are you doing the side quests? I beat a bunch of side quest and got both the shotgun, and the pistol achievment along with the throw and barrier ones. My second play through will consist of getting the engineer ones. Anyone else notice how easy it is to get the rich achievment?

Money maxes out at 9,999,999 so yeah, I noticed. Besides master gear theres not much to buy.

[quote name='SpikeSpiegel']Is there a way to steady the sniper? I might have missed it.

I need help with a side quest, It isn't a vital piece of the story but I'll still mark it.

I forgot which planet Wrex's armor was on, any help? I had to come back because my decrypt skill wasn't high enough.
[/quote]
Yes if you put your points into sniper, you can unlock assassiate, I think it's called, and using this ability steadies the sniper rifle and does more damage.

Question to you guys, I created a new career with my existing character but forgot to change difficulty. When is it too late to change to hard in order to get the achievement? I'm still on the citadel in the beginning after I met up with the Quarian.

It's too late already unfortunately. You can't change the difficulty at all. Gotta start at Hard from beginning to end. Even says so in the achievement I believe.

That's almost exactly what my Shepard looks like. Except she has dark skin, a scar on her face, and the lipstick is more red.

It's to late after Eden Prime. That's the point of no return for the achievement.

Yea I read the achievement and I was hoping that you couldn't go from hard to normal but normal to hard. I thought the enemies would be a bit harder or have better stats considering I'm starting the game at level 36 or whatever but it doesn't seem like it.

How exactly do you earn money? Because I beat the game, never spent a cent, and didn't hit a million credits.

kill things or sell stuff. near the end of the game, usually each enemy kill will net you roughly 15000 credits.

Finished on normal with ~1/2 the achievements unlocked, clocked in at 17 hours! This is my favorite title of the year, and I fully plan to stretch that 17 hour mark into 30 or 40. This is definitely a keeper!

Well im thinking i might be able to get the shotgun one as well, since im a soldier i have no engineering ones i can get. Ive done every side quest i could find so far.

I've only finished Feros/Noveria/the other place, along with some sidequests, and I have the Pistol, Shotgun, Barrier, and Throw achievements.

Well I would have been a lot happier when I come across that if I hadn't read your post first

Can someone point me in the right direction of where you get the salarian team member? I am already over 8 hours into the game and he hasn't shown up yet. Wondering if I missed something really obvious somewhere...

I don't think you can ever get a salarian. expect to have one in the second or third game.

Make sure to do the stupid salvage and surveying missions on planets if you're passing by them... they net like 15k credits and all you have to do is hit a few buttons.

Question on new careers. If i have a soldier and start a new career with sentinel I need to save it in different slot right?

Not sure how saving works with multiple charachters

[quote name='Brian9824']Question on new careers. If i have a soldier and start a new career with sentinel I need to save it in different slot right?

Not sure how saving works with multiple charachters[/quote]

I'm pretty sure the save system works one of three ways:

One
Save system is tied to the character name, so if you create a character with a different name, you may end up with a previously same named characters saves to overwrite. There are, however, 14 save slots and 1 auto.

Two
The save system is different so long as you pick at least one different option in character creation.

Three
Each character has a different unique ID and will always be seperate even if everything about them is the same.

I'm tempted to try out the first one so I can cross it off (and I almost did) but then I realized that my auto-save was probably my last save on my mains profile and I hadn't done a normal save in hours. So I didn't want to test that theory yet. (Of course the manual might directly tell you how it works too, but I can't check on that as I'm at work)

Outside of saving, when you select "Resume" it will select your latest saved game, whatever character that may of been under your profile. Now you can also select "Load Career" which will let you pick the character you wish to load and then you select the save from that carrer (with auto-save being the top option).

I'm basically just trying to figuire out how it works so i don't make a new charachter and save over old file. Once I unlock barrier achievment i'm going to make a soldier with barrier and start playing him a little bit.

Just pick a different name and you'll have no problems what so ever. I have three going right now.

[quote name='Danil ACE']How exactly do you earn money? Because I beat the game, never spent a cent, and didn't hit a million credits.[/quote] Did you just kept turning your item pickups into omni-gel, or did you sell them to NPCs?

A surprisingly-large amount of people didn't realize you can sell your junk by flicking the left stick to sell mode. You probably knew that, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

35 hours in and I have about 2 mil. Spent around 1.5 mil on gear (mostly Spectre and the pseudo-Russian stuff).

In case anyone wants a decent list of the achievement bonuses:

Bonus Talent Achievements

Bonus Talents are gained through the gain of achievements in Mass Effect. Once you've gained said achievement, you must create a new character and you will be able to pick a one time bonus talent (skill) for your character. Unfortunetly these cannot be added to existing characters via New Game+ who do not have a Bonus Talent yet.

A trick to gaining most, if not all, of these achievements is pretty simple. Just get high enough level to unlock the said skill for use and then find a group of enemies (if required) to use the said skill on. Save before you fight the group of enemies and then kill them. Once they're all dead, reload that last save and repeat until you've gained the said achievement.

[AI Hacking Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Reverse Engineering'
[Assault Rifle Expert] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Assault Rifle'
[Barrier Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Barrier'
[Damping Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Shielding'
[First Aid Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'First Aid'
[Lift Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Lift'
[Neural Shock Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Medicine'
[Overlord Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Electronics'
[Sabotage Specialist] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Decryption'
[Shotgun Expert] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Shotgun'
[Singularity Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Singularity'
[Sniper Expert] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Sniper Rifle'
[Stasis Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Stasis'
[Throw Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Throw'
[Warp Mastery] --- Unlocks Bonus Talent 'Warp'

Passive/Permanent Bonus Achievements

All ally related achievements require you to play through 75% of the game with that squad member. So if you get them late in the game, starting from that point you need to complete 75% of the game. So basically you don't want to do any side quests until you've got your desired squad members to obtain the achievements you want.

[Asari Ally] --- Stasis and Barrier recharge speeds reduced by 10%
[Completionist] --- Experience gain increased 5%
[Dog of War] --- 10% Health
[Extreme Power Gamer] --- All experience bonuses gain an additional 5%
[Geth Hunter] --- 10% Shield Strength
[Krogan Ally] --- 1hp/sec regen
[Long Service Medal] --- 5% Weapon Damage Bonus
[Pistol Expert] --- Marksman duration increased 25%
[Power Gamer] --- +10% Experience Reward Bonus
[Quarian Ally] --- AI Hacking and Sabotage recharge speeds reduced by 10%
[Sentinal Ally] --- Lift and Throw recharge speeds reduced by 10%
[Soldier Ally] --- +10% Damage Reduction
[Tactician] --- +10% Shield Strength
[Turian Ally] --- Overload and Damping recharge speeds reduced by 10%

[Medal of Valor] --- Unlock Gamer Picture

[Rich] --- Spectre Weapons available for purchase (Rank X available at Lvl 50+)

Free Charm/Intimidate Points

This requires much time and many playthroughs. Like pretty much every other skill, these also have 12 slots to fill even though you may not see all 12 right away. Now when you become a Spectre, you will automatically gain one of each. Beyond that depending on how you answer in dialogue sequences will net you points over time. So good answers will net you Charm and asshole'ish answers will net you Intimidate over time.

Infinite Paragon/Renegade Points

On the planet Feros, you are asked to get a card to access the garage. When you do the required task in the Turians room to get his data, you leave and are confronted by the secretary. She will feed you some info about talking to her in the hotel bar before you give the data to the Turian. Do so and she will ask you to convince the Turian to testify. Finally go and talk to the Turian and depending how you try to get him to testify will either result in +24 Paragon or +24 Renegade points. You can then leave the conversation and then open it again to repeat this process for more points.

I believe 5 Charm or Intimidate is required to be able to get the options to select during the dialoge.

I made some changes that I think are for the better and added in some more info, which isn't mine but I don't remember where I specifically got all the info. I had compiled it for some time, mostly through my friend and don't have any actual links to each part in particular. However I did notice the Charm/Intimidate thing myself and added on to what was originally said in your quote.

Thanks for the info on it either way, I was going to do a whole run through just for the Renegade achievement (plus two of the ally achievements), and this will save me hours of playtime that I could be using on my Hardcore play through :)

Edit: Put in Quote tags

Okay...I've logged in about four hours of playtime in one day (which is a TON for me), and I have this to say so far: WOW. I'm not normally a fan of RPGs, which puts this on an even higher level of acclaim from me because I don't want to stop playing it. Most games I start up and can put down whenever (the last one to actually grab me and make me want to play it until I beat it was Bioshock; before that, Gears; before that, Doom 3), but this has gripped me and, furthermore, I'm not even TRYING to beat it. I'm having a blast just exploring the side planets and marvelling at the architecture, races, and side quests.

Good job, Bioware.

Beat the game and it was pretty amazing. I can see how the combat system may not be to everyone's liking, but I found it worked very well (minus those few moments where I got killed before I had a clue what was going on).

I searched for this but I couldn't find anything close to an answer: for the sequel(s),
does anyone know if Bioware has said anything about carring over our current Shepherd characters? I know they did it before with Baldur's Gate II, so I'm hopeful.

I remember some magazine review had a bullet along the lines of: "? Will we REALLY be able to carry our characters over to the next game?"

That's not really helpful, is it?

Yes, according to the new Game Informer, which has a bioware interview. They said that it is very important to them that you can carry your character throughout the trilogy.

Does that include all your skills and abilities and stats and items etc? Is it literally just going to be the name and the face or will it be more?

I just got it today from gamefly. I really can't tell if I like it or not, I haven't played a game like this yet. im at
The Prologue still where I need to find Joker in the cockpit
Does it get a lot better? So far im really not grasped into it at the point that I cant stop playing...

Here is the direct quote from Greg Zeschuk the president of bioware when asked about the next game. " That's one of the tricky things about doing a trilogy. How do you make it fit together? I can be definitive in saying that we are defintely going to use the save file that the original created. But beyond that we're still in the process of how we're trying to tell, you have to have each installment feel like you've accomplished something significant. You can't feel like you're in the middle act and nothing's really resolved. You want each act to have you do something cool; it's got to start right and end right. the other thing to think about is that in between the installments we're doing some post-release content that will be interesting to folks.

From what is sounds like they will be taking you whole character, maybe adding skill slots, maybe even who skills. Either way bioware knows what they are doing and I wouldn't doubt that the next game will be better then this one.

[quote name='Jesus_S_Preston']I remember some magazine review had a bullet along the lines of: "? Will we REALLY be able to carry our characters over to the next game?"

I would love to see the sequels deal with entirely different characters.

A privateer type game screams to be made in this universe.

What you saw in the Prologue chapter is a pretty good indication of what kind of gameplay you will be seeing... go through a linear level with a pretty constant stream of battles and cut scenes explaining the story until you reach the end or fight a boss. That being said, the combat and story get better and better as the game goes on.

Great game so far (couple hours in) but what retard decided to map grenades to the "back" button and used TWO buttons for "holster/unholster"? It REALLY wouldn't have been better to stick grenades on X and holster/unholster, as a single function, on B?

That sounds good I think... I guess i'll play through another level and then decide whether to keep it for awhile or send it back :) Thanks

Really there is no reason to even have a holster button... you already pull out your weapons automatically when you go to fire with right trigger or when you go to switch weapons with left bumper. The control scheme is considerably more convoluted than it needs to be... I wish they would just take a page from Gears of War in that respect.

Halfway through my second playthrough. Haven't noticed anything mind blowingly different depending on what you do first or how you choose to do them. They're different enough though. Also, I agree that the planet side quests aren't fun do to a lack of design. The One warehouse you found that body is the same as that one on that other planet where you met _____ and a dozen others like it. I kinda wish they had just put those side missions on the main worlds.

Speaking of the sequal, I hope you get to visit some of these species' homeworlds. I'd like to see where Hanar's (jelly guys) came from or the quarian migrant fleet .

[quote name='Agrippan']I'd like to see what the quarians and volus really look like.[/QUOTE]
Anyone else think Tali was kind of hot, even though you couldn't see her face...

Anybody else find it strange that the game makes a big deal about Asari being a female-only race, yet you only see male Turians, Krogan, Volus, Salarian, female Quarian, etc. :whistle2:k

Last night I just found out what that trinket the Asari Consort gives you is used for.
