Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

Oh yeah. Mass Effect = Day One. Period.
Same here.

I think I did wait for the DA: O DLC to go on sale, since I went right into DA2 from DA: O and passed on the DLC initially. DA2 DLC I did pick up for full price, I think.

Damn you Bioware for taking all my MS spacebucks for your fine DLC.

paid full price for:

Citadel

From Ashes (got it with the CE that I got at launch)

Pinnacle Station (caved on it just a couple months ago...yeah...)

Arrival

Lair of the Shadow Broker

Kasumi DLC

paid sale prices for:

Leviathan

Omega

Overlord

Bring Down The Sky (Platinum Hits copy of ME1, so I count it as a sale)

Funny story about the ME2 DLC.  I bought Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi in December 2010 as an end of semester treat to myself.  I actually walked 20 minutes in the freezing New Hampshire December cold to the local Walmart to buy a 1600 points card (I dont think Amazon was doing codes then or at least I wasnt aware of it) and somehow lost $5 in the street on the way back...  but it was still so worth it to play LOTSB all night.  Then literally a week later, they all went on sale for 200 MSP each!  Thank goodness, I had enough MSP in my account to get Overlord from that at least.

Side note, anybody wanna sell me on that ME3 weapon pack on sale?  Are the guns in it good for SP?

Well, I just finished Deus Ex:HR (director's cut)  for the first time and I was surprised at a similarity to ME3.  DE:HR spoilers within...

So, at the end of DE, Jensen finds himself injured and in a control room.  In that room are three computer consoles and three buttons he can press.  A holographic AI speaks to him and presents him with his options, none of which are ideal, but he has to choose. I had an immense sense of deja vu as I played this last night.  I expected to hear a tribute from Liara at the end.

I'm too lazy to look at the DE forums, but did anyone here play this and think the same thing?  In any case, I never minded the "choice" ending of ME3 and it worked in DE:HR too.  Surprised I hadn't heard comparisons before though.

But DE:HR was fantastic and I recommend it to all.

Now back to trying to resist buying new clothes for the crew of the Normandy out of the 99-cent bin...

Yes, there's a special term oh they Deus Exed it and it relates to the original Deus Ex.

Just did the Leviathan mission again for Mass Effect 3, the recent EA sale got me thinkin' Mass Effect, and interestingly enough this time found a bug. Don't get out of the mech, why you would I don't know but I'm a risk taker (my father's favorite words) lol, if you're next to cover because afterwards you can't press A to get back in, you'll just shoot over to hide behind cover with getting into the mech grayed out. The biggest drawback to having "A" do so many things in a game - too many times would I shoot into cover when I wanted to pick something up next to it. Luckily going back to the last autosave was literally a minute ago so powered up the door, grabbed the mech, obliterated all and brought it to Cortez. Then went deep deep deep down into the darkness below.

Yeah contemplating weapon/outfit pack and Genesis 2.
I have Genesis 2 and it's worth it. I found it entertaining and like how Shepard narrates it, just like Gen1. Plus, it helps if you just want to jump into ME3 with a new build and try something out.

I'm on the fence with the weapon packs, too. There are so many good weapons, I feel like it's unnecessary. But the completionist in my wants it all. I do plan on getting the alt appearance pack, tho.

I agree with this. I like the appearance packs, but weapons packs for ME3 felt superfluous because there are already so many weapons in the base game. But that's another thing I preferred about ME2: a small number of weapons that were all immediately distinct from one another, as opposed to 900 weapons with slight variations. I still bought everything though.

Oh dang, did you guys see this?  $40 at the biowarestore website http://www.biowarestore.com/collectibles/alliance-shuttle-ship-replica.html

You're welcome, my friend.  ;)

There are some cool ships available, but I'll be damned, give me Destiny Ascension!  Or a Reaper at that smaller scale.  Or, hell, a Mako!  No amount of money would keep me from a Mako replica.

This is really the one that is tempting me. I always liked the Turian cruisers for some reason.

I like how if you pay attention and really look, you can see the Turian influence in the Normandy when you look at their ships.  Little things like the double wing-tip on the nose of the ship.  Cool stuff.

Wow I'm running into glitches this time, hmmm. Ok, just ran into a glitch on Aralakh company's mission where the cutscene didn't trigger after I took out all the enemies. Was running all over the place to find the last barrier generator when I went hmm, maybe something went wrong because I haven't found it and it wasn't this hard last playthrough. Again luckily autosave was only a few minutes back, phew. Weird, that didn't happen the first time. Anyway got to see the other way things unfolded, pretty much new dialogue, for the
fake Rachni Queen
due to my Renegade ME2 import, although I forgot and made him Paragon in ME3 - oh well.

That's one thing I want in ME4, a freakin' log book. Especially after completing that mission, pop status and then disappear. Wait, I didn't get all that, did I do Renegae or was that spelled Reputation?

Haha yeah that's a classic.

So I finally nabbed the Meticulous achievement off Omega, first time through I missed it. This time I used a guide so I didn't miss that damn couch! Got a big Total Recall (the good one) vibe when I was fighting in the mines of Omega again and the
Adjutant creatures were a nice spin on the usual combat sequence - cool that I read about them in the comics
. Running as a Hardcore Paragon Engineer with the Raptor and Eagle as my weapons of choice, Flare for my bonus power. Upgraded my combat drone for close range, turret for long range, and it's pretty awesome having fire or ice attacks whenever you want them.

lol
A dramatic reading from Commander Shepard:
http://youtu.be/mhjvtxtq5wc
Did Bioware's audio engineers make his voice more gruffy? Dunno, maybe it's just me, since I have only played Femshep. Thank God for ME's ridiculously great soundtrack, because that makes everything sound epic. Btw, tonight I'm going to dive back into ME3 playing The Citadel for the first time. I really hope I can resist the urge to replay the whole trilogy. My backlog wouldn't survive that.

Haha yeah that's a classic.

I think I missed that damn couch when I went through it the first time, though I'm not sure if I did it the second time. Damn, have to go back and check.

I missed the couch at first too, thankfully I had a save right before that area so didnt take much to get it again.

Tonight, I think I will finally wrap up Leviathan.  Been playing off and on for too long with it.

Not game related but I picked up the Shepard Male play kai arts toy for $48 new and Ashley play kai arts for only $31 new on Amazon this week. Very happy with the prices. I own a ps4, but I went thru Me1 all over again and am going to go thru Me2/Me3 on insanity this time with some different choices to see what happens.

Alright two left now:

Picked up The One and Only so all I got left to do now is do my ME3 Insanity run and I'll nab both  Unwavering & Insanity.

That Mirror Match was difficult because I was a Vanguard lol, plus it turned into a CoD grenade spam battle.

Ah, yes. The elusive Omega couch. I think everyone missed that the first time through.
See, I felt stupid because I found the lousy couch but missed one of the terminals the first time around. I was so excited when I found the couch and then baffled when the achievement didn't pop.

Wow, I forgot how long it has been since I played ME3. I spent the first hour of the Citadel DLC dying over and over again. I played countless hours of multiplayer and never had a problem with ME3's controls, but after my love affair with TLoU, ME3's controls and cover mechanic feel rather stiff. Anyone else here who feels the same?

I don't think you'll find much agreement here, ME3's controls feel more natural and are easier to come back to than any game I've ever played. Maybe it's because I played so much of the MP and that's only a fraction of some of my other friends time with the game.

Like I said, I definitely felt the same way you do, when I was addicted to ME3 and its mp playing nothing else. I'm just having a hard time getting back into the groove after playing The Last of Us, which handles camera, movement and context sensitive cover mechanics just more fluidly.

I found TLOU kind of clunky compared to some other games but that's just me. I kept wishing that I was Nathan Drake instead and could just mow down everybody with my AK instead of all that sneaking and brick-throwing.

yeah, I didnt get into TLOU much either.  I thought it was a decent game but nowhere near the GOTY that everybody else thinks it is.

Anyway, I finished up Leviathan finally.  Gotta say...I'm glad I only spent 400 MSP on it.  The story was interesting (if a little short) but the combat was such a cakewalk.  Also didnt really like the lack of choice regarding its ending.

Was it a cakewalk because it was easy or because you're a master in Mass Effect combat? :twoguns:

I really liked Leviathan, neat little detective side quest, but with the context of the story kinda felt like it was more of a main mission than side.

I love how much there's two games to Mass Effect games, the run and gun and the X-com tactical pause and go. Def need to do the latter with higher difficulties.

Leviathan always felt like an intermission to me, but I enjoyed it. The little quips in the dialogue from the lab scenes on the Citadel make it worth playing.

I have played so much ME3 over the past 2 years, just about every section seems like a cakewalk now. Even the final battle on Tuchanka didn't get my heart rate up the last time I played it. But too much Mass Effect is never a bad thing.

Thanks to picking up a $25 Xbox card for $18.75 last week at BB, I ended up splurging on the alternate appearance pack and Genesis 2...I'm almost tempted to buy some other ME goodies now.

I'm almost considering the avatar stuff now too hah.  Only reason I hesitate is that I am still rocking my Gold Spartan Armor from the Presidental debates...

Confession time: I'm a bit of an avatar lover.  I don't know why, but I love that little dork.  I've spent too much on avatar stuff over the years.  Nothing too crazy, maybe $30 total.  You can get a ton of stuff free, some of its even decent and some of the very best stuff has been via achievements in games.  The omni blade being a prime example.  I did spring for the Admiral Anderson outfit, N7 armor and a couple shirts from ME3, the armor and helmet from ME2 and a couple things from ME1.

Hoo boy, I don't really want to think about how much I've spent on avatar clothes... It's probably a lot.

In terms of ME stuff I've got the ME2 N7 armor, the ME3 Anderson outfit, and a beanie. Plus a few t-shirts and props that have been free from various promos or achievement unlocks.

Hey, Ryuu.....knowing what I know about your taste in games (we like similar stuff) remember how giddy you probably were over the FFXIII preorder spandex soldier suit?  That thing is fugly, but I loved it!  And I joined twitter only to get the FFXIII Chocobo chick.

Sorry to derail from all things ME, gang.

Aw jeah, I love that outfit, and the chocobo chick. There's (still) something enticingly taboo about the melding of Final Fantasy and Xbox. It's like the forbidden fruit.

One thing I liked and thought some developers did well - while others just unlocked stupid t-shirts - was having avatar rewards for completing certain objectives for Xbox 360 games. Say like going through all of the campaign of L4D and unlocking the red health kit you can have on your avatar's back. I beat Doom II and got the Doom Guy's suit which was pretty cool. Also got in on with the gold Spartan suit too and I donned the Pinball Wizard shirt for some time too.

I only bought Mass Effect hat, N7 & Commander Shepard shirt, Normandy prop and Garrus' eye piece. Most of the time it was with the little points I had left over, tricky tricky Microsoft.

Love the Omniblade and helmet you unlock for ME3. Believe it or not, really not challenging to get both.

I finally bought the DLC so I could finish ME2 and move onto ME3.

I bought everything but Omega and Overlord (I decided to just watch those on Youtube).

I'm so glad my friend convinced me to buy the DLC.

I can't imagine the game without the extra characters and Lair of the Shadow Broker was amazing.

I'm just loving this series so much. I can't wait to get to the Citadel DLC!

Personally, I really liked Overlord too.  Its a little pricey, but the mission locale is neat, good character interaction, and one of my favorite Mass Effect pastimes, shooting Geth! :D

As far as avatar stuff I too liked the Omniblade and helmet, also have a free Normandy from the CE I think.  I may spring for N7 armor and the Reaper just to change up my avatar a bit, hah.
