Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts

Some semi-random thoughts...

Played through and beat the game in about 21 hours. I went through it quick as a paragon vanguard female and did few side missions. The only spot where I died a whole lot was
when battling the tree thing early in the game. I had spent too few points on health/damage mitigation.

I plan to play through again as a renegade male and do every side mission, probably as an adept.

Regarding technical problems, there was a lot of texture pop-in in cut-scenes and a few times in-game. Only other problem I had was when I froze the action using the right shoulder button, and one of the enemies kept moving. Didn't happen again though. No freezes or lockups.

Great game all-around, most anybody who liked KOTOR would like this. Also shooter fans (I'm one) looking for a more rounded experience.

I thought the writing and voice acting were oustanding, but the faces were a disappointment to me. They seemed to not carry much emotion. There were a few cut-scenes that were obviously done with more care, and Wrex was unusually well-animated the whole way.

Awesome moment:
Towards the end on the exterior of the spaceship in a zero-g environment. Using Lift becomes really fun.

Naturally I cockblocked Kaidan and did the lesbian subplot.

Personally I like Ashley offering to request information on Liara's sex life.

That plus the response ashley gives when she says she'd follow any order you give her, if you tell her to kiss a turian she'll ask which cheek. Then you can ask her if she will kiss ANYONE you order her too.

And she gives you a hilarious response on what will happen if you ask her to kiss you.
]Hmm, I never got those options after she said she'd kiss a turian.
It was the first time I had talked to her, or anyone for that matter, on the ship (I had no idea I could even talk to people between missions, so totally skipped everything up until after the Noveria mission). I'm guessing you chatted each time you boarded the Normandy.

That was first response, after i did first planet and got liara. It might have been because intimidate was at highest possible.

It was basically me implying that i would order her to kiss me. Then her replying if i ordered her to kiss a superior officer it would be in violation of alliance law and she'd have to relieve me of command and report me. In a very flirtatious manner.

Did you request more information and go thru all the dialouge options? There are usually several outcomes based on choices you can make.

You pull a gun on him and make him cry. It's awesome
I thought you were a hero! Ha ha, I still haven't punched the reporter, that's my new sidequest.

I punched the reporter. It was awesome. I loved hearing about how i lost control while riding in the elevator and how the footage would be on TV later :)

My favorite renegade moment:

Asari Councilmember: "You didn't call us back up just to disconnect us again, did you?"
Shepard: "You don't piss me off again, I won't disconnect you again."
Turian Councilmember: "Spectres do not get to make demands of the council!"
Shepard: Disconnect (can't remember the exact line)
Joker: That one never gets old.

My favorite renegade moment:

Your Fan: I'm going to be a Spectre as well!
Shepard: *puts her gun in his face* This is what it feels like to have a gun in your face! I have to deal with this everyday! Do you think you can handle this!?
Fan: *runs away crying* That's not how a hero is supposed to act!

once i unlock the first aid skill, how do i use it? and how do i set my squad to use certain weapons? also, how do i know how much medi-gel i have?

First-Aid just adds to the total health restored per medigel I believe. As long as the character with FA is in your party, you'll heal more.

thanks, i had a feeling it was that. but how do i check how much medigel i have?
thanks, i had a feeling it was that. but how do i check how much medigel i have?
It's on your hud. The top number beside your squad's health/shields.

You can also see it on the bottom of the Equipment screen.

Aghh. The framerate stuff is just killing me! I'm not even in combat and I'm losing frames. It's just choppy throughout the citadel. And I'm playing with headphones for the first time, so I can hear the audio choppiness, too. I hope they fix this.

I feel like I'm trying to play a PC game on a computer that's got too much stuff going on in the background. This is not the reason I bought I a console.
I didn't get that much lag, maybe your 360 just sucks.
Seems to depend on how you play. The first time I went through I pretty much just did combat in the run & gun style and I rarely ran into any framerate issues. Second time through I used a ton of biotic and tech skills and it caused combat to be extremely lagged and choppy in many situations.

...and on the subject of just having finished the game a second time...

I wasn't really too big a fan of the renegade ending. I felt like there was a lot less closure to this episode of the trilogy. The paragon ending was a lot more satisfying. I wonder which ending will be the "real" ending they use for the sequels... the council lives on or humanity takes over the galaxy? I would have to guess the good ending will be the real one.

I'm not even talking combat. Just exploring the citadel. Funny thing is, this isn't the first time I've played it, but it is the first time I've noticed the jerkiness. Nothing unusual about my playing tonight. Same as always, I turned on my 360, and went straight into the game... Maybe I'll restart it - that always seems to fix my other MS-powered machine.

Beat the game a third time with the same character and I still don't have level 60. It needs 1/6th you exp. to make the jump from 59 to 60.

What level did you start the second game at?

second game: 39 lvl

third game: 56 lvl

I started the second game at 49, ended at 58.

I could probably get 60 real easy. All you do is search for minerals on the planets, worth a shitload if you do them all. Think I leveled up 53-55 doing that.

Problem is, It takes an hour to get to the point where I can use the Normandy.

im thinking of just switching the difficulty to easy and just finishing the game so i can get the story down, then going back on normal or hardcore and taking my sweet ass time, what do you guys think. im like 7 hours in and i suck at the combat keep getting my ass handed to me at that one part i mentioned earlier...

What class are you? If your class has any weapons skills I have found that the combat gradually gets easier. If not, perhaps not a bad idea to ratchet down the difficulty. You could always play with the harder setting on a new game+ so you start off being competitive.
im a vangaurd and not liking it so far
Vanguard is the biotics/soldier hybrid? You should be relatively strong... I would recommend putting a lot of points into armor/fitness early on as well as making sure you buy the best gear you can afford. Once you get a few levels and aren't getting killed so easy, you should become pretty powerful. Pistols/shotguns can both be very strong not to mention your biotic abilities will be very useful for disabling your enemies. Try making sure to use your own/your teams abilities constantly during battles (hold right bumper, select abilities for your team to use and use the right analog pad to aim while youre paused at where they should be casting them). Try using your own biotic powers to disable certain enemies so that you are not having to deal with as many enemies as once (throw, lift, singularity, etc). Lastly, don't forget that pressing Y uses medi-gel and that most characters have defensive spells that recharge their shields or block damage (immunity, barrier, etc) and theyre great to use if you're running low on health/shields or just anticipating taking a lot of damage.

Remember that this is not just a run & gun shooter... you need to use cover and make use of all your abilities if you want to do well in the combat. It takes some getting used to but it is totally worth it once you do.

Played this for a couple of hours over the weekend, I just started using my squad-mates and biotiics (I just previously used my pistol, FTL) and it makes combat much more satisfying.

I just completed Ferros after the Citadel, I'm currently at level 20 and have 2 questions:

1. Ferros: After activating all the water valves, it tells me I need to inform someone at the colony to complete the quest, but I look at the map and go to the "!" mark and nobody is there, I'm assuming this is a glitch? This is after I've completed the main section of Ferros and I'm able to leave.

2. Where the fuck do I find the "fan" at the Citadel? I just finished letting him take a picture of me.

-Its possible you killed the person you need to speak to in the escape. You can kill all 16 colonists.

2. Where the fuck do I find the "fan" at the Citadel? I just finished letting him take a picture of me.

- He will only appear once after each main mission. He is in the markets near the stairs.

I finally hit level 60 last night (@ about 40 hours in). I'm really pretty sick of this game but I'm too close to the majority achievements to stop now. The mountains on the side planets have surpased the one hit kills as my #1 annoyance. I hate trying to guess whether or not I can scale a mountain. If I come back to this game later to play as a biotic I will definitely be skipping all side quests.
im a vangaurd and not liking it so far
I agree with what Spectre said above. I actually used a vanguard on my first playthrough. Make sure to put points into shotgun use, and remember to go into your equipment menu and use new weapons when you pick them up.

When I walk up to someone to talk to them they load up in stages. The color of them loads first then the lines that make their face and cloths then the detales. All of it takes about 10 - 20 seconds from start to finish. Does anyone else have this? Also at times when they talk I hear nothing then the text comes up. I see the movements and that is. When the text comes up I hear just one of them talking. It is like being in a room with someone that is on the phone and all you hear is that one person.

I remember running into situations like that a few times and wondering how the fuck something like that could possibly get through quality control. They put a vehicle in the game that can scale virtually anything and then decided they should put sheer cliffs in between you and an objective in a side quest. Trying to figure out how to scale the side of a fucking wall for 10 minutes isn't fun. In ME2 they had better either (1) get rid of that stupid shit, or (2) add rocket boosters to the BACK of the mako so you can just boost up the side of cliffs.

after fucking around a while and mainly playing Pistol and Shotgn for the past few weeks, going into the assult rifle and biotics makes combat feel totally different but in a good way.

Besides the terrible slowdown and glitches in the game, this would have to be my number one complaint as well. I hate anything to do with the Mako including the fighting portions of the game. I would rather get out of the Mako and snipe any turrets or enemies than to drive the cumbersome machine any longer.

On my second playthrough, I'm gonna skip a majority of the secondary journal entries b/c driving around in the Mako is a PITA and the majority of my playtime is being spent on searching for minerals/metals (which is way too boring).

Feros has been my favorite level so far (it was the last planet I played) because there was so much fighting involved. Noveria was the first planet I visited and it was a little too boring for me. I beat the Matriarch on my 2nd try (I lost the first time b/c of a biotics glitch where I was glued to the floor and couldn't move LOL). If you're having a tough time with her, I would suggest finishing as many secondary journal entries before you visit any of the main planets. Everything else should be a breeze.

Also, I would recommend putting a lot of your early experience points into your main weapon category (pistol OR sniper OR shotgun), armor and electronics (boosts your shields) to get a nice balance in your defense and offensive capabilities. Also, don't forget to use the right armor/weapon/ammo upgrade to fill in your weaknesses. If you're a sniper, use the weapon stability to make your aiming more steady. If you constantly find yourself low on health, use a health modulator to regenerate health quickly. If you like a lot of run and gun action up close, use the shotgun with hammerhead bullets to knock enemies on the ground and make them vulnerable, and so on. I'm almost finished with my first playthrough and besides the aforementioned problems, I'd say this would be my game of the year. I'm mainly use my sniper and I can't wait to be a soldier with a shotty in my next playthrough :)

On my 2nd playthrough I got out of the mako for almost every fight, even with some of the bigger enemies and turrets. It really makes things a lot more interesting not to mention it helps towards the weapons/abilities achievements and gives more exp.

I really wanted to get the rest of my Ally achievements, but I agree that the MAKO parts of the game are tedious (getting out of a MAKO, killing baddies, then popping back in doesn't really help either).

I might just gun through the game on my second playthrough, then do the side missions during some month where gaming is dry.

I would love to read through all of this.. but its far too long.

I just finished the game last night for the first time.

level 49, 36.5 hours in.. Got the completionist achievement (what percentage complete is that anyhow..?).

I was ... kind of disapointed in the length. I remember putting like 80 hours into KOTOR 2 on one play through, like 60 in KOTOR 1. I did most of the stuff IN Mass Effect in one play through in the amount of time of an old SNES RPG like Lufia.

Mass Effect is a Fantastic game, and I WILL be playing through again, but I expected a bit more in terms of the length.. there were only like 4 story planets..!

After I got the Normandy, I flew around and finished EVERY side quest available, then blew through the other planets (and the side quests that open up after the planets are done) in about 5 hours (could be more.. I didn't exactly time it). I think I had a full set of spectre gear before I hit the second story planet.. kind of made it easy.

I played through the entire game with the Pistol, and went good guy. Playing the douche is WAY more interesting, so far.

I'm playing the full game including all side quests (I already have the completionist achievement,) then I will wait for a second playthrough for when DLC comes.

Is anyone getting any DREs in their games? It doesn't happen much, but on occasion I'll be talking to someone when all the sudden the sound goes out and a few seconds later I get "unable to read disk" message. I thought my disk was getting scratched but it's clean as a whistle. Most times it's just annoying, but there was a time or two when I didn't save and the autosave happened 15 minutes prior ... pissed off!

Only one DRE so far, but yeah, disk is shiny and clean.

I agree that it was a bit shorter but I am still pretty impressed at how much effort they put into making the game replayable. Between the different dialogue choices (not as different as KotOR but still), the achievement bonuses, the New Game + and the variety in classes, I can see myself playing this a third time through in the near future.

I just hope they have better support for this game through DLC then they did for KOTOR. I remember getting all excited about getting new planets for that game and they didn't come for a LONG time, it sounds like they are going to do a better job this time around seeing how DLC has become one of the new things of this generation of gaming.

15 minutes...Man I lost 2 hours. I won't go into too much detail because I already posted it on an earlier page. The game signed my out of my profile without me knowing. So 2 hours later when I went to save, it said I couldn't save unless signed in. So I signed in, but that led to the game restarting itself, so I had no chance to save.

Finished the game after 16 hours, level 37 War Hero Vanguard.

I *loved* it, the control, and even the ending was freaking amazing

Chose to save the council, and later got the captain appointed to it, it felt epic

will definately be playing this a second time, but i was wondering why I didn't get either the Soldier Ally or Turian ally achievements (Save a few missions, I played with Ashley and Garrus) the whole game!

I even saved her ass, but she repaid me, so it's all good :)

You have to complete the side quests as well with the characters to get the ally achievements.

I completed every quest in the game on my first playthrough, got to level 50 as an Infiltrator, and finished the game on normal in just over 38 hours. It's the only 360 game I've played since Nov. 20.

Man, the more I play, the more I love this game. It's starting to be kind of a toss-up between Bioshock and this for GOTY; though I think it's like comparing apples and oranges.

Two things, though. First off: the speeches they give in the game. Was I the only one who thought the induction speech into the Spectres was awesome? And I loved when
the Salarian commander gave the speech to his soldiers on Vilmire; makes you feel like you're really in the moment, sitting back and listening to him give the speech.

Second:
was I the only one who laughed out loud when the conversation tree said
1. Calm down.
2. We can work this out.
3. Shoot Wrex.
Damn... I need to hurry up my Paragon run. Renegade sounds fun/funny.
It's funny when you do a renegade action after a bunch of Paragon choices. I try to play the character how I would actually respond, and that's gotten funny responses before...such as the reporter one, which went like this:

"Yes, I'm commander Shepard. [...]Well, the council trusts me, so I'm able to act as I see fit. [...] You understand some things will be classified. [...] I'm tired of your slanderous accusations! *WHAM!*

Finally hit level 60 and got my completionist, so only a little bit more to go until I get the ally achievements. I was surprised to find out that there is a level cap at 60.

I would guess that as some point they might add some DLC content and unlock levels 61-70. Either that or perhaps the next few games will start with your character from the previous games at the level they were at and they want the next game to start no higher than 60? I dunno.

I just completed feros last night, now i will be off to Virmire, i got my renegade acheivment along with my shotgun kills, now all i need is the sniper rifle but i dont see that happening in this playthrough since ive put zero points into it. Im at level 45 im hoping i can get to 50 on this playthrough as well.
