Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts
This game has frozen up on my 11 times! Anyone else having this problem, I'm gonna stop playing it if it keeps up
Sounds like your 360's on its deathbed.
Sounds like your 360's on its deathbed.
This is the only game that I've had a problem with

too many spoilers >_<

I agree that the side missions seemed a bit bland... plus I think more planets would be a bit more developed... as for the mako, I have no problems with it and have a hard time seeing what's wrong with it.

Is there supposed to be a good/dark side for this game? Like in KOTOR and JE you can be either. Do they have that in this game?
How many hours did it take you? Did you do all the side quests or just blow through the main story? When you replay through, can you start at level 50 with a new character or can you only do a New Game + if you use your old character?
Only 15 hours which shocked the hell out of me. This time I'm doing everything!

Which allies did you use, Draekon?

So far I've been using Wrex and Garrus.

Also, how many side quests are available at the citadel? I want to make sure I got them all.

just started my second play throught, didn't know I was at the end the first time so I only got to 45. Going renegade this time and getting to 60.

It's on my achievement list if you know who they link to, but I used
Tali and Wrex.

As for how many side quests are available? I have no idea. I know I still missed plenty but at around 45 I hit the completionist achievement. So that's around 75%, which includes the beginning of the game and
two
storyline planets I believe.

They have a system like it, except more fleshed out from what I understand. In ME, the two sides are either Paragon or Renegade. Paragon where you're a Spectre who's more goody goody and you play by the rules, and Renegade where you usually do stuff that might be considered not so legal, or not so moral.

Wish there were more "defend this location for 5 minutes" side quests. Just did one of those (and probably the only one in the game) and it was a very refreshing breather from the "go into this mine and fuck everyone up" quests.
Well, I beat the game early this morning from a bit of a gaming splurge yesterday.

Likes
- Story
- The characters
- The dialogue
- Achievement integration into the game
- Some of the side quests were very interesting and fun
- The ending

Dislikes
- MAKO Handling (Very loose and does not represent the physics that type of vehicle would display)
- Lack of actual cities/towns/villages/etc on planets outside the main story
- Reused building interiors on planets
- Squad AI (Even when ordering commands follow/move/stop/etc)
- Too many side quests felt like I one of the last few I did
- The large collectable side quests are not fun
- Cover system (I'm not a fan of stick covering)
- Lack of skill customization beyond the Bonus Talent & Specialization
- Some skills feel weak in terms of what they do as you level them

Overall enjoyed it a lot and will go through it two more times at least to get the Insane Difficulty and Ally Achievements.
That is exactly how I feel. Although I do have a few more complaints. The autosave feature in this game is horrible. The game is too damn hard sometimes. The game will be at a easy/moderate difficulty and have a lot of really hard difficulty spikes that are very out of place. By the way I am playing the game right, haha. I am taking cover and thinking out my actions, giving different commands to my character and teammates. The game is just too hard sometimes and couple that with a crappy autosave feature it makes me pretty angry. If you get defensive about being able to save manually, look, I do use it but when I am immersed into the game and want to just play I tend to forget about saving, but when I die I expect that I will load back to about 3 minutes ago because I just hit a major point in the game. Instead I get thrown back to when I landed on the fucking planet.

Oh and the graphical and framerate issues are stupid. It is rediculous how many flaws this game has.

What saves the game is everything Draekon said he likes and how fun the combat is.

I agree with Draekon that the MAKO doesn't actually represent real physics. You would think the vechile should drive differently depending on each planets gravity.

I loved the game, but there are many issues. The greatest thing about this game is that it shows what possible RPGs will be like. I could see, maybe not in this generation of consoles, an RPG like Mass Effect which will have tons of planets which have cities with NPCs with side questions. Makes me really want a Mass Effect MMO.

A matter of fact, when is Huxley coming out lol. Yea I beat the game today and I gotta say I loved it a lot. There were a couple of things that erked me esp having to go through the cutscene diolague with the Matriark Benezia since I died six times and it didn't save after I talked to her. Overall I think the story was awesome, I'm playing the game again using my existing character and going to do all the side quests since I mainly went story missions the first time and I plan on playing this game a third time just fooling around. It would be awesome, I mean awesome, if they added galaxies for the downloadable content.:applause:

One thing I've noted with the Mako, which might answer what people are mentioning or complaining about, is that it has a mass effect generator or something to the extent where it changes the mass of the vehicle. Theoretically it could alter its mass and its characteristics to "ride" the same in virtually any environment. It could possibly change it on the fly (with pos or neg current) to once again affect the handling. Just a thought, because, you could also say its rushed game play development :p.
I like the difficulty of the battles a lot, really makes you think and plan your actions carefully. No busting in and expecting to run and gun. I often find myself entering a firefight three or more times just to accomplish it at a level of satisfaction. A friend of mine felt that the difficulty was to severe, he changed to casual mode and many of his complaints disappeared. Loving the game though and I’m really looking forward to improvements with the next two.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any info on the next two games in regards to their exclusive nature (now that EA has unfortunately purchased BioWare) or if there is any chance that the games release dates change?

When you beat the game, are you able to keep your character and equipment? And if so,
do you still have the same Paragon/Renegade points? I'd like to be able to play the game again doing nothing but Renegade actions since I'm playing Paragon this time.

Equipment and skills carry over, but you'll have to re-allocate squad members skill points.
Paragon/Renegade points do not and it's for the better.

Kind of sucks actually... I'd rather play through as a different character with different abilities a second time through but I guess you can't start with your old levels if you do so.

I don't mind that too much, but I dislike that you can't get a bonus talent in New Game+. It's only available on a brand new character after you meet requirements for each one on your playthroughs.

EDIT: That alone has forced me to re-think how I'm going to make my final character once I unlock all bonus talents. Already came up with a look for the character, unless I decide to change sexes:

Oh and one more thing. fuck those fucking Thresher Maws! The problem is that they will always appear under me and then I die. I always keep my distance while fighting one but every fucking time during a battle it will pop out from under the Mako and I will die instantly. What the hell.

Yea the biggest thing about Thresher Maws is to keep your distance and you can get to a point where you can be just far enough without it not popping up. That situation had happened to me though so I understand what you're saying. Find a saving spot lol.

Man you're character is hot! I tried to make a good looking chic but I fail compared to yours.

I
saved the council but Saren did not kill himself. Instread he fell down through the glass and the glass impaled him with blood leaking everywhere. After that, my two party members jumped down and blew his brains out to make sure he was dead. Then there was a cutscene at the end with the three council and I got a choice on how to put as a human council member and picked Anderson with a little bit of talking followed.
Did you actually fight saren though? Because I never fought him, and my team members also shot his brains out, but then he came back to life as a reaper form because of the implants.

I don't think it matters if you save the council or not, you will always have to fight the ripper form of Saren. It seems that you won't fight normal Saren, but you will always fight ripper Saren.

well, beat it last night. by far, out of all the big titles this year, this is the only one that hasn't disappointed me at all one bit. All the stuff (plot-wise) that seemed to go into the crap (particularly
at the end when saren shoots himself in the head during negotiation and I thought it was the end of the game right then and there
) the game turns it all around and makes it amazing.

I think people are directly looking at the game physiscs a bit too hard IMHO. Like greco stated, alot of the technology dealing with physiscs in the mass effect universe uses tech to deal with mass and weight (think about it the
fight down the tower at the end
wouldn't make sense without mass changes). The Mako is believable mostly if you allow yourself to understand that alot of rules can be bent with
Reaper
technology.

My one gripe is that the 360 can't stay at speed with th game sometimes... mainly noticeable when loading texture. :(

as for one small detail I was happy to see is that acquiring achievements not only gets you gamerscore, but usually gives you a permanent stat bonus for your crew. nice.

I'll start my second playthrough once I get some homework done.

Told you ;)

Wait till you see the Mako damage on insane mode. I die in like 3 blasts :(

The start of Virmire is raping me. Trying to get Extreme power gamer, but level 50's suck. On 54 right now

(OP) Well, my character is a woman, so at first I thought you were referring to the gentleman's club dance you get when you sit down (the whole lesbian thing)... funny.

Now I wish my character was the guy; he looks so dreamy. Oh, yeah and the dialogue is great!
Man you're character is hot! I tried to make a good looking chic but I fail compared to yours.
I cheated and based it off of someone elses, but their image wasn't too great and had to improvise. My first one was a guy and second was a chick, but not as good looking at that picture.

Like the other person said
you can fight Saren in his normal form (and I did). It was my second time doing so as well since on Virmire (spelling?) I had fought him to protect the bomb.
I'm going to go on my second playthrough by hardcore. anyone who's done it, is it really that hard after you fully understand the combat system?
New Game+, no. At least I'm having no problem what so ever (except enemies use "Immunity" a lot), so they take longer to die. Started at level 49 and am 52 or 53 now. My equipment is
the highest level spectre equipment
outside of my armor which is high end Colossus I think.

New Game, it should be.

anyone besides me get the special class? I was happy when I did a side mission and was rewarded the ability to be a shock trooper or a commando gaining improved stats. I'm assuming same goes for people playing as other classes.

Is it from a side mission or is that just from hitting a certain level? I didn't even remember why I got to specialize but I picked Commando when the prompt came up.

I just finished my first playthrough. As many complaints as I had about this game early on, once I got used to all the quirks and interfaces, it was extremely fun. The entire ending sequence was fucking awesome.

The only major complaint I have at this point is the lack of effect that paragon/renegade points appeared to have. In KotOR that game played out extremely differently depending on light or dark side. I played paragon through Mass Effect but I couldn't really spot any areas in the ending (or any) sequences that appeared to be affected by that fact.

I think it's a side mission specific thing since the mission was based around a training facility.

I picked Shock Trooper, which turned out pretty well since it gave me a massive boost to my barrier ability. My character is like a tank.

And yeah, I think it's centered around that sidequest on the Moon.

i don't have any biotech abilities since i'm a soldier, but I liked what shock tropper offered since I usually am the one who runs in the middle of the action to kill as much as I can (shotgun whore I am).

You get the mission when hitting level 20. When you hit 20 and go back to your ship, you'll get a message from someone. The last part of the mission is pretty tough.

I also noticed this, and the sad thing is that
I rememeber reading that each side would give specific bonuses to your character, but I never found anything like that. I'm playing through as a renegade now so I will see if it is any different.
Which mission?
Should be the moon mission where you have to stop the AI base. Or at least for me it was that mission
Which mission?
It's a quest on the Earth's moon and you basically go through 3 underground facilities and have to destroy the 8 generators or whatever they're called in each one. Upon destryoing the last batch in the last area, you get the option to specialize and you have two choices depending on your playstyle.

Is it worth putting points toward pistols and shotgun if you know you'll never use them? I've mainly been putting points toward health/defense and the rifle/sniper since I barely whip out a pistol.
Is it worth putting points toward pistols and shotgun if you know you'll never use them? I've mainly been putting points toward health/defense and the rifle/sniper since I barely whip out a pistol.
Only if you want the skills. I found the shotgun the most useful weapon since most battles are close range. You could also just have someone on your squad use the shotgun if you really needed it. I played as a Vanguard and just had Garrus use the snipe most of the game.

Is there a way to steady the sniper? I might have missed it.

I need help with a side quest, It isn't a vital piece of the story but I'll still mark it.

I forgot which planet Wrex's armor was on, any help? I had to come back because my decrypt skill wasn't high enough.

Ending was awesome. Game took me about 30 hours. I did all the sidequests I could find.

Yeah, the game had a few gameplay problems but I loved it. Easily my GOTY.

I only focus on the ones that im working on the acheivements for, i already got the 150 kills with the assualt rifle, so now im working on the pistol, it seems difficult to get more than two in one playthrough, so on teh next playthrough ill focus on the shotgun and sniper rifle.

With both of my playthroughs (one on normal, one on hardcore) it took me 32 hours.

On the first play through I did a few sidequests but mostly did the main story.

The second play through I did all the sidequests I could find, including almost every extra planet. Got completionist and all. Was probably AFK for 3 of those hours too.

And now, I'm finally moving onto a different game. Was a great ride, especially since I was one of the first who's not a dev/reviewer to beat it.
