Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts

Looking forward to starting this too. Was going to play CoD 4 until I tired of it, but with XBL still being a bitch, I'm going to sideline that game and play through Mass Effect in hopes that XBL will be back to normal when I finish.

Just started this. Are good and evil really on a point system still? The Witcher integrated decision making perfectly into the game...I would've thought Bioware would do the same.

Never played witcher but can say that I dont have any problems at all with teh way ME has done it via teh conversation wheel.
Sorry Zoidberg but I don't follow you. I'm an engineer and can't even aim with the AR so don't use it. WHat do you mean comlete the acheivment (like the gamerscore ach?) And if so how the hell am I supposed to do this when teh AR is completely wortheless to me as an enginneer?

What is this choose an extra skill business? Basically i don't see what you mean.
The extra skill applies to a new character on your next playthrough. For example, if you play as a soldier, and you get the requisite amount of Assault Rifle kills to get the AR achievement, when you create a new character they can have the AR skill available to them regardless of class. Most (all?) weapons and attack skills have an achievement, and can then be added to a new character, but you only get to pick one.

I hope this helps to clarify.

Okay emdub I think I get it.

I'm an engineer, so say I use Sabotage 100 times or whatever the number is to get the "Sabotage Expert" acheivmeent or whatever its called.

When I beat it, on my next playthrough I'll be able to use sabotage even if I'm a soldier or some other class that couldnt normally have it?? Is that what you two are saying? If yes, then this is really, really badass.

you dont even have to complete the game...just the achievement

once youve gotten that achievement you can create your new character then and there, the achievement instantly unlocks the new skill for use with a new character, im not certain if this applys to biotics however...i havent tested it being as im not a huge fan of them, but Lift with a Soldier would be awesome
i beat the game in 11 hours. Is it suppose to go by that fast?
if you go through just the story, yes the game can be that short. There are tons of side quests which can add another 20 hours onto that.

Im only 7.5 hours in, but from what Ive read it should take longer than that (11 hrs.) with side missions and things.
i beat the game in 11 hours. Is it suppose to go by that fast?
2nd time I played through with the same character and only did a couple sidequests it took me 12 hours (doing all sidequests I had + main quests the first time through was 24 hours so about twice as long). I have seen some people say their first playthrough took them 40+ hours. Just depends on how you play I suppose.

Started this tonight and got sucked in and played for 5 and 1/2 hours! Didn't really get that far, just did a bunch of side quests etc. and now ready to go to one of the three planets you can go to after exposing Sarin.

I loving it so far (obviously). So much detail into the history, different species etc. really draws me in, so I'm taking my time reading everything in the codex, doing all the conversation tree options I can etc.

Graphics are amazing as well (once I figured how to turn of film grain and motion blur anyway). There is a good bit of slowdown unfortately (regardless of graphics settings).

I really like the combat too. Much better than traditional turn based RPG combat, or the system they used in the KOTOR games. I like having it play more like a shooter. Keeps more more interested in combat, rather than just wanting to get through it to move on in the story/into more conversation.

Color me impressed so far!

you can only truely enjoy ME if you take the time to be sucked in by its story
as previously stated, if you complete te game quickly then youre missing out alot of detail that BioWare took near enough 4 years to develop (i think it took 4 years to develop...im a bioware fan and ive seen it advertised on their site for quite some time)

in my opinion you can only truely enjoy the game if you complete it within the 40+ hours mark, then youre preety much guaranteed to have sucked every last bit of information from the game. even when i go through and play again im still finding little bits and pieces i didnt know previously.

For context, I am level 35 and just finished Feros (Did Artemis Tau, then Noveria, then Feros). I engage in every conversation, chooose every investigatory option I can get, but don't read the codex much (too much), and don't read the description of the planets you can't land on.

I was also careful to do as many sidemissions as I could initially, and have visited the citadel 3 times to get a head start on someof the side assignments that have multiple steps.

I chose, War Hero, Earthborn, Engineer and have been heavily investing in my tech abilities (Sab, ,Overload, damp, hack), Spectre, and
Operative once I got that class from the Luna mission
.

I play with my biotches liara and ashley, and just last night
they confronted me and made me choose (I chose ashley, will prob try to stick it to liara next time).

I too am a huge fan Zoid, and though I very much regretably missed KOTOR, I don't remember how many times I played through both Baldur's Gates.

I have a question, SPOILER if you havent completed Feros.
After I destroy the geth ship in teh Exogeni HQ, I return to the refugee camp and talk with Lizbeth's mom and Jeong. In the Jeong conversation the blue option (charm) was shaded out even though I have my charm maxed out (There are still two slots on the right but they're not shaded like other skills that can be leveled up, it wont let me put anymore in charm). I ended up having to shoot the bastard (not that I minded that much, he was a giant douche). I'm just wondering why I couldnt choose the charm option when its as full as I can get it? what gives?

Should have read the manual first, missed the create a character option and just went with the default.

Oh well, kind of used to seeing the default Shephard in all the media for the game anyway, and I would have went with Soldier as well.
What history, service background and class did you pick?
What ever was default I guess. I didn't see options for those either. Pretty sure class is Soldier, and from conversations that he was earthborn (but not sure).

pittapizza, the reason those last two blocks arent available is because you dont have enough Paragon Points to have unlocked them, once you are past the final line on the Paragon Bar in your character tech screen then you can upgrade to the final stages of Charm

Well thats fucked up. So because I don't have enough paragon points, it wont let me add enough charm to get more paragon points? seems like an unfair catch 22 to me.

I made sure to beef up charm throughout the entire game and yet I still encounter situations where I can't choose the charm response (to get paragon points) because i dont have enough paragon points!? How the fuck am I supposed to get more paragon points so I can put more charm in i fyou wont let me use my already maxed out charm to choose the paragon responses you fuckin fucks!?
..because Charm responses aren't the only way to get Paragon points?
I know, (though they do seem to be the primary source), I was just venting. This is the second time I've not been able to choose a charm response (the first being when
the investigator wanted to inspect my ship and gave me all kinds of shit about it and having aliens as crew.)

To somebody who takes every effort to make sure his charm skills are maxed, you can imagine the frustration when you STILL can't choose the charm responses.

Those speech options are sometimes tricky,
I was confused on how to answer questions to the reporter lady that ambushes after you return to the citadel and the situation got out of hand, i chose a weird choice and sheperd all of a sudden turned into a redneck and beat the crap out of her.

so yeah...be careful with that.

Charm responses arent all that exciting...you can get the same effect from using the equivalent positive responses available, except in cases of getting extra items and such

the most use i get out of Charm/ Intimidate is when im at a store selling or buying things, and even then i dont get much out of them...having maximum creds is great, but now i dont have anything to buy :(

Oh! by the way guys a little spoiler for you in reference to one of my previous posts

Geth Armoury!!!! Finaly found out where to buy and how to unlock em. The store that sells them is in the Lower Markets of The Citadel, talk to Moraln (think thats his name). To unlock them you need to be Level 36 and have the Licence, and eventualy they will pop up in the store! The available Geth items are:

Geth Materials (Armour Upgrade) Adds +40% Damage Protection, +40% Shields, +40 Hardening, +50% Move Penalty

Adaptive Fire Control (Weapons Upgrade) Adds +40% Damage, +8% Heat Absorption, +70% Accuracy

Pulse Rifle (Assault Rifle)

Battle Master (Heavy Armour - Krogan Only)

enjoy

i never play RPGs...EVAR..but i am loving this one....i was a little over 18 hours in the game (im doing every side mission i can) and my squad was constantly getting the shit kicked out of them until i realized I have to equip them! I figured they just got the best of whatever i didnt use.....god im a rpg newb

Soooooooooooooooo many side quests, I am level 37, played 25 hours, and just now landed on Virmire and it seems I have just as many sidequests to do now as when I started b/c I uncover them as fast as I can get em done.

I just did the one involving admirable Kohoku and the Ceberus, and guess what I get as a reward.....you'll never guess......ANOTHER fuckING SIDEQUEST!

Not complaining though, even though it sounds like I am, there is just soooooo much game here. How much is left past Virmire? Not that it matters b/c I still will have so many sidequests left undone.

Did anybody get 100% completion, find every mineral, survery every planet, do every assignment? I don't know how one could unless they played along side an FAQ or two.

Sorry so many questions but I have one more: Did I foreclose the ability to do remaining sidequests by landing on Virmire? (I already did feros, noveria, and therum).

I'm lazy with multi-quoting, so here are the numbers:
1. How much is left past Virmire? Not that it matters b/c I still will have so many sidequests left undone.

2. Did anybody get 100% completion, find every mineral, survery every planet, do every assignment? I don't know how one could unless they played along side an FAQ or two.

3. Sorry so many questions but I have one more: Did I foreclose the ability to do remaining sidequests by landing on Virmire? (I already did feros, noveria, and therum).
1. For the main story, just a few more hours.

2. I played through the game 4 times :)drool:) but I'm pretty sure I didn't see 100% of the content. I haven't yet created a Spacer character, for one (I don't think default John was a Spacer, can't remember). But I did try paragon, neutral, and renegade tracks when talking to NPCs.

3. Nope. Sidequests will remain open until you get to the very end.
Until you land on the last planet

Played some more last night. Some more=getting sucked in for another 5+ hours.

This games just amazing. Even better now that I can fly around the galaxy exploring. The Mako vehicle kicks ass. Just awesome driving over steep ass rocky mountains etc.

Spent a couple hours flying around finishing some side quests, before getting back to the story. Then when to the cluster to rescue Liara, saved her and explored everying in that cluster. And finally went back to The Citadel to polish off a couple side quests that required talking to people there. Along with all the usually talking to all of my crew between missions etc.

The game is like crack. Always want to do one more assignment, or some more conversations etc.

hmm....besides finding all the tags and minerals i cant find anymore side missions to do and my only assignment right now is virmire (sp?) ... i hope there are more once i get there...

Whats this green meter that has appeared in the bottom right of my screen? I just got it while finishing up assignments in the Citadel (I got all 21 keepers!).
The save system still pisses me off. I find myself having to save every 2 minutes.
I'm on the second playthrough (ya still, dam classes ) and I remember the game pretty well so I can remember where to save and where it isn't really needed depending on the situation and strength of my character. For exampled If i'm on a side quest I usually only save when I am right about to enter a building since thats where all the guys are, and thats only because you never know when you might now pay attention and die.

One more question: I planned on a few playthroughs so figured I'd go for some achievments. I'm trying to get the achievment for using ashley and liara for most of the game ('ve heard like 15 missions and 45 assignments, can anybody confirm?)

So there are some missions you're supposed ot do with the people that gave em to you (I.e. family armor with Wrex, and the crazy doctor w/ Garrus). Here is my question: Can i still do these missions with wrex and garrus and not have to worry about screwin up the "Soldier" and "Asari" achievments?

I'd say yes, but considering you need three playthroughs for all the all achievements, why not just skip the side-quests and be sure.

As soon as I have the team I want, they don't leave my party for anything.

My team is so awesome; me, Garrus, and Wrex. It's so easy to rampage through base and take it over with superior firepower, aka Spectre weapons.

The only thing is I've done nearly every side and main mission, but I have yet to get the ally achievements...

Seems like the difficulty is a bit unbalanced. Had a hell of a time with the base for Wrex's family armor, but breazed through the next few side quests (i.e. all the Cerebus stuff and a couple others.

Getting tired of the stupid Thresher Maws too. Think I've killed 4 so far. Though it will likely go a bit quicker from now on since I finally figured out that the Mako has a cannon!

I think my set party is going to end up me, Liara and Tali. Had been using Ashley a lot, but since I'm the default Soldier Shepard it's more balanced to not have her in the party, and go with Liara for biotics, and Tali for decrypting etc. since I have her decrption and electrics filled up already.

The Wrex mission is pretty much the hardest thing in the game. :bomb:
Wrex's family armor? Where the hell was that? I never got that quest.
Talk to Wrex when you're on the Normandy, eventually you'll get the quest.

I like running into thresher maws for sure! They're a blast to fight (quite literally).

Right about the difficulty pace though, very challenging in the beginning and pretty easy later in the game. This is alot better if you take the time to do ALL the citadel assignments as soon as you get them because you'll level up SEVERAL times just cruisin and exploring the citadel.

On the topic of ally achievments, I've heard they don't vest until you beat the game, then if you have "the magic percentage" I guess you'll get it then. I'm not sure about this though as Im on my first playthough (level 47).

I never got the Ally achievements and i Had Wrex and Tali with me on Every mission Besides the Garrus one, and even then i still had Wrex with me.

By the way I felt saddened by the fact that i couldnt explore ilos, It seemed like such an interesting place.

Also, when you complete the Citadel mission for the asari Consort and she gives you the little trinket (You get some Blue Assed nookie for being a renagade) its key to a prothean Ruin on of the Green planets...the one with the missing probe and the monkey's (forgot the name) use it at the ruins and it will bring up some freaky text, about sheperd being some sort of caveman and giant floating ball and it will also give you some special items and a hefty amount of XP.

just finished it....28 hours...hands down one of the top 10 games ive ever played through.....very few games have ever pulled me into the story so much...

a friend of a friend of a friend has leaked a rumor to me, the first piece of ME downloadable content should be arriving some time within the next two months!! (note: this is a rumor, it has not been confirmed by myself or any other individual i know of)
