underleveling will reduce color matching:
- The Hood
- Falcon

Characters that have a reason to undercover, but can otherwise level:
- Iron Man Mk 40

Otherwise, improving a character is rarely a bad idea, other than the overall game mechanics where your characters/levels affects your opponents. All four of those characters are still useful when maxed, just generally take more damage (first three) or are slower (IM40).

Thanks for the useful info and heads up, Koju. My Hood is at 110 with another blue coming up in DDQ, and my Loki and Falcon are both 89. Now I actually have a plan for some of my characters.

I've been relying pretty heavily on Luke Cage (3/3/5) and R&G (1/4/4) recently. Blade too, in some instances, but my other 3*s aren't useful enough yet when not PU. Besides the older mainstays, which characters do you find (or think could be) a necessity for most rosters? I guess of the characters released since Christmas.

Based on my roster - I rely heavily on Rogers/Falcon/Hood especially for the DPD. Have been testing out Hulk/Daken/WeaponX.

My other 3* are not that high up yet. Still waiting on a pink for Falcon. Already have blue maxed for him.

That's a hard question to answer, only because I can say anyone is good, but without events to give covers for that character, it doesn't really help. If you compare a fully covered Beast to a single cover X-Force, Beast is technically going to be more useful despite being one of the worst 3*s.

You're focusing on three good characters right now, so I wouldn't abandon developing Luke Cage, Rocket/Groot or Blade. You have really good elements of tanking, defense, and attacking. What you could really use is AoE. Kamala is the most recent character that could help with that. Looking at your roster, though, I would focus on either Thor or Deadpool. Thor has more general usage and can be a deterrent in PvP, but a developed Deadpool can help you survive long enough to use Whales on those super hard Gauntlet nodes when you really need it. That being said, Thor is in the current Tokens, and Deadpool is not. So, I would probably lean Odinson because you are more likely to get an event with Thor rewards.

Yes, stock up on the whale pts. AoE is a great must have. New update for Android is live.

Yeah I'm still fairly early in the 2*-3* transition at day 163. I'm just gathering as many covers as I can. I'm consistently top 10-20 in PvE and I'm finally consistently getting top 100 in PvP so that's helping. Cover maxed DD today but he won't get too much use yet. Hopefully my 10-pack comes good next week like last seasons did. I think I got 5 golds, including 2 4*s (SL and Fury I think). My first xforce black in two days (2/1/1...looonng way to go). The 4th purple from DDQ coming up will help Deadpool, along with another yellow for Lthor but he really needs green. I'm using Cage in both pve and pvp but mainly still PU 2* and 3* in PvE. It hurt that DP, Hood, R&G, and Patch rotated out this time.

In other news, there are some pretty major character updates coming. Could affect you pretty significantly Koju...

Edit: (Addition)
Yeah I try to save up my DP points. I had enough for 4 whale bombs last gauntlet, which helped me finish for the first time. I do really need a stronger AoE power in the 3* world. I lack BP but whales is almost there and I should get a 4th green kamala if I can finish top 100 in the DD pvp. That coupled with the season progression will make her 3/2/4.

Huh. I kind of expected a change to X-Force, but this seems kind of overboard. Invisible Woman might actually be useful now.

But my biggest concern is all the health increases. Yeah, your characters have a better chance to survive, but now all your named opponents will take longer to down.

I really don't know how I feel about this. I'm not ragequitting, but I'm certainly discouraged.

The nerf to green is pretty extreme is seems. I think they could've gotten rid of either the AP generation or AP depletion, but both seems a little harsh. Would you set him up 3/5/5 now?

All the changes are making PvP less and less appealing. They've got to drastic change the format, progression rewards, or reward structure in general. Some people in the forums were suggesting changes to health packs. Of their thoughts, I like the only use health packs on downed characters; otherwise characters who are only injured in a match are automatically healed. PvE seems generally easier now, I'd say. Is there really anything for players like you to work for anymore? 4* aren't any better than 3*s now. And they're definitely not worth the effort to cover and level them.

It's unfortunate for me because I've already leveled my 3*s to 89-110, so I doubt I'll benefit from the decrease in leveling costs at lower levels. Again, their changes help 'new' players like me. They have already gotten all the money they think they'll get from older players I guess. Or they know experienced players now know not to throw money out there because it'll end up being for nothin. This is a big blow for all the experienced PvPers out there

Is there really anything for players like you to work for anymore?
For me, it is the collecting aspect of the game that keeps me playing. Building a better roster meant better placement leading to better rewards. So, in that regard, there is still a reason for me to play.

Am I bummed that my best character is being cut off at the knees? Yeah. But the writing was on the wall when Goddess was 'funbalanced'. Any character could have the same thing happen, it's happened to Spider-Man, Magneto, Sentry, Ragnarok, and probably someone else I don't recall. I still think the health increases without damage increases is going to be the ultimate problem.

Luke Cage moves from 'really good' to 'amazing' in this new environment. And actually, I guess Punisher and Deadpool get a nice boost out of this. Bigger health pools = bigger damage on red.

And actually, I guess Punisher and Deadpool get a nice boost out of this. Bigger health pools = bigger damage on red.
I wonder if Deadpools red will scale up with the health increases. The 6800 health tier really benefits. Blade, GSBW, Kamala, DD, and even falcon and HT definitely benefit. And I agree with you on cage. That's great for me

So, with all the incoming character changes, who should I be spending my iso on?  X-Force, IW?  I did really like Daredevil in the last PvP, especially if I re-spec him to increase his stun.

I'm hesitant to spend any ISO I don't need to, because of the price changes coming in R75:

Iso-8 Leveling Costs Update - Coming in R75

Finally, we’re making some changes in level-up costs for 3-Star and 4-Star characters. In order to help players get their 3-Star and 4-Star characters into a useful state more quickly, we’re making it cheaper to level them up at lower levels. We don’t have final numbers at the moment, so stay tuned.

This change will not change the levels of any existing characters, but they will immediately become cheaper to level up.

EDIT - The total amount needed to level up 3-star and 4-star characters is decreasing. This will not change the current level of the character, but the cost to level up will be less than or equal to what it was before.
I had originally intended to put some levels into Magneto for this PvE, but have tried to resist leveling anyone. (It's bugging me that I have the ISO to max Luke Cage, but know it could be cheaper soonish.)

I kind of feel like we got an ad leak for Black Friday with that information. No refunds, no price matching, so you might as well wait.

Thanks for reminding me! I thought there was a reason I was saving it. So now the question is, how much will it change and who should I spend it on after the update?

They are still working out the details, but I think they are waiting for another Friday to say something like "Completely leveling a 3* now costs 20k ISO less! Unfortunately, all of those savings were on levels 40 to 100, and if your characters are already level 100 or higher, thanks for playing!" I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be surprised.

That being said, I personally am going to resist leveling 4* characters beyond 166. Once they change X-Force, I think I'm going to have a rough couple of events where the scaling is based on having him maxed, and Goddess not much further behind. Professor X seems like the best bet in this tier, but IW's new configuration looks interesting (costs more than X-Force, but you can kind of direct the board shaking).

At the 3* tier, I looked at your roster. My short list of folks you have covered (or almost) but not capped, in no particular order:
Punisher - wouldn't have suggested before the health changes, now he's a bigger threat
Daken - passive strike tiles + passive true healing = utility character who doesn't need health packs
Magneto - blue is still crazy powerful, red will make it easier to collect colors you need
Human Torch - his health boost will make him less fragile, makes a good Daken partner

Maybes:
She-Hulk - Her changes are good for AP reduction, but loss of countdown functionality on blue not good
Daredevil - He is great when boosted, and his blue is excellent, but red and purple too situational
Kamala - You need more covers, but yellow will be really good in the new health game
Rocket & Groot - Need more covers, yellow and blue good, but his green is a waste
Doctor Doom - I like him, but he's not high end. If you play LRs, maybe bump him higher

Need more covers (you already know this), otherwise would be in the first list:
Blade - Getting his purple to 5 is crazy good, especially if someone else can make strike tiles
Luke Cage - I have been using him a lot lately, his red goes a long way towards reducing health pack usage
Iron Fist - People will skip you in PvP just to avoid the guaranteed damage
Cyclops - The forums really like him, his new health will bump him up as a top end single target damage dealer

But to be honest, you already have a strong set of 166s. I would make the call based on who you like playing when the game encourages you to use someone you don't normally, or if there is someone who would work well as a rainbow with two other characters you are already using.

just won a yellow sentry and 1000hp from ddq - 2 gold out of 10 pulls.

Does any of you have a team of 1* to get the extra 2k iso from ddq?

That's awesome! I think I've pulled 250 HP twice. I just have a fully leveled Juggs. He's enough to get through the one star node by himself.

Ah!

I have been on vacation the past week just logging on before bed or right when I woke up to get my DPD's in and I come back and see talk of a bunch of new changes? I am crazy swamped here at work trying to catch up from this past week. Anyone care to recap/link all of the upcoming character balance update/patch info?

There's a bunch. Updates and health changes:

Miles from Demiurge here to let you know about some new character updates that are coming soon to Marvel Puzzle Quest.

Invisible Woman (Classic) - Coming 4/17/15
Invisible Woman is our 2nd oldest 4-Star character and has been waiting patiently for an update for a long time. When we originally designed her, we were balancing for a version of the game with longer, more difficult matches. In that version of the game, powerful, high-cost powers have more use and damage prevention is more powerful. When re-evaluating her abilities, we had a big focus on utility. Her two unique powers got a lot cheaper, allowing players to use them much more frequently. She should be locking tiles and making people invisible all the time, not occasionally at the end of the match.

Elektra (Unkillable) - Coming 4/17/15
Elektra is a very unique character in MPQ. She plays very differently from other characters in that she is capable of dealing huge amounts of damage but only indirectly. She’s also the only character in the game who can stop any amount of damage. We wanted to update Elektra, but maintain her unique playstyle, and we found we were able to make her more powerful without being unbalanced.

Wolverine (X-Force) - Coming 4/17/15
X-Force was our first 4-star character. He’s been through a few incarnations, some too weak and some too powerful. We’ve realized that we’d made him too powerful compared to other characters, especially the AP generation and cascade potential of his most recent Black and Green abilities. We’ve re-designed him to bring those abilities into line. The damage of Surgical Strike and Recovery had room to grow, so we’ve increased that as part of this rework.

Beast (Classic) - Coming 4/17/15
We think we captured the essence of Beast as a character, but he wasn’t very useful, and players didn’t feel there was a strong reason to bring him to a fight over other characters. Considering that the bulk of Beast’s power banks on the presence of Blue special tiles, we made his Blue more reliable. The original design made it too easy to match away the special tiles it created, but this re-design solves that problem. We also increased the strength of his other two powers.

Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius) - Coming 4/17/15
Doctor Octopus is an interesting take on a utility character. He manipulates the game board and reacts to actions instead of directly damaging other characters. He has a huge breadth of ability effects, but there are a lot of times when only a few of those effects are useful. We wanted to really focus on increasing the usefulness of his different powers with this update.

She-Hulk (Modern) - Coming 4/17/15
She-Hulk also has a wide variety of powers. Her Blue power was overly complex, and useful only in very specific situations, and the power to give her team a burst of health doesn’t really fit into her comic book persona. We’ve updated both her Green and Blue abilities with the goal of making them simpler and more useful.

Character Health Update - Coming 4/17/15
As you may have noticed, many of the characters listed above have received updates to the amount of health they have. They are just the tip of the iceberg! Most characters are going to be receiving a health upgrade. Characters with less health are getting the biggest increase, while characters with a relatively high amount of health aren’t changing at all. Here’s a list of all the characters that are going to be affected.

Lower-health characters trade health for stronger powers, but the health penalty they were paying was too large compared to how much stronger their powers were getting. This update lowers the health penalty they pay.

TL:DR - Invisible Woman, Elektra, Wolverine X-Force, Beast, Doctor Octopus, She-Hulk and Health updates coming 4/17/15. Iso-8 Leveling costs update coming in R75.

As part of these changes, we’ll be offering increased sell prices on the 6 characters listed above. Invisible Woman, Elektra and Wolverine X-Force will have double the normal Hero Point increased sell prices.

Other characters with increased sell prices (Iron Fist, Magneto (Marvel NOW!), Mystique, Thor (Goddess of Thunder), Ragnarok) will be returned to their normal sell price when these changes take effect.

It sucks that the reduced leveling cost won't come until r75, since r74 is the next update.

There's a bunch. Updates and health changes:

It sucks that the reduced leveling cost won't come until r75, since r74 is the next update.
Holy poop that is a ton, I will probably read bit by bit throughout the day. Thanks! I did see the ISO cost thing and that does suck, it makes me want to just horde ISO rather than spend any now.

I was trying to do that, but then I got today's Blade cover, and a Cyclops token so I spent quite a bit.  I would dump whatever I had left in Daredevil for the event, but I'm going to try and hold off.  I might need it for Mystique if she is going to be boosted for the next new character.

I really didn't feel like doing all this work I have ahead of me so I just ended up reading all the changes instead hahah.

Beast and Doc Ock still seem pretty lame to me and the Shulk changes are nice but nothing that makes me want to use her.

That really sucks about X-Force though since I never was able to get mine leveled up it doesn't really impact me much at all other than perhaps not seeing him so much in PvP.

Still not sure how I feel about IW. Her changes seem good but still not anything amazing. They do seem solid enough though that I may finally use her.

Elektra is still dumb to me.

I am NOT digging the massive health increases across the board though. Not only does that lessen what makes the powerful guys great but that also means matches will last longer than they already do now. I know the logic is that the moves have become more powerful, but none of these upcoming changes are really going to alter that and we all have gotten used to the damage % moves do in relation to the current health pools.

Lame.

Overall I am not digging the update. Especially them SAYING they will change the ISO amount needed but not even being close to that date which just makes it feel like a waste to spend ISO since we are not going to get retroactively reimbursed for the difference I bet.
