If you're willing to hang on to them for at least a year, you'll make about double what you paid for each copy. The Mass Effect series is from Bio Ware and they do not screw around when they say "limited" edition.
Case in point; Last year when "Dragon Age II" was released, people who pre-ordered the game received the "Signature Edition" which was basically just like the regular edition, but with a different cover and free DLC codes.
The "Signature Edition" disappeared from retailers very fast, within about 10 days and some big box retailers never even stocked the "Signature Edition". About 14 days after the release, people were still able to get lucky when other people did not pick up their pre-orders, etc. at places like Gamestop. A month after the game was released, no brick and mortar retail Gamestop (at least in my area of operations) had long since sold out.
Mass Effect 3 N7 Edition is limited. It hasn't even been a month yet since the game came out and everyone is already jumping to conclusions that the game has been "reprinted" or was never really "limited" in the first place.
It has a strong enough fanbase who will spend money on it to warrant the rarity of all the limited editions of the games which have been released.
A quick look at DAII signature edition prices on ebay shows that your reasoning to be false....folks would be lucky to get their all of their capital back after fees and expenses on that game nowadays. And there were exactly 4 new DAII signature editions (PS3 & Xbox) sold on ebay by US sellers over the last 2 weeks....not exactly a hot bed of activity.
EA clearly produced many more ME3 CEs than ME2 CEs, and given the way the game pans out, I seriously doubt there will be lots folks who bought the ME3 regular edition that will have the burning need to go buy the CE...There will be some for sure, but far fewer than with ME2 (ME2 CE exclusive armor and gun were quite useful...ME3 has tons of guns and armor for everyone, so the CE goodies aren't that valuable for folks looking for help for an insanity run achievement).....so lower post release demand and higher supply of CEs....Yeah, that's something to speculate in.
Next you'll be saying that house prices can never drop and can only go up.
